Welcome
May 5 2013
Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much as we can, we want to help you feel at home here. In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for you to complete. There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make. All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute
I sat down to have a quiet coffee the other day and there were three quite elderly ladies sitting at a table next to mine. I had no sooner sat down and was about to take the first sip of my coffee when one of the ladies turned around and said, "Hi, I'm Merle. I'm 89 years of age and I was an aircraft electrician during war" I know ministers are supposed to be ready to talk to people everywhere we go, but right then I felt like saying, "I'm very happy for you, enjoy your coffee!" But I found myself saying, "Thank you. My generation owes so much to people like you". Then this rather feisty but endearing old RAAF aircraft electrician said something that surprised me. She said, "I know" Then she went on, "so many people have no idea of the cost of their freedom" I then said something that cost me 40 minutes! I said, "tell me about it, what was the price of my freedom" That was all the encouragement that Merle needed. She launched into story after story of her experiences and those of others who endured the tragedy, the hardship and the cost of defending our nation. Then, when she saw that my attention span had seriously diminished, she said, "Thank you for listening. What do you do?" I said, "I'm a Baptist minister, and just listening to you talk has made me realise again how often I forget the cost of my freedom. Do you mind if I tell you the price of that freedom?" She said, "not at all dear" I figured I only had about 4 minutes before her attention span would seriously diminish, so I talked about Jesus, and the price he paid on the cross to set me free from sin and death. As I walked away from the table I heard Merle turn back to the other 2 friends and say, "that young man is a Baptist Minister. He's just been telling me about Jesus!" Bless her. I love talking to 90 year olds. They all think you are young. But I do love talking about Jesus. His is the name above every name. Think of it. There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved. (Acts 4:12) We are to pray in the name of Jesus. (John 15:16) We are baptised in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38) People were healed in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:6) We preach in the name of Jesus (Acts 9:27) Demons were cast out in the name of Jesus (Acts 16:18)

The Badger Family Tim, Bron, Stephen, Joshua, Amie, Annalise & Kaitlyn OMF, Manila, Philippines
Give thanks with us for God's protection over our family and rd house last Monday evening when a fire broke out in the 3 floor loft (spare/guest room) of our house. An old electric fan that the landlord had left for us to use was not working properly but someone must have tried turning it on and left it going even though the blades didn't turn, so the motor overheated and caught fire. Fortunately the neighbours spotted the smoke coming out the top windows and alerted us. The door had been closed so we hadn't noticed any smoke. Give thanks that Annalise's birth certificate has finally been released and is currently being processed by the National Statistics Office. We are expecting to pick up birth certificates for both girls from our lawyer's office on Friday. Please pray that God will go before us next Monday (6 May) as we lodge the application for Annalise & Kaitlyn's Filipino passports. There is a lot of extra paperwork required to get a passport for children who have been adopted and even more for those adopted by foreigners, so please pray they will accept all the paperwork we present and not require anything extra or insist on verification of the authenticity of anything! Also pray that God will prepare the way for our Australian Adoption Visa application. Once we get the passports (within 7-10 business days) we can finally lodge this application which is the final step before booking tickets to come home. Current processing times indicate that it could be only a few months to process the visa application. Please ask God to smooth the path so that we can come home before the new school year starts again in August.
