Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) is one of the oldest and prime textile research institutes in India.

It was established in 1974 by joint efforts of the textile industry and Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. Initial Objectives The objective behind establishment of NITRA wast to meet the requirements of a flourishing textile industry in India. It was realized that there is an immense need of a robust educational research institute dedicated to textile industry. It has to be noted that India has been at the forefront of numerous textile revolution since ages. Hence, NITRA was conceptualized and established to support the Indian textile industry. Currently, it is based in the Ghaziabad city, an industrial city close to the NCR region. It has to be noted that research is the key to vital growth in every industry. Key Works at NITRA Currently NITRA is involved in numerous types of research and work related to textile product development, machine design, instrument development and process development for everything related to the textile industry. NITRA is completely equipped with patented technologies and world-class equipments to carry forward research and textile consultancy works at the institute. At NITRA, the quality testing equipments have been designed keeping in mind the evolving needs of the textile industry. Various laboratories situated at NITRA analyze materials as the standardized tests. Some of the notable standardized tests that are used to assess and analyze materials at NITRA are based on IS, ASTM, DIN, BS, ISO, JASO, AADTCC, EN and other customized standards. New Feather's in NITRA's Cap It was in the year 2009 that the a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for protective textiles was established at NITRA in association with the Ministry of Textiles. The activities of CoE-Protech have been phenomenal in the recent years and both combined have been involved in a variety of works namely product development, standards, specifications preparations, training manpower for the textile industry and conducting seminars and conferences to spread awareness and information about latest happenings in the textile industry. Consultancy Work at NITRA NITRA given its expertise is also involved in technical consultancy for the textile industry. Some of our technical consultancy services include frequent technical audits, feasibility studies, certification services, infrastructure set up, asset valuation, third party inspection, energy conservation & energy audit, design and commissioning of ETPs & CETPs and product/process development. NITRA Technical Campus to Boost Engineering and Textile Education NITRA has recently launched the NITRA Technical Campus to cater to the growing needs of manpower requirements in the textile industry and its related apparel supply chain. Today, NITRA also offers 4 year B. Tech programs in Textile Technology, and Computer Science & Engineering. Besides that it also offers 2 Year PGDM program in Fashion Retail Management (FRM). The programs at NITRA are approved by AICTE.. Only the B.Tech programs are affiliated to the Mahamaya Techincal University (UP). The FRM program is associated with the Manchester Metropolitan University (UK). The Technical Campus is equipped with facilities like separate hostel for boys and girls with decent ambiance and necessary requirements.
