KNOWING GOD Frank B. Robinson Psychiana Magazine The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho, Aug. 1932.

When a human soul knows God this soul is a complete master of the universe--I mean as far as he or she is concerned. For to know God is to know the only Power there is or ever can be. I do not say that any soul can understand and know God to the full, for there are physical limitations which prohibit this now. But the human soul can know all of God that he can comprehend, and but a faint glimmer of the true light of God is more than sufficient to give complete mastery over everything in life--I mean this literally. This great Spirit would not be God unless it were the Absolute in control of created things. There could be no God with any other force or power in existence, nor can there be any other power than the Power of God. There is no other REAL POWER. There can be no other DYNAMIC or positive power other than the Spiritual Power coming from or rather existing by virtue of the great overshadowing and ever present Spirit of God. Do you wish to raise the question, Whence come murderers, etc.? Then I shall have to answer you, Not from God, NOR FROM ANY OTHER POWER OPPOSED TO GOD, but from an absence of God. Simply this, nothing more. There is not, there cannot be any other power than this GOD-POWER. There is, however, the right to choose or reject this Power, and that right is in the individual normal human life. Were that right not there, then would we not be automatons? Would we be capable of enjoying Spiritual Truths? I think not. Then the question will be asked, Why do men choose to do the wrong instead of the right? I shall answer here that they do wrong because they do not know the right. They know not God. They have heard of a substitute god offered by existing religious organizations; but they know not God for the reason that those who have posed as agents of God do not know Him either. Religion is an evolution--not a theory. It is a life--not a religious tradition that never changes. It is a POWER--a great POWER. It is God. But I mean true religion. True religion never recognized dogma nor tradition for it cannot be contained in them. Dogma and tradition are man-made. God is Spirit. There can therefore be no comprehension of Him by any one group to the exclusion of all others. Why is it that men do not know God? Why has it taken so long for old traditions to explode themselves? However, it has not taken very long--only a few thousand years. What is that? For millions of years and longer than that perhaps, the evolutionary processes have, in accordance with divine God-Law slowly but very surely continued

their upward trend. They are slowly reaching the stage of evolution at which point we are to discard entirely any anthropomorphic idea of God, and all church traditions, and are to KNOW Him for what He is. Look around you. In my yard are rosebushes climbing up the fence. A few months ago I planted a shoot--a tiny shoot. The shoot grew. It grew slowly. Now the roses are there. That is evolution. That is God. In a rose, you ask? Yes, in a rose. A few months ago our Idaho farmers planted grain. They buried it--out of sight. They left it there, completely hidden. Changes took place underground; and now they are harvesting the grain that has sprung from these hidden buried seeds. That is God. In the grain, you ask? Yes, in the grain. In your home there may be a creeping little baby on the floor where a few months ago there was none. First the impregnation of the female. You cannot see the process. Then the formation of the new germ cell. You did not see that either; nor do you know how it was done. Then the enlarged foetus; and finally the full grown child you now see pitter-pattering across the floor. That is God. In a child, you ask? Yes, in a child. As a matter of fact God is in all growth. God is all growth. But why the evil? Only because of the absence of God. There is no evil in the world. What at first sight may seem to be evil, may, in the final analysis of things only prove to be the good in disguise. As a matter of fact that is all it is. Viewed individually, of course, many things look very bad, and taken apart from all other things, they are bad. But you cannot separate anything from anything else. You cannot separate man from God. You may separate YOURSELF from God, if you want to, but you cannot separate anything else from Him. And you will not separate yourself from Him until you pass away. And perhaps not then; for being ALL IN ALL, that includes everything. Is it a cold-blooded definition of God to allude to Him as LAW?--not at all. For this great God-Law is a Law of love. It is a Law of Peace--and the peace is contained in the love. It is a Law of plenty--and the plenty is contained in the peace. There is no strife in the life of the one who knows God; for the God-Law is the Law of peace. Have you nerves? Do you fear to meet anyone? Then you are NOT resting--resting quietly and sweetly in God. You say you are? No, you cannot be; for where the Spirit of God is there is peace. Where this Spirit is, there is Joy. Where this Spirit is, there is Power. And neither Peace nor Power is afraid of anything. They know no nerves at all. They are God. I would not change God from being a Law if I could, for one can depend upon a Law. You cannot depend upon a whimsical or capricious God as the church has, for you cannot tell what he is liable to do next. First he slays 50,000 people. Then he causes the sun to stand still. Then by miraculous and unlawful means he causes a child to be born. But that is not God, for God is Law. A mighty operating Law containing in

