Closing down the St. Lawrence psychiatric center will cause a hardship to patients and families alike. Also, as a rural area in need of jobs this closure would be devastating to the local economy. Many people depend on this facility for care (multiple counties) and jobs. I think a more metropolitan area closure would have a lesser impact both on the economy and patient/family care.

Ogdensburg Closing the psych center would be a dire mistake! Not all people are made for out patient care, some really need to be locked up. Closing the psych center would create a bad situation of people with severe mental illness roaming the streets. That is a dangerous situation for every single person who lives in this town!

I find it very sad that the Governor and other politicians think this will solve any financial problems. If you close this facility, then unemployment increases in a county that is already hurting. Add this to the threats that are also being placed on Sunmount Facilities and what does upstate ny have left? Very pathetic to also think what is going to happen to these people when the smaller run agencies cannot handle the excess. If the state plans on sending money that way then what is the difference? ( where is the savings) It comes down to lack of caring for the mentally ill and lack of caring for the communities that will be affected by mentally ill people not receiving the care they need.

I have worked with several other mental health facilities through my employment at SLPC and I know that SLPC provides outstanding service to the mentally ill and their families. The employees value their position and are dedicated to serving the mentally ill. To close this facility would be a tremendous error on behalf of NYS.

Rensselaer Falls The hospital employs well over 500 people. For that many people in this already depressed area to lose their jobs would only serve to depress the area even further. The services offered by this facility are needed and from my understanding is the only facility in a 7 county area that serves clientele of this type.

This would SO adversely affect the people who continue to live and believe in Ogdesnburg. Both my parents retired from the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center which has served many people both local and long distance. The economic impact would continually raise the unemployment rates that have continued to cripple your economy there.
Ogdensburg Hailesboro Ogdensburg There is so much need here in the North Country and so few treatment options. Please don't dessert the needs of the patients. The new administration of St. Lawrence should be pushing to increase inpatient beds. Besides that, we are already in an econimcally depressed area. Give us a break already! Please do not even consider closing our Psychiatric Hospital. We need the Psychiatric Center. A few years ago alot of patients were released and put out on the streets and were homeless and weren"t able to function on their own, they need to be responsible to take care of themselves, to know how to shop for food, take their medicines on time, therer are many factors to be looked at, before closing the psychiatric center , and people need to think before they act on such a major transition for the people living at the psychiatric Center andalso the people who are living in the community. The Psychiatric Center serves many people who need it's services. The Psychiatric Center serves 6 counties, and is centralized for the needs of the real north country, the one beyond Albany, which is very often forgotten. Please consider all avenues before making such a critical mistake.
We need to save our family's jobs and have a place for the people in need of these facilities!
The burden on North Country Families who have family members requiring periodic care at this facility would be awful. Not to mention the jobs that would be lost. Please let the North Country of New York have a voice in this decision!

Ogdensburg Mental Health is a growing issue. It makes more sense to improve the system more than making it more complicated to find help.......... Northern New York needs this facility. Rome I am really against SLPC closing, our population here really need this here. If we were to shut down where would the residents go, a lot of people rely on the facility. What would it do to the economy? Over 500 people would be out of a job. What would that do to Ogdensburg and the surrounding communities. I for one need my job here. The quality of care here is excellent, friendly, caring atmosphere. It would be devistating to the clients, residents, patients, staff and surrounding communities. Please help us keep SLPC up Reannelaer Falls and running now and for years to come. gouverneur The city and people of Ogdensburg need this very important facility. It's closing would not only devestate Ogdensburg but also the patients that need it. I find it amusing that regionalization always means move services downstate. A region stretching from Syracuse, let alone the PA border to the Canadian border is rediculous. These same politicians and bureaucrats who refuse to travel to Ogdensburg between November and May for fear of bad weather, see nothing wrong with the citizens of the North Country having to travel for hours for services.

Mental health has been in the forefront of many national tragedies. To further reduce services in a rural area will mean that it is not accessible as individuals needing it will not travel to keep appointments or to get their meds reviewed or evaluated for effectiveness. Not to mention the devastating affect on a rural economy. Sometimes you have to represent the minority and do what is right for rural Northern New York State.

