Vehicle Number Plate Recognition Using Mathematical Morphology and Neural Networks
Abstract: This project presents a method for recognition of the vehicle number plate from the image using neural nets and mathematical morphology. The main theme is to use different morphological operations in such a way so that the number plate of the vehicle can be extracted efficiently. The method makes the extraction of the plate independent of color, size and location of number plate. The proposed approach can be divided into simple processes, which are, image enhancement, morphing transformation, morphological gradient, combination of resultant images and extracting the number plate from the objects that are left in the image. Then segmentation is applied to recognize the plate using neural network. This algorithm can quickly and correctly recognize the number plate from the vehicle image.

Vision-Based Eye Blink Monitoring System for Human-Computer Interfacing

Abstract: This graduation project aims to present an application that is able of replacing the traditional mouse with the human face as a new way to interact with the computer. Facial features (nose tip and eyes) are detected and tracked in real-time to use their actions as mouse events. The coordinates and movement of the nose tip in the live video feed are translated to become the coordinates and movement of the mouse pointer on the users screen. The left/right eye blinks fire left/right mouse click events. The only external device that the user needs is a webcam that feeds the program with the video stream. In the past few years high technology has become more progressed, and less expensive. With the availability of high speed processors and inexpensive webcams, more and more people have become interested in real-time applications that involve image processing. One of the promising fields in artificial intelligence is HCI(Human Computer Interface.) which aims to use human features (e.g. face, hands) to interact with the computer. One way to achieve that is to capture the desired feature with a webcam and monitor its action in order to translate it to some events that communicate with the computer.

Multi-modal Interfaces for Interaction Communication between Hearing and Visually Impaired Individuals: Problems & Issues
Abstract: One important and challenging problem in human interaction is the communication between blind and deaf individuals. The challenge here involves several cases: (i) first case is a deaf person usually does not speak in order a blind person to hear him/her; (ii) second case is when a blind person speaks a deaf person cannot hear; (iii) third case is when a deaf person makes sign language signs a blind person cannot see them. Thus, this paper presents a study on multi-modal interfaces, issues and problems for establishing communication and interaction between blind and deaf persons. A system-prototype Tyflos- Koufos is proposed in an effort for offering solutions to these challenges.

Embedded Vehicle Control System Based on Voice Processing Technologies

Abstract: The paper reports one Microcontroller car which processes speech-LINGYANG SPCE061A microchip forming Speech Recognition System. The Speech Recognition system not only has high recognizable veracity, small volume, economy-power consumption, lower cost, high operation speed and real-time speech Recognition. Furthermore, the function of speech cue offers a favorable interface for human-computer interaction in the system. These characteristics embody fully predominance of the embedded speech recognition.

A Test bed for Voice-Based Robot Control

Abstract: A hardware and software configuration is being developed to support research and development in speech recognition(SR) as applied to the interactive control of devices. A research goal is to investigate new signal processing techniques and parametric representations such as those used in speech coding to improve communication effectiveness for person-toperson communications [1], [2], and to apply similar types of processing to improve the performance of machine recognition. SR systems are often developed and trained using prerecorded databases, which often do not capture the range of variation that can be expected in reality. For example, words spoken while reading or in casual conversation sound substantially different in live environments including noise, vibration, distractions, or emotional stress. A live system is desired to set up games or other situations which introduce excitement and competition, with the resulting changes in vocal characteristics. Therefore, the testbed includes high quality recognition software and allows a high degree of interactivity. It is intended to support testing and improvement of speech recognition algorithms and software in a realistic environment. It should be suitable for research (improved audio feature extraction algorithms, model adaptation, etc), engineering (reliable data acquisition front ends), and human factors evaluation. The paper discusses the motivation, chosen software and hardware approach, and some results. I plan to demonstrate the robot responding to various navigation commands using either a conventional microphone or a modified throat microphone.

Human Voice Based Wheel Chair Control Abstract: Voice-controlled wheelchair is an innovation in the
field of rehabilitation as it has precise control and accurate movements. Although voice recognition is not a new concept, it could be appreciated when it is physically made to help those who lack physical ability. The software used is IBM ViaVoice 5 Release 2 Windows 98 Home Edition coupled with major hardware. The speech signal is recognized using the software and the control signals are transferred to the hardware set up to provide the necessary mechanical movements like front, back, left and right. This wheelchair has additional facilities with obstacle detection circuit.