itself, all that ever can be. Is God Love? Yes, God is Love. Is God Peace? Yes, God is Peace. Is God all-supply? Yes, God is all-supply. What more can you need? Can God supply? Yes, He can supply. Can He heal? The Spirit of God is LIFE and life is health, NOT disease. Yes, God can heal. But try the Spiritual healing first; then will come the physical healing. Try God first, then will come the quietness. Try God first, then will disappear the nerves, etc. KNOWING GOD--what does this mean? Beloved, it means the fullness of Infinite Peace. Sure, because God is sure. God is Law. It means more than that. It means the fullness of Infinite Power. It means the fullness of emotion, if you want emotion. It means the fullness of mystical (if you please) Spiritual Power. It means the subtle, mysterious something in your life that just automatically makes you a Spiritual man or woman. What will you do when you know God? There are many things you will not do. You will not fret. You will not worry. You will not be nervous. You will not be afraid. For God is a sweet and a holy boldness. He is Life. He is the Life you are living now. Is that life as you want it to be? It is. Is your life as it should be? It is not. If your life is not as it should be you will change it. Can you change it? Yes. How? BY KNOWING GOD. Then how may you know God? By the same means that you would come to know me. First meet Him. Then continue the acquaintance. Then become friends. Then enter into the married state. Be married to God--two makes one. Do you see this? You wish to know where you can go to meet God? Then let me tell you. HE IS EVERYWHERE. I see Him in the flowers. I see Him in my little baby. I see Him in the storm. I see Him in the business success. I see Him in ME and in You. In fact, beloved, you live in God. So how can you ask, Oh, that I might know where to find Him! He is always with you. He is life, and you are a living manifestation of Him. Dont ever ask again how to find God. Keep still. Be quiet. Meditate. Day by day and hour by hour. Then, in the fullness of confidence in this mighty Master, GOD, go forth and in that strength do whatever you want to do. What will the result be? You will be God-like. Often this world does not understand a God-like person. It sees so few of them. For, as the wind, so are the God-like men and women. No one really knows them. They are possessed of a strange power--a Spiritual Power. They are possessed of God. They do things. Usually they make more enemies than anyone else does. But they do things. They are loved by their friends. People come to them for advice, and it is known that these God-folk have been with God. We know they live in that Spirit. We know instinctively that they are God. The picture shows it. The facial expression shows that they are Spiritual in essence. Their whole life shows that they KNOW GOD. Will you know Him? I ask you. I leave the question with you. No churches; no preachers necessary. No form of rituals, no, none

