1 INTRODUCTION
This SOW covers 3 aspects of the SDH/DWDM upgrades required for Saudi Aramco Replace Date
Network Equipment (BI074), namely:
(ii) SDH Extension (I&C services - Additional GBE & 10GBE Links)
Provision of services only – materials to be provided by Saudi Aramco
2 WDM EXTENSION
(ABQA-AINDAR4 & APS3-RIYADH REFINERY)
2.1 OVERVIEW
ODF;
Optical Fibre Cables;
Cable Tray and ground installation bay;
Shelters, battery rooms;
Materials for room preparation;
Power rectifier equipment;
Batteries;
Air conditioning system;
Synchronisation equipment;
Routers and accessories for Data Communication Network;
Test equipment.
1626LM DWDM equipments to be installed in each of the following sites, APS3,Riyadh refinery, ABQA
and AIN4. Two types of solution are proposed.
In the case of APS3 to Riyadh refinery the distance between the 2 sites is 150Km! As there is no
possibility to add ILA in between, we are providing a solution with LH equipment & design.
In the case of ABQA to Ain4 , we extend the existing link using the same Metro config. We are
adapting the Terminal in ABQA to become an OADM and we are providing a new terminal in AIN4.

Existing equipment
In ABQA is added a Mux/demux and the necessary amplifiers, as well as the S64.2 TPD & the 10GBE
TPD.
In Aindar4 is installed a new rack & a 1626LM shelf housing the common part as well as the S64.2
TPD & the 10GBE TPD.
Note: Specific case of S64.2 TPD. In fact the target is to transport through the WDM an STM64 which
was before connected directly to the fibre. So from the client side the existing interface is L64.2.
But we don’t need in the new case such power-full interface as the distance from the client
equipment to the TPD is short. So we will provide an S64.2 interface + 6dB attenuators to be able
to interconnect the client to the transponders without burning the receiver!
Note 2 : the extension in the existing network are not part of this offer.

With above parameters, the detailed link loss and system design is show in the following:
The solution proposed is based on 1626LM; the detailed configurations of DWDM links are indicated in
above figures. For each DWDM station, the Mux/Demux, Optical Amplifier (1110/1120), Transponder
(TRBD) and DCU (Dispersion Compensation Unit) are equipped for regional application. The site type
includes OADM.
The optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) estimates the “optical quality” of a signal. It represents the
power ratio between the signal and the ASE noise contained in the 0.1-nm spectral region around the
signal wavelength. The higher the channel OSNR, the lower is the noise on the signal bandwidth, and
the larger the signal quality.
Detailed analysis on the OSNR spectrum of all the sections has been performed. In the analysis, it is
ensured that the ONSR spectrum for all the 8 channels is within the threshold.
Please note that the OSNR measures the amount of noise on a channel, nevertheless the ultimate
criterion for the signal quality in a transmission system is the bit-error-rate (BER). The BER is the
ratio, measured over a given time window, of erroneous bits over the total number of transmitted
bits. The BER does not depend on the OSNR only but also on the signal distortion, which is mainly
produced by the interaction between chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects. It is for this reason
that it is not sufficient to reach the required OSNR to guarantee a correct performance, but it is also
necessary to respect the nonlinear-effects power threshold and the dispersion mapping rules, as
explained in the next paragraphs.
Thorough DCM mapping has been performed. Basically there are two important points to be
considered:
That the residual dispersion of every channel should fall between –500 to 900 ps.nm
That the dispersion slope for the LEAF G.655 fibre is properly addressed.
The below figures indicates the DCM mapping for Link1 with distance of 150KM between APS3 and
Riyadh refinery ,Link2 with distance of 65KM between ABQA and AIN4, respect the CD residual rule
as specified above.
Note; mapping drawing show both spans, Go and return for both links, 150KM and 65KM.

3 SDH EXTENSION
(I&C SERVICES – ADDITIONAL GBE & 10GBE LINKS)
3.1 OVERVIEW
Important note: IF the 10GBE use all the bandwidth available between YCOT &
APS3, The existing traffic should be transferred to the STM16 link. The services
related to this transfer are not considered in this offer. We consider that the
SDH 10G between YCOT & APS3 will be free to proceed to the I&C of the 10GBE
requested.
In this offer we consider that there is free bandwidth between the sites on an existing SDH stream.
If not any additional equipment/services necessary to implement these path/link are not part of this
offer.
3.5.2 DCN
The DCN provision for the NEs will be customer’s responsibility. This includes the HW like routers
(new or existing as required) or changes / addition to existing DCN design.

We are proposing Standard services of installation and commissioning for the new installed ISA ES16
& 4*GBE boards
Transportation to the site is not under ALU responsibility. We will consider only the equipment
delivered in the sites.
Before the installation, the customer will guarantee the staff for the access site. After site delivery,
Alcatel-Lucent staffs will perform installation of the supplied system. Please note that the installers
will come with their own tools and will go back with them.

4 DWDM EXTENSION
(I&C SERVICES- ADDITIONAL 10GBE LINKS)
4.1 OVERVIEW
Purpose of this technical description is to give a detailed explanation and overview of the optical
DWDM solution to extend the WDM network as requested in BI74 project.
The proposed network consists of addition of the following 10GBE :
1*10GBE Between DEHB & ABQA
2*10GBE between ABQC & APS3
1*10GBE Between IPSA5 & SAFC
Total 8*Transponders
The network is designed for 16 Lambda. So there is no need to study the design again, the existing
equipment will support these additional Lambdas without changing anything.

5 GENERAL SERVICES
5.3 ACCEPTANCE
Commissioning services are followed by agreed tests carried out by Alcatel-Lucent and witnessed by
the customer or his representative as agreed in the Contract. The Alcatel-Lucent standard test
program & procedures are communicated to the customer at least two months before the
commencement of the commissioning. Alcatel-Lucent will inform the customer when the equipment
is ready for acceptance testing.
If the customer wishes to make modifications to the Alcatel-Lucent standard test program &
procedures resulting in test planning time overrun, the financial consequences of such overrun will
be subject to prior agreement between the two parties.
Once the test of the network is complete, the customer will be informed and called for witnessing
the Acceptance test according to the test protocol. The customer will be informed in advance of the
beginning of the test. Once the Acceptance test has been successfully completed, the customer will
issue a “Provisional Acceptance Certificate” which will be signed by the Customer and Alcatel-
Lucent.
Under acceptance criterion an acceptance test sheet signed by customer or live traffic being
put on the newly installed nodes / links will tantamount to handover of nodes to the customer
officially.
