Types of Abortions

Introduction

The abortion is a reality in our world, many women take this decision for different reasons, and there are many opinions in favor and against. Is really difficult to talk about it because, we cant understand why these women has incurred in it, and less we dont know what is the babies feel in an abortion, some people think that the unborn babies dont feel pain or fear just the babies havent completed their development. The abortionist used different methods to practice an abortion; all of them are very painful for the unborn babies, and occasion cause many damage in womens body, also when thereve had an abortion (spontaneous or intentional) always cause physical and psychological consequences. There are many places when we can obtain information about of abortion and its methods and its risk and consequences, but some people live in ignorance and sometimes they take this decision for lack of information.

Types of Abortions

Concept
What is the abortion means? Practically the abortion is the termination of pregnancy, in a period when the fetus or embryo cant survive. The abortion can be spontaneously or it can be purposely induced.

Types of Abortions

When the abortion is spontaneously usually called miscarriage, but in general the terms abortion refers the termination of pregnancy of intentional way. The spontaneously abortion can occur when the mother have an accident and suffer a blow, or when there are intrauterine dead of the fetus or embryo, this can occur without intention for part of the mother. But when the abortion is intentional (with mothers consent), the abortionist use different methods to cause the fetus or embryos dead. This methods many times depends of the age of the baby. To continue show the babies development stages and the usually abortion method for this stage. At eight weeks. At eight to nine weeks the eyelids have begun forming and hair appears. By the ninth and tenth weeks the preborn child sucks her thumb, turns somersaults, jumps, can squint to close out light, frown, swallow, and move her tongue. At this early stage of development, suction abortions are preformed using a smaller

Types of Abortions

tube, requiring little dilation of the cervix. This is called Menstrual extraction. However, if all the fetal remains are not removed, infection results, requiring full dilation of the cervix and a scraping out of the womb. Suction. This is the most common method of abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. General or local anesthesia is given to the mother and the cervix is quickly dilated. The abortionist first paralyzes the cervix (womb opening). He then inserts a hollow plastic tube with a knife-like tip into the uterus. The tube is connected to a powerful pump with a suction force 29 times more powerful than a home vacuum cleaner. The procedure tears the baby's body into pieces and the hose frequently jerks as pieces of the baby become lodged. The placenta is then cut from the inner wall of the uterus and the scraps are sucked out into a bottle. As the baby head can't pass through the tube, it is introduced into the womb an instrument that compresses the little head and then takes it out.

Types of Abortions

Dilatation or Curettage. This method is similar to the suction method with the added insertion of a hook shaped knife (curette) which cuts the baby into pieces. The pieces are scraped out through the cervix and discarded. This method is uncommon today and used during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.

At twelve weeks. By the end of the third month all arteries are present, including the coronary vessels of the heart. Blood is circulating through these vessels to all body parts. The heart beat ranges during this fetal period from 110 to 160 beats per minute. All blood cells are produced by the liver and spleen, a job soon taken over by the bone marrow. White blood cells, important for immunity, are formed in the lymph nodes and thymus. Vocal chords are complete, and the child can and does sometimes cry (silently). The brain is fully formed, and the child can feel pain. The fetus may even

Types of Abortions

suck his thumb. The eyelids now cover the eyes, ad will remain shut until the seventh month to protect the delicate optical never fibers. At 14 weeks Muscles lengthen and become organized. The mother will soon start feeling the first flutters of the baby kicking and moving inside. At 15 weeks The fetus has an adults taste buds and may be able to savor the mothers meals. At 16 weeks Five and a half inches tall and only six ounces in weight, eyebrows, eyelashes and fine hair appear. The child can grasp with his hands, kick or even somersault. At eighteen weeks The fetus is now about 5 inches long. The child blinks, grasps, and moves her mouth. Hair grows on the head and body. At 20 weeks The child can hear and recognize

mothers voice. Though still small and fragile, the baby is growing rapidly and could possibly survive if born at this stage. Fingernails and fingerprints appear. Sex organs are visible. Using an ultrasound device, the doctor can tell if the child is a girl or a boy.

Types of Abortions

Dilation and Evaluation (D&E) This method is used up to 18 weeks gestation. Instead of the loop-shaped knife used in D&C abortions, a pair of forceps is inserted into the womb to grasp part of the fetus. The teeth of the forceps twist and tear the bones of the unborn child. This process is repeated until the fetus is totally dismembered and removed. Usually the spine must be snapped and the skull crushed in order to remove them.

Salt poisoning (saline injection). Used after 16 weeks (four months). The abortionist injects a strong salt solution directly into the amniotic sac (fluid surrounding the baby). The baby breathes and swallows it, is poisoned, struggles, and sometimes convulses. It takes over an hour to kill the baby. The mother delivers the dead or dying baby in a day or two (There have been many cases of these babies being born alive. They are usually left unattended to die. However, a few have survived and later been adopted).

