0 Important information *********************** When attempting to update, users who have a previously installed ANSI version of an antivirus software on a Microsoft Windows XP operating system receive an update message. To perform an update, proceed as follows: 1. Uninstall the antivirus software currently installed on your system. 2. Download an up-to-date software package from the download area of the Avira Professional Security website at http://www.avira.com/professional-download. 3. Install this software package on your computer. 1 System requirements ********************* For Avira Professional Security to work perfectly, the computer system must fulfil the following requirements: - Computer as from Pentium, at least 1 GHz - Operating system - Windows XP, newest SP (32 or 64 Bit) or - Windows Vista, newest SP (32 or 64 Bit, SP 1) or - Windows 7, newest SP (32 or 64 Bit) Program interface displays may differ depending on the operating system. - At least 150 MB of free hard disk memory space (more if using Quarantine for temporary storage) - At least 512 MB RAM under Windows XP - At least 1024 MB RAM under Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

- For installation: Administrator rights - For all installations: Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher Note -------- Avira Mail Protection will not function if a mail server (e.g. AVM KEN, Exchange) is already installed on the computer. We are happy to help you find a software solution best suited to your needs. 2 Important requirements for installation ***************************************** For Avira Professional Security to function perfectly on your computer, ensure that the following requirements are satisfied: - System requirements are fulfilled - No other virus guards are installed (System Scanner, Realtime Protection). - You have administrator rights - Internet and/or intranet connection is available - Valid license file 'hbedv.key' is available (as test license or full license) - All programs running on your computer have been terminated 3 Incompatibility with other programs ************************************* PGP Desktop Home, PGP Desktop Profession 9.0 and CyberPatrol Avira Professional Security cannot currently be used with the products PGP Desktop Home, PGP Desktop Professional 9.0 and CyberPatrol. An error in the aforesaid products may cause the Avira Mail Prtection (POP3 scanner) in Avira Professional Security not to function or the system to become unstable. Avira is working with PGP and CyberPatrol to resolve the problem. Until a solution is found, we strongly recommend that you uninstall the aforesaid products before installing Avira Professional Security. Bigfoot Networks Killer Ethernet Controller, Teleport Pro, CHIPDRIVE Time Recording, MSN Messenger Avira Web Protection is not compatible with the following products: - Teleport Pro from Tennyson Maxwell, Inc - CHIPDRIVE Time Recording from SCM Microsystems - MSN Messenger from Microsoft Any data sent or requested by these products will therefore be ignored by Avira Web Protection. 4 Licensing *********** As a registered customer, we will send you a digital license file. The license file 'hbedv.key' contains a release code for the products licensed to you. The file must be saved in the same directory as the

corresponding program package. Avira Professional Security is generally supplied electronically by download. You will generally receive your license file by email. Please retain this license file for the entire period of validity. You will receive a license file: - when you submit a new order for Avira Professional Security - when you amend/extend your existing license If an error occurs when copying the file 'hbedv.key' during Setup, or an Avira product is already installed on your computer, you have several options for importing the license file. Automatic installation ---------------------If the product is already installed on your computer, simply double-click on the license file icon. Avira Professional Security's integrated License management function checks and installs the license automatically. Manual installation ------------------Copy the file 'hbedv.key' to the Avira Professional Security program directory, usually C:\Programs\Avira\AntiVir Desktop After a reboot, the full version of Avira Professional Security will be available. Installation by Avira Professional Security -----------------------------------------Access the Avira Professional Security Control Center and select "Load license file" from the "Help" menu. Select your license file and click OK. Avira Professional Security then installs your license file in the program directory. After a reboot, the full version of Avira Professional Security will be available. What does the error message 'License file available is not a valid license' mean? You will receive this message if you try to use a license file that does not correspond to your product. For example, your license file may contain a release for Avira Server Security . If you then try and use this license file with Avira Professional Security, you will receive this error message because, even though you have the license file, you do not have a release for Avira Professional Security. A list of released products can be found in the file 'lic_info.text' in the Avira Professional Security installation directory. 5 Troubleshooting ***************** This version of Avira Professional Security has been extensively tested by Avira Operations GmbH & Co. KG. If any errors occur which we have not yet discovered, please notify us of these errors.

Describe the problem to us, and the corresponding action that lead to the error message. This will help us identify the error. If possible, please send us your computer's configuration (model, hardware), along with the INI file(s) 'avwin.ini' and the report files created by Avira Professional Security. In Windows XP for example, these files can usually be found under: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Avira \AntiVir Desktop\CONFIG\ C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Avira \AntiVir Desktop\LOGFILES\ If you have any requests for new program features or suggestions about any of our products, please do not hesitate to contact us.
