THE DAY OF PENTECOST

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Come, holy Light, guide divine, now cause the Word of life to shine. Teach us to know our God aright and call Him Father with delight. From every error keep us free; let none but Christ our master be that we in living faith abide, in Him, our Lord, with all our might confide. In Jesus name I pray. Amen (Lutheran Service Book Hymn # 497, stanza 2)

WELCOME
Today we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost, the culmination of the Easter celebration, the end of the festival half of the Church Year. The resurrected Christ, having shown Himself to His disciples and having ascended to the right hand of the Father, sends the promised gift of the Spirit to the young expectant Church. Later this morning in the 10:45 Service we will celebrate the public confessions of faith of four of our young people as they are received into communicant membership through the Rite of Confirmation. The Church continues to carry out the Great Commission of baptizing in the name of the Triune God and teaching everything that the Lord has commanded us to teach. Welcome to everyone gathered here this day for worship. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need. Restrooms are located downstairs in this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions please speak with an usher or greeter. We invite you to come and worship with us again.

AS WE GATHER
In the Third Article of the Apostles Creed which we will speak together in this Service, we confess the Holy Spirit and what flows from His Work. The Holy Christian Church consists of all believers in Christ. Those who are believers in Christ, those who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. This is delivered to us by the Holy Spirit through the Means of Grace, Word and Sacraments, as the Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel, enlightens us with His gifts, sanctifies and keeps us in the true faith. Indeed the Holy Christian Church is the Communion of Saints in this place joining their voices with the saints of heaven giving praise to God and the Lamb, Jesus Christ. We are given the righteousness of Christ through the forgiveness of our sins and by it we have the hope of our resurrection and everlasting life. These things are most certainly true.

THE ORDER OF DIVINE SERVICE FOR THE FESTIVAL OF PENTECOST

Prelude Ringing of the Church Bell
Please stand and face the processional cross.

Declaration of Grace

John 1:12; Philippians 1:6

A In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ He gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. C Amen

O Holy Spirit, Enter In [BuxWV 223] - Dietrich Buxtehude

Service of the Word

Introit LSB 913
Ps. 104:24, 2728, 30; antiphon: Liturgical Text

Processional Hymn: O Holy Spirit, Enter In

A Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful, C and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Alleluia. A O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; C the earth is full of your creatures. A These all look to you, C to give them their food in due season.

Confession and Absolution

The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

Invocation

Matthew 28:19b; [18:20]

A When you give it to them, they gather it up; C when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. A When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, C and you renew the face of the ground.

A In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen

Exhortation

1 John 1:89

A If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

C Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen A Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful, C and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Alleluia.

Confession of Sins
A Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen
