There is in this course of instruction of the living God enough for you to be an overwhelming victor in the strife of life. In fact life loses its strife when ones learns the secret of communion with the mighty power you are soon to hear about. Jesus knew what he was talking about; not all the things attributed to him did he say. But he did say enough for you and me to find God. Once you and I do that we never fear anything else. It is absolutely necessary for you discard entirely whatever theories or notions you have about what and who God is. It is also necessary for you to disabuse yourself for your belief in a subconscious mind. if you hold that belief. God is not mind of any kind. They have nothing in common, and the mighty life spirit, about which you are to learn is not mind of any sort; it cannot be. So get that out theory out of your head if it is in there. You must read this lesson quietly every day. Remember you are attempting to contact the most dynamic unseen power in the universe. So please obey my instructions to the letter. There is a lot of teaching in every lesson left to the student himself. Only the high places have been touched. It would be impossible to go into much detail of a work this size. You must use your own reason and head. THINK UPON THESE LESSONS, LET THEM BECOME A VERY PART OF YOU, and you will find ere long, that they point the way to the greatest power you have ever known or ever will know. THE POWER OF THE MIGHTY, UNCHANGABLE, PRESENT, LIFE GIVING, HEALING, DYNAMIC LIVING GOD. At the very beginning of your studies you are starting at thee most important work you have ever undertaken in your life. You are now dealing with the most dynamic power in the universe. Little is this power understood, for if it were there would not be the misery, sickness, and poverty all around us. The time is at hand however when the potent dynamic force about which you are to learn will be common knowledge and the facts are as you are to learn will be universally accepted. In dealing with the facts as I shall deal with them I warn you in advance , that you shall not be surprised at anything I may say to you. Remember this course of instruction has not sprung into existence overnight.

Lesson II THE STORY OF CREATION Frank B. Robinson The Ten Lessons of Psychiana The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho April 30, 1930 In this Lesson we have reached the point at which we begin to 'dig into' some of the mysteries of this marvelous universe of ours. You will observe as we go along, how the things which have puzzled religious leaders for many years assume a marvelous simplicity when understood. There is always a key to every so-called mystery connected with Spiritual things which are seemingly unexplainable, and usually the key lies in plain sight and can be easily seen by those who are intent on finding it. It is often to be seen so clearly that those searching for it, obsessed by the idea that there is no key in plain sight, fail to see it. They are so imbued with the thought that the great mysteries of God are unfathomable, that they utterly fail to grasp the answer, even when it is given in plain, unmistakable language.

Such has been the case in the story of the creation of this world, and indeed, of the entire universe. It is not necessary for me to use the Bible in giving to you the facts of creation, but as this course of study deals with the Living God, and as the Bible is the only one of the old books dealing exclusively with the subject of God, I have chosen to use it. It will also make it a little easier for you to understand. I consider the facts of creation as told in the Bible, to be AUTHENTIC IN THEIR ENTIRETY. At no place does science clash with the scriptures. On the contrary, they dovetail into each other perfectly when understood. Of course, the Bible cannot possibly dovetail into the 3000 or more different sects, religions, denominations and what not that we have today, as each of them has a habit of twisting the scriptures to meet his own interpretations. All of them are preaching what they really believe to be the truth about God. It certainly would be a wonderful book if it could dovetail in with all these dogmas and beliefs. Science would be a wonderful thing also if IT could dovetail into them all. But neither the Bible nor science can do the impossible, and were there a God who could meet all these various requirements and interpretations, then I am afraid that such a God would not, nor indeed could not, command much interest from me. There is no such a God as that, however, and the God as He is, does not operate in accordance with these 3000 different aspects of Himself. Running hand in hand, however, and side by side, we find science and the Bible, as taught by the Galilean Carpenter TO BE ONE AND THE SAME THING. There are, of course, details which to date have not been fully explained. BUT IN ALL VITAL FACTS, SCIENCE DOES NOT DISPROVE THE BIBLE AT ALL. On the other hand, it CORROBORATES IT IN ITS ENTIRETY. WERE THERE EVER TO BE A CLASH BETWEEN SCIENCE AND THE BIBLE, THEN THE BIBLE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE SECOND PLACE, AS SCIENCE DEALS WITH THE FACTS OF GOD'S CREATION AS THEY ARE KNOWN TO EXIST, WHILE THE BIBLE IS ONLY A STORY OF THINGS AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAPPENED, AND WAS WRITTEN BY HUMAN BEINGS, JUST LIKE YOU AND ME. Moses wrote the Bible story of creation as it is given in the Genesis account, and wrote in the phraseology of his time. Were Moses here and telling the same story TODAY, he would tell the facts as he understood them in a far different manner. He lived about 6,000 years ago, while this world is proved to be in the neighborhood of from 125,000,000-150,000,000 years old. I am given to understand that one of our universities has a radio-active time clock which places the age of this world at about 135,000,000 years. Moses certainly was not here THEN.

But it seems to me that I hear several good old orthodox Christian folk say to me: 'Yes, that may all be true, Dr. Robinson, but Moses had a revelation from God which told him all the facts of creation--did he not?' Surely he did. Exactly the same sort of a revelation that John Greenleaf Whittier had when he penned the following immortal lines: 'I know not where His islands lift Their fronded palms in air. I only know I cannot drift Beyond His love and care.' --Quoted. He had the same sort of a revelation that Cardinal Newman had when he wrote his beautiful hymn--the hymn that will live as long as this world endures. It is for this reason the hymn does live: 'Lead, kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom, Lead Thou me on. The night is dark--and I am far from home-Lead Thou me on. Keep Thou my feet--I do not ask to see the distant scene. ONE STEP ENOUGH FOR ME!' --Quoted. He had the same sort of revelation that gives me the power to sit at my typewriter and give this message to the world. And at this point let me say to you that every single soul who reaches the place where he is in tune with the LIVING GOD will also have revelations. Not perhaps in the sense that some of our good orthodox Christian friends understand them, but revelations from the LIVING GOD just the same. I could ask no greater revelation from God than to have written those words of Cardinal Newman--LEAD, KINDLY LIGHT. That man could not possibly have written such verses were he not in vital touch with the Living God. Neither could Moses have written his story of creation unless he also were in the same vital living touch with the same God. I want you to realize at this point that the great LIFE-SPIRIT, whom we are here endeavoring to find and contact, NEVER CHANGES. IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT I SPOKE OF THIS SPIRIT AS A 'LAW.' HE CAN NOT CHANGE, AND THEREFORE YOU ARE AS ABLE TO KNOW HIM AS WAS MOSES, OR CARDINAL NEWMAN, or WHITTIER, or any other of the thousands on historys scroll who MUST have known Him or they could not have given to the world the truths which they did. NEVER FORGET THAT.

No man has seen God at any time, the Scriptures inform us--nor indeed could he--so whatever revelation or inspiration Moses had was received through the very same channels through which you and I may receive our revelations or our inspiration. Were I to go to the leaders of our great religious denominations, existing, by the way, for the express purpose of teaching the truths about God, and were I to say to those leaders: 'Sirs, I want you to tell me how God made the world'; I wonder what sort of an answer I should receive. I should, in all probability, be told that they did not know. I should also be told, in all probability, that no one else knew either, and that it was not given to man to know just how the created world came to be. I might also be told that the Scriptures were silent on that point, giving us no information at all. Ever since our present systems of religion sprang into existence, we have been taught that it was a mystery just how God did this. But wait a minute. IF EVER A STORY WERE PLAINLY TOLD IN ANY BOOK, THEN THE STORY OF CREATION IS PLAINLY TOLD IN THE BIBLE. Why it should be considered such a mystery, or so hard to understand, is a greater mystery than I can fathom. Read and re-read, a million times by ministers throughout the entire globe, and also by those teaching Bible truths, the story seems to be clothed in impenetrable mystery to this day, and the plain simple truth of it all seems to have been missed in its entirety. Here we find the key of which I spoke, lying on top of the puzzle, and if Moses could have put it any plainer, then I do not see how he could have done it. LISTEN CAREFULLY. It is so wonderfully simple. And yet it is so wonderfully profound. The first two verses in the Bible give us the story of the creation as it actually happened. Now listen as I unfold it to you. Genesis 1:1 reads as follows: 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.' Here we have a definite statement to the effect that God (and we shall not concern ourselves here with what God is) did a certain act. He performed a certain work. The statement is in the past tense and speaks of the deed as having been actually accomplished. IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH. There can be no question as to what THAT means. A certain person or power or something or other, DID A CERTAIN DEED. It was DONE. This power CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH. Nothing so very hard to understand about that, is there? In this sense the statement is no harder to understand than if I said to you: 'My little boy, Alfred, made a house today.' It would only signify that SOMETHING HAD BEEN DONE. And the statement of Moses signifies that something HAD BEEN DONE. The heavens and the earth had been created. I believe you will grasp that. If not, read it again and again until you do, as it is very important.

Now watch the next statement. And mark well here that we have no way of knowing just how long a time elapsed between the first statement and the second one. Furthermore, it makes no difference WHETHER IT WAS ONE SECOND OR ONE MILLION YEARS. The fact as stated, stands. The heavens and the earth had been created. Past tense. Now listen to the next statement: 'AND THE EARTH WAS WITHOUT FORM AND VOID.' Now I ask you, as a man or woman of common sense, what sort of a being would you be if YOU HAD ALREADY BEEN CREATED AND YET WERE WITHOUT FORM AND VOID? Answer that, and you have the answer to the question: 'How did God make the earth?' If you and I, created beings, were without form and void, certainly we would not be visible, would we? You cannot see anything that has no form, can you? And if the creation was without form and void, then it COULD NOT HAVE BEEN A VISIBLE CREATION, could it? And if it were not a visible creation or a creation that, after its creation, could NOT BE SEEN, THEN WHAT SORT OF A CREATION WAS IT? My friend and student, THERE IS ONLY ONE SORT OF A CREATION THAT IT POSSIBLY COULD HAVE BEEN, if the story as given by Moses is correct. And that is, A SPIRITUAL OR INVISIBLE CREATION. This fact is entirely foreign to the views that have been held for so long by the exponents of the Christian religion, but it is the story of the first creation just the same--AND TOLD EXACTLY AS THE BIBLE TELLS IT. The actual materialization of this Spiritual or invisible creation did not take place for a long time after the original first creation was an accomplished fact. If you read a little further into the Genesis account of it, you will find that it was at a later date that the herbs, trees, etc. were called into being. You will also note that an entirely different method was used by God in manifesting physically the things that He already had created. Now mark me well--the point I am trying to make here is that the creation of the earth and the actual manifestation of it were two entirely separate and different creations, each requiring a different method of operation on the part of the Living God. Some good Christian folks tell us that the entire creation required six days of twentyfour hours each. Others tell us that each day was 1000 years, and consequently the entire operation required about 6000 years to accomplish. Science, however, entirely disproves that statement, and again I repeat, where science and the Bible clash, the Bible must take second place, as science deals always and only with the FACTS AS THEY ARE KNOWN TO EXIST.

In a future Lesson we shall find out how it came to happen that this SOMETHING came between you and this mighty God, very effectively shutting you off from all communication with Him. We shall further discover just how this same communion came to be restored again; For it HAS BEEN RESTORED. Once a man learns the secret of it, he is astounded at the remarkable simplicity of it all, and of the grandeur of the entire scheme of things as it actually exists. Right here may I ask you to remember once more that the Power of the mighty Life Spirit, or Living God, is made manifest and recognized, almost invariably in the quietness. It is the 'still, quiet, small voice of the Living God.' So please be still when you are studying these Lessons. Put all thoughts of work or business or anything else completely out of your mind. You can do this if you want to. Stay quiet for an hour if you can, thinking of nothing but the facts you are here learning. I assure you it will pay you many times over. Read the first and second Lessons over again, and change your affirmation, or little speech to the following 'I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF THE LIVING GOD--I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF THE LIVING GOD.' Dont forget to be quiet, and sort of sink into yourself, and then, slowly, very slowly, continually repeat this sentence 20--30--40-- or 50 times, and more if you want to. When you tire of saying this, jump suddenly to your feet and say the same sentence three times out loud. Throughout the day, it will materially benefit you if you mentally repeat it, the more thoroughly will the work I am prescribing be done. Do not question it now. I know positively what I am talking about, and as I stated before, HAVE BEEN OVER EVERY STEP OF THE WAY BEFORE YOU. There is a reason for these exercises and you MUST do them. This subject is too profound for me to attempt to explain it all in the first Lesson or two. That cannot be done. So follow me, step by step, trusting me fully, and the little twinkling of light that you are now beginning to see will finally broaden into the full and mighty consciousness of WHO AND WHAT YOU REALLY ARE. And when THAT consciousness dawns upon your life, and permeates your whole being, you will be a changed man, if you desire to be, for you will then know how to talk intelligently to the LIVING GOD--and no man can talk personally to that mighty Life Spirit without being a changed man. Let me repeat to my students that we are here dealing with the most fundamental Truths we have ever dealt with. In no other age but this would it have been possible for a set of Lessons like this to have been written, or for a man or woman like you to have the ability to receive and understand this teaching and some of the marvelous Truths it deals with. We are not studying a fairy story by any manner of means. We are studying the STORY OF THIS WORLD, ITS GOD, AND THE MOST MARVELOUS CREATION THIS GOD EVER MADE: MAN. If you have carried out my instructions faithfully up to this point, you are beginning to get an insight into the great Spiritual Truth as it exists. If you are NOT doing these things, then please start all over again and this time DO THEM. These Lessons are doubtless interesting from a literary standpoint, but that standpoint will not get you to first base in the studies. However, those who WANT the Truth will just naturally do as I instruct them, and they will find it. This Lesson may well be called the most profound of the entire course, as it deals with GOD Himself. I realize the utter impossibility of doing it the justice I should like to. But I realize this fact, that unless a man could have followed me all these past years, in my search after the Living God, he could by no manner of means have the same insight into the matter that has rewarded my efforts. Please remember that I am only a human being, just as you are, and with probably just as many failings as you have--maybe more. So please follow me closely, and bear with me if my efforts seem to fall far short of dealing with this dynamic subject as you would like to have it dealt with. I have this one satisfaction, and it is a big satisfaction at that--I have the satisfaction of knowing that I am giving you the very best that is in me, with what talent may have been given to me, and I am endeavoring to pass along to you these mighty Truths as I have received them. They come direct to me from the Source of all Truth, and therefore, THEY CANNOT BE WRONG; THEY MUST BE THE TRUTH. Were I depending on what any other

man has written, or upon what I have heard, then the element of doubt as to the truth of these statements would be very pertinent. As it is, FALSEHOOD CANNOT ENTER INTO THEM. Before you go any further with this mighty Lesson, if you are not already in a quiet, restful mood, please get into just such a mood. Concentrate on the Lesson to the exclusion of all other thoughts, and arrange so that you will not be interrupted while studying it. I also suggest that you read this Lesson three times in succession. It will pay you to do so. And now let us go to the actual study of this mighty, unchangeable, immutable, allpowerful, never-changing God of ours. And let me say to you here, that the Living God, as I shall reveal Him to you, will, in all probability, be a far different God from what you have imagined Him to be to date. As you progress, however, you will find that you are accepting every statement made to you, and that the entire Lesson is corroborated by either the Bible or science, and many chances to one, by both of them. Only one man ever lived who claimed to be God. I mean, of course, only one man whose claims were worthy of the consideration of a moments thought. I am not admitting that this man WAS God at this point. However, he did what no other man has ever been able to do either before or since, so He is worthy of some consideration. I allude to the Galilean Carpenter, JESUS. Three entire Lessons are devoted to him later on, so we shall not stop to go into his claims here. They will be gone into when we are considering them. Suffice it to say at this point that I consider him to be essentially what he claimed to be. And considering him to be just that, I shall take him to be an authority on God at this point. I know of no other man qualified, up to this time even to attempt to define God. There have been many since he came who are qualified so to speak about God. But up to this time of Christ the world had known no such a man. Not only did he claim to come from God, but HE ACTUALLY DEMONSTRATED THE FACT THAT HE AT LEAST KNEW GOD. So I shall quote from him, and give him the authority he is supposed to have claimed. I can do nothing else. So, shall we see just what HE had to say about what God was? I shall ask you to go back to the story of the woman of Samaria at the well of Jacob. You will remember that Jesus had asked her for a drink of water. In the conversation that followed, he made the positive, definite assertion that GOD IS SPIRIT. He did not say, 'God is A sprit.' If you will look in the authorized version of the Bible, you

will see that the article 'A' has been italicized. This means that it was interpolated or placed there by the translators in order to, as they thought, make sense out of the statement. They made nonsense out of it, and shrouded it in mystery. In other words, they translated the sentence AS THEY THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE TRANSLATED, AND TO MAKE IT JIBE WITH THEIR OWN IDEAS OF WHAT GOD WAS. And let me say a word to the warring church factions here, and this is it: -If you would only understand that the men who translated this Bible were ordinary, every day human individuals, just as you and I are. If you would only understand that they were only educated up to the light of their time, then it seems to me that you would not care what interpretation was placed on the creation of man. What difference does it make, whether man's creation took one second or ten million years? What difference does it make whether man started as a humble amoeba, progressing through the ages until his present stage was reached, or whether he was instantly made in one short space of time? That is not what matters, my friends. What actually matters is: WHAT MESSAGE HAVE YOU FROM THE LIVING GOD TO THE MAN ON THE STREET HERE AND NOW? If you and your brethren continue to fight and war on the interpretation of the Bible, WHAT LIGHT IS THE MAN ON THE STREET GOING TO GET OUT OF IT? That is what matters. And there is one thing that you can bank on, and that is that these men who deciphered this Bible of yours were 100 percent human. And there is another thing you may bank on, and that is the fact that the men who WROTE IT WERE ALSO 100-PERCENT HUMAN. And if they were, then they certainly were subject to human limitation, just as you and I are. So quit your squabbling, and get down to basic fundamental facts about the mighty Truths of THE LIVING GOD AS HE ACTUALLY EXISTS, because all your squabbling will not hinder the work of the mighty Life Spirit. What will happen is that the revelations which should come through you WILL COME THROUGH SOMEONE ELSE WHO MAKES NO PROFESSION OF RELIGION AT ALL. To say 'A' spirit, would have been implying the existence of more than one spirit, and JESUS DID NOT DO THIS. So then we have the statement from one who knew, that GOD IS SPIRIT. A very definite, plain, and understandable statement. And how it differs from the present accepted views of God! And how it opens up like a rose, the entire scriptures, when fully grasped! The next thing incumbent upon us then, in order to have an intelligent explanation of what God is, is to find out what Spirit is. So far we have the definite assurance that GOD IS SPIRIT.

I think Webster is the accepted authority today, so we shall quote him. His definition is that spirit is Life, or intelligence, conceived of, or capable of existence of being without physical form. Here we are getting down to something definite about God. We are getting at a definition of terms. We are not accepting what someone else told us, neither are we accepting some theory or other. We are getting down to bed-rock, so to speak. We have then, the statement that God is life or intelligence, capable of existence without bodily form. And it is the best definition possible. THAT definition is corroborated throughout the entire scriptures. So I shall take it as it stands. There are, of course, many other things that God is, BUT BEFORE HE COULD HAVE BEEN ANY OF THESE THINGS, HE MUST NEEDS HAVE BEEN LIFE FIRST. I wish I could drive that statement home to you. Let me repeat it once more. BEFORE GOD COULD HAVE BEEN ANY OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT HE IS, HE MUST NEEDS HAVE BEEN LIFE FIRST. And without LIFE, all of the other things that He is would be as nought. They would be theoretical. HAD HE NOT BEEN LIFE, HE NEVER COULD HAVE BEEN ANYTHING ELSE. So I shall concentrate on the fact we have discovered, that GOD IS SPIRIT, and that SPIRIT IS LIFE, CAPABLE OF EXISTENCE WITHOUT PHYSICAL FORM. When you grasp that statement to the full, you will then begin to understand what God really is, and more than that, WHERE HE IS. Try to imagine this Living God, the most dynamic Power in the universe, being all around you, in the air, in the very same room in which you are reading this, BUT INDISCERNIBLE TO YOU IN YOUR PRESENT STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS. THAT IS THE EXACT FACT OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD. THIS LIVING, DYNAMIC POWER, THIS MIGHTY GOD, IS IN THE VERY AIR YOU BREATHE, but LIVING IN IT, AND YET NOT A PART OF IT. This statement completely revolutionizes the entire understanding of God as we have it today. You must make a clean-cut distinction here, though, between God's actually living in any part of your physical body, and his actual presence there. To say that God dwells in you, as a body, is grossly wrong. For as Spirit He could not inhabit a material body, but to say God dwells within you, and at the same time has positively no physical connection with you at all, is stating the Truth as it actually exists. Many Psychologists find it hard to do this. So they immediately go on the assumption that God Himself, or some attribute of Him, ACTUALLY LIVES AND OPERATES THROUGH THE BRAIN, THE SPINAL COLUMN, OR SOME OTHER PHYSICAL PART OF THE HUMAN MECHANISM. Such an interpretation is

grossly misleading, and is false in its entirety. Furthermore, GOD HAS NO ATTRIBUTES OF ANY KIND. HE HAS NO MIND. HE CANNOT HAVE. AND THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 'GOD-MIND' or a 'GOD-CONSCIOUSNESS', or a 'GOD-ANYTHING ELSE'. There cannot be because "GOD IS, NOT HAS..." When I saw the flock of geese flying high in the sky and filling the air below with their honks, I saw GOD IN ACTUAL OPERATION, THROUGH AN IMMUTABLE LAW HE MADE AGES AGO THAT GEESE SHOULD FLY. And when I saw the little robins building their nest, I SAW GOD IN ACTUAL OPERATION THROUGH A LAW HE PASSED AGES AGO, WHICH LAW GAVE TO THE LITTLE ROBINS THE DESIRE TO MATE AND THE POWER TO BUILD THEIR OWN NESTS-- And when I went into my bedroom and looked upon the sleeping form of my little Alfred, I SAW GOD IN ACTUAL OPERATION THROUGH AN IMMUTABLE LAW HE MADE AGES AGO, WHICH LAW ORDAINED THAT THE HUMAN RACE SHOULD PROPAGATE THEIR OWN KIND. AND IN THE SLEEPING FORM OF ALFRED I SAW THAT SAME LAW, THOUSANDS OF YEARS AFTER, STILL OPERATING. But it would be the rankest kind of untruth were I to state that either the Living God Himself, or any of His supposed attributes, were actually living in, or operating through the brain or spinal column of either the geese, the robins, the grain of wheat, or the boy. Man's entire brain was given to him to control the functions of the PHYSICAL body only. The same thing with the brains of both the geese and the robins, and you may depend upon it, that no GOD, AS SUCH, ever operates personally through any flesh of any kind. As Spirit He could not possibly do that. In the body, but not of it. Also please remember here, that this body of ours is a body of death, and were it not for the immutable Law, made by God ages ago, this body could not even exist one second. But it exists by Law, and in as much as God is Law, then it exists through and by God. But in no sense of the word, can this body ever exist, either through the indwelling God on one hand, or through and by the power of any so-called 'subconscious mind,' on the other. The point I want to send home to you now is that GOD IS INVISIBLE LIFE. "In Him we live, and move, and have our being." The stunning fact is, that you could not take another breath without God. Not merely without God's help, but without God.

A sparrow cannot fly to the ground without Him. The lily on the mountainside cannot grow without Him. The wild geese would get lost without Him. The little robins might raise baby scorpions without Him. You could not wake up in the morning without Him--not without your 'sub-conscious mind'--but without HIM. Do you begin to see what I mean? This mighty Life, this mighty intelligence is EVERYWHERE. Right in the room in which I am writing this, and so close to me that in Him I press down these typewriter keys and send this message to you. And if I were to leave the room I would not take Him with me out of the room, but He would still be in the room even though I was gone. In the next room to the one in which I am writing this, lies my little boy, Alfred. I have just gone in and kissed the little fellow, for I love him more than I do my life. There lies the little body, and to all intents and purposes, and as far as he is concerned, he is as one dead. He does not know that he is asleep even. And as I stood there watching the little breast heave and contract, just what did I see? I call the little form I saw, Alfred--but is it? That is only a name, and I could not see a name. So what is it that I actually saw lying there in the little bed? Shall I tell you? Lying there on that little cot, my friends, I saw, not Alfred, but the mighty immutable GOD IN ACTUAL OPERATION. Some Psychologists would have us believe that every tree, every blade of grass, every rock, every piece of steel, in fact everything in the universe is what they call a manifestation of the universal or 'God-Mind' whatever that may be. I have explained once that mind has nothing whatever to do with it, and again I must ask you to disabuse yourself of the idea, if you hold it, that any mind of any sort manifests personally in any animate or inanimate object on this earth. That is NOT the explanation. The reason the trees grow is because AWAY BACK YONDER IN THE BEGINNING, BEFORE TREES EVER GREW, GOD COMMANDED THEM TO GROW. They can no more refuse to grow in violation of the immutable LAW, than can you or I. The reason the lily grows on the hillside is because AWAY BACK THERE IN THE BEGINNING,, BEFORE LILIES EVER GREW, GOD COMMANDED THEM TO GROW. Not because any power or mind or anything else is in them, BUT BECAUSE THIS GREAT IMMUTABLE, NEVER-CHANGING LIFE SPIRIT, CAPABLE OF EXISTENCE WITHOUT BODILY FORM, COMMANDED IT TO BE SO-- that is the answer.

In other words, this great Life Spirit made an absolutely inviolable LAW, that out of the single ear of wheat should grow the hundreds of ears. And that is the reason the farmer knows he will not reap jack-pines or cactus. When the first wild goose was created on this earth, the mighty Life Spirit that created that goose implanted within it an immutable law, which immutable law guides it from one part of the earth to another-- and THAT is the reason they cannot be fooled. And when the first pair of red-breasted robins were placed by this mighty Life Spirit on this earth, they were told to mate, and produce others-- and THAT is the reason they cannot produce SCORPIONS. And when the first two of the human race, away back yonder, lost their spiritual estate, they were commanded to grow as we are growing today. And THAT is the reason we are what we are-- and that is the reason we exist at all. Not because of any little part of GOD existing in our brain or spinal column, but BECAUSE GOD COMMANDED IT SO TO BE. Living in Him, and yet entirely separated from Him-that is the situation as it exists in the human race. So you see the question of finding the Living God is not going to be so hard as we imagined it on the start. The fact of the matter is that IT IS A HARDER THING TO GET AWAY FROM GOD THAN IT IS TO FIND HIM. Please try to grasp the idea of this LIVING GOD as being all around you, all through you, and directly responsible for the life that manifests through you. Not as your actions, but as the life itself. Your actions are not God. They are a very different thing, as you will see later. Try to grasp the idea of His being in the air, so to speak. Try to grasp the idea that you move as you do because of the mighty command and Law He gave ages ago, and yet try to imagine yourself not joined to this Living Power in the slightest degree, for you are not, for the Living God Himself is not the Law He gave. This is a very important Lesson we are to study this week. It deals with the creation and fall of man. The creation of man is not so important but the fall of man is very important. Once more we find opinions differ as to how man was actually created. The story as given us by Moses was that God made man from the dust of the ground. That statement to the Scientist and trained Psychologist is probably literally correct. But not in the way it is interpreted by those who believe in the word-for-word interpretation of this story of the creation as Moses gave it to us. I shall not take time here to enter into a scientific discussion of this question, as it is far too deep for this sort of a work. Those who believe in Moses' story verbatim will probably fail to see what I mean when I state that the story is scientifically correct. But it is so--so we shall let it go at that. We have seen so far that God is Spirit, and there is no record to date of anyone's having seen God as such. Not even Jesus ever saw the Living God. Furthermore, the scriptures teach that 'no man hath seen God at any time'. Moses stated that God formed man out of the dust of the ground, but God being SPIRIT, we cannot believe that He, with physical hands, moulded and shaped the dust or earth into the shape of a physical man. And then, when the man was made of earth, breathed into his nose the 'breath of life'. From what we have learned so far of what God essentially is, that would have been a physical impossibility. And besides, we shall see a little later that God does not create things in that manner. So it seems that we must look for another explanation of the creation of man, other than the one given to us by Moses. As far as the creation of woman goes, I personally cannot accept that either. Moses says that God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and when fast asleep took a rib from his side and made a woman. It would have been far more simple for God to have made both man and woman out of dust at the same time, than for Him to have performed such a delicate operation as removing a rib and then transforming the rib into a woman. However, probably the whole story of creation as Moses wrote it was only according to the wisdom of his day, and we shall not spend any more time discussing it, especially when we have a subject of far greater importance to discuss in this Lesson. We are told that after God had finished His creation of the man and woman, he planted a garden and placed both the man and the woman in it to care for it. Now please remember at this point that there was not another human soul on this earth but this couple. Then we are told, God gave to this couple certain things to do, telling them just what they could do and just what they could NOT do. Here they were, the man and the woman, fresh from the hand of the Living God, and both in each other's presence, NAKED AND NOT KNOWING IT. Now I ask you to

try to conceive of what sort of being a man and a woman would be, to be both together and naked, AND NOT BE ABLE TO COMPREHEND THE FACT THAT THEY WERE NAKED. For it was not until later that they knew they were naked. Spend a little time in thought here, and try to imagine a couple so constituted that the presence of each other in a naked condition had no effect upon them at all. In fact THEY DID NOT KNOW THEMSELVES THAT THEY WERE NAKED. Now listen a moment, please, I want to ask you a question here. Suppose for a moment that you and I were of such a mentality that we could be placed in the same position as this first created couple, AND NO THOUGHT OF THE PHYSICAL EVER ENTERS OUR MINDS. We would be a pretty spiritually minded couple, would we not? The fact of the matter is, however, that the first created couple, as this mighty Life Spirit made them, HAD NO SENSE OF THE PHYSICAL AT ALL. They could not even see the physical. For had they been able to see each other as fleshly bodies, they would have known that they were unclothed. BUT THEY KNEW IT NOT. I am of the opinion here that they were purely Spiritual creations, having no such thing as a physical body at all. Either that, or they possessed a physical body and were not conscious of it, which means the same thing. I am of the further opinion that this part of the creation of man is identical to the part of the creation of the universe UP TO THE TIME GOD CALLED IT INTO EXISTENCE BY WORD OF MOUTH. We have very plainly seen that the initial creation of the earth was a mental creation. I believe the story of the creation of man up to this point to be a similar creation. It could not have been any other kind. Now we shall see what happened to cause man to become a physical being, and what caused that event to take place. What a pity it is that the event took place--but it did-there is no denying that fact. The next step in the story of mans creation (for you must remember that he is not yet in the form in which we have him today) runs about as follows: This first created man and woman had been told by this mighty Life Spirit which had created them that there were certain things which they MUST NOT DO. Whether it was a literal apple tree or a literal gooseberry bush does not enter into the discussion at all. It makes no difference whether it were such, or whether it were not. The fact of prime importance here is the fact that GOD TOLD THIS MAN AND THIS WOMAN THAT IF THEY DID CERTAIN THINGS, INEVITABLE DEATH WOULD FOLLOW. That is the prime factor here. (And in passing let me call the student's attention to the fact that instead of the opening of the eyes of the man and

woman bringing LIFE to them, it brought DEATH. Now note carefully: THIS DEATH IS WHAT WE CALL LIFE TODAY.) And then we are told God left them alone. We are to presume here that both the man and the woman BELIEVED GOD when He informed them that they would die if they did a certain thing---disobeyed Him. At this point there comes into the picture a sinister figure--and a figure that is responsible for the entire suffering of the human race to date. Moses says a serpent entered the garden. It makes no difference whether it was a snake or a porcupine that actually entered this garden where those two created beings of God were. The whole picture is entirely illustrative. This snake, or whatever it might have been, speaking physically, went to the man and the woman and asked them if it were a fact that God had told them that they would die if they did a certain thing. It makes no difference if that thing were the eating of an apple or anything else, remember that. The actual act is beside the point. On being told that it was a fact that God had so informed this man and woman, the snake or something it represents, said unto the couple in effect: 'DID GOD SAY THAT YOU WOULD DIE? WELL, THAT ISN'T SO. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT. YOU WON'T DIE.' Now, beloved student, hear me well. HAD THAT MAN AND THAT WOMAN THEN AND THERE SAID TO THE SNAKE, 'OH, YES, WE WILL DIE! GOD SAID SO,' I should not be here writing this to you, and neither would you be in your room reading it. NEITHER WOULD THERE BE A SINGLE SOLITARY THING IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE CONTRARY TO THE GREAT, IMMUTABLE GOD--NOT EXCEPTING THE EARTH ITSELF--for this entire world as we have it today is in itself, contrary to and opposed to the great Spiritual God. Had there been no disobedience on the part of that first couple, there would be NOTHING PHYSICAL IN THE ENTIRE CREATION. Remember that. Had this man and woman taken THAT stand--how different it all would have been! But they did not, and right here is the ACTUAL DEED THAT BROUGHT UPON THIS EARTH ALL THE MISERY, POVERTY, SICKNESS, AND DEATH IT HAS EVER SEEN. AND THE ACT OR DEED WHICH CAUSED IT ALL WAS THE FACT THAT THE MAN AND WOMAN BELIEVED THE SNAKE IN PREFERENCE TO BELIEVING GOD. Do you see that? Not only did they choose to believe the serpent, or what it represents, but they deliberately SHOWED THEIR DISBELIEF IN THE SPOKEN WORDS OF GOD

BY ACTUALLY DOING THE VERY THING THAT GOD HAD COMMANDED THEM NOT TO DO. In other words, they showed this mighty Spirit that had created them that they would rather OBEY SOMEONE ELSE THAN HIM. Now listen to what happened--and listen well. THE MOMENT THEY DELIBERATELY CHOSE TO OBEY THE SNAKE RATHER THAN GOD, AND THE MOMENT THEY ACTUALLY DISOBEYED GOD, THEIR EYES WERE OPENED AND THEY KNEW THEY WERE NAKED. If their eyes at this point were opened, then it must follow that they had been closed up to this point. Now, just what effect did the opening of their eyes have on them? Only one effect, and that terrible in its consequences. IT GAVE THEM THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF PHYSICAL EXISTENCE WHICH, UP TO THAT POINT THEY HAD NEVER KNOWN. So you see, prior to the disobedience of God there was NO SUCH A THING AS PHYSICAL CONSCIOUSNESS. THAT came when man's eyes were opened. And I shall state, in passing, that when the same eyes are closed that were opened in the garden, then, and only then, can man be what he was before the fall. This, Jesus came to do, as we shall see later. What happened from that time on is more or less history, and we shall not concern ourselves with it here. The purpose of this Lesson is to show you the mighty significance of the fact of the "fall" of man, so that you may intelligently understand it, and understand the things which are to be told you further along in your studies. I have purposely refrained from considering the scientific explanation of the creation of man from the amoeba, etc., as it is beside the question here. Whether man was formed in a few seconds, or whether it took ten million years to bring him to his present state, makes no difference to the story as unfolded in this Lesson. Neither does it make any difference whether the woman was actually taken from a man's rib structure or not. What a simple thing it is to listen to this story of the 'fall' of man--and yet what vital truths are herein contained. By this time you are beginning to grasp the truth as it has been presented to you, and as you slowly, but surely grasp it, you will most assuredly see that this earth, and everything connected with it, is the result of unbelief. You will also begin to grasp the truth that whatsoever we have on this earth is ONLY SECONDARY TO THINGS AS THEY REALLY ARE. The REAL things are the UNSEEN things. The things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are UNSEEN are eternal.

Another thing you can see is the fact that if the opening of the eyes of man to physical things closed his eyes to spiritual things, or in other words, to THINGS AS THEY ARE, then as long as we are physical, OUR EYES WILL STILL BE CLOSED TO THE REAL OR THE SPIRITUAL THINGS. This was a fact until the appearance of the Galilean Carpenter. Up to his manifestation it was NOT POSSIBLE FOR A SINGLE HUMAN SOUL TO PENETRATE THE VEIL OF CONSCIOUSNESS NOR TO GLEAN ONE SINGLE SOLITARY TRUTH FROM THE UNSEEN REALM. His coming made a difference, however, as we shall see when we study about him in some future Lessons. I shall say to you here, by way of advance, that HE CAME TO SHOW YOU AND ME HOW TO RESTORE THE SPIRITUAL SIGHT OR VISION THAT WAS LOST WHEN MAN'S PHYSICAL EYES WERE OPENED, away back in the first creation. BUT, and it is a very big BUT--a lot of things have happened, and the eternal Truth which he came to proclaim HAS BEEN UTTERLY MISSED BY THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE UP TO NOW. And now, nearly 2,000 years after his message was given, and after the liberating Truths were proclaimed, is their profound significance beginning to be understood. I shall now show you in this Lesson how to actually SPEAK TO THE LIVING GOD. It is all so wonderfully simple after all. And it is so charged with dynamic Power that you will love to commune with this great Living God before you have held conversation with Him for many weeks. For HE ANSWERS, and simple though the fact of talking to Him may appear, let me say to you, that THE DYNAMIC POWER OF THIS MIGHTY LIFE SPIRIT WILL NOT FOOL YOU. YOU WILL RECEIVE THE ANSWER TO YOUR PETITIONS, when you learn how to TAKE them. You have seen from these studies up to now that God is Spirit--that is, LIFE EXISTING WITHOUT PHYSICAL FORM, or, INVISIBLE LIFE. You have seen further that He is everywhere. You have seen that you cannot exist without Him. NOW, IF HE IS EVERYWHERE, HE IS IN THE VERY ROOM IN WHICH YOU ARE SITTING, studying this Lesson. With the physical eyes you now possess, YOU CANNOT SEE HIM. Had not the Spiritual or mental consciousness with which man was first endowed been SHUT OFF by the disbelief of the first created couple, YOU WOULD STILL BE ABLE TO SEE HIM SPIRITUALLY AND TO TALK TO HIM AS THAT FIRST CREATED COUPLE DID IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN. But, although YOU changed, NO CHANGE HAPPENED TO GOD. HE IS STILL THE SAME GOD THAT HE WAS BACK YONDER IN THE CREATION, AND THIS BEING A

FACT, YOU CAN TALK TO HIM TODAY SPIRITUALLY, JUST AS YOUR TWO FORE-PARENTS DID, EVEN THOUGH YOU CANNOT SEE HIM. Do not forget that there is still the 'sense-veil' in between, and this veil very effectively shuts GOD off from your mortal vision. BUT HE IS ALL AROUND YOU AND IN YOU JUST THE SAME. AND WHEN YOU BELIEVE THAT AND SHOW YOUR BELIEF BY COMMUNING WITH OR TALKING TO HIM, YOU WILL FIND TO YOUR EVERLASTING JOY THAT HE IS THERE. In order to talk directly to the Living God, I want you, when the time comes for your usual study of these Lessons and your affirmation, to be very quiet. Close the eyes as usual, and instead of speaking to yourself, as you may think you have been doing, SPEAK DIRECTLY TO THE ACTUAL PRESENCE OF THE LIVING GOD HIMSELF. And you may rest assured that whatever you say to Him will be heard. You may tell Him all the things you desire to have and be. You may tell Him the thing that is nearest to your heart, and you may bank upon it. HE IS THERE--AND HE IS LISTENING TO YOU, PLEASED BEYOND MEASURE AT THE LITTLE BIT OF FAITH YOU ARE MANIFESTING IN TALKING TO HIM. A little later you will learn the Lesson of how to TAKE from Him everything that you need. When you learn THAT, you will have learned that this mighty Life Spirit is a very real thing to you. At this point I shall not ask you to lay any special demands upon this mighty Living God, as you do not know at this time how to take from Him the things you want. And the taking is the only thing that keeps you from having these very things--you do not know how to take them. I shall show you this later. Let your conversation with this mighty Life Spirit at this time be along the general line of what it is that you most desire, in a general way. Maybe it is health, and maybe it is business success; but no matter what it is, just talk in a quiet, reverent way directly to this unseen but very real Presence. Instead of saying: I BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF THE LIVING GOD, you may say: "I AM IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LIVING GOD, AND I AM TALKING TO HIM NOW." As you get used to this affirmation you can then talk directly to Him as you would do to me if I were sitting there in your room with you. All this may seem rather strange to you now, but I swear to you, on my honor as a man and as a Psychologist, that the mighty Life Spirit will assuredly make His presence known to you. And to know this mighty Presence aright, is Life, is Peace, is Health, is Joy, and is your all-sufficiency. Here you have the Bible formula of prayer stripped of all its mysticism, and put down on a common every-day basis, where even the simplest can understand it. This talking

personally with God will bring you more peace of mind, and will open up the unseen Spiritual Realm as nothing else can. So BE DILIGENT IN THIS EXERCISE. Remember, you are dealing with the most dynamic Power in the universe. Lesson V SIN -- WHAT IT IS -- AND WHAT IT IS NOT Frank B. Robinson The Ten Lessons The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho June 11, 1930 At the beginning of this Lesson shall we pause for a moment or two and retrospect for a little while to see just where we have progressed in these important studies. One mistake many of my students make is to expect the things of God to be revealed to them instantly. This is rather an unusual expectation, because in no other course of study does one understand the full import of it and learn all about it, instantly. If you are studying to be a Doctor of Medicine, or a Doctor of Psychology you will have to pursue a definite course of studies over a period of years, sometimes four or five, before you are able to understand all that the course of instruction teaches you. You cannot grasp the full Truth immediately. Nor can you become a competent Physician, or Psychologist, or Lawyer, or whatever it may be, without actual experience in the lessons as taught. The Doctor will serve as an intern in some hospital. The Lawyer will practice free of charge in the police court. The Psychologist will practice his Science for quite some time before he is competent to teach others. In the study of the Living God you must not be too impatient. I realize how, when once the student begins to grasp the tremendous import of it all, he is so staggered and sometimes dumbfounded by the truth of the actuality of the presence of the Living God and the immense possibilities it contains, that he immediately wants to leap into a full knowledge of the entire Truth. I understand this longing and desire; and it is perfectly natural for the student to feel this. But as in Medicine, and Psychology, and Law; only actual practice will make perfect, so it is in the study of the Living God.

It takes actual experience and the definite and unswerving practice in the actual contacting of Him to make one progress along the line of perfection. And while it is true that the mighty immutable God we are learning about never changes, it is also true that you and I are still in the fleshly form that was made manifest when the eyes of man, by disobedience, were first opened to this same fleshly form. And just as long as this condition is in existence, then so long will there be a "sense-veil" between you and this mighty Life Spirit. He is there, but never forget that you are in the flesh, and not spirit. The hymn writer saw the Truth when he penned the following beautiful lines: Jesus--these eyes have never seen That radiant form of Thine. The veil of sense lies dark between Thy blessed face and mine. I see Thee not--I hear Thee not-Yet Thou art oft with me, And earth has ne'er so dear a spot As where I meet with Thee. Like some bright dream that comes unsought When slumbers o'er me roll, Thine image ever fills my thought, And charms my ravished soul. But though I have not seen, and still Must rest in faith alone, I love Thee, dearest Lord, and will-UNSEEN--BUT NOT UNKNOWN. --Quoted. The man who wrote that hymn knew the Living God. So I desire my students always to remember that they are in a state of physical being, and as such are in a state of enmity towards God, being in a state of--well, shall we say--rebellion towards Him. YOUR ANCESTORS, away back, WERE THE VERY TWO WHO, WHEN THEY WERE ENJOYING THE PERFECT BLISS OF PERFECT COMMUNION WITH THE LIVING GOD, DELIBERATELY CHOSE TO THROW AWAY THAT PERFECT LIBERTY, AND ALL THE JOYS ATTENDANT TO IT. AND IN SO DOING, LOST THEIR COMMUNION WITH THIS GREAT GOD. AND BY SO DOING BROUGHT DEATH, DISEASE, SICKNESS, AND POVERTY ON

THEMSELVES--and not only on themselves, but on the entire human race--YOU INCLUDED. So do not expect that you will instantly be able to restore that communion. IT CAN be restored, and I will show you how to do it, but please always remember that you are a human, physical form, and not a spiritual or spirit being, as your two ancestors were. Away back there these two ancestors WERE spirit beings, or spiritual beings. But you and I are a long way from being that now. So just obey me as I endeavor to instruct you. I can assure you that I know the way. It is very simple when once understood. The Carpenter knew it and proclaimed it, and the scriptures are full of it. All they need is to be understood exactly as Jesus understood and taught them. I perchance seem to hear you say that if the way is so simple, why is it that more people have not found it? THE TRUTH THAT JESUS PROCLAIMED WAS SO STAGGERING IN ITS IMMENSITY, AND SO DIFFERENT FROM THE IDEAS OF GOD HELD BY THE JEWS, THAT THEY, IN THEIR UTTER IGNORANCE OF WHAT THE CARPENTER WAS TEACHING, EVEN THOUGH HE ACCOMPANIED IT WITH MIRACLES, REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE TEACHING, AND CRUCIFIED THE CARPENTER, AND DENOUNCED THE ENTIRE MESSAGE AS BEING THE RAVINGS OF A CRAZY MAN. They said he had a devil. There was none other manifested to continue the message Jesus came to proclaim, and so the old system of religion continued, AND ON THOSE OLD FALSE TEACHINGS HAS BEEN BUILT THE TEACHINGS AS WE HAVE HAD THEM TAUGHT TO US BY THOSE WHO CLAIM AUTHORITY AS AMBASSADORS OF GOD TODAY. OUR ENTIRE SYSTEM OF RELIGIOUS TEACHING IS FOUNDED ON THE ERROR OF OUR FOREFATHERS OR ON A MISCONCEPTION OF THE TEACHINGS OF CHRIST. In trying to give to the world the true gospel, Jesus said, "The things that I do shall YE do also." But do we find the present day Christians doing them? Jesus said, "These signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover; if they shall eat any deadly thing it shall not hurt them," etc. etc. But do we find the Christians doing THIS today? Jesus said, "Whatsoever ye shall ask in My name shall be done unto you"--but do we find this being done today? These, and many other signs were to follow those who believed on him, according to Jesus. But where are they?

The first thing for the student to grasp is that THERE IS ONLY ONE SIN IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE--AND THAT SIN IS UNBELIEF. Never forget that. And never forget further, that THIS WORLD, AS A WHOLE, STILL DISBELIEVES THE SAME THING THAT ITS TWO FOREPARENTS DISBELIEVED IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN--ALTHOUGH IN A DIFFERENT WAY. And this sin of unbelief is entirely responsible for all the other sins in the world. "Well," you say, "Dr. Robinson, are there no burglaries, murders, thefts, etc., and are not these all sins?" Yes, they are all sins--AND EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM IS DIRECTLY TRACEABLE TO THAT ONE GREAT SIN AWAY BACK YONDER IN THE BEGINNING--THE SIN OF UNBELIEF. If this world believed in the actual presence of the LIVING GOD, so close to it that it could literally speak to Him and get an answer, how much sin do you think would remain in the world, and for how long? The beauties of the Spiritual existence would so overwhelm the so-called pleasures of THIS world that the one who fooled with them would be the exception rather than the rule. But BECAUSE THIS WORLD CANNOT ACTUALLY SEE GOD, IT REFUSES TO BELIEVE THE HE EXISTS, FORGETTING ENTIRELY THAT THE EYE WHICH COULD SEE GOD WAS CLOSED AGES AGO. But if my students will only grasp the mighty fact that the LIVING GOD IS PRESENT HERE AND NOW, and is vitally interested in every man's welfare--if I can get my students to see that--then I shall have accomplished a wonderful purpose. As I write this, my little Alfred is in the next room painting. I do not see him. But I know he is there, and if I call him he will answer, "What is it, Daddy?" It is the same identical thing with God. He is here, in the very atmosphere in which we move, and now that we understand why we cannot see Him, we shall be very foolish if we do not comprehend the fact that He is here. It is not HIS fault that we cannot see Him, and personally speaking, neither is it ours. It is, however, the fault of those two fore-parents of ours away back yonder at the creation of man, and while you and I personally had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual believing of God, WE ARE THE DIRECT DESCENDANTS OF THE COUPLE WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CLOSING OF THE EYES THAT ONCE COULD SEE HIM. The Bible tells us that as by one man sin or doubt entered the world, by one man shall it be taken away again. That is up to us to do. These Lessons are showing you how to do your part.

And so we see that there is only ONE sin in the world. The moment you recognize the facts that I am teaching you about the actual presence of the Living God, just that moment will you bend every effort to know all you can about Him. You will find that the physical part of you is in rebellion against the spiritual part, but do not let that worry you. It always has been since the fall to date, and always will be until you yourself, by actual experience and practical work, learn just a little about the beauty of the presence of the Living God. And when you know just a little about THAT, you will lose all interest in the shallower things of this material world. I am not in the slightest degree religious, as the word is used today, but may I say that to know this mighty Life Spirit is to love Him? And when you begin to know Him, you will fall in love with Him too--you will not be able to help yourself. The most beautiful moments I have ever experienced have been, and still are, the moments when the Living God makes His presence felt in my life. These are moments of extreme happiness, which is utterly unexplainable. These are moments of POWER, utterly unexplainable, and above all, these are moments of PEACE, utterly unexplainable. Can these moments be seen by the outside world? Not at all. They are moments of communion between my REAL SELF and its God. SIN? There is no such thing to the man who knows the Living God, and this same God is just enough not to impute either sin or its consequences to the man who honors Him by acknowledging Him, and talking to Him. Never fear about THAT man ever committing very many of the multitude of so-called sins in the universe today. THAT man has learned where the real joys of life lie, and he follows them just as naturally as a duck takes to the water. At this point I shall leave you till next week. I want you now to decide what is the one thing above all others that you most NEED (not want) in your life. I can tell you the thing that will make all other things possible, and that is a fuller revelation of the Presence and Power of the Living God. That may not be your idea now; it will be later, however. But for the present, decide what it is that you most NEED from this great Life Spirit. Then in your hour of quiet meditation, use the formula: THE LIVING GOD IS--and then whatever it is that you need most. For instance, if your need is of money, say: THE LIVING GOD IS BRINGING ME MONEY. If you have some disease or other, makes no difference if it has been pronounced incurable or not, say the following: THE LIVING GOD IS MAKING ME WELL. Under no circumstances must you ever make the assertion that YOU are doing it. It would be disastrous. YOU are NOT doing it, and furthermore, you never will be able to do it. THE LIVING GOD HIMSELF DOES IT, NOT YOU.

For instance, if you were trying to be rid of some disease or other, it would be disastrous for you to say: "I'll get rid of this; or I'll fix this"; or anything on that order, because if you do, you will be disappointed. Always let your assertion be that THE LIVING GOD IS NOW DOING JUST EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT DONE. And let me assure you, my friend, that if you never will doubt, and if you keep the communication open between you and this immutable Living God, YOU WILL NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED, for God is immutable LAW.
Lesson VI JESUS--WHO HE WAS AND WHAT HE CAME TO DO Frank B. Robinson The Ten Lessons The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho June 25, 1930 In this Lesson we are to deal with the very sweetest character that ever graced history's pages. None ever lived on this earth or on any other earth who could even approach this man we are here to discuss, from the standpoint of sweetness of character, or from any other standpoint. I am talking about Jesus--the Carpenter of Galilee. And oh, how the human heart of me thrills at the prospect of writing three whole Lessons about my best pal! For we have been pals for a long time now. And we shall be pals as long as this world lasts. And then on the "other side" also, we shall be pals. It will be a different sort of friendship when the last enemy of man is destroyed, and when there is no more death. THAT friendship will continue throughout myriads of ages when there shall be no more time, and when you and I are again restored to that same Spiritual existence that our forefathers had in the garden, before they chose to doubt the word of the Living God. You and I and many millions more have discovered to our sorrow that it did not pay to doubt the spoken word of that mighty Life Spirit or God. And had [Adam and Eve] back yonder known what the awful consequences would have been, as you and I know what they are, they would have thought a second time before believing any outside suggester, as they did. It is just as disastrous to doubt that same Life Spirit now as it was then, and I trust that before this course is finished, that my students will have learned the utter foolishness of ever again doubting this great Presence, whose Power is so unmistakable, right here and now. But the Lesson had to be learned, and so it is that you and I were plunged, through the act of another, into a world as different as night from day, from the first creation of it.

However, in passing may I say to my students that they may depend upon it that at the right time, and in the right manner, that state of existence will be restored once more. And it may be that a far more radiant state of existence than that was will be manifested. "Eye hath not seen, ear hath not heard, neither HATH IT ENTERED INTO THE HEART OF MAN, THE THINGS THAT THIS MIGHTY LIFE SPIRIT HATH PREPARED FOR THOSE THAT LOVE--OR KNOW HIM--FOR TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM." People sometimes ask me if I believe that we shall know each other in heaven. You will never be in heaven as it is generally understood today, my friend. The heaven that God created is the entire space outside of this earth. The stars are in heaven, and in the sense that God is everywhere, then He is in heaven--but in no other sense. He is not in some place where there is any physical existence of any sort. Neither is He preparing a place for us if by that, we mean any residence for us as we are manifestly here--in the flesh. This physical part of us MUST die, and it is a good thing that it must. God help the human race if they ever were to find eternal life as purely fleshly beings. I for one, would not want to be alive on the earth if that state of affairs ever happened. But it won't. The mighty wisdom of the mighty Life Spirit prohibited that. Moses language was that man was "driven out of the garden, and flaming swords of fire placed there to prevent his return into it." If he were telling the story today, he would say God made an immutable Law that man must die in order to get rid of his body of flesh, in order that he might once more be in a condition and a position to re-enter the Spiritual state of existence. The Bible tells us that flesh and blood cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. For sure they cannot. That which is FLESH IS flesh, and that which is SPIRIT IS spirit, AND THEY CAN NEVER MIX. That is what is meant when we are told that this body is sown a corruptible body and raised a Spiritual body. It is all so simple when the revelation of the Living God shines upon it. We have seen now that God is SPIRIT, and while a physical manifestation was brought about by the unbelief or doubt or sin of our forefathers in the garden, IT IS NEITHER ESSENTIAL NOR DESIRABLE THAT THIS PHYSICAL EXISTENCE CONTINUE. And it WILL NOT continue either after this earth and its inhabitants are once more manifesting on the same plane on which they manifested prior to the fall. What a thought! And how different from what we have been taught about this mighty Life Spirit-this mighty God. What a pity it is that the entire human race is so superstitious. You will remember one of the apostles walking along the road away back yonder, and seeing a sign with wording on it, "TO THE UNKNOWN GOD". He said to them that he saw that in ALL THINGS they were too superstitious. Then he called their attention to the sign and said to them, "HE WHOM YE IGNORANTLY WORSHIP, THE SAME DECLARE I UNTO YOU." And the same identical things exists today. Jesus understood it when he stood on the side of one of the hills he loved so well and, with tears streaming down his face said, "Oh Jerusalem, how oft would I have gathered you, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wing, BUT YE WOULD NOT." And so it is today. For 2,000 years the message, as the Galilean Carpenter came to proclaim it, has fallen upon superstitious ears, made superstitious by their own interpretation of what the Living God should be. Superstition reigned supreme in the hearts of the Christians in

the Carpenter's time--and it reigns supreme today in the hearts of Christians. They must have a God who is in the sky. They must have a God whose Power will be made manifest in the future. They must have a God whose reward is in heaven. NO WONDER THE GALILEAN CARPENTER DIED OF A BROKEN HEART; NO WONDER AT ALL. And I am not ashamed of the fact that as I write this, the eyes are beginning to dim, as into my inmost self steals a feeling of utter peace; a feeling of joy that cannot be explained nor understood; a feeling of power that this world as it is cannot know. And if I may be pardoned for alluding to it in this course of instruction, let me say to you that it is in just such moments as this, when the mighty Life Spirit makes His presence so vividly felt, that He is to me the most precious being in the entire world. It is in just such moments as this that I can command disease and sickness to leave the afflicted bodies, and have it do so. For the "sense veil" seems to be temporarily lifted; and I KNOW, beyond any shadow of doubt, whereof I am speaking when I say to you that the ACTUAL PRESENCE OF THIS LIVING GOD, RIGHT HERE AND NOW, IN US, ALL ABOUT US, IS THE MOST DYNAMIC POWER IN THE UNIVERSE TODAY-BAR NONE. There is no question about its presence, and EVERY STUDENT OF MINE MAY ACTUALLY CONTACT AND KNOW THIS LIVING POWER, IF HE WILL DO AS I TRY TO TELL HIM. Never fear that this mighty dynamic Power cannot be known to you, and never fear that it will fool you. Not a sparrow can fall to the ground without this Power. And are ye not of much more value than many sparrows? I think so. And so it is that the Carpenter and I are Pals, and love each other. And why should I not love him? Was it not he who first preached the message of the ACTUAL LIVING PRESENCE OF THIS MIGHTY GOD POWER? Was it not he who first brought the story to this earth? And was it not the same story, and that story alone, which made it possible for me to know the actual presence, the living, marvelous Presence, of this mighty God we are learning about? None other was qualified to make such a revelation as he was; and had not that revelation been made, I should never have been able to learn the way, and neither would you for that matter; or anyone else. And as I look back this evening over the years, to the time when that boyhood heart of mine was touched by the story of his rejection, I wonder, had I known then the roughness of the trail ahead of me, whether I should attempt to tread it or not. Had I known the sharp, jagged edges against which I would tear myself--had I known the loneliness of the nights spent in wrestling with God-had I known the almost impenetrable blackness which was to confront me for years--had I known all this, I very much question whether or not I should have gone on, or thrown in the towel, and denied the very existence of God at all. You may depend upon one fact, however, and that is this: the man through whom God chooses to make a revelation to this earth, will be a man who is WILLING TO BELIEVE AND TRUST EVEN THOUGH HE GO TO HIS DEATH DOING SO. Through no other sort of a man CAN any revelation from God ever come. History has proved that time and time again. And had it not been for that Carpenter Pal of mine, I should never have been able to have come through at all.

But he charmed me; he drew me; his story rang true; and it made no difference to me if the world doubted him, I believe both him and in the remarkable story he came to tell; and, as is always in the Realm of God, THE BELIEF ITSELF WAS THE ANSWER. I wish I could put that more plainly, but I cannot. It is an immutable Law of the Living God Himself, in fact it is God Himself that, ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH BE IT UNTO YOU, and being absolutely, unalterably immutable in essence, THE BELIEVING PRAYER, OR DESIRE (for prayer is only another name for desire) you may believe me when I say to you, that IT IS UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO DESIRE TO PRAY FOR ANYTHING WITHOUT RECEIVING IT FROM THE LIVING GOD, IF YOU BELIEVE IN HIM. The exercises given to you are to train you to do that very thing. We have been steeped in unbelief and superstition so long that our very nature has become impregnated with it, and in this day and age we cannot mention God without our putting on a long face, or shrinking into the background. God's name ought to be the most talked of thing in the world, but it isn't. Only on Wednesday night and on Sunday is it proper to talk of Him, and then we let one man do all the talking, and pay him for doing it. Now mark me well, please--the only way to get that rotten unbelief and superstition out, is to PRACTICE ACTUAL EXERCISES IN FAITH AND BELIEF. For instance, if I can make you believe that your affirmation concerning the Power of the Living God is true, then step by step, I can make you believe in the ACTUAL PRESENCE OF THE LIVING GOD HIMSELF. You may see now why I am so insistent that you constantly repeat the statements and affirmations. If I can make you believe in the Power of this great Living Spirit, then I can make you believe IN THE GREAT SPIRIT HIMSELF--dont you see? I am doing in these exercises and in this course of study, by scientific means what the religious leaders of the country have vainly attempted to do by just simply telling you, or asking you, to believe. That method is wrong. We have had it preached to us so long now, that a great majority of those preaching it do not believe it themselves. Now if I can, step by step, intelligently show you who and what this wonderful Living God actually is, and if I can, step by step, give you exercises that I myself have actually proved will manifest the actual Presence and Power of this great Living God in your everyday life--then I have accomplished what the church has utterly failed to accomplish. I have brought into being by intelligent interpretation and understanding of facts, as revealed, not only to me but to the entire race, if they chose to believe them, FAITH IN THE LIVING GOD. And the end more than justifies the means. I have made the statement once to you that blind belief is unscientific, and to ask a man to believe something that his intelligence cannot grasp is to ask that man to do the impossible. I speak now as a Psychologist. The trouble with religion today is, that it has taken the plain, unvarnished facts of God as Jesus spoke them and as they exist, and as they have ever existed, and has clothed them in superstition to such an extent that Christ himself or God Himself could never recognize them.

