SU President Election: Manifestos Anya Metzer:

Hello, Im Anya and Im a fresher studying English. I have loved this year at Wadham and would love to serve as your SU President. If elected, I will work tirelessly to fulfil these pledges. With the success of the Sky boycott last term, the SU can offer more than ever to its members and I would help us build an SU to be proud of.

Food
At least one night a week you will find toast in the JCR to greet you after a night out. I will look into creating an SU Buttery so you can get refreshments during the long stretch between lunch and dinner.

Charity, Financial Aid & the Living Wage

I will work with Entz committee to launch bring-and-buy clothes sales and a promises auction to raise funds for our chosen charities. I will also look to strengthen links with RAG. I will campaign to include the option to join the Organ Donor register as part of the forms filled out by new students. To ensure that work experience is not the preserve of the privileged, I will lobby College to financially assist students undertaking unpaid internships. I am dedicated to extending the Living Wage to those working at College to guarantee fair pay at Wadham. I will fight to keep living costs down, increase the Living Out Grant and negotiate a deal on the Iffley Pool. I will introduce food recycling bins and cloth hand-towels to help make our SU greener.

Inclusivity
Together with the Access team I will invite teachers in our target area to visit and speak to students. I will help the Freshers Committee create a myth-busting page in the alternative prospectus to dispel false ideas about Oxford.

Animals
I will organise a petting zoo to visit us at College and offer you the opportunity to walk the dogs at the Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary.

Learning
The Student Barometer put Wadham in the bottom quartile for learning satisfaction. We came second from the bottom on feedback from tutors and had very poor results for support, quality of tutorials, adequate working space and course organisation. I will liaise for better feedback and support to bridge this communication gap, using Academic Feedback Sessions to make our tutors more accountable. I will look into creating a more communal work space in the Old Refectory so that the library can remain a place for quiet private study.

Speakers & Debates

I will co-ordinate with the Warden so that the Wadham Human Rights Forum continues to deliver relevant and engaging discussion of global issues. We have a large MCR community and to facilitate inter-common room conversation I will introduce JCR vs MCR debates on topical and interesting issues.

My Experience
As OUSU Academic Affairs Campaigns Officer I have been representing Oxfords students to the University, fighting to improve the academic experience. This year I have been a Schools Plus mentor, volunteering in Blackbird Leys. I have worked a special needs tutor and a camp counsellor.

Tom Steavenson
Ill keep this short and sweet. The fact that Wadham has an SU is good. It is good that we debate real issues within our SU, and not just have a college funded drinking fund for sports teams. I am proud to be part of a college that takes its opportunity and the freedom granted to us to empower its members with a voice. My main policies will be: I would like to get rid of the need for a two-thirds majority vote to have a secret ballot. I believe that if but one person feels uncomfortable voting aloud we should do a secret ballot. In the event of the SU running a surplus at the end of the year, well have a massive party in the gardens for all students after exams in trinity. I will increase the welfare budget so the officers can expand, with the help of the new welfare reps, their great work. Welfare brunches are ace. You get to talk to people you would never otherwise know and have some canny scran. I will also delegate far more responsibilities, this can be done more easily now the officers are aided by reps. Looking to the future, I wish to make a solidarity pledge to the Illuminati so that we [Wadham] are on its good side when they rise up and establish the New World Order.