Although now in NC, I am from Ogdensburg NY. All States need to keep their Psych Centers open. Closing them poses so many social issues for the mentally ill. Closing of this facility would create hardship and a huge burden upon the families and patients who need its services. It's appalling that the OMH would even consider such a move especially since this facilty has such a devoted and dedicated staff with exception care for the patients. Seriously mentally ill patients need a safe and reputable facility to treat them. Neither the Syracuse facilities nor the Binghamton facilites have the same level of consistent care as does St. Lawrence. I realize that may be a difficult pill for the OMH to accept but for many who have multitude of experiences it is the truth of the matter. The state needs to consider keeping these facilities open and use St. Lawrence as a model. I have no faith in the State's plan for Regional Centers. Mentally ill patients need substantial daily care and not political rhetoric in place of good solid medical treatment. Thank you.

While I am no longer a resident of NNY, I was born and raised near Ogdensburg, NY. My family has and continues to benefit from the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center both in jobs and in seeking treatment. To close this facility is not just irresponsible, it is also immoral. Where pray tell would you the so -called "experts" suggest the residents and patients who receive care from this facility go to continue their treatment? Where would you suggest the employees go to feed their families and pay their mortgages? Are you all willing to open your homes and wallets to help feed, shelter, clothe, and treat the employees and patients? I think not. Maybe you are hoping that this closure will inadvertently provide overwhelming support for your antigun campaign when one of the patients goes without their treatment and storms into a local Northern NY school and proceeds to blast away at its occupants in a psychotic rage? Where do you plan to relocate all of the sex offenders which reside their? Maybe in your house with your children and spouse sleeping in the next room? I think not! When will you people open your eyes and listen to the truth! There are thousands if not millions of residents in NY State alone who receive assistance from the state

Heuvelton As if those with mental healthy issues don't have enough to worry about.....why not make services less accessible and move them far away to a "mental health hub". Don't they and their families deserve better treatment than that? And what about all those who are now employed serving that population? The North Country can not sustain that level of potential unemployment. In fact, I would recommend expanding the use of the psychiatric center to include a Veterans Administration Hospital as well. That would be "centrally " located for all the disabled vets! Ogdensburg needs to be considered for an opportunity as a center for excellance we've already shown that this is a very supportive community when it comes to dealing with and helping the mentally ill and families. thanks Patty for putting up a fight!!!!

There are many people who need their services and where would they have to go to get them away from here. We are a slow prospering area and don't have many job opportunities for people in this area so your willing to take away from this community some more work? If there was a closure of this facility there were be many people out of work and there are people who can't find jobs now closing this and your going to have more people needing care, and services through public assistance. Here's an idea for you why don't you open and expand services down there at the psychiatric center and offer more job opportunities and more help for people.

We might as well become part of Canada again because Albany is sending the message that little St Lawrence County doesn't make a difference well it does to all of us that live here and we are taking a stand. Since SLPC was down sized in the past. The needs of mentally ill have been woefully mismanaged. They have left to on ther own woithout any support or guidance in the community. Some have been told they are to ill to receive services.Shame on you for not providing these people with adequate services

I have many, many relatives, friends, neighbors, and business associates who work at the center. If they were to lose their jobs, there are not many other jobs in our area that offer the pay and benefits to replace such job losses. They would be forced to move to other communities, states, or countries. I am a business owner in Ogdensburg, which puts my business and so many others at risk also if the center closes, because many of those workers send their families to my business daily, weekly, and yearly. Therefore, this will create an ongoing downfall that is irreversible in a way that I do not want to see happen. Ogdensburg There are many reasons to continue the long-standing service that SLPC provides to Northern NY. One of the most important is jobs to support the local economy, not only the jobs at SLPC, but also the spinoff that results from those jobs being available. We cannot sustain ourselves if we keep losing jobs here in the North Country. I have had family who needed these services and it would be a horrific loss to our communities There's so many other ways to save money instead of wrecking an entire community, why don't you explore those avenues???? If you don't know where, open your eyes! As a local college professor I consider the center an invaluable resource for the many students, faculty and staff and their families who succumb to the many pressures of modern life. I feel a lot better knowing professional help is available just 45 minutes away. I have had students attempt suicide and end up using these services. The proposal to centralize services elsewhere would make it really impossible to provide the kind of care needed for such a person to reasonable reintegrate into the college community after a situation like attempted suicide. The proximity to the college makes it much easier for parents, college staff and psych center staff to provide our students with much needed support.

