SHE Foundation Update

As most of you know, we have been preparing to move since I got here in January 2012. The purpose of this section of my newsletter is to inform you of what we have been up to and how things are changing in this transition. Vision: SHE Foundation is a Thai charity that is recognized by the Thai government. Our goal is to help women and children. We exist to offer an opportunity for a better life. We provide alternate employment for those women who are trapped in the sex-trade industry and for those who are at risk for entering the sex-trade industry. We teach English, sewing, baking, jewelry making, and we can train them to work in the hotels. We want to empower these women with skills that will enable them to function and provide for themselves outside of the sex-trade industry. We are in a very exciting time as God has been unfolding His awesome plan for SHE in Koh Sirey. This move has made it possible for us to get involved in much more than we were previously involved in. We have just started to partner with an American company called The Village Experience. Their vision is to create sustainable employment opportunities in places that need it. Their vision falls right in line with ours. We get to make some of the products that they sell in the USA and we now have several jobs available to Thai or Burmese women in need. The jobs were all taken almost right away. We have two women who are coming to live with us with their children and we have 6 others that are employed. In the area around our location, there are several Burmese work camps with many opportunities to reach out to a people group here in Thailand that is in great need. We have begun to visit the different camps to build relationships and gain trust. Soon, we will be adding more positions and we would love to offer this opportunity to some Burmese women! We are also hosting a YWAM Discipleship Training School (DTS) at SHE! Southern Thailand in particular, is a place described as a missionary graveyard. We are excited about hosting this DTS because it will provide a place to train up native Thai people to go preach the Gospel in their own country. We are hoping that some of the students will receive a heart for Southern Thailand and desire to spread the Gospel in a place that is less than 1% Christian. We also continue to minister in the red-light district in Patong. Since January, we have had about 10 shortterm teams come through. We continue to ood one of the darkest places Ive ever seen with the light of Christ.

My Role:
I am the Outreach Manager for SHE. My job is to train, coordinate, and support the shortterm teams that come to serve with us. I organize their ministry in the red-light district and also around Koh Sirey, which is where we are located.

My heart is to serve this ministry, the teams, and the Thai people in the best way I can. I can be found, at any given point, mowing grass, praying for people, practicing Thai, doing ministry in the Red-Light District, answering emails, leading prayer and worship sessions, creating relationships in Burmese work camps, going on/leading prayer walks, teaching, discipling, or any number of things. I do what needs to be done as best as I can get it done.

God Stories!!
The Passport: Immersion team was here in December and January. They got in a minor accident and a thai guy on a motorbike was slightly injured. A team member jumped out of the car and eagerly prayed for healing. and the man was healed. Right thereon the street. His eyes got super big and he then ran around telling everybody watching what God had just done for him. The man left without demanding restitution and the cops left without hassling the team. It was a night of miracles.Sometimes, the things we think of as disasters, God uses to bring about healing and restoration! One night, as I was training a team to do ministry in the red-light district, a woman walked up and asked us what we were doing. I explained to her why we were there and asked her if she wanted prayer. She made all 15 of us stand in a circle and hold hands to pray for her. In the middle of the red-light district!! As we were praying for her, people kept coming up and asking us what we were doing, so we invited them into the circle. We ended up praying for several people before our night officially began!

Several of the teams have been coming in contact with a western man that works for a strip club on Bangla Road. He used to live his life for Christ and has walked away from his faith. He has a very low opinion of himself and is pretty sure that God agrees with his own opinion of himself. Every team that has been here since November has randomly found him and ministered to him. He came to visit SHE at one point and he keeps pointing girls towards us as a job opportunity. Please pray that he begins to relent as God continues to pursue his heart!!! We are beginning to see God move in so many new ways on Bangla Road. As teams have been going, they have been talking to the Burmese and Nepali shop owners more and more. A few teams have taken quite an interest in ministering to these shop owners and we have seen a few of them come to Christ. We were able to point them to a small Thai Church that meets on Sunday afternoons. There is a man who does a magic show in the redlight district every night. He does it in the middle of the street. The last team that was here created a relationship with this man and prayed healing over his knee and it was healed! Many teams have been led to minister to this man and he is sometimes very open and curious and sometimes almost hostile. Please pray that as the teams continue to show love to him, that his eyes would be opened!

Support Update
Needed Support Current Support

God is so good. He is continually providing for my needs. I will never be able to thank him or you enough. It never ceases to amaze me to see people support me through prayer, nances, or just friendship. My biggest need, at this time, is for monthly donors. Any amount from $5 - $500 would be an enormous blessing. I am looking for people to come alongside me and join me in this journey. I also need prayer warriors. I will be sending out emails with prayer requests and I need a group of people who will commit to praying for me and SHE ministries while I am serving with them. This might be the most important thing you could do for me. If you are interested, please email me at amandathompson79@yahoo.com I also have a monthly goal of $1,000 for living expenses in Thailand. The time that I committed to SHE Foundation will be up in January, 2014. It is now May and I have a little over $1,000 in my support account. Therefore I have a current need of $6,000. Please consider partnering with me and SHE to bring KINGDOM to Phuket!