"When the Son of Man cometh--shall he find faith on the earth at all or not?" was asked by one far greater than I am. I leave the answer to you. I have my own private opinion. And so it is that I have come to love this man of Galilee, far better than I love my life. And the very exercises I am prescribing for you, and asking you to follow, are the self-same exercises that have brought to me what little faith in God that I may have. And in the final summing up, had I been able to believe literally the words of this Carpenter friend of mine long ago, I would have done so. In a sort of mental, hazy way I sort of believed that he was the "son of God," but as far as asking him for anything, or as far as knowing him personally, and as far as actually receiving anything from him goes, well, I just couldn't do that. It wasn't in me. I believed that it WAS possible to rely absolutely on this God, but how to do it I knew not. Little did I suspect that this dynamic Power was all around me, a mighty, immutable, unchangeable Law, operating for my benefit, and charged and supercharged with Power that could not be contacted by me. I know it now, however, and am passing the knowledge I have obtained on to you. I shall not hold out to you any false hopes that overnight you will be able to come into full realization of the actual Presence of the Living God, although that is perfectly possible, and had you the faith necessary, you could do that very thing. But the chances are that you will have to grow slowly, as I did. Have you ever seen a beautiful lily blooming on the hillside? Well, one of the Bible writers called attention to that lily, and asked us to consider how it grew. Shall I tell you how it grows? Well, it grows by JUST STAYING THERE AND MAKING NO EFFORT, at least no physical effort to grow. THATS ALL. It is quietly absorbing moisture and food from the earth, and as it absorbs, THE GROWTH TAKES CARE OF ITSELF. IF IT MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO GROW IT WOULD SPOIL ITSELF. So it will be with you. The Truth about the Living God will GRADUALLY unfold itself to you, and when once it unfolds, you will never lose it. And remember this, the more anxious you are to know the Power of this mighty Life Spirit, the faster will it unfold itself to you. Soon you will come to the place when you will not need me nor anyone else to show you the way. IT WILL UNFOLD ITSELF AUTOMATICALLY FROM THE LIVING GOD HIMSELF. Then it will be when you should be perfect master over all your material surroundings, and you will know how to supply your every need, and your progress from then on will be in your own hands. All I can do is to show you the way to begin, and to show you how to actually get into touch with this great Living God of ours. How far you go with Him is in your own hands. I will say this to you here, however, that once you begin to live in the realization of His actual presence, YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE IT. There will be outside dissatisfaction and little petty troubles, etc., but always remember that these things come from the PART OF YOU THAT IS IN "CONSCIOUSNESS." THEY NEVER COME FROM THE LIVING GOD. From HIM can only come those things which are for your eternal benefit. And all that is necessary when trouble seems to rear its head around you, is to keep perfectly still, smile, and talk to the actual Presence of the Living God--NEVER FORGET THAT--it will help you. I have spent so much time on this subject that I deem it unwise to go any further here. So I have decided to talk about the Carpenter of Galilee [over the course of three Lessons]. I suggest that you read and re-read this Lesson. The written word in itself has no power; it is the Truth that the

written words convey. So take these great Truths as revealed in this Lesson, and think upon them. You will realize that throughout this entire course of instruction I can only just touch the outstanding facts. A book could be written on any of these Lessons, but what I want to do is not to confuse you, but just show you the facts of the actual presence of the Living God, all about you, and in you, and leave the arguing and theosophizing to those who love to do it. Personally, I am too interested in this actual Living Presence to argue about it. I KNOW IT IS THERE. If you are obeying my instructions, you are now telling this mighty Life Spirit what it is that you need most in your own life. Until you receive the next Lesson, I want you, in your quiet hour, not to talk to this Living Presence any more for one week. I want you to keep very still--eyes closed, and LISTEN TO WHAT HE HAS TO SAY TO YOU. He doesnt really need you to tell Him what you need, but YOU NEED THE EXERCISES TO TRAIN YOU IN THE ACTUAL ACCEPTANCE FROM HIM OF THE THINGS YOU NEED. Remember here, that for thousands of years the human race has been filled with one idea, and that idea is in effect, that man is a "guilty, lost, hell-deserving sinner" instead of God's very highest creation. That idea has so ingrained itself into the entire race that it cannot be thown overboard over night. It will take time. So try to be reasonable and do as I ask you to, and I will lead you into a blessed life experience. As we progress I will show you how to take these very things that you NEED from the mighty Life Spirit. But for the present, just simply obey me. I know the way and will lead you aright. As you listen to what this great Presence has to say to you in the stillness, you will find your thoughts being definitely guided along some one line. Do not try to force these thoughts, but just keep quiet--as still as a mouse, so to speak. For instance, if it is a change in business conditions that you need, you will find some one line of thought manifesting itself in connection with that change. NO ONE will know what it is but you. YOU WILL KNOW THAT THIS STILL, SMALL VOICE IS THE VOICE OF THE LIVING GOD TALKING DIRECTLY TO YOU. And no matter what that thought may be, when it is clear to you beyond any possibility of doubt-YOU OBEY IT. NEVER, under any circumstances, EVER DISOBEY A "LEAD" COMING TO YOU FROM THE QUIETNESS; FOR THAT LEAD IS COMING FROM THE LIVING GOD. However, as you progress you will learn the wisdom of automatically obeying any and all such "leads," and will be only too glad to obey them. And so I leave you here until next week when we shall go into the actual life of this Galilean Carpenter, and learn some mighty important and fascinating facts about him. ***** Lesson VII JESUS--WHO HE WAS AND WHAT HE CAME TO DO (continued)

Robinson The Ten Lessons The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho July 9, 1930 I promised you last week that this week we would continue the study of the Galilean Carpenter, and try to find out just who and what He actually was. Here again we find a mighty scriptural relation utterly stripped of its real meaning through superstition and human interpretations that have been tacked on to it. Half the present day religious world believes that he was the 'Son of God' and the other half believes he wasn't. And if I were to ask these warring factions to PROVE their contentions, none of them could do it. They are arguing, therefore, in a circle and will go round and round until they get tired and find some new bone of contention, or until someone shows them some actual FACT about what they are arguing. You know, we humans are very much like a bunch of sheep. We will follow the leader, even though he leads us all over a cliff. And so in this 'religious warfare' which is being waged today between those who believe that Jesus was the Son of God and those who do NOT so believe; the poor outsider, trying to find the real truth, follows either one side or the other in their (to me) laughable and foolish arguments. Before they attempt to argue along these lines, either side or both sides, should give to the world some concrete evidence that they know anything at all of what they are battling over. But, for now, let's get down to what this Galilean Carpenter WAS, and was NOT. I shall not enter into a discussion with anyone as to whether he had a supernatural conception or not. That fact makes no difference. It wasn't his birth which was so important; it was the fact that he arose from the dead that IS important. It is reasonable to believe, however, that the mighty LIFE SPIRIT who formed the human race in the first place, had the authority, should He see fit to do so, to break or violate any law that He had made. Whether this great Life Spirit did or did not so violate His own law, we shall not state here. Outside of the birth of this Carpenter, however, there is no authentic record of His ever having done so. Whether He did so in the case of Jesus, we shall see as we progress. One thing is certain, and that one thing is all that matters, and that one thing is this: JESUS HAD A PERFECTLY NATURAL PHYSICAL BIRTH, JUST AS YOU AND I HAD. No one will deny that. Physically, he came into the world in exactly the SAME MANNER as you and I did. There can be no question on that point either--the record is clear. He was fed as a baby in exactly the same manner as you

and I were fed, and he went through all the physical functions of life, exactly as we did. As a boy he was reared and he grew up, exactly as we did. He ran away from home, was lost, and, in general, was just an average normal human being, just like my little son, Alfred. (Probably he was just as much trouble, too.) I think all our warring Christian friends will grant me these facts. Someone trying to trip me, is bound to bring up the point of his running away from his parents and going to the temple, and when chided for it, his reply was that he 'must be about his father's business.' I shall be told that this early in life, at about twelve years of age, he himself knew that he had a mission to accomplish in this world. SURELY HE DID, AND SO HAS EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING AT ALL OUTSTANDING ALONG RELIGIOUS LINES--KNOWN THIS SAME THING. At the age of three I knew that I had a mission to perform, and I do not claim to be God or to have had any miraculous conception either. Now follow me, please. I will concede that HE knew, deep down in his own heart, that he had a vital world message to deliver. That, I have already explained. BUT I WILL NOT CONCEDE THAT ANOTHER LIVING SOUL ON EARTH, WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF HIS MOTHER, KNEW IT UNTIL THIRTY YEARS LATER WHEN HE STARTLED THE WORLD WITH HIS TEACHINGS. For thirty years he had lived as a boy, and as a young man, among hundreds of other boys and young men, and up to the time he began his ministry, NOT A LIVING SOUL SUSPECTED THAT HE EVER WOULD MAKE THE CLAIM TO BE GOD, OR TO HAVE A MESSAGE OF WORLD IMPORTANCE. I mention this point to show that he lived and was looked upon as a MAN, and NOT AS A GOD. Furthermore, I do not concede that he ever did claim to be God Himself. He claimed on one occasion that 'I and the Father are one,' and YOU AND I CAN CLAIM THE VERY SELF SAME THING WHEN WE UNDERSTAND WHO AND WHAT WE REALLY ARE, AND WHEN WE HAVE GRASPED THE SECRET OF COMMUNION WITH THE LIVING GOD. Please remember that you and I, in essence or in the first, and incidentally, the ONLY creation of man there ever was, were SPIRIT or SPIRITUAL BEINGS. According to Moses, there was breathed into our nostrils BY GOD HIMSELF--HIS VERY OWN LIFE. It is true that we are now, through the sin and disobedience or doubt of our foreparents, manifesting as physical beings, BUT THAT FACT DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT OF WHO AND WHAT MAN ACTUALLY IS. And I say to you that man, as first created, was essentially THE SAME AS GOD.

And I will go one step further with you and say to you that RIGHT HERE AND NOW, MAN IS STILL ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING AS GOD. True, the blight of a physical existence is upon him, BUT that blight is ONLY A TEMPORAL THING, AND UNDER THAT BLIGHT, AND BEFORE THE BLIGHT EVER WAS, MAN WAS AND IS, ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING AS GOD. Now let some of the warring theologists try to get around that fact. I have taken their own Bible for it, too. What was very important in the ministry of this Carpenter was the fact that on one occasion he said, 'I CAN OF MY OWN SELF DO NOTHING' and if that doesn't prove that he was a human being just like you and me, then I do not know what it does prove. Furthermore, after years of the very closest scrutiny of the scriptures, I AM UNABLE TO FIND A SINGLE INSTANCE WHERE HE CLAIMED TO HAVE ANY POWER OF ANY KIND THAT DID NOT COME FROM THE GREAT LIFE SPIRIT THAT CREATED BOTH HIM AND THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, INCLUDING YOU AND ME. On the other hand, I find him asking specifically NOT to be worshipped as God. I find him giving all credit for anything he ever did TO THE SAME MIGHTY LIFE SPIRIT I AM HERE TEACHING YOU ABOUT. Now, we have thus far a picture of a man's being born in a manger, which was nothing unusual in those days, and living a perfectly normal life as hundreds of others were living it, until he was about thirty years of age. Nothing mysterious or divine about that, is there? We are told that from his early childhood he manifested a great desire to learn the Old Testament, for that was the only Bible they had in those days; and we are told he loved to go amongst those who were teachers of it, AND PUT AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT INTERPRETATION UPON IT. This he did and on many occasions he confounded their teachings by giving them the TRUE interpretation of these same scriptures. Nothing remarkable about that either, is there? Every religious leader of importance since that time has done THE SAME IDENTICAL THING. And, I imagine, it is still being done today. It was perfectly natural for this young man to manifest a pronounced interest in the scriptures, in view of the fact that he was impressed to the very core of him with the belief that he had come to proclaim to the world a mighty liberating message, and to restore it to a vital living communion with a vital living God. Now let me say at this point that if this Carpenter ever taught anything at all, he taught the restoration of the human race--not to himself--BUT TO THE LIVING GOD IN THAT VERY SAME DAY AND AGE IN WHICH HE LIVED. At no time in the three years of his teaching did he ever request any worship or attention from anyone. On the contrary, he did away from the crowds, and when he

worked a so-called miracle, he immediately requested the one healed to tell no one about it. SO LITTLE DID HE THINK OF THIS FLESHLY BODY THAT HE DID NOT WANT THE HEALING OF THE BODY TO BE GIVEN MORE CONSIDERATION THAN THE REAL TRUTH HE CAME TO TEACH, WHICH TRUTH WAS NOT THE SALVATION NOR RESURRECTION OF THE PHYSICAL BODY AT ALL. So afraid was he that his message would be interpreted as applying to the body that, I repeat, he was very specific in asking those he healed to tell no one. He even went so far as to say on one occaion, "let the dead bury their dead," and this when talking about a dead human body. And yet some would have us believe that the physical part of man is all that matters. His message was a message of LIFE, and LIFE IS LIFE AND NOT DEATH IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM. Listen to him: "I AM COME THAT YE MIGHT HAVE LIFE" and, come from the mighty Life Spirit we are talking about, don't you see how this message can have but only one meaning? And again: "YE WILL NOT COME UNTO ME THAT YE MIGHT HAVE LIFE." On one occasion he hurled a withering denunciation at the heads of the religious leaders of his day, and I want you to listen to it. Here it is: "Ye search the Scriptures because YE THINK THAT IN THEM ye shall have life, but YE WILL NOT COME TO ME TO GET IT." In other words, this is what he said to them: "You read the Bible because you think that by reading IT you shall have LIFE. And it is a fact that this book testifies ABOUT ME, BUT YE WILL NOT COME UNTO ME THAT YE MIGHT HAVE LIFE." Do you catch the remarkable significance of that statement? Then apply it to present day religious conditions. Now where are we? We have found to date that, leaving out of the question the supernatural birth of this Carpenter of Galilee, we have an average, normal young man, and a carpenter, just like hundreds of other carpenters in that day and age, but with a decidedly religious tendency. Now please remember that up to this point no statement had ever been made by him that he was God or any other statement anywhere near like it. A little later, however, he began his ministry, which was NOT A MINISTRY ABOUT HIMSELF, but a ministry ABOUT THE LIVING GOD. And it is perfectly easy for me to understand why the people of that day refused to accept either him or his teachings. THEY HAD KNOWN HIM ALL HIS LIFE, and knowing him all his life, when he began to teach that he had COME FROM (not was) GOD, TO SHOW MAN HOW TO BE RESTORED TO HIS FORMER SPIRITUAL CONDITION, and to do many miraculous things, the people said: "Well, but isn't this Joseph the carpenter's son, whom we have always known? How is it that HE claims to know God?" You would have done the same thing had you been there at that time. And it is all perfectly clear

