Overview of the years ICT syllabus; overview of the schools computer system; checking everyone can logon; organizing your ICT work - creating a filing system; health & safety points. Windows Explorer; icons, shortcuts; personal and shared folders; file and folder management; using USB drives; transferring files to/from school/home; using Help and finding things out. Sending and receiving email, including attachments; Google Documents Knowing how to use ICT without creating health or safety problems (for people and equipment!) Understanding the components of a computer system (e.g. CPU, memory, disk drives) and external devices (e.g. USB drives, scanners) by looking inside them How information is stored digitally: Bits and Bytes to Gigabytes Using a word processor to create, save, edit, format and print documents; printers and printer settings (e.g. draft) Formatting text fonts, indents, alignment, headings etc. Using images and tables Introduction to Google Sketchup; basics of design; viewing tutorials; downloading models More tutorials; designing your own room or home or vehicle or anything! Completing your models Entering and editing data in a spreadsheet; rows, columns and cells; formatting, fonts, styles, colours, etc. Automatic row and column totals; formatting numbers, decimal places, etc. Addition, subtraction and other formulae (e.g. average, min, max); graphing Using a digital camera and scanner; editing images (e.g. cropping, rotating, altering colours) More advanced editing: layers, transparency, fine editing tools Creating an amazing image to enter in our competition Digital imaging competition! The structure of the internet; safety and privacy on the Internet; using a web browser (Internet Explorer); search engines Searching for information; sources of information; evaluating reliability; copyright and plagiarism; pasting images and text into documents Researching Future Technology (not weaponry!), collecting up-to-date information about the latest and future developments (text, images and links e.g. to videos) Planning a slide a presentation on Future Technology; consider your audience and your purpose; tips for success; overview of MS PowerPoint Creating a presentation in MS PowerPoint; creating and organising slides, slide masters, transitions Slide layout, bullets, images, links; animations Presentations to the class; feedback from others Presentations to the class; feedback from others Learning the basics of computer programming with Scratch Creating animations with movement and sounds More advanced features of Scratch Exploring on-line drum machines, sequencers and synthesisers Using MS Word to create a webpage; choosing a topic and planning content and layout to suit your objectives and audience; tips for success Researching topic; adding images, hyperlinks, tables etc. to your page Linking your webpage to other students pages to create a class website Research and plan a report on how you think ICT will affect your life and world Complete your report.