To close this institution would be a travesty to our community. Not only would this action cause 500 local jobs, it would also cause additional undue stress to the patients. If we didn't have a facility close to home, patients and their families will be forced to use facilities that are too far for families to visit frequently. Without the consistent support of family and friends, patients can take much longer to recover. The cost of the individual seeking treatment will also increase as there will need to be transportation. Ambulance transport is not cheap and will be added to (in most cases) the state bill. Please consider the domino effect closing this facility would cause. There must be something that can be worked out. Lay out the issues to the public and ask us for ideas and feedback. You would be surprised what brainstorming among the people this action will affect can result in.

Without the Ogdensburg Facility those of us like myself would have to travel to Lord knows where to get the right help that our loved ones need and are being given currently right here close to home. I must say that the people in Albany have probably never had to deal with a suicidial person or someone that is suffering from a mental break down because if they had then I think they would be looking at this in a whole new light. This center is a necessity to the entire North Country Region I do hope that our State Representatives are listening and people are speaking out in support of this because if they do take it away it will be gone forever and that just makes for a longer distance to travel to get help for your loved one or yourself... I assure you that parents find it hard enough to leave their children in Ogdensburg to get the help they need how would you feel if that distance was increased by say... another 3 hours or more. As a high school guidance counselor, I feel that that SLPC is an extremely valuable resource. St. Lawrence County kids deserve the support and services they provide. As someone who has worked in mental health in this area for over five years, I can say we simply need this inpatient facility to stay open. As it is, people sit in the ER of our 9.39 hospital for days sometimes while we look for appropriate inpatient availability. The Psych Center in Ogdensburg has been and is home to a couple of my immediate family members. It serves as a safe residence for those who are unable to care for themselves in the community. In fact, I believe that there should be more residents there -- rather than putting them out on the street to fend for themselves, when it is very obvious that they cannot. The Psych Center also provides employment for many people within St. Lawrence County, and there aren't many employment opportunities in this area - and taking those jobs away would create hardship for many famlies. This would not only affect them, but the surrounding communities that depend on their business within the area. Again, rather than doing away with the Center, I think you should be considering expanding it to accomodate more residents who need a secure place to live.

Canton I'm astonished to find out that state lawmakers think its a great idea to close an institution that provides mental health services to the state's residents. These are the types of services we SHOULD be paying for, as they serve the public good and help to improve the lives of its most vulnerable citizens. Since most of the law enforcement in this state has failed miserably at preventing crime and have essentially been relegated to issuing traffic tickets to state taxpayers, maybe the Commissioner could find some room to cut them out of the budget instead of essential state services.

As a teacher in an area served by the SLPC, I am deeply concerned that the quality care close to home could migrate away from our area, thus making delicate situations even more difficult for families battling mental health issues. Our nation believes that mental health is an important issue today. Why focus cuts in the mental health field?? Getting from one place to another in the North Country is hard enough--especially in our long Winter; imagine trying to travel all the way to a "regional" center all the way to south of the Thruway--and especially during our long Winters! It makes perfect sense to keep Ogdensburg as a regional center for the whole North Country!

