DEEP SPACE EXPLORERS

Excelsior-class
Active Service: 2284-present
Excelsior-class starships were first introduced in 2284 as The Great Experiment, meaning that the vessel was to have been equipped with transwarp drive. While the drive simply didnt deliver the velocities hoped for, it was an improvement over the speed records of the Constitution-class, and the stability of the design, the longrange capability of the starship, and the extreme maneuverability (despite the seemingly gangly design), resulted in this starship class (and its Enterprise variant) replacing the aging Constitution-class fleet.