Types of Abortions

Why "candy apple" babies? The corrosive effect of the salt solution often burns and strips away the outer layer of the baby's skin. This exposes the raw, red, glazed-looking subcutaneous layer of tissue. The baby's head sometimes looks like a candy apple. Some have also likened this method to the effect of napalm on innocent war victims. This technique was originally developed in the concentration camps in Nazi Germany.

At six months Seen here at six months, the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. Its tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the childs skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed. The child practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

Prostaglandin Abortions Three forms, two are injected and one is a vaginal suppository. Its first approved use was for "the induction of midtrimester abortion." The hormone produces a violent labor and delivery of whatever size baby the mother carries. If the baby is old enough to survive the trauma of labor, it may be born alive, but is usually too small to survive. In one article, among the complications listed was "live birth!".

Types of Abortions

Hysterotomy. This method is usually used late in pregnancy and is likened to an "early" Caesarian section. The mother's abdomen and uterus are surgically opened and the baby is lifted out. Unfortunately, many of these babies are very much alive when removed. To kill the babies, some abortionists have been known to plunge them into buckets of water or smother them with the placentas. Still others cut the cord while the baby is still inside the uterus depriving the baby of oxygen. At 30 weeks For several months, the umbilical cord has been the babys lifeline to the mother. Nourishment is transferred from the mothers blood. Through the placenta, and into the umbilical cord to the fetus. If the mother ingests any toxic substances, such as drugs or alcohol, the baby receives these as well. At 32 weeks The fetus sleeps 90-95% of the day, and sometimes experiences REM sleep, and indication of dreaming.

Partial Birth Abortion Guide by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the babys legs with forceps. The babys leg is polled out into the birth canal. The abortionist delivers the babys entered body, except for the head. The abortionist jams scissors into the babys skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the skull. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The childs brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.

Types of Abortions

At 40 weeks The baby, now approximately seven and a half pounds, is ready for life outside its mothers womb. At birth the placenta will detach from the side of the uterus and the umbilical cord will cease working as the child takes his first breaths of air. The childs breathing will trigger changes in the structure of the heart and bypass arteries which will force all blood to now travel through the lungs. Other abortions methods. Hormonal contraceptives. (Abortion). Precocious and unnoticed abortion can happen in 50% or more of the menstrua l cycles of

10

Types of Abortions

women who are taking low doses of contraceptives. With the combined tablet, the abortion can happen once every two years. That is, a woman who takes contraceptives or uses injections is aborting in such a percentage. RU-486 A drug that produces an abortion taken after the mother misses her period. Its effect is to block the use of an essential hormonal nutrient by the newly-implanted baby, who then dies, and drops off. Note that RU-486 is not a contraceptive because it does not prevent fertilization or implantation. It is used only after the mother has missed her period and the baby is at least two to three weeks old, with a beating heart (the fetal heart begins to beat when the woman is four days late for her period). It is no longer effective after six or eight weeks. See The Abortion Cocktail article. Read how Methotrexate - one of the drugs contained in RU486 - can cause liver damage, kidney destruction, heart muscle compromise, pulmonary failure, gastrointestinal pathology, and bone marrow suppression. It has also been reported to cause loss of speech function, strokes, and convulsions.

Intrauterine device (Abortion). It is a device of several forms that is placed within the uterus. It does not avoid conception but modifies the internal coating of the uterus in such a form that the developing baby who comes from the Fallopian tube, cannot be implanted and dies, His remains are later eliminated through menstruation.

Causes of abortion
The main problem to cause the abortion is psychological and is fear: Fear for Financial difficulty to raise the child. This is a consequence of lack of confidence in God since the most beautiful and desired for a mother should be her own son. Unfortunately this consumer and false values society we all are living in, has devalued the baby who must come to this world and with its rationalism has created a false fear. Let us see a great example: Kay James, a Public Relations Officer for PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT in the United States speaks of a terribly poor black woman, who was ditched by her alcoholic husband, who had his fourth baby on a table. "I was that baby", says Mrs. James who is graduated at the University and mother of 3 children. Fear to what people or parents might think or say. (When getting pregnant during the engagement). Actually, human concepts and reasoning, including those of parents or third parties must not prevent a creature from coming to this world. Life is given by God and God is above all concept. "I was going to be the seventh son and my mother was determined not to let to me be born. Then something wonderful happened. My aunt made her change her mind and that's why I could be born. It could be said that I am a miracle ". Arthur Rubenstein, pianist. Fear to the 9 months of pregnancy and to the pain during the labor. Actually, the greatest mission of every woman, is to be mother and to bring children to the world. If animals that are irrational do not deny this right, Why is the woman going to be scared, if it is a natural function that corresponds to her feminine nature? Health problems. Let's remember Beethoven's case, the great musician who astonished with his divine music, and who is still listened by those who want to give food and breath to their soul; His mother was diagnosed with tuberculosis and his father was alcoholic.