I began my nursing degree at the SLPC School of Nursing in the summer of 1977, graduating with an RN Diploma in May 1980. Closing the School of Nursing was a poor decision, as is potentially closing the SLPC. As a healthcare administrator, I witness daily the lack of psych/behavioral health facilities to place these patients for appropriate treatment. This results in overburdening emergency departments for extended lengths of stay or worse discharging patients to live homeless on the streets. Sandy Hook, CT is two towns over from the town I reside in. In the wake of that tragedy and other similar occurrences, logic seems to support increasing access to psychiatric/behavioral health care versus diminishing access all together. Respectfully, Thomas A. Wilson, RN, MS and CAPT, NC, USN (RC) Retired

Please do not take away access to mental health care that is close to home for our patients. Take care of long term patients. They deserve this service, it could be someone you love who needs special long term care, think of that. Protect those in need. The lose of the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center will be devastating to an alreay empoverished County. We cannot readily survive without those 500 quality jobs. The Psychiatric Center jobs help to enable Ogdensburg and the surrounding communities to be somewhat self-sufficient in an already struggling area. What will we gain in place of this, a Casino? It is highly unlikely given the non-compete pact that is in place between the Akwesasne Indians and New York State. In Ogdensburg, you will see clients from the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center ,walking the streets, sitting in local convenience stores, etc. smoking cigarettes, playing lottery tickets, and not very well taken care of because many of the homes they live in do not dispense their meds properly or they don't take as they are supposed to. They need the old wards with people keeping close observation on them. You representatives in Albany need to get your head out of your "butts" because your home care ideas and having regional centers will not work . However your still going to have to pay to take care of them. So keep the existing psych centers and take care of them right. If some of the people were one of your relatives or kids I bet you would have a different outlook on this. Do some good for a change.

I live in the Syracuse area but have followed closely the impending closures of mental health institutions to be determined. The psych center in Ogdensburg is miles from the nearest center in central or western new york state; those psych centers have closer proximity than the isolated Ogdensburgh facility. Can you imagine the winter drive for families from the north country across Route 37 or Route 12 and down the often treacherous interstate 81? If you have never been on 81 in the winter? This is a hardship for patients and families-when a loved one needs inpatient mental health care, they also need a strong support systemfriends/family and how often do you think these support people will be able to visit having to drive the long miles with gas at exorbitant prices and often treacherous winter conditions to visit their loved ones? Fort Drum also needs this facility in Ogdensburg-there has been much publicity about the forgotten or neglected mental health needs of our military; the same can be said for their families, particularly their children who often need inpatient mental health needs. The economic strain to the north country would also be great-the north country has recently struggled with employment issues; the north country does not need

It is hard enough coping with the reality and stigma of mental illness. Most of the families this closure would affect already live close to or at the poverty level and below. They can't afford to drive hours for essential care. High quality residential care saves many lives. If you can't afford to get to a pace that has those services, your suffering loved one may give up and give in to options that are at best unhealthy ( self treatment via substance abuse or worst case suicide. This facitlity offers so much to our county such as jobs and a safe place for sick individuals to go , be safe, and to allow the families to rest better knowning their loved one is being taken care of . I really hope a decision isn't made in haste but is based on the need. The SLPC serves over 7 counties in NY state. Please think about all of these patients that will also go without care. Two generations of my family have served the SLPC and have relied on this facility as a source of income and livelihood. Many families will be uprooted and a community will be destroyed. SLPC helps so many not only those who reside in St.Lawrence County, but those from Franklin,Lewis,Jefferson, and Clinton County. Closing this facility what not only impact those employed there, but the North Country as a whole. These folks who suffer from mental illness need and deserve societies help to deal with these illnesses. If not here then I fear may will end up in prison or just die. These are real deseases and will not just go away because you close the Psyche center. We will end up helping them anyway either in prison or some other unfortunate and perhaps even more expensive intervention.

They saved my child's life. When her father was killed she was inconsolable...suicidal. The SLPC gave her a safe place where she could recover, and taught her life coping skills. Without her time there I have no doubt that my child would have eventually succeeded in taking her life. The entire psy center grounds are too valuable of a resource in this state to lose. They should receive appropriate funding for a birth-adult center.

There are so many people in need of services in this area. Some of the needs is to address acute care. Waiting list for outpatient care is generally 6 months or more waiting list. What are these people going to do? Life happens! You could be the very next one in line feeling despairation and helplessness with no place to go for help! What would you do? No one knows until they are in that very situation and has a dire need for inpatient professional help.

