Inthisproject,youwilldesignfourpartsofastaplerthataremadeofsheetmetal. Thesepartsareshownwiththecorrespondingnumbersinthetopfigure. 1. Handle 2. Plunger 3. Base 4. Magazine Thelowerfigureisthefinished,fullyassembledmodel.

DesignAspects Severalaspectsofthedesignthatyouwillencounteraredetailedbelow. LayoutThestaplerassemblyusesalayout,whichdeterminesthetwomain dimensions:theMagazineangleandtheHandleangle.Thelayoutdriven dimensionscanbechangedexternallytoopenthestaplerassembly. SkeletonModelThetoplevelskeletonmodeldefinesthedimensionsand locationsofthevariousstaplercomponents.Individualskeletonmodelscontrolthe locationofthecomponentsintheassemblywithrespecttotheskeletonmodel. Thepublishedgeometryfromthetoplevelskeletonmodelservesasalinkbetween thepartsandtheskeleton. ModelTreeTheassemblyisinitiatedbydefiningthetoplevelassemblystructure containingemptyparts.Individualcomponentsarepickedupandthereferences andfeaturesarepopulatedbasedontheskeletonmodel.

Step1.Reviewtheskeletonandlayoutmodels. hand_stapler_skel.prt Noticethedatumplanesdefinedwithdimensionsforthefour componentsofthestaplerassembly,whicharetheBase,Handle, Magazine,andPlunger.Also,noticethePinaxisandtheStapleCenter definedwithanaxisandaplane,respectively. 1.Scrolldowninthemodeltreetoseethepublishedgeometryfeaturesforeach ofthestaplerassemblycomponents. 2.ClickFile>Declare>ListDecl.Reviewthelistofdeclareditemsinthe skeletonmodel. Youcancaptureallthenecessarydesigndimensionsforcreatingthe componentsandassemblingthemintheskeletonmodel.Theskeleton modelcanbedrivenbyalayouttoexternallycontrolsomedimensions.

NoticetheMagazineandtheHandleanglesdefinedasparametersinthe layout.

5.ClickFile>CloseWindow>File>CloseWindowfromthemainmenutoclose bothofthewindows.

Step2.Retrievethestaplerassemblymodelandreviewitsstructure. 1.ClickOpen fromthemaintoolbar. 2.IntheFileOpendialogbox,selectHAND_STAPLER.ASM andclickOpen. 3.Reviewtheskeletonmodelsandthecomponentsplacedin theassembly.Inthemodeltreemenu, clickSettings andthenclickTreeFilters..Ifnecessary, enabletheFeaturescheckboxandclickOK. 4.Expandthepartsinthemodeltreeandreviewthedefined features.

Theskeletonmodelsarecreatedtocontrolthedimension andlocationofeachoftheassemblycomponents.The publishedgeometryfromthemainskeletonmodelisplaced ascopiedgeometryinthecomponentskeletonmodels.The partsarecreatedintheassemblyasemptypartsandplaced atdefaultlocationsorwithreferencetotherelevant skeletonmodel.
