Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah

In a game of Bible trivia could you identify the above Old Testament characters? Im sure you could if I used their Babylonian names given to them by Nebuchadnezzar yes, you guess it Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego (or as we said as kids to bed we go). So why is it we know Belteshazzar as Daniel instead of the Babylonian name given him but his companions we have etched in our memories not by their given Hebrew names but the imposed names reflecting the gods of Babylon? Is it just how the story unfolds? That is, its not our fault that the inspired writer told the story that way. Well, if you need that excuse then hang on to it because Im sure when youre at the banquet table in heaven seated across from them theyll be tickled pink (under their white robes) that you wanted to remember them by the names imposed on them by a conquering king who almost barbequed them! Or they might be just a bit confused that you didnt see the main plot that the story is that against all odds if we will remain faithful to God He will be faithful to us. That is, we are His people and He is our God. Our citizenship is in heaven and no earthly power can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord! O, by the way Hananiah means in Hebrew Whom God has favored. Mishael means Who is like God. And Azariah means Whom the Lord helps. Do you think maybe just maybe their names are important to the story of those who wept by the rivers of Babylon (Psalm 137)?