and logical to me that they should so reason, WHEN ONE CONSIDERS THE IDEA OF GOD THAT THEY HAD. They could not conceive of God's being close to them although invisible. They had other ideas of what He should be, and so they rejected the entire message as Jesus gave it to them. This I say, when considered in the light of WHAT THEY THOUGHT GOD SHOULD BE, OR OUGHT TO BE, was perfectly natural. They had their own ideas of God, and they would accept no other even though the preaching of the new God was accompanied by miracles never seen before. If they needed proof of the living, actual, reality of the great Life Spirit Jesus told them about, he gave them lots of it. But still they would not believe BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT SEE THIS GOD, AND BECAUSE HE DID NOT MEET THEIR IDEA OF WHAT HE SHOULD BE. Now try to get that, please. It is very important. They will admit to you that their religion is utterly powerless, and yet when the real Truth of God is presented to them, they will deny it, and will call down heaven's curses upon the man who endeavors to lead them into the same Truths that Jesus taught. For instance, suppose that I go to a minister today and say to him, "My little Alfred is sick. I want you to come over and heal him as Jesus did." Would he come, or would he immediately look me over with a suspicious eye, wondering somewhat about my mental condition? You know the answer. And yet--and yet--did not this carpenter say, "THE THINGS THAT I DO SHALL YE DO ALSO," and many other statements of similar import? Listen to me, my friend. Either this carpenter of Galilee knew whereof he spoke, or he didn't. And if he did, then my contention--the Truth of his teachings--is correct. And if he did not, then he forfeited any claim he might have made to his knowledge of the mighty Power of God. That, I will not admit. NO, MY FRIEND, THE MARVELOUS MESSAGE OF THIS CARPENTER HAS BEEN MISSED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Only in the last few years has the real light begun to break. BUT IT IS BREAKING, make no mistake about that, AND IT IS BREAKING THROUGH THOSE WHO HAVE EARNESTLY SOUGHT THE TRUTH AS IT EXISTS, AND IN MOST CASES, THOSE THROUGH WHOM THIS MIGHTY TRUTH IS BREAKING, HAVE NO CONNECTION WITH OUR PRESENT RELIGIOUS SYSTEM AT ALL. And another thing, those who make no profession of religion at all, ARE THE VERY ONES WHO ARE ACCEPTING THE TRUTH AS JESUS TAUGHT IT, AND ARE RECEIVING THE RESULTS EXACTLY AS JESUS SAID THEY SHOULD.

The marvelous revelations of the Living God ARE NOT COMING TO THIS EARTH THROUGH THE MINISTERS NOR THROUGH THE CHURCHES. THEY ARE COMING THROUGH THE SCIENTISTS AND THROUGH THE PSYCHOLOGISTS. And if you doubt that, study the New Psychology. You do not have to take my word for it. Quite recently I read in one of the Portland, Oregon, newspapers a statement credited to one of the leading ministers of that city. It was stated from the pulpit, I believe, and in effect it was as follows: "The churches as we have them today are EXACTLY AS WE WANT THEM. WE HAVE BUILT THEM AS THEY ARE, AND PAID FOR THEM, AND WE WELCOME NO CHANGE, NO MATTER WHAT NEW TRUTHS ARE DISCOVERED. I will admit that there is no question about the Psychologists and followers of the new thought being far closer to the truth than we are, BUT THE CHURCH SYSTEM AS WE HAVE IT IS OURS, AND WE WILL NOT HAVE IT CHANGED." It is easy to see why this brother is preaching, isn't it? This world is on the verge of one of the most stupendous awakenings it has ever seen or experienced--mark my words. This new dynamic force in the world, which has been called by many different names, IS AT LAST COMING INTO ITS OWN, AND MEN AND WOMEN BY THE THOUSANDS WILL UTTERLY CAST OFF THE OLD SUPERSTITIONS, AND WHEN THEY DO, THEY WILL FIND THE LIVING GOD, BUT NOT UNTIL THEN. I believe that it is possible right here and now TO DUPLICATE EVERY WORK THAT CHRIST EVER DID, EVEN TO RAISING THE DEAD, WERE THAT NECESSARY, if the same simple faith that the Carpenter had, were used today. By the thousands, students of the New Psychology are curing functional and organic diseases that have been pronounced utterly incurable. The New Psychology is doing this by calling upon the power of the subconscious or universal mind. Pretty soon they will awaken to the fact that this power is NOTHING MORE NOR LESS THAN THE LIVING POWER OF THE MIGHTY GOD, and when they realize THAT, and call it by its proper name, they will be giving credit where it belongs. If this mighty Power is so unchangeable that it is effective NO MATTER WHAT NAME YOU CALL IT, just so long as the Law governing it is complied with, WHAT MORE PROOF OF ITS EXISTENCE IS NECESSARY? I want you to spend this week in quietly listening to the Living God's still, small voice, and every other night you may repeat this statement: "I AM FEELING THE PRESENCE OF THE LIVING GOD." Do not forget to obey INSTANTLY the leads

coming to you from this Life Spirit, and do not forget either, to be instant and constant in your silent hour. Literally obey me in my requests about this quiet period, for in quietness lies your strength. Just be intense in your affirmations, and do them faithfully. The Life Spirit is immutable Law: IT NEVER WILL FOOL YOU. Many of you are probably very anxious to learn how to actually take from this great Spirit the things you need, while others have learned the lesson already, by obeying the still, small voice. To [the former] all I say is to please be patient till the last Lesson. It will all be made plain to you. Let your main line of thought be these affirmations--day and night. Do not try to force anything. You cannot do it. The Law of God works slowly, but awfully surely. Remember the lesson of the lily, and remember once more that you are now dealing with the most DYNAMIC POWER IN THE UNIVERSE. EVERY PROMISE OF THE LIVING GOD MUST STAND. And it does. So, quietly, happily, hold in your consciousness the thing you most desire, and continue to listen to the great LIFE SPIRIT. ***** Lesson VIII JESUS--WHO HE WAS AND WHAT HE CAME TO DO (continued) Frank B. Many people ask me why I do not allude to him as Jesus instead of the Carpenter. Well, I'll tell you why. There has been so much superstition and misrepresentation around that name Jesus, and while to me it is the sweetest name on earth, to my students it may savor too much of the religious, and I do not want to be classed as a religious man. There are thousands of people named Jesus in the Spanish speaking countries, and as far as he himself went, his name might as well have been George or Paul or William, as far as that goes.

The name itself means nothing, my friend--it is the man who counted. And then again, the use of the word carpenter brings out the human side of this man. And if he was anything at all, he was a human being. WAS he also God? Form your own opinion when you have finished the course, although the last Lesson gave you the answer to that. I will just say this much here, however. If he were God, then JUST AS MUCH AS HE WAS GOD WAS HE A MAN ALSO. At this point I want to say to you, as I have hinted earlier in the course, that the answer to prayer or desire is an absolutely immutable Law. Furthermore, let me say to you that the answers ALWAYS COME IMMUTABLY AND SCIENTIFICALLY. Any other explanation of the answers to prayer is false. Many Psychologists, alluding to this great Power as mind, advocate the use of the mind by making mental pictures of the things you desire. They claim that this will help these needed things to manifest themselves. Well, dealing in the term mind, I am not surprised that they have to resort to mental picture-making in order to help the desire manifest itself. The Living God, however, needs no assistance from any other source than Himself, and I do not advocate the making of any mental pictures at all. In fact, I counsel my students emphatically not to attempt it. This great immutable God of ours works only by His own fixed and immutable Laws established ages ago. He very seldom changes them. In the case of the birth of Christ He may have done so. But I think you will agree with me that it is immaterial whether He did or not. THE VITAL FACT INVOLVED IS THE FACT THAT THIS CARPENTER WAS BORN OR MANIFESTED ON THIS EARTH TO DEMONSTRATE THE FACT THAT THE ENTIRE RESULTS OF ADAM'S SIN MIGHT BE COMPLETELY WIPED OUT, AND HE DEMONSTRATED THIS BY RAISING THE DEAD--SOMETHING WHICH HAD NEVER BEFORE BEEN DONE BY ANYONE, AND SOMETHING WHICH HAS NEVER SINCE BEEN DONE BY ANYONE. There is no authentic record anywhere of anyone's ever having raised a dead man outside of this Galilean Carpenter. THERE WILL BE SUCH RECORDS, HOWEVER, IN THE NEAR FUTURE. The vital fact about the whole message he preached was the fact THAT THE SPIRITUAL EYE OF MAN WHICH WAS CLOSED WHEN THE PHYSICAL EYE WAS OPENED, MIGHT BE AND SHOULD BE OPENED AGAIN. HE CAME TO DEMONSTRATE THE FACT THAT THIS PHYSICAL EXISTENCE AND DEATH WAS NOT A PERMANENT AFFAIR, BUT ONLY TEMPORARY. AND JUST AS SURE AS YOU ARE ALIVE, THIS SAME POWER THAT THIS CARPENTER MANIFESTED 2,000 YEARS AGO, CAN AND WILL BE MANIFESTED BY THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE JUST AS SOON AS THEY LEARN THE LAW OF THE LIVING GOD AS THE CARPENTER KNEW IT. AND THAT LAW IS--THE BELIEF AS OUR

FOREFATHERS HAD IT BEFORE THEY LISTENED TO SOMEONE WHO SUGGESTED THAT WHAT GOD SAID WAS NOT SO. And you and I cannot put any limitation on the Power of the Living God any more than Jesus did, AND YOU MUST NOT SAY TO ME THAT THERE IS ANYTHING IMPOSSIBLE RIGHT HERE AND NOW AS FAR AS THE LIVING GOD IS CONCERNED. I KNOW BETTER. I shall ask you to pardon me for alluding to a personal matter, and I only mention it to prove the Truth of the above statement. The incident can be verified by Mrs. Ellsworth, the proprietor of the hotel, or her sister who was living with her at the time. I was in the little town of Gervais, Oregon, about 18 months ago on business. While there I stayed at the Depot Hotel, conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth. One morning early I was awakened by the loud barking of a dog, and the terrified cheeps of something, I knew not what. On looking out of my window I saw on the lawn across the street a little mud-hen, lying on its side, with a fox terrier standing over it and attacking it. A feeling of intense pity for the little mud-hen swept over me, and hastily dressing, I went over to the lawn and drove the dog away. A pool of blood lay on the grass, and I knew the little creature was injured. On examining it I discovered that it had a broken leg which was hanging limp and I could feel the broken bone. As I held the helpless little thing, coupled with my intense feeling of pity was an INTENSE DESIRE to heal that broken leg. I have already alluded to moments which occur in my life in which the Power of the Living God makes itself known in an unmistakable manner, and as I carried the little creature into the hotel, there stole over me a sweet peace, coupled with the assurance that God Himself could heal that broken limb. So, knowing that He WOULD heal it, I thanked Him FOR HAVING DONE SO. Taking the hen into the hotel kitchen, I showed it to Mrs. Ellsworth and her sister, who by the way, had seen it all from their own window, and I asked them if I might make a nest for it in the barn. They granted me this permission and I made the nest, put the little thing into it and returned to the kitchen with the remark that in a few moments it would be all right again. Both of these ladies saw the broken limb, and what is more wonderful, within a few minutes, THEY BOTH SAW THE MUD-HEN WALK OUT OF THE BARN PERFECTLY WHOLE, and without the slightest signs of the accident evident. I stayed at the hotel probably two weeks after that, and from that day to this have not seen them since. Here was a case where an INTENSE DESIRE TO HELP, COUPLED WITH THE FAITH NECESSARY TO BRING THE ANSWER,

PERFORMED WHAT WOULD PROBABLY BE TERMED "A MIRACLE." But THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS MIRACLES WITH GOD. When Christ cursed the fig tree, on passing the next day, the disciples called his attention to the fact that it had withered. The text states that a miracle had been wrought. NO SUCH A THING. THE MIRACLE WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD JESUS ORDERED THE TREE TO WITHER AND IT HAD NOT DONE SO. That is where the miracle would have been. But let me say to my students that such happenings as this, or similar ones, are DAILY BEING MANIFESTED by Psychologists and Psychotherapists the wide world over. Remember please, that the science of the New Psychology is only yet very young, and still, such manifestations as this and far greater ones in the healing of so-called incurable diseases are happening. THERE IS NO SUCH A THING AS AN INCURABLE DISEASE WHERE THE LIVING GOD IS--THERE CANNOT BE. Now what is the answer? Here it is: The New Psychology has found something of the Power of the Living God, AND HAS NOT KNOWN THIS POWER AS SUCH. It has applied the immutable Law of the Living God, gotten the results, AND CALLED THE POWER MANIFESTED BY SOME OTHER NAME, NOT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT THE POWER WAS. It makes no difference, however, just what this Power may be called--IT IS THERE. Personally, I choose to call a spade a spade, and call the mighty, wonder-working Power by its proper name--THE LIVING GOD. Jesus knew exactly how to call it into operation. And the means by which he did so was to RECOGNIZE ITS PRESENCE AND ITS LIMITLESS ABILITY TO DO WHATEVER WAS NECESSARY TO BE DONE. I shall ask you to tarry here with me a little while, and we shall review the raising of Lazarus from the dead. And let me repeat to you that I believe it to be entirely possible FOR YOU OR ME TO REPEAT THIS SEEMING MIRACLE, AND I BELIEVE WE WILL BE ABLE TO REPEAT SUCH MIRACLES AS THIS ONE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE--IN THE VERY MOMENT THAT WE BELIEVE WE ARE ABLE TO DO IT. THE LIVING GOD NEVER CHANGES AND IF IT WERE A FACT THAT HIS POWER RAISED LAZARUS 2,000 YEARS AGO, I believe that THE SAME POWER CAN RAISE JIM OR JACK, RIGHT HERE AND NOW. Now follow me closely, please, step by step, and we shall see just exactly how the Carpenter of Galilee raised Lazarus. Following the record as John gives it to us, we find that a man called Lazarus died. They sent for this famous Carpenter, presumably because they believed that he could raise the dead; they HAD FAITH HE COULD OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE SENT FOR HIM.