You can't close this facility@! I grew up in Heuvelton, and my dad worked at the facility. You NEED jobs! And the mentally ill need the help they get there. Believe me, I know what it's like when there isn't enough mental help to go around. You'll have mentally challanged people living in the streets. I know many people who have been helped by the kind and caring people at the SLPC. Closing this facility will mean people from the north county will need to drive many miles to seek help and their loved ones. Closing the center will just add to the devistation the north country has experienced in the past several decades as the steady drain of jobs leave the north country along with our future. I know times are tough for NY and its budget but Ogdensburg has suffered too much already. The North Country needs a facility in it's area to help the mentally ill in this area. Most people with mentally ill family members could not afford to drive there sick friends and family to Albany to recieve help.It is a very much needed service for the people in the norht country. We cannot turn our backs on the mentally ill people who live here. These children need a place!!! Please think of families and individuals that need this high level of care to keep their mental wellness stable. Realize that Ogdensburg is already a long distance for loved ones to receive this level of care. Many times family members are unable to comute to Ogdensburg to participate with team meetigns and safe discharge planning. If this hospital closes you will be adding to the stress of a longer distance to travel- which may then be impossible. Local Community supports and services are wonderful- but we need a somewhat close (1 1/2 hour ) travel time to get needed care at this level. If you increase the distance for people to get care- they simply will not want to go. We need to look long and hard at the stress levels taht will be put on to adults and children and families as a whole if this hospital were to close. You may just add to their stress of seeking needed care. The result may cost the state more in the long run. Please look at all aspects. My concern is the consumers and families. Thank you for your time.

I support changes for SLPC to become a Center for Excellence. The challenges that are present in the north country could best be served by SLPC. Trying to keep children out of OCFS case, out of long term placements and residentials would be increasingly difficult and near impossible in some instances without a facility like SLPC. With that being said, changes that could create a shorter inpatient stay, more supportive case management services, parenting programs, and more intensive aftercare services could improve the quality of care, likelihood of a need for a future inpatient stay and better health and well being of the individual/family that is being served. If we can not afford to help our own community members, WE NEED TO PULL OUR SUPPORT IN OTHER COUNTRIES!!! HELP HOME FIRST! Use the right side of your brain for once.

As a school counselor, I have had approximately 15 students stay at the SLPC over the last 12 years. Students who are in crisis at at risk of harming themselves or others, have been treated at the Psych Center and have returned to school in a much healthier state than prior to going. Although, the SLPC is 1.5 away from my small school district, it is by far the closest inpatient treatment facility. Our district, asw ell as all others in Jeff, Lewis and St. Lawrence county, would be at a loss without it.
Please carefully consider human consequences and costs of getting rid of this vital service.

I have an child that has received inpatients services at SLPC. It is a long drive to reach SLPC however, it is much further to other Centers. I know she would not be having the family contact if she was placed farther away. I am a retired employee of SLPC and feel that instead of reducing inpatients or closing they should be expanding. The wait times to get into the hospital or outpatient clinics is way too long and these people need care and better followup.

Logistically it is imperative to keep the SLPC located here in St. Lawrence County. The size of the area that it serves cannot be stretched any thinner. It is imperative that these patients have the ability to get to and from the hospital and their caregivers easily. It is a fact that living outside the hospital grounds is not as secure and monitored as it needs to be, so to have the center at least available is mandatory for their mental therapy and health.

The families and people of the North Country needs to have a local option for access to this critical care. I know that community supports work and help many peoples needs, there are times that a residential facility is needed. The North Country has needs and should have one. Coping with a mentally ill family member is difficult and it even more burdensome if time and distance separates the ill from care and their support structure.

