NETBALL RULES & POSITIONS

RULES
CENTRE PASSES - Centre passes are taken alternately by the Centre of each team. - After each goal is scored and at the start of each quarter. - The Centre with the ball must be wholly within the Centre Circle. - All players must start in the goal thirds (except the two Centres) before the Centre Pass is taken. - After the whistle the Centre pass must be caught or touched by a player standing in or landing wholly within the Centre third. A FREE PASS will be awarded to the opposing team if the following rules are broken: A free pass may be taken by any player from that team allowed in that area. - OFFSIDE When a player moves out of there own playing area, with or without ball. - STEPPING When a players landing foot is re-grounded before they release the ball or they hop or drag their landing foot. - HELD BALL When a player doesnt release the ball within 3 seconds. - BREAKING When a player moves into the Centre third before the whistle is blown for the Centre pass. - OVER A THIRD When the ball is thrown over a complete third of the court, without being touched or caught by a player wholly within that third. PLAYED BALL A player bounces or taps the ball while in control of the ball. When players catch their own pass/shot. A player passes the ball whilst on the ground. SHORT PASS

A player passes the ball to a teammate that is too close that another player couldnt fit between the passers and catchers arms. A PENALTY PASS OR SHOT will be awarded if the following three rules are broken. A penalty pass is awarded where the infringement occurred. It is awarded to a player of the opposing team that is allowed within that area. The offending player must stand out of play beside the thrower until they release the ball. - OBSTRUCTION * When the defender is closer than 3 feet from the attackers landing foot (or the place where their landing foot was) * The defender stands too close to the attacker without their arms outstretched but is impacting on the shooting/passing action of the attacker * Any dangerous play such as moving into the landing space of an opponent in the air or stepping late into the path of a moving player - CONTACT When a player makes contact with an opponent (accidently or deliberately) in a way that interferes with the play of the opponent. - INTIMIDATION Of any kind such as, defending with your hand in the attackers eyes or shaking your arm when defending. THROW IN - Is awarded against the last team to last have contact with the ball before going out of court. - A Throw In is taken from where the ball went out of court and is taken from outside the court. - The player stands with their foot close to the line. SCORING - Only GS or GA can score. - The shooter must be completely within the goal circle when the ball is received in order to shoot for goal. - A goal is scored when the ball passes over and completely through the goal ring. WINNING - The team with the most goals at the end of the designated playing time is the winner.
