1. GENERAL 1.1 Scope This Specification, Purchasing Standards MB2-1PS and SDR-2MB-2 cover the requirements for fabrication testing, and inspection of parts fabricated from Ni-Fe-Cr alloy plate, sheet, and strip for furnace applications. Exceptions to this specification, if any, and abbreviations are in accordance with Technical Standard MB15-1TS. (Note: KBR will be referred to as the Purchaser.) 1.2 KBR Documents, Codes, and Industry Standards The following documents are referenced herein and form part of the Order. Additional KBR documents, when applicable, will be listed on the Requisition. Applicable dates of issue for industry standards and codes shall be as indicated in Technical Standard MB15-1TS. KBR DOCUMENTS 4-7TS, "General Welding Requirements" MB2-1PS, "Purchasing Requirements For Furnace Materials, Components, and Equipment" MB8-1TS, "Examination of Welds in Furnace Process Coils" MB15-1TS, "General Furnace Specification" SDR-2MB-2, "Supplier Data Requirements - Fabricated Furnace Components" AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS (ASME) ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section II, Part B, ASME SB 409, Section IX, "Material" "Nonferrous Material Specifications" "Nickel-Iron-Chromium Alloy Plate, Sheet, and Strip" "Welding and Brazing Qualifications"

AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TESTING AND MATERIALS (ASTM) ASTM E112, "Determining Average Grain Size" 2. MATERIALS a. b. Material shall be Ni-Fe-Cr Alloy UNS N08811 in accordance with ASME SB409 of ASME Section ll, Part B. Grain size shall be determined, as required in Article 4.1, after final heat treatment.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION NICKEL-IRON-CHROMIUM ALLOY FABRICATION FROM PLATE, SHEET, AND STRIP DATE: 01 JUN 2003 3. FABRICATION 3.1 Welding 3.1.1 Welding of seam welds and selection of electrodes and weld wires shall be in accordance with Purchaser Technical Standard 4-7TS, the fabrication code and the following, unless otherwise noted on design drawings. a. Welding procedures and operators shall be qualified in accordance with the requirements of ASME Section IX. Welding procedures shall be qualified on the same material as specified. The root pass for single welded joints shall be made using the inert gas, non-consumable electrode arc process with added filler metal and inert gas backup. The weld surface and the adjacent base metal shall be free of all welding slag. Slag may be removed by stainless steel wire brushing or grinding using tools that have not been used on other materials. Seam welds shall be 100% penetration. Backing rings shall not be used. The surface of the seam weld shall be free of ripples and undercuts to permit examination by radiography and liquid penetrant method with unhindered interpretation of any indications of defects. Weld contour and the finish which do not comply with the above requirements shall be ground to a finish of approximately 250 in. Ra (6.3 m Ra). The internal weld protrusion shall not exceed 0.06 inch (1.6 mm). The seam weld reinforcement shall not exceed 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) and shall blend smoothly into adjacent surfaces. Arc strikes on pressure parts shall be avoided. If any occur, the surface shall be properly conditioned to eliminate surface stress raisers and shall be examined by liquid penetrant examination. Repairs to the pressure parts shall not reduce thickness below minimum required thickness.

3.2 Examination of Welds Welds shall be examined in accordance with Purchaser Technical Standard MB8-1TS. 3.3 Heat Treatment Heat treatment shall be in accordance with the following: a. Uniformity of the heat treatment temperature shall be verified by calibrated thermocouple attached to the parts. At least two (2) thermocouples are required; one (1) each shall be located at the expected hottest and coldest portion of the part being heat treated. Satisfactory evidence shall be furnished by the Supplier that the thermocouples were checked before and after heat treatment of the material and that the thermocouples and temperature recorder were found to be properly calibrated to within 5oF of the temperature in the specified range. A continuous furnace shall be monitored with a calibrated optical pyrometer. Formed parts shall be solution heat treated in accordance with ASME SB409 and evaluated for grain size in accordance with Article 4.1.

4. TESTING AND INSPECTION 4.1 Testing On each batch of the heat treatment lot, one grain size determination will be made of the first ten (10) pieces and on 10% of pieces thereafter. The grain size number or a photo-micrograph shall be reported. The grain size shall conform to an average grain size of ASTM No. 5 or coarser in accordance with ASTM E112. 4.2 Inspection All phases of fabrication are subject to observation and review by the purchaser's inspection. The purchaser's inspector shall be allowed to witness any part of the examination and testing at his request.
