Chapter 1 A. Introduction About The Author Egoyan was born Atom Yeghoyan in Cairo, Egypt, the son of Shushan (ne Devletian) and Joseph Yeghoyan, artists who operated a furniture store.[7] His parents were Armenian-Egyptians, and he was named Atom to mark the completion of Egypt's first nuclear reactor. In 1962, however, his parents left Egypt for Canada, where they settled in Victoria, British Columbia, and changed their last name to Egoyan. Atom Egoyan, OC (Armenian: born July 19, 1960) is a critically acclaimed Canadian stage director and film directorEgoyan made his career breakthrough with Exotica (1994). His most critically acclaimed film is The Sweet Hereafter (1997),] and his biggest commercial success is Chloe (2009)] .Later, he directed the erotic thriller Chloe (2009), theatrically released by Sony Pictures Classics on March 26, 2010. This film grossed $3 million in the United States theatrically and became one of the higher-grossing specialty films in the United States in 2010. Several months after the DVD/Blu-ray release of Chloe, Atom Egoyan said that Chloe had made more money than any of his previous films. [13] The success of Chloe led Egoyan to receive many scripts of erotic thrillers.

The summary of the Movie This movie tells the story of a prostitute woman involved in a person's home life, and then he fell in love with the same sex so trying to find a way to keep them together. Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried playing the film with extreme circumstances. And make the character Chloe is superior here. Catherine (Julianne Moore) has a happy life, she is a doctor and has particularly her own practice. At the beginning of the story Catherine felt everything changed when her husband (Liam Neeson) can not be present at the surprise birthday party . After his return home, Catherine saw a woman in a photograph with her husband, since that time , she felt her husband was having an affair ,and Chloe go in their lives. One day she met (CHLOE). She asked Chloe to meet her husband David to test the loyalty David to

Catherine. Catherine felt her life collapsed when she heard the story of Chloe. Here seen from the beginning of the film, the characters look catherine the emotion from her face that showed he suffered.

Here Chloe and Catherine relationships become more thriller, and the director managed to make the audience become more confused, because here the viewers will feel what Catherine experienced the stuck position. Chloe exploit her son to approach Catherine, Michael knowing what happened to his mother as Catherine approached. Chloe tried to kiss her as a last request, but Catherine accidentally push Chloe fell through the glass her

window, at that time Catheriene surprised when her son looking at the two of them kissing. Chloe died with a smile to Catherine. In the end of the movie Catherine wearing the hairpin Chloe gave it to Catherine.

CHAPTER II THEORETICAL GROUND

1. Psychological Approach In this thesis, the writer uses the term personality disorder . According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV), a personality disorder is an "enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectation of the individual's culture, is pervasive and inflexible, has an onset in adolescence or early adulthood, is stable over time, and leads to distress or impairment." Because these disorders are chronic and pervasive, they can lead to serious impairments in daily life and functioning. In this thesis, the writer only used one kind of personality disorder, that is borderline personality disorder which is related in Chloe film. Types of personality disorders Cluster A - Odd or Eccentric Disorders Cluster B - Dramatic, Emotional, or Erratic Disorders

Antisocial Personality Disorder Borderline Personality Disorder Histrionic Personality Disorder

Cluster C Anxious or Fearful Disorders

It is used to analyze Catherine ambition in obtaining happiness. There are several factors one ambition is to get something that you want, such as unstable interpersonal relationships, have difficulties with mood, self-image, and behavior. A Psychological Approach is a theory created by a psychologist. This theory is applied to different aspects of Psychology; the approach basically provides an explanation of a specific topic from a certain point of view. It is important to know that a Psychological Approach is not a complete explanation of a specific topic, so a particular approach is not the 'correct' answer to a topic it is simply applicable. According to NHS, Some experts think that this is no longer the most appropriate term to use. The symptoms of borderline personality disorder include: difficulty in making and maintaining relationships having an unstable sense of identity, such as thinking differently about yourself depending on who you are with harming yourself or thinking about harming yourself (for example, cutting yourself or overdosing) fearing being abandoned or rejected or being alone sometimes believing in things that are not real or true (called delusions) or seeing or hearing things that are not really there (called hallucinations). A person diagnosed with borderline personality disorder will have most

of these symptoms and they will have a significant impact on their life. People with borderline personality disorder come from many different backgrounds, but most will have suffered some kind of trauma or neglect as children.(2009:4

CHAPTER III ANALYSIS

1. The causes Catherine have personality disorder A. Borderline disorder Catherine has borderline personality disorder because of something happened in her household, she thought her husband had an affair that made her depressed and hallucinating . When Catherine wanted to surprise David, David turned out not to be present, he reasoned that her plane ride there are delays, but he wanted an invitation to ameal with his students. At that time Catherine was disappointed because she had invited all of their old friends to come to a birthday party David. And when morning came, David was already in the room, when David was in the room, Catherine was checking david phone, in that phone she found a picture David with a girl. In other side she knew her son brought the girl to stay at his house, and he felt the loss of a child where the child must always be looking for his mother It can be seen from the dialogue between Catherine and David at time 1:32 : Catherine David Catherine David Catherine David so ...... Catherine : Hallo : Hai Catherine : Hi honey , are u home? : maybe I will come late : I've spoken with the airline, they said your flight has landed : I'm a few minutes late, you say you can not pick me up at the airport : do you know when you're going to get home? 7

Catherine tried to calm sadness and disappointment against David, and he went to sleep, when the morning comes Catherine David told that he would be late again. above events, Catherine be having negative thinking to David and she felt view of the changing nature of her son ,and that the one who makes Catherine getting borderline personality disorder. According to NHS, Just under 1% of people have borderline personality disorder. Some of those people may also have other conditions such as depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or bipolar disorder, or problems with drugs and alcohol. Although some people may have borderline personality disorder for a long time, many do recover from the condition.(2009:4) Many factors can make a person to be mysterious or have borderline personalities, such as negative thinking, disappointment, anxiety, doubt or lack confidence, and bad treatment etc. Catherine become hesitant and worried because she felt her husband's change of attitude. Therefore Catherine not to be confident, he asks Chloe to make love to her, she wanted to know how when her husband was having an affair with Chloe. It can be seen at the time of 0:58:07,

It is what NHS said People with borderline personality disorder often have other conditions, such as depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and drug and alcohol problems. Before you are treated for these conditions, your healthcare team should review your diagnosis (of both borderline personality disorder and any other condition) and look at all the treatments you have had. Any treatment that is not helping should be stopped. You should be able to have treatment for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or anxiety at the same time as having treatment for borderline personality disorder.(2001:13) From this theory we know that honesty good for relationship and communication . Borderline personality is depend on the main of human . what should be offered for borderline disorder , the answer is psychologycal approach. 1. The effect of Borderline personality disorder Catherine toward the people surrounds her A. Mental disorder After Catherine having sex with Chloe, she returned home by midnight with Chloe . Catherine asks Chloe to do not meet her husband again, but Chloe still want to meet her, and Chloe gives hairpin to Catherine. C. CONCLUSION This film tells the story of Chloe. a female prostitute who has a mental disorder, but here the author will discuss Catherine, who is a doctor who loves Chloe. Catherine has a happy little family, but she was disappointed with her husband due to reduced attention to it, so he told Chloe to test his loyalty. Catherine stress disorder since her husband's lack of attention and also his son. Chloe inclusion in the life makes life more complicated. So he held the sex with Chloe and her husband was not in fact cheating. when was he became frightened and anxious person. Chloe ultimately died of accidental Catherine.