of these--just you and God. If form and ritual know God, I wouldnt want Him; for God is Love-Law. Outside of all religious sects, lies GOD. ***** Psychiana Section PRAYER * * * AND * * * PRAYER Excerpt from: Frank B. Robinson Psychiana Magazine The Psychiana Religion Moscow, Idaho, Aug. 1931. There are two kinds of prayer in the world. One is a waste of time and effort; while the other kind can move mountains. Strange as it may seem, the prayer which one would suppose would be effective is ineffective, and the prayer which the Christian would call unscriptural is the one that is effective. When we think of prayer we usually consider it a matter of getting down on our knees and, with eyes closed, asking some unknown and supposedly holy being in the sky for something we want. That is the usually accepted idea of prayer. And needless to state, there being no god in the sky, such prayers are never answered nor can they be. Then there is another sort of prayer--and this time we have the really successful and dynamic sort of prayer. The sort that gets the results. And that is the sort the world is interested in--the prayer that brings results. In this sort of prayer--the sort Jesus used-all that is necessary is that one be alone. You will remember that when the Galilean Carpenter raised Lazarus, he stated very plainly that no prayer of any kind was necessary, and were it not for the crowd standing around he would not have addressed God at all. Had he not done so, however, these good people would naturally have credited the power to him instead of to the might Life Spirit, and therefore he prayed to God. Not to the anthropomorphic god in heaven, but the God Who was right there with him, willing to operate in the moment the necessary faith was displayed. Jesus did not want any authority or power ascribed to him, for he knew he had no power of any sort that did not come from God. In fact he plainly said so. This real prayer has no spoken words, and does not need any, for this sort of prayer is just simply a recognition of the mighty Presence in the world and in the life of the Master Spirit--God. Just a quiet stillness in the busy rush of the day. Just perhaps a

lifting of the eyes. Just perhaps a sweet smile into the face of God bringing the assurance of His presence--that is all. Just the trust--and then after the trust, the taking of the thing desired. This is all there is to prayer which brings the answer, my friends. Nothing religious about it at all--nothing abnormal. Just a sweet confidence in the mighty Life Spirit and then a recognition that with us and for us is the greatest Power the world has ever known--God. We hear strange tales today of business executives going into their inner offices and leaving orders that they not be disturbed. There, for a few moments, alone with God, they refresh themselves with His presence, and leaving that inner room empowered by the might of God, they go into their business conferences and gain their objectives and one are able to gainsay or to defeat them. This is prayer. Some of the sweetest moments we have in a life which is crowded with activities and which is saturated with the troubles of others, are the moments when we take our Hudson, and with no objective in mind, we drive through this marvelous Idaho country. We will come to some quiet spot with nothing between God and ourselves. We hear the little meadow lark as he sits on a fence post singing away. We see the golden grain waving in the fields. We see the lowing cattle on the hill side. We see the beautiful pines swaying in these wonderful Idaho breezes, and with a heart full of gratitude for life itself, we just simply raise our eyes and say, Thank you, God, for all this. And into our soul steals a sweet peace. Into our life comes a quiet Power. And out of our inmost soul goes a feeling of gratitude as our spirit joins to that of our Maker--and we are happy--and we overcome every obstacle in our path, and we plough through mountains in our effort to send the Living Truth of God round the world. The impossible becomes the possible--the weakness becomes the strength--the sickness becomes the health--the sadness becomes joy--the temporal and transitory petty annoyances are changed into glorious moments of peace and we conquer--we win--we triumph--and we give all the honor for our victories to where it belongs--the mighty Life Spirit. This is prayer. This it is which overcomes. ***** Psychiana Section Return Frank had never really thought about healing. But once he started getting letters of thanks for healing people, he couldn't help but advertise the fact. He would lay claim to some healing instances, but he never really felt comfortable about it. Eventually he would mention it only enough to get his idea across and then keep it low-key. Some quotes:

"It seems to me that the result of any healing is dependent upon two qualities or two situations. One, the amount of compassion which the healer genuinely has the other the amount of faith possessed by the afflicted. You see, both of these qualities must exist."
from 'Gems of Spiritual Truth'