Without SLPC many suffering from mental illness will go without treatment. Even one is unacceptable, but closure of this facility will affect thousands. The cost of closing the center surely will be much greater than keeping it open and serving the residents of Northern New York. As a resident of St. Lawrence County for most of my life, I completely support "Saving the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center". Not only do they provide services and assist the people who need help, but they keep people employed. Both reasons make it essential to keep the center opened. Being a college graduate in May of 2011 with an Associates Degree in Accounting and a Bachelor's Degree in Business I realize how important this is. Upon my graduation I still have yet to find a job in this county that matches my degree. Closing the psychiatric center will not only make jobs more difficult to seek, but it will ensure that people that need mental assistance will have none. Being a resident of St. Lawrence County in the State of New York, I really think the commissioner should really re-think the plan. You are affecting the lives of many, many people.

As longstanding volunteers in our community and as retired educators we know the debilitating impact that would result from any closure of the St Lawrence Psychiatric Center . During our careers we have seen the quality of services rendered to many individuals in the six northern counties of the state . As a former senior administrator in the SUNY system. I am more than familiar with the high value services and programs that are offered to the most at risk population in our state . Several interventions helped several of our young students turn their lives around and offered much needed therapeutic and support services throughout the years . Moreover as as current member of the Board of Directors of Claxton Hepburn Medical Center i am keenly aware of the need to maintain and yes even expand these vital services to the people of the Northern most counties of our state . Let us BUILD upon the excellent reputation for quality and cost effect service delivery that has long been a hallmark the the SLPC . The OMH and the State of Ny would be well advised to grow such an asset rather than retrench it . Moreover the need for service in this region has never been more critical . to abandon the least able ,who are also the most geographically remote would not

SLPC is vitally important for the survival of mental health care in New York State. SLPC provides for the mental health needs of approximately the northern third of the state. I am a Board-Certified staff Psychiatrist at SLPC and I know that we provide high quality mental health care to individuals in dire need of services who are geographically isolated from other providers. The loss and/or significant downsizing of SLPC will directly and adversely impact countless thousands of people in our state. The loss of 500 jobs at this facility would have disastrous and debilitating effect on our regional economy. For many who might lose their jobs, there would be painfully few alternative employment opportunities to take the place of those offered by SLPC in this region. Please respect the integrity of the SLPC and allow us to continue to serve the mental health needs of Northern New York.

As a teaching professional in St. Lawrence County I am extremely concerned that the State would even consider a "Regional Center" as a viable option for children and adolescents to be serviced outside their own communities, that we are working so hard for them to be College and Career ready for. How sad that we would allow our "children and adolescents" to be under such false pretences, as that they would think that we are trying to reconnect them to their small community connections, when in actuality we are setting them up to be moved to larger cities away from their families and necessary supports in order for them to become productive citizens in their "home" towns. After working at SLPC for 36 years, it is a travesty that such a valuable local resource would be even be considered for closure. When the real issue actually lies with the State not considering how much money is being placed in Administrative hands without looking at how those positions could be "downsized" and is holding our mentally ill children, adolescents, and adluts responsible for their own fiscal downfalls.
The closing and/or down sizing of the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center would be devastating to this area. St. Lawrence County is the largest county in the State of New York, already struggling with high rates of unemployment, poverty, lack of public transportation and limited quality health care services. This facility has the capacity to make changes to remain competetive within the managed care system, but starting with making services inaccessible to consumers and their families is truly disturbing. The "Mission" of SLPC and other OMH operated facilities is being ignored and the people who it will harm the most are the same people that enter the front doors daily seeking support from SLPC. There are ways to reorganize how OMH facilities are operated and still be competetive in the managed care system by looking at consolidation of administrative, personnel, human resources, quality management, information technology, health information management and related services just to name a few. Lets not take the already limited mental health resources the North Country has and move them to a large urban area, call it "Center of Excellence" when in reality being served by a facility with no vested interest in this community.

