Oak Cabinet

Copyright U-Build, Inc., 2003. All rights reserved. Printed in the U.S.A. This versatile oak cabinet makes a great storage and display unit that looks great in any room of the house. In the kitchen, its perfect for table linens or dishes, and it makes a great sideboard or bar in the dining room. In the family room, use it as an end table or TV stand and fill it with videotapes, CDs or games. A handsome addition wherever its used, the project measures 27 inches tall by 29 inches wide by 15 inches deep.

NOTES
1. Read manufacturers instructions before operating equipment. 2. Always wear safety glasses. 3. We used oak for this project, but almost any lumber (such as cherry or pine) will work equally well. 4. When using finish nails on oak, drill pilot holes to avoid splitting. 5. Finish project with builders choice of stain.

Read all instructions before beginning any work. Cut all material to sizes shown in cutting schedule.

1. Allowing for two dowels per joint, mark and drill side frame boards (A), (B), (C) and (D), face frame boards (F), (G), (H) and (I) and door frame boards (S) and (T) for 3/8 dowels. Note that biscuits may be substituted for dowels. Refer to Isometric.

2. Cut a 1/8 wide by 3/8 deep dado in boards (A), (B), (C), (D), (S) and (T). Refer to Figure 1.

3. Insert plywood side panels (E) into side frames (A, B, C, D) and assemble using glue and 3/8 dowels or biscuits. Check for squareness. Refer to Isometric. 4. Attach side subassemblies (A, B, C, D, E) to shelf (J) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Isometric. 5. Assemble face frame (F, G, H, I) and using glue and 3/8 dowels or biscuits. Check for squareness. Refer to Isometric. 6. Attach face frame (F, G, H, I) to cabinet using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Check for squareness. Refer to Isometric. 7. Attach top (K) to cabinet using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Isometric. 8. Route a 3/8 wide by 1/8 deep rabbet around the inside back edge of cabinet for back (R). Refer to Isometric. 9. Attach trim boards (L), (M), (N) and (O) to cabinet using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Isometric.

10. Attach spacer blocks (Q) to inside of cabinet side frame boards (A) and (B) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Refer to Isometric. 11. Attach drawer guide mounting boards (P) to spacer blocks (Q) using glue and 1 1/4 finish nails. Note that boards (P) must be flush with sides of drawer opening. Refer to Isometric. 12. Insert plywood door panels (U) into door frames (S, T) and assemble using glue and 3/8 dowels or biscuits. Check for squareness. Refer to Isometric.

V 13. Cut a 1/8 wide by 1/4 deep dado in drawer sides (V). Refer to Figure 2 and Isometric. 1/4 1/4

14. Insert plywood drawer bottom (X) into drawer sides (V) and assemble drawer (T, V, W, X) using glue and 1 finish nails. Check for squareness. Refer to Isometric. 15. Install drawer guides on drawer sides (V) and drawer guide mounting boards (P) per manufacturers instructions. 16. Attach back (R) to cabinet using glue and 1 finish nails. Refer to Isometric. 17. Sand the completed cabinet. 18. Apply finish of choice. 19. Install doors. 20. Install finish hardware. 21. Install drawer on drawer guides.