The first thing worthy of note is that when the Carpenter heard the news, HE ABODE WHERE HE WAS FOR TWO DAYS. One would think that this was not very considerate of him, but it is exactly what he did, and I believe I have an idea as to just why he did it. But he finally went to the house, and was informed by the weeping sister that IF HE HAD BEEN THERE, Lazarus WOULD NOT HAVE DIED. And the record reads: "HE GROANED within himself"--or to be exact, "in the spirit." NO WONDER HE GROANED. Here he was, preaching the LIVING Power of the LIVING GOD, and not enough faith manifested on the part of the religious relatives of the dead man to do a single solitary thing for him. NO WONDER, I REPEAT, THAT HE GROANED. Then he asked them where the dead man was. Did it ever occur to you that had this man called Jesus, the Carpenter man, been divine, as he is supposed to have been, that he would automatically know just where the dead man was? But he didn't. He had to be shown. We are told here that some of the Jews that were in the crowd wanted to know if this MAN--not this God--mark you well, could not have caused that Lazarus had not died. And at that the Carpenter groaned again. And it seems to me that I know now why he groaned this second time also. But we shall pass over that. I said a little while ago that BELIEF ITSELF WAS THE ANSWER TO THE PETITION. HAD JESUS, AT THIS POINT, HAD ANY DOUBTS AT ALL AS TO HIS ABILITY TO CALL A DEAD MAN BACK TO LIFE, you can safely depend upon it that Lazarus would NOT have been raised. But he had NO DOUBTS at all. He had the courage of his convictions. He depended utterly on the Power of the Living God--and the same immutable Law which did not fool the geese, the same immutable Law which did not fool the robins, and the same immutable Law which does not fool the Idaho farmer, DID NOT FOOL JESUS--AND LAZARUS WAS RAISED. Now let me take another example of the same Power, only this time from an entirely different angle. The man in this case was alive, but seriously deformed. He had a withered hand. This man, being alive, they brought to the Carpenter, who, after looking him over, asked him a question. Just one question--and, in fact, the only question he did ask him was: "WILL YOU BE MADE WHOLE?" Just as if there was any question about that. But there was a very big question involved. The question so pertinent here was whether or not the man WANTED to be made whole. Was there a DESIRE on the part of the afflicted to be made whole? And had there been no DESIRE to be made whole, then under no circumstances could Jesus ever have healed him. This remarkable statement is proven, as the record tells us that there were cities IN WHICH JESUS HIMSELF COULD NOT HEAL. Why? Was his power or the Power of the Life Spirit on the wane? No, not that. The reason as given by the record, is that it was BECAUSE OF THEIR UNBELIEF.

And oh, WHAT A SUPERMAN THING IT IS GOING TO BE, TO DYNAMITE THROUGH THE UNBELIEF OF THIS PRESENT DAY AND AGE! That, by the way, is always the reason for not obtaining anything, or the failure to accept anything from the Living God--UNBELIEF. It all goes directly back to the first creation and IT'S unbelief. This man who had the withered hand, however, stated that he was willing to be made whole, and now I want you to pay special attention to the manner in which the Carpenter healed him, or rather, in the manner in WHICH [THE MAN] HEALED HIMSELF, for that is exactly what he did. You will note that after the question as to whether he wanted to be healed or not, JESUS DID NOT LAY A FINGER ON THAT MAN. HE TOLD THAT MAN HIMSELF TO DO SOMETHING THAT HE THOUGHT HE HAD BEEN UNABLE TO DO FROM BIRTH. "Stretch forth your hand," said the Carpenter, and in asking him to do that, I repeat, he asked him to do that which he had come to the Carpenter, for HIM to do. Now what happened? The man made AN ATTEMPT TO DO THE THING HE WAS ASKED TO DO, AND WITH THE ATTEMPT CAME THE CURE. He stretched forth his hand, and it was immediately restored as the other one. There is the secret of all healing. That one instance proved the absolute Power of the mighty Life Spirit to do WHATSOEVER THE ONE DESIRING IT WANTED. If this man Jesus ever used any supernatural power, that YOU AND I MAY NOT USE, then I am utterly unable to find any record of it in the entire canon of the scriptures. But he did not. All he ever did was to try to "put across" the message that THE POWER OF THE LIVING GOD IS AT THE DISPOSAL OF THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE, and that ACCORDING TO THEIR FAITH IT SHOULD BE DONE UNTO THEM. And in preaching THAT message, HE PROVED THE TRUTH OF IT BY ACTUAL DEMONSTRATIONS. At no time in his entire career did he ever claim to be possessed of any power THAT YOU AND I CANNOT HAVE. Oh, that I might only be able to drive this mighty Truth home to my students! They will slowly grasp it, because it is the TRUTH, but what a world of Power is going to waste because this doctrine of the EVER-PRESENT POWER OF THE MIGHTY, IMMUTABLE, LIVING GOD HAS NOT BEEN PREACHED AS JESUS PREACHED IT. One of the things that used to puzzle me in past years, and that still puzzles hundreds of thousands of honest inquiring souls, is that word "believe." I have explained that if you believe on me, you do not believe on my physical body, because you have never seen that, and you cannot believe on or in THAT. But if you believe on me, then you can only believe WHAT I SAY.

And you can believe with your heart that Jesus was the son of the Living God for a thousand years if you want to, and such a belief as that will never get you one single solitary thing from this great Life Spirit. That sort of a belief is not a belief at all IN THIS GREAT CARPENTER OF GALILEE. It is only a belief ABOUT HIM, that's all. And that sort of a belief can never get you anywhere. And if you ever come to know this mighty Life Spirit I am teaching you about, you will go farther than just to believe that He was the son of God--depend upon that. Millions believe that today, but the same millions are utterly impotent when it comes to manifesting that belief, or to giving some concrete evidence that they know the first thing about Him. It has been quite a while since that Galilean Carpenter was here on the earth, but the spoken words of very few men have endured as his words have. That is because they were living, vital Truth, and "Truth crushed to earth shall rise again." Two thousand years of false teaching and mysticism has only buried the Truth temporarily for that length of time, but just as sure as you are studying these lessons, THESE SAME TRUTHS, staggering as they may seem, ARE RAISING THEIR HEADS AND COMING TO LIGHT AGAIN. May the Living God hasten the day when the last iota of superstition surrounding His name shall once and for all time be banished, so that we may see and know Him as He actually is. You have been spending your silent hour for the past week in listening to what the Living God has to say to you, and waiting for Him to speak to you. Now, for the next week, use this affirmation of Truth, please: "I BELIEVE IN THE LIVING GOD--I BELIEVE IN THE LIVING GOD." Let this thought, day and night, be the one predominating thought that you have. REPEAT IT--REPEAT IT--REPEAT IT, and as you repeat it, realize that it is rapidly becoming an absolute fact. This week we are to look into the subject of healing. The misnomer "divine" is usually attached to any system of healing that does not use pills, powders, drugs, or knives. That the term is a misnomer, every student of this course will by this time be able to see. You will notice that the word "divine" has been very seldom used in these Lessons. It is very misleading and I have refrained from using it. To allude to anything or anyone as being divine is to attribute to it or to him some connection with the "mysterious" God. We have seen, however, that there is nothing mysterious about God at all. We have seen that He operates only through fixed and immutable Laws which are not subject to change. And insofar as the term divine is applied to healing that takes place without the use of drugs, pills, powders, etc., the term is erroneous. Let me say at the beginning of this Lesson that ALL healing comes from the Living God. Whether pills, powders, capsules, or hypodermic injections are used or not, ALL HEALING COMES FROM THE LIVING GOD. In the case of sicknesses which are treated by the pill and powder method, God does the healing IN SPITE OF these things, and not because they have helped Him in the slightest degree. There are a good many different sides to the subject of healing, and it shall be my policy to try to be as reasonable as I can throughout the entire discussion. For nearly twenty years I was engaged in the retail drug business, and still hold Registered Pharmacist's certificates and licenses in several states. So, in speaking of the action of drugs I may be presumed to speak authoritatively. I must state here, however, that drugs do not, and indeed cannot, cure anything. There are a few drugs which will poison a person, and many that will not, but will if not taken in very small doses. If they are beneficial in small doses, why not prescribe them in doses as large as the average meal? Did it ever occur to you that it is rather curious just why drugs are given in grains instead of in larger doses? The fact of the matter is that if larger doses than grains were given, the entire system would revolt against their use, and they would either kill the person taking them or they would be vomited out of the stomach. The system will stand just so much dosing and doping--and no more. What an absurdity it is to think for one moment that these vegetable and coal tar products can be of the slightest assistance in the healing of such a marvelous mechanism as the human body! You have NO RIGHT to put into your system aspirin, or any drug, with the expectation that it will cure anything. It is an utter impossibility for drugs to cure anything. The personality of the physician, coupled with the use of medicine as a suggestive agent, is what does the curing--not the drugs themselves.

One of the reasons for the continued drug medications so prevalent today is the fact that the manufacturing and wholesale drug houses have millions of dollars invested in their respective businesses. Many of them employ a staff of experts whose business it is to think up or discover some new remedy, thereby filling the coffers of their own pockets and making their employers business successful. The next plan resorted to is the circularization of the medical fraternity by these wholesale and manufacturing houses, of free samples of their nostrums, etc. If the story, as told by the wholesale house appeals to the doctors, as to just what this or that specific will do, then the doctor prescribes and the patient pays for it. If every physician was required to make up or prescribe his own medicine without the help of any manufacturing pharmaceutical house, there would be a sorry crowd of doctors, Im thinking. Today, however, we have one continual round robin of therapeutical agents, remedies, salves, injections, serums, etc., all of which are tried on the ailing patient, and all of which he pays for--even the experimentation. If beneficial results seem to be noticed, then it is a "fine preparation"--but the patient takes all the chances. And so it goes along--if this doesn't work, try that--maybe that will. When I think of the thousands of good American folk who are dosing their systems with aspirin in order to cure their headaches, it oft-times makes me wonder just what part of the head aches--the inside or the outside. Knowing the drug business as I do, and knowing some little about Psychology, I repeat my former statement that DRUGS CANNOT CURE ANYTHING. Some of the foremost physicians in the world admit this. It is passing strange how the whole system revolts at the taste of most of the dope put into it these days. And that fact alone should be a warning to the patient that the system neither needs nor wants the terrible concoctions forced into it. And so the fact remains that drug dosage, in order to cure disease, is utterly useless. But as long as people want them and insist on taking them, then the drug stores and doctor shop will flourish and prosper. I think it might be a good idea, however, for every prescription to be written in English instead of Latin, for this would give the patient a chance to use his own discretion as to whether he were receiving intelligent treatment or not. As it is, a druggist is forbidden even to tell a patient what is in the prescription, and if you do not believe that, try to find out some day. The patient pays his good money for medical advice and medicine, and I believe he is at least entitled to know just what he is being given, and why he is being given it. Let us remember here that the elaborate system of medicine as we have it today has not sprung into existence over night. It is a result of the times in which we live. So accustomed are people to running to doctors at the first sign of illness, that any other teaching seems strange to them. But people by the thousands are turning their

attention to the great Life Spirit, and are obtaining the cures they seek, and this without any aid from pills and powders and knives. So much for drug medication. Now, let us see what this mighty Living God has to say about it. When the Galilean Carpenter was upon the earth, we read that at even, when the sun was setting, that they brought to him all manner of sicknesses--AND HE HEALED THEM. Not in just one isolated case here and there, but he healed them all. No matter from what disease they were suffering, they all met the same result--HEALING. It is rather a significant fact, that as soon as a person actually connects with the Truth as it exists in the mighty Living God, about the first thing to follow, if such a one be ill, is healing of the body. But at this point we must not forget the relation the body bears to the REAL self. We must never forget that this body of ours is but a temporary abiding place at best, and that when the spirit, at bodily death, leaves this body, then it is put into the ground, and that is the end of it. But THAT IS NOT THE END OF YOU, FOR YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY BY ANY MANNER OF MEANS. YOU ARE SPIRIT, AS THE MIGHTY LIVING GOD IS SPIRIT, AND HAD THERE BEEN NO DISOBEDIENCE AWAY BACK YONDER, YOU WOULD HAVE NO BODY AT ALL. Consequently, when the old body dies, the real YOU, separated from this body, lives on and on and on. If anyone ever tells you that as a body you will never die, you can safely inform him that he is mistaken. As a body you WILL die--but never as a spirit. If only this sense veil were not here you would know everything that has ever happened from the beginning of the ages until now. As a body, however, you cannot possibly know it. So do not lose sight of the fact that the little time we spend upon this earth, in this physical form, amounts to absolutely nothing in the entire scheme of things. What is seventy or eighty years compared to an eternity? It is as the tick of a clock--and the wise man does not spend his time looking after the comforts of his body to the neglect of the REAL or SPIRITUAL body. Never forget that. I am constantly asked if we shall know each other in heaven. My friend and student, the change from this physical life back to the spirit life will be such a stupendous one that I question very much if we shall know that we ever were on this old ball at all or not. We may--but I doubt it. Do not forget that when man's spiritual eyesight is restored, the mortal or physical eye will AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE. Do we remember anything of what we were before the "fall"?--then why should we think that we shall remember anything about this miserable existence after these physical eyes are closed? I am not dogmatic about this point, however, and you are welcome to your own belief about it. What I am particular about is that every last one of my students shall connect with this mighty Life Spirit, RIGHT HERE AND NOW. You can forget the future when you have accomplished that.

When we therefore consider this body as only a temporary dwelling place, and when we consider the death of it so very certain, then we shall not be so much concerned about it as we have been. True, it is that we all want to be in perfect health while we are here, and we should be, and it is the proper thing for us to be. If we are not--then we do not believe this mighty Life Spirit, for WHERE HE IS THERE CAN BE NO ILLNESS--remember THAT. But drugs and pills and powders will never do it. IT WILL TAKE A MORE POTENT POWER THAN THAT. One of the attributes of this mighty Life Spirit is, that it HEALS OUR DISEASES, and along that line let me say that there is nothing hard nor impossible for this mighty immutable Spirit to do. It is entirely a matter of how much we believe in its Presence. I can show any man or woman how to stop pain in a few moments and there will be no drugs used either. All sickness and illness and disease is the result of a non-compliance with the immutable Law we are here studying. And while some of it may be, and probably is, hereditary in the individual, IN ITS ESSENCE it is ALL caused by violation of the Law we are here discussing. There are NOT two forces in the world, the one building up and the other tearing down. There is only one Power in the universe, and that is the Power of the Living God. Were there any other power, then this God of ours COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE GOD, as there would be opposition coming from some other quarter, and this I cannot admit. Neither does any other Psychologist of standing. What some refer to as a "negative force," opposed to the "positive force," is only essentially a failure to comply with the Law of the only REAL FORCE in the universe. Remember that. And remember also, that for 2000 years now, this disobedience has been more and more marked until today there are diseases and illnesses that were never heard of a few hundred years ago. If it be a fact that all sickness and illness is caused as a direct result of a non-compliance with the Law of the LIVING GOD, then it must also be a fact that compliance with this mighty Law will bring relief. And this great Life Spirit can, and will, and does CURE EVERY KNOWN DISEASE TODAY WHETHER IT IS CONSIDERED INCURABLE OR NOT. If this great Life Spirit had power 2000 years ago to raise the dead, open the eyes of the blind, unstop the deaf ears, do you mean to say to me that it has not STILL THAT POWER? You must not tell me that--because I KNOW BETTER--AND I KNOW IT BY EXPERIENCE ALSO. Letters in my possession prove that. And if any of my students are suffering from illness or disease of any sort, then in perfect confidence I say to such a one, the MIGHTY LIVING GOD can rebuke that sickness or illness so that IT WILL LEAVE. WHERE THE POWER OF THE LIVING GOD IS CONTACTED IN SICKNESS, AND WHERE THE PROPER FAITH IS USED, IT IS AN UTTER IMPOSSIBILITY FOR THAT SICKNESS TO CONTINUE.

