Abstract
Although Tanlu fault is one of the most important tectonic fault zones and active earthquake belts in eastern China, little is known about its deep structure. In this study, we use the existing Bouguer gravity data to study the middle section of the Tanlu fault zone, which is also known as the Yishu fault zone. Our gravity inversion results indicate that the Moho has an abrupt offset in depth at the Tanlu fault zone and it has a relatively smooth variation away from the fault zone. The crustal structures on both sides are different from each other. Sediment is thin on the west side with an average thickness of less than 5 km, while it is as thick as 6 km on the east side. The thinnest sediment (3~4 km) is at the fault zone. Moho depth increases from 33 to 34 km on east side and from 36 to 38 km on west side. Tanlu fault zone is shown as a wide zone of linear gradient in the Bouguer gravity anomaly. Key words: Tanlu fault; gravity; Moho discontinuity CLC number: P312.1 Document code: A

Introduction
Tanlu fault zone is one of the most important tectonic faults in eastern China. It controls the regional structure, magma intrusion, resources distribution and seismicity in eastern China and attracts the research interest of scientists of the world. Tanlu fault zone started active in Cenozoic and dominated the evolution of blocks on both sides since Precambrian (Okay and Sengor, 1992; Yin and Nie, 1993; Li, 1994; YUAN, 1995; CHE et al, 2002). In recent years, a series of exploration methods such as aerial magnetic, gravity, magnetotelluric, deep seismic sounding and geothermal were carried out to survey the deep structure of Tanlu fault zone and its adjacent areas. Although these works were not comprehensive, it has revealed the preliminary geophysical feature of Tanlu fault zone (State Seismological Bureau, 1987). As the main part of Tanlu fault zone, the middle section, which stretches nearly 500 km from Changyi, Shandong Province to Jiashan, Jiangsu Province and also is called Yishu fault zone, has been being most seismically active since Quaternary. The majority of historical strong earthquakes