The State of New York has been "dumping" our folks with severe, often chronic mental illness onto the streets since the early 1980's. Although this practice, arguably driven by State cost savings, has been successful in some instances, yet cruel and tragic for many others. St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center has a distinguished record of providing safe, quality care for our citizens with long term, often lifelong mental illness. Eliminating this resource is incredibly short-sighted and not in the best interests of the few that are still served here. This psychiatric center is important to the community because it has a childrens' unit and adult inpatient unit, and is 125 miles from the next nearest center. Service is already a long way away for those in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties. It would be unfair to the citizens of those areas to have them travel 100 or more miles FURTHER than they already have to for services. Yes I am concerned about the loss of jobs, but I am more concerned about what will happen to the people who need the services that are provided by this facility. The North Country is faced with many unique challengesinternational, state and tribal borders; being in a high intensity drug trafficing area (HIDTA); increased binge and 30-day use of alcohol by teens, and low economic status are only a few. Addiction and abuse of drugs and alcohol often co-occur with mental health related diagnosis. The North Country needs to keep the Psychiatric Center's services to allow for timely, local treatment- especially for youth! There is no social justice in removing this service. Most families cannot afford to transport family members south of the Thruway for treatment- let alone travel to visit. And it would be a complete injustice for youth to be removed from their families for the length of time in treatment. Please choose to help revitalize the services offered at this location instead of depleting the few resources we have. Our priority should be to help out these people that have mental health issues, not to put them out on the street like has been done in the past with no place to go.

SLPC is vital for the mental health needs of our city and the larger North Counrty community. SLPC provides a variety of services needed by so many. In theory, it is easy to conceptualize a regional center, but in reality, not so easy. How much time would you be willing to lose from work to attend doctor appointments? counseling sessions? family therapy? How much time would you want your child to miss school to attend therapy sessions, counseling, and/or psychiatric appointments? For those of us who live in the North Country, distance and weather play an importatnt role in our way of life. We need our hospital to serve our people! It is unrealistic to require that the taxpaying public of the North Country should have to give up vital services. We have an outstanding facility, with skilled, caring people who do their jobs very well. Our current "Center of Excellence" should continue to serve the large geographic region north of the thruway!!! 500 jobs? There are enough unemployed! And what about the patients? Please keep the facility intact so that it will continue to serve the needs of the deserving people in northern New York. There is so little help for people in the North country with mental issues. Please consider this before closing this important facility! St Lawrence cannot afford t lost 500 jobs, The clients of the Center cannot lose their support system and the help they receive!

Redford Gouverneur Gouverneur Given the large geographical area served by SLPC and the need for secure inpatient psychiatric care in the region, the services provided by SLPC are essential to the service delivery system.

as a resident of SLC and a mental health patient this will severely impact our economic status The closing of the Psych Center would not only impact the lives of the people with mental illness but the families of the people who work there, including ours. It is needed in the North Country and will cause devitation to many if they close!!!

I just started working as a child psychiatrist in the C/Y unit last 11/12 and have felt that we, the staff give excellent and high quality service to each and every patient that comes in the door. With the change of the patient care climate to the community setting, the staff are capable of being flexebile on the needed changes and education in order to fill in the new niche of community service. People living in a rural setting such as the 7 counties we serve, is the closest and most convenient and humane setting for people in psychiatric needs and crises. Money for gas and distance will discourage people in need and their families to seek inpatient and outpatient care that is badly needed for their loved one or themselves. Hopefully, SLPC will not close for the sake of everybody involved. Thank you.

The St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center has been a part of this community for over one hundred years. The employees have served New York State with homor in providing the very best in care for those in need. Please don't disrupt these vital services which could also result in too much of a financial devastation to this area - one that we could not endure. Show your appreciation for these fine services, and respect to those employees by supporting our efforts to keep this center here and functioning.

Ogdensburg Ogdensburg truly needs the Psych Center, for reasons that are readily apparent. Please consider all the information and opinions presented before making any downsizing decision. In this large rural area closing our hospital would put many patients out on the street. It would also require extensive, expensive travel to another hospital in the state.

Phan Thit, VN I am management at a local food establishment. A lot of our business is directly from the psychiatric center. If it closes, we will lose a lot of business and in turn have to cut back our hours to employees and possibly lay off to keep the payroll percentage down. This would effect all local businesses but our establishment is in very close proximity to the psychiatric center and would absolutely be a problem for us.
