Educating Children with Autism. Washington DC. National Academy Press. 2001. Print This gives a plethora of information about different struggles and techniques that can be used to help students in the classroom. This is mostly helpful for me for learning how it affects families. There are some techniques given for educators to try out in the classroom as well but other sources have more information. Gallo, Donald. Owning it. Somerville: Candlewick Press, 2008. Print. Owning it is a collection of stories about teens with disabilities. This book covers several disabilities giving a first person point of view of how these teens deal with them in their everyday lives. Stress can overwhelm anyone and this book gives insight into how it can be dealt with even with disabilities, whether they are physical or psychological. Kimberly Crosland and Glen Dunlap. Effective Strategies for the Inclusion of Children with Autism in General Education Classrooms. Online. This article also talks about the rise of Autism in America. It gives several strategies to include autistic students in a normal school environment. Antecedent procedures (manipulating the environment), delayed contingencies (unpredictable reinforcement and supervision), selfmanagement, peer intervention, and individual interventions are all discussed as strategies that can be put in place. It also talks about inclusion and restructuring of school systems to increase inclusion and peer interaction. Magyar, Caroline. Developing and Evaluating Educational Programs for Students with Autism. New York. Springer Science and Business Media. 2011. Print This book goes over many different techniques used by educators. This was my primary source of information about how educating disabled students is applied to the school system. Not only does it inform how it works it also gives a suggestion about the Train-the-trainer model which I referenced in my paper. Sansosti, Frank. High-Functioning Autism/Asperger Syndrome in Schools. New York. The Guilford Press. 2010 Print This book gives the most background information about how autism affects students as well as what schools are doing about it. It does not focus much on the actual techniques that could be implemented but rather more about what is happening now. It is a great source of information about IDEA and IEPs.

Vito, Loiacono and Barton, Allen. Education Resources Information Center. International Journal of Special Education, pg 120 127. Online. This article is about the rise of autistic children in America and the lack of training teachers receive to teach them. ABA methodology is a special form of teaching that has proved successful in the classroom for students with autism. A very small percentage of special education teachers have received this training however. Once students reach the college level ABA teaching becomes even rarer.
