B. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This history lesson plan is designed for 3rd grade students, it is designed to introduce students to the unit we will be doing on different Native American cultures. The information for this lesson was found on the Internet. For reading and information students will be using their book: Tools of Native Americans: A kids Guide to
the History and Culture of the First Americans.

H1.3.3A- Learn about current or past individuals around the world and discuss their contributions. Student friendly objectives: Students will identify individuals around the world and discuss their contributions Students will identify current or past individuals around the word and discuss their contributions.

F. Procedure: 1. The introduction to this unit will be a YouTube video of Native American art and music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug2TrGD7INY Explain: First I will explain that we will be learning about the Native Americans and that today I will give them general information and as the week goes on we will learn more details about different Native American Tribes. Call students attention to the K/W/L chart on the board. Identify & discuss we will identify and discuss what we know, and want to know about Native Americans. Introduce key words that will be used in the reading. 2. As a class, we will read 9-20 in Chapter 1 of the book: Tools of Native Americans: A kids Guide to the History and Culture of the First Americans, stopping to ask questions about the information we have read. 3. Students should be following along while reading and taking notes in their journals. They will be required to list 5 interesting facts they learned from the reading.

5. Ask questions as an ongoing check for understanding. 6. Closure: Discuss key characteristics of the Native Americans. I will review the information learned and assess whether the class grasped the information G. Assessment: To assess the students understanding I will have them journal about the lesson. They will have to write what they know individually about Native Americans and what they hope to learn. They may include the information learned in the lesson. This journal entry is more to assess their background knowledge. I will know whether the students understand the concepts taught by observing them while doing the lesson and by what I read in their journals. This piece measures students understanding because the students will be able to put down their own ideas and questions into their journals.
