In simple terms Recruitment is understood as a process for searching and obtaining applicants for jobs, from among the available recruits.

Definition
Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organizations. Selection starts where recruitment ends

Recruitment process

(1) Recruitment Planning


The first stage in the Recruitment Process is planning. Planning involves the translation of likely job vacancies and information about the nature of these jobs into a set of objectives is targets that specify the number and type of applicants to be planned.

Sources Of Recruitment Internal sources - Internal source includes HRIS, Notice boards, Circulars, Job portal, etc. External sources External source includes Advertisement, Education institution, Employment agencies, interested application, and Employee referral.

(3) Searching
Source Activation: Source Activation takes place when a job vacancy exists in the organization. If the organization has planned and well and done a good job of developing its source and search methods, activation soon results in a flood of application. Selling: In selling the, both the Message and Media deserve attention in the organization. Message refers to the employment advertisements. Media refers to the source of any recruiting message. For example, Employment Exchanges, Advertises in Business magazines.

(4) Screening
The purpose of screening is to remove from the recruitment process at an early stage, those applicants who are visibly unqualified for the job. Effective screening can save a great deal of time and money. Care must be exercised to assure that potentially good employees are not lost.

(5) Evaluation and control


It is necessary as considerable costs are incurred in the recruitment process. Stastical information should be gathered and evaluated to know the suitability of the recruitment process.

Selection
Meaning
Process of differentiating between applicant in order to identifying ( and hire) those with the greater likelihood of success in a job.

Definition
Selection is a process which involves the application of appropriate techniques and methods with the aim of selecting, appointing and inducting a competent person or persons. Essar Group conducts on campus and off campus recruitment drives through a series of selection main steps like written exam, GD and interview. Aspirants can enter into each step only after qualifying the previous one. Thorough preparation is required to clear each of these selection rounds as the competition level is very high.

To create a favorable impression on the applicants right from the stage of reception

Generally planned by large organizations to cut the cost of selection by allowing only eligible candidates to go through the further stages in selection

(3) Application blank

Application blank or form is one of the most common methods used to collect information like Personal data (address, sex, telephone number) Marital data Educational data Employment Experience Extra-curricular activities References and Recommendations

(4) Written test


Written test is carried out through online method. There will be a total of 120 questions which have to be answered in 2 hours. The test will have question from following areas: Quantitative Aptitude Reasoning English languages Technical

(5) Group discussion


In this section a specific topic is given to a group of aspirants. This group may contain candidates who have cleared the first section. They will be provided with an industry relevant topic and the candidates can share their ideas relevant to the topic. In this section, the communication skill, personality, etc are evaluated.

(6) Personal interview


There will be two sections for personal Interview Technical section

HR section

In the technical section, the candidates are asked questions related to the topics they studies in the qualifying degree. In the HR section the candidate can expect question related to the family background and the other personal details related to the individual.

(7) Medical test


Certain jobs require physical qualities like clear vision, perfect hearing, unusual stamina, tolerance of hard working conditions, clear tone, etc. Medical examination reveals whether or not a candidate possesses these qualities.

(8) Employee hiring


The line manager has to make the final decision now whether to select or reject a candidate after soliciting the required information through different techniques.