"I have on record probably as many cases of physical healing as any individual in existence, and yet I have never catered to this healing business at all. In fact, I have repeatedly asked men and women not to telegraph me regarding cases of illness, . . . not that I do not want to help, because I do, but the main theme of my message is not physical healing and I do not want it ever to be physical healing, for the simple reason that if I put physical healing first, as many religious fakers do, the eyes of my patients are taken off the real source of power." "I have seen enough of it (healing) to know and to know full well that there is in existence, an unseen Power so dynamic that all powers and forces fade into insignificance beside it. And I have seen enough of the remarkable operation of this Power to know that it works with illness. Not in every case mind you, for there are times when I am just too tired ever to think of these cases. Then again there are lots of other things entering in the matter too. So I am not saying that the results are obtained in every case. I believe it to be absolutely possible for the results to be manifested in every case, even to raising the dead, were the operations of the God-Law fully known. But we do not know fully that Law yet. Some of us are learning. But the fullness of the Power of God is not yet known." Testimonials Origin of Name The story of how Psychiana got its name is a good example of some of Frank's nonstandard experiences. According to Frank, the day before he had to make the decision on what to call his new movement, he calmly knew that it would be taken care of. That night, knowing that something was going to happen, though he'd never done it before, he put a pad and pencil next to his bed. He did indeed have a dream in which he came into a dark room. There was a dead man on a table and another man was standing beside the dead man gently waving his hands over the body. After a while, Frank asks the man what he is doing, and the reply was, "Why, Dr. Robinson, you ought to know. I'm using Psychiana to bring life back to a spiritually dead world."

Later, after the business was going, Frank walked by a desk at his operation and recognized a picture which looked like the man in his dream. Many students sent in their pictures, and this one was from Egypt. Frank immediately replied to the man, a Mr. Birney, and asked to borrow $40,000 on a hunch. Mr. Birney supplied the money and was a student for quite a while. Blood On the Tail of a Pig The book 'Blood on the Tail of a Pig' (1941) was Frank's best seller. The small format, 62 page book was different than anything he had done before. Instead of his usual blunt statements, this book was about the mysteries of life and Frank's experiences with them. The title relates to the time Frank was driving to Spokane and had been following a truck carrying pigs. After getting closer to pass, he noticed a pig's tail bleeding profusely, sped ahead and stopped the truck. The farmer said that he had used a nail sticking out of a 2x4 to get the pig into the truck. The truck continued on its way and Frank stayed for a while, feeling for the pig. After getting back in his car and finally catching up with the truck again he saw that the pig's tail was healed, with no signs of blood. Again, he stopped the truck and both he and the farmer confirmed that the tail showed no signs of abuse. Frank felt his thoughts or prayers had done the trick. Christmas Eve On Christmas Eve, up alone, Frank says, "There is a strange something stealing over me. I sit here at my desk, my hands folded behind my head. What is this strange feeling? What is this thing that is creeping over me? For I experience now a Power, so strange, so beautiful - it cannot come from this earth. A light strange light is flooding this home. It grows in intensity. It seems to center in me. But this Power - truly I have never known anything like this before." "I stand up. I walk into the large living-room. Am I awake? I try the burglar alarm and Florence awakens and asks me what that noise was. So I must be awake. This power - what is it? What can I not do with it? The beauty of this experience grows on me. I am carried out of myself, it seems. I go into the kitchen, turn on the water faucet, have a cold drink of water, then I return to my study desk." "The light still continues to increase in brilliancy. What sort of an experience is this I am going through. Is it God? It must be. For while I have been very close

to God many times during my life-time, the exhilarating glory and beauty of this experience cannot be either described or explained. Pen can never write of this experience. Tongue can never tell fluently what I am experiencing now. For God - yes, it is God - is drawing very close to me. Seems like I am surrounded by a happiness and an indescribable peace." "I lose all sense of physical sensation. Instead, there envelops me an allconsuming flame of infinite love, infinite peace, infinite power. Oh God - if this is really God please never leave me - take me with you. For earth has nothing which can even faintly compare with the brilliance of this experience." During the evening, Frank will see goldfish instantaneously go from their bowl to his hand and back again. His dog Ching going through two locked doors when summoned by his master. Turning dinnerware to gold. Getting a book he left at his downtown office with just a thought. And finally, spending the rest of the evening talking with his long-dead mother about his purpose, with her giving him encouragement and hope. Thoughout the book, Frank tried to calm his audience with expressions like, "As I have stated, I try to keep both feet firmly on the ground. I am not the emotional type." And he had water on his palm from the fish after it happened and the next day a snippet of Ching's hair, his book, and a note he left to himself saying, "I saw Mother with God"