And as you learn something about the Power of this great Life Spirit, you will learn how to use it for the overcoming of whatever sickness you may be afflicted with. The way it usually works is as follows: Where a person becomes acquainted with, or connects with this mighty Life Spirit for the first time, if that person be ill, this great Spirit usually heals him. If such a one is not ill when he contacts this mighty, immutable force, the same force will KEEP HIM FROM becoming ill. Never forget, however, that it is possible for you to be healed this week and to die next week. You WILL die--never doubt that, and so it is that whatever healing you get from the Living God while it probably will continue as long as you manifest as a body, yet the old body will die sooner or later--and it is probably a good thing that it will. So remember that--but also remember that this mighty Power is able and willing, and more than that, it is an IMMUTABLE LAW that you cannot ask this mighty Power for anything, and ask aright--and not get it. Lesson X HOW TO TAKE WHAT YOU NEED Frank B. Robinson The Ten Lessons The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho August 20, 1930 This is the last Lesson. It finishes the course. One could write several books on each of the ten Lessons sent to you, and then not begin to fathom the depths that are hidden beneath every one of these wonderful Lessons. As this course closes, you must realize that you have had the very best I have. You must pay no attention to the phraseology--forget that. Just live in the knowledge of the Living God, as this course of instruction has revealed Him to you. If you will do that, you can safely leave the rest to this great Life Spirit Himself. This is the Lesson in which you are to learn how to take from the great God the things that you need in this life. And again, the method so long clothed in mystery and superstition is easy. It is the method given by Jesus 2,000 years ago. And so I pass it along to you. I dare not put my own interpretation on a matter as fundamental as this one, neither do I dare change his formula one jot or tittle. The method as given by Jesus actually works and actually brings into manifestation the things desired. And this being the case, I should be very foolish to attempt to

intrude any ideas of my own, when such a Master of Spiritual things as he was spake the simple, plain, untarnished manner in which they might be obtained. But the formula as given by Jesus, as has nearly every other vital Truth he spake, has been shrouded in mystery and superstition until it is a stumbling block. Human interpretation after human interpretation has been put upon it, until today the very simplicity of the Truth has been utterly missed because it is written so plainly. Those who would interpret these words of Jesus to the multitude are saying, in effect: "Of course, this is not to be taken LITERALLY, you know--that couldnt be." Well, in the name of God I ask them, why should not the statements of this great Christ be taken literally? They were written literally. He said nothing about their not being taken literally. On the other hand, time and time again he witheringly denounced the church members of that day for NOT believing him. And the only way you can ever believe in Jesus is to believe exactly what he says, exactly as he said it. The very moment you begin to interpolate another meaning to the words of the Master, just that moment do you make them of no effect. What is it that was said so many years ago: making the word of God of no effect THROUGH YOUR TRADITIONS? Now let us look at the statement of the Galilean Carpenter, and see if we cannot find out just exactly how to ask for, and obtain, the very things we need, right here and now. In Mark's gospel, Chapter 11 and verse 34, we find the remarkable statement of the Master which reads as follows and is the answer to your question as to how YOU are going to get the things you need and desire: "THEREFORE--I SAY UNTO YOU-WHATSOEVER THINGS YE DESIRE WHEN YE PRAY, BELIEVE THAT YE RECEIVE THEM AND YE SHALL HAVE THEM." Could it be put more simply than that? I do not see how. Of course, as I have before explained to you, the human race has been steeped in superstition regarding the things of the Living God for so long now, that belief of any sort is almost impossible. But you who have been studying these Lessons, and doing the exercises prescribed, will not have so much trouble in believing the Living God, for the exercises I gave you, as you will now understand, were for the express purpose of teaching you how to have faith in this Living God. I have already said to you that belief itself is the answer to prayer and that prayer is only desire. Then it must be a fact that the great big thing to obtain is BELIEF or

FAITH. I am satisfied that you, by this time, have had more or less faith in the Living God manifested in your life through the exercises prescribed. Now at this point, do not make the mistake of thinking that faith is DEVELOPED IN YOU. Such is an utter impossibility, and is one million miles from the truth. Jesus said that Faith was a GIFT OF GOD. And so it is. You could try to DEVELOPE faith from now till the crack of doom, and when it cracked you still would be without faith. Now how are you to get it? What was it I said to you about the belief or faith, being its own answer? Listen to me, my friend. By no act of your own could you ever possibly have any faith in the Living God, because, as we have seen, you are alienated from Him by the disobedience of your two foreparents. There is only one thing left to do in order to get the faith necessary to remove mountains, as he said. And what is that? Well, you certainly will never get it by thinking about it. BUT YOU WILL GET IT BY CONTINUALLY ASSERTING TO BE AN ACTUAL FACT THE THING YOU MOST DESIRE. It is a pity that the world is so sunken in gross unbelief that affirmations of faith are necessary at all, in order to bring that faith. In the future it will not be so much as it is now, for men and women are believing this Living God more and more every day. BUT--until the day comes when the race as a whole has faith in the Living God--then it will be necessary for you and me to affirm constantly that we believe a certain thing, in order that the actual real faith necessary to the actual manifestation of that needed thing may come. And the Living God being IMMUTABLE LAW, THEN IT FOLLOWS THAT WHATSOEVER YOU AFFIRM TO BE A FACT, AND BELIEVE TO BE A FACT, WILL BE A FACT. Belief is the Law that is the result in itself. The Living God can not lie--neither will He fool you. So never doubt Him on that score. Any failure to receive the things you need, will not be failure on His part, for Immutable Law has ALREADY DONE ITS PART, AND GIVEN YOU THE VERY THINGS YOU DESIRE. THERE REMAINS ONLY ONE THING FOR YOU TO DO, AND THAT IS TO TAKE WHAT THIS MIGHTY, IMMUTABLE, UNCHANGEABLE, LIFE-GIVING, LIVING GOD HAS ALREADY GIVEN YOU. And literal belief is the one and only way to do that.

Suppose, for instance, that you are suffering from some sort of sickness, (although you should not be, if you have been faithful in your exercises) and you want the Living God to heal you. You, of course, realize now that SO FAR AS HE IS CONCERNED, YOU ARE ALREADY HEALED. There is not a single solitary thing more that He can do, other than what He already has done to HEAL YOU. This is so because His words and He, Himself, are Immutable Law. He has already said: "WHATSOEVER THINGS ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." BY NO CHAIN OF CIRCUMSTANCES COULD IT EVER BE POSSIBLE FOR THAT STATEMENT OF THE CARPENTER'S, REGARDING THE LIVING GOD, BE FALSE. IT IS IMMUTABLE LAW, and the very heavens would fall out of the sky before that statement could ever fail. So you see once again, that the Living God has, by the fact that He is the Living God, GIVEN YOU ALREADY THE HEALING THAT YOU SO MUCH DESIRE. At this point you can do one of two things. YOU CAN EITHER TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. WHETHER YOU ACCEPT IT OR NOT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO, AND DOES NOT AFFECT IN THE SLIGHTEST DEGREE, THE LIVING GOD HIMSELF. I stated to you a little while back, that the man who attempted to thwart this great immutable Law would be ruthlessly brushed aside. I said also that the man who would put himself in tune with this great immutable Law, would be able to get from it whatever he needed. And YOU are at the point now where you can do either one. By this time, most of my students will, in all probability, have realized enough faith in the Living God to keep themselves healthy, and to heal whatever diseases they may have had. THE ONLY THING NECESSARY TO BE DONE IS TO TAKE FROM THIS LIFE SPIRIT THE THINGS HE HAS ALREADY GIVEN US. We have seen that belief, or faith, is the weapon which slays doubt, and brings the answer. Now, if it should be that you, at the present time, have not quite enough faith either to heal yourself or others, or to take from the hand of God the things He has already given you, then you must continue your affirmations UNTIL YOU GET THAT FAITH. I promise you that the Living God will never fool you. So keep up the affirmations until the necessary faith comes.

Use the affirmation: I BELIEVE IN THE LIVING GOD, and keep it up until the faith comes. AND THE ANSWER WILL COME, AND THE PRAYER, or DESIRE OF FAITH, WILL BRING YOU WHATEVER IT IS YOU MOST NEED--SOONER OR LATER. Jesus said: "ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH, BE IT UNTO YOU." He stated an immutable Law when he so spake. Heaven itself cannot change that Law. And you would be very foolish not to avail yourself of it. It will take some people longer than others to obtain the faith necessary to win the victory. Some will get it in a few weeks. Remember that Jesus did not say that you would pray today and get it tomorrow. That usually works in the case of illness, but even then, sometimes the cure is not so quick. I have been asked many times how long it was necessary to keep up these affirmations in order to manifest from the Living God the things desired. To that question I invariably make the reply of the Master: "ACCORDING TO YOUR FAITH BE IT DONE UNTO YOU." So steeped in unbelief and superstition was I when I first began the study of the New Psychology, and so deeply rooted was the inferiority complex, that it took me two years of constant affirmation of the thing I wanted to come, before it actually manifested. And in that two years I repeated this one affirmation OVER TWO MILLION TIMES. Ten hours a day, seven days a week, fifty-two weeks a year for two years, constantly affirming the same thing. I can tell you I was in deadly earnest. It meant success or failure to me. It almost meant life or death. BUT I WON. Very few of you will have to affirm so long as this, but EVEN IF YOU DO HAVE TO, IS IT NOT WORTH IT A THOUSAND TIMES? In the case of ill health you may affirm that "THE LIVING GOD IS MAKING ME WHOLE," and IN THE MOMENT THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS HAS BEEN DONE, IN JUST THAT MOMENT WILL IT BE DONE. Remember the raising of the dead man, Lazarus. Remember the method used by Jesus. You are not Jesus. BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THE SAME METHODS HE USED. HE HAD NO MONOPOLY ON THEM. THE SAME IMMUTABLE LAWS THAT HE USED ARE THERE FOR YOUR USE AND MINE.

And we have one fact that we can rest upon with absolute assurance, and that is the fact that JESUS SAID THAT THE SAME THINGS THAT HE DID SHOULD YOU AND I DO. When by the affirmation, "I believe in the Living God," you find the faith coming, then change it to the words used by Jesus: "I THANK THEE, FATHER, THAT THOU HAST HEARD ME," and continuing this statement of faith until you gain the overwhelming victory. The business man, if he is quietly communing with the Living God every day, can make the faith statement for business success or whatever it is he desires. The whole immutable Power of the Living God STANDS BEHIND HIM. In just the moment he believes the Living God, or His Truths as spoken by Jesus, the Galilean Carpenter, IN THAT VERY MOMENT WILL THE RESULT BECOME AN ACTUAL FACT. The material manifestation may take a little while, as God only manifests His Power through natural laws--never forget that. For instance, if you desired money and were to pray for or desire it, you would not pick up a purse containing money lying alongside the road, in answer to your prayer, or anything on that order. Remember, you are living in the physical body with the Spiritual eye closed. And the Spiritual Law, which will manifest to you in a perfectly natural manner, cannot be seen by you. BUT IT IS THERE, AND IT MANIFESTS WHETHER YOU SEE IT OR NOT. ALL THAT IS NECESSARY IS TO BELIEVE IT. Make the thing most desired from the Living God the substance of your faith statement and THANK HIM FOR HAVING HEARD YOU, and as Mrs. Cady so beautifully puts it, "Sooner will the heavens fall than you be disappointed." -----------------------------This brings me to the close. As you progress in your daily companionship with this mighty Living God, you will find Him an unutterably sweet companion. He will speak to you in a language all His own, and only you will hear and understand. The cares and trials of this life will banish themselves when the mighty Power of the Living God is used against them. Supposedly insurmountable barriers will become as a desert plain. The rough places of life will become smooth, and the worries will not affect you. You will be charmed by the presence of this mighty Life Spirit, who is now your guide, and by constant communion with Him, you will be transformed, and your little

stay on this planet will be a mighty happy one. I said a little while back that the seventy or eighty years on this earth is only as the tick of a clock as compared with eternity. It is not that long. So never lose sight of the fact that this mighty Life Spirit with whom you are now traveling, is the same Life Spirit that has made it possible for you to behold the glories of the Spiritual Realm once more, when you are through with this little existence here. The physical part of it all means nothing. Remember that. What really matters is the countless ages of eternity, which we shall spend with our physical sight closed and with the Spiritual sight once more in operation. If we did not die physically, then we could never be raised Spiritually and could never live forever in the same Spiritual condition in which our two foreparents lived before their unbelief. So I say, do not pay too much attention to the material things of this life, but rather seek the things of the Spiritual life first. Seek to know this mighty Living God. In other words--Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God, and ALL OTHER THINGS SHALL BE ADDED UNTO YOU--an immutable Law of God. As far as I am concerned, beloved, they can carry this physical frame of mine out at any time now. I would not try to hinder them even if I could. For, to me, the dazzling beauty of an unending life spent with this mighty Living God is such an attraction that I shall be glad to lay down these carnal weapons and to rest safe and secure in the arms of the God I have trusted. There are many things we do not know here, and indeed, cannot know because we see now, as through a glass, darkly--but then--face to face. And I can think of no more blissful moment than the moment in which we awake in the consciousness of oneness with God. There can be no greater joy than this. For to know this Living God is to love Him. And I am not a religious man either; at least not in the sense in which the word is used today. You will not find me taking any part in prayer meetings or anything on that order, because I very seldom go into a church. When I want communion with God, I go where I know He is to be found. I go off alone--with nature and natures God. And I can sit down and look at the tiniest little flower blooming along the wayside, for an hour or more, and I can learn more about God from that little flower than I can from the best sermon that was ever preached. There was no doubt or unbelief in the flower kingdom when God ordered the beautiful flowers to grow. They are just as He made them. And when I go out alone with nature, the little birds sing over my head. And the reason they sing so sweetly is because they are just as God made them. There was no unbelief or doubt in the bird kingdom.

But as you grow in grace and strength from day to day, my friend, you will learn more of Him and His glory, and although you and I shall, in all probability, never meet face to face, my last word to you is the same word that the grand old man of God, General Booth, left the world when he died. Lying on his death bed, only a few years ago, the strength from the gaunt old frame fast ebbing away, he beckoned his loved ones to his bedside and putting his arms around his son's neck, in a faltering, dying voice, he whispered: "THE PROMISES OF GOD--THEY ARE SURE--THEY ARE SURE--IF YOU WILL ONLY BELIEVE."