Types of Abortions

Rape. Rape is a horrible abuse with traumatic effects for many of its victims. For a woman who carries in her entrails a creature fruit of a rape is not helpful at all, to know that pregnancy rarely happens in these cases. Nevertheless, Should we make an innocent creature pay for his father's crime? A raped woman who wrote anonymously to a magazine, said that she had an appointment to be done an abortion but canceled it. "I knew that what I had in my entrails was my baby. Now I have a daughter, a precious girl. I thank God daily for not to have aborted". Hormonal contraceptives. A Woman who takes either tablets, injections or implants, has certainly determined not to have a child and if she gets pregnant then she feels frustrated in her intentions and often she resorts to abortion. These contraceptives are one of the main causes of abortion nowadays.

Types of Abortions

Abortion risks and consequences

A woman chooses abortion because she is not ready to accept the consequences of her pregnancy, whether it involves single motherhood, the exposure of her sexual activity, or anger of boyfriend or parents. But abortion also has serious and longlasting consequences. Such as: Physical risks Lets thinks about what happens during a surgical abortion. First, the doctor must force the cervix to open enough to allow the instruments to enter the uterus. This forced opening may damage the cervical muscle, especially in teens, whose organs are less mature, or perhaps in women who have never given birth. A damaged cervix may have difficulty remaining properly closed during a later pregnancy, increasing the risk of miscarriage and premature birth. Then the doctor reaches into the uterus with powerful suction and/or sharp instruments to remove the developing baby. The baby is securely attached to the uterine wall, by way of the placenta, where nutrients and oxygen are absorbed form the mother. The removal of the baby may damage the uterine lining, leaving scar tissue. The more abortions a woman has had, the more scar tissue she is likely to have, possibly affection the development of the placenta of future children trying to imbed themselves in the uterine wall. If scar tissue partially blocks the opening from the fallopian tube into the uterus, the chance of a tubal pregnancy is increased. Changes are occurring in the breasts during pregnancy as well, preparing to produce milk for the newborn. These changes are abnormally interrupted by an abortion. The following list includes some of the documented risk and consequences of abortion: A major study found that 48% of women who aborted their first pregnancies one live birth. Among teenagers who aborted their first pregnancy, 66% experienced miscarriage or premature birth of their second child. Premature delivery, abnormal placental development and other labor complications, which can all be caused by abortion damage to the uterus, are the leading causes of handicaps in newborns. experienced abortion-related complications in later pregnancies. Women in that group experienced 2.3 miscarriages for every

14

Types of Abortions

Abortion is significantly related to an increased risk of subsequent ectopic (tubal) pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies, in turn, are life threatening and may result in reduced fertility. The risk of breast cancer almost doubles after one abortion, and rises even further with two or more abortions.

Psychological risks God gives mothers a maternal instinct to nurture and protect their children. Abortion clearly goes directly against that natural inclination. Dr Julius Fogel, psychiatrist and abortionist states: She destroys a pregnancy, she is destroying herself. There is no way it can be innocuous I know that as a psychiatrist. Many women may have an extended period of denial, when they are repressing their feeling regarding the abortion. These repressed feelings may cause psychosomatic illnesses and psychiatric or behavioral symptoms in other areas of her life. As a result, some counselors report that unacknowledged post-abortion distress is actually the underlying cause for the pain that brought them to seek therapy. Abortion may be experienced as a traumatic event for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is physically painful and can be perceived as sexually intrusive, similar to rape. If the abortion is forced or coerced (by either male partners or parents) it is an unwanted violation of her body. Even when the woman has chosen abortion herself because of compelling reasons, she may still perceive abortion as the violent killing of her own child, bringing about significant guilt feelings in addition to the fear, pain, and anxiety surrounding the abortion. When a woman experiences trauma, her fight or flight defense mechanism is aroused, to mobilize her energy to deal with the event. If the trauma is severe, the defense mechanism can be overwhelmed by the trauma, and the person feels intense fear, a feeling of helplessness and loss of control. The fight or flight mechanism can be over- stimulated, or hyper-aroused, which causes the components of the defense mechanism to become disorganized, disconnected from present circumstances, and take on a life of their own, resulting in abnormal behavior and major personality disorders. This situation is referred to as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. When the causative trauma is abortion, it is referred to as Post Abortion Syndrome. As an example of this disconnection of

15

Types of Abortions

mental functions, some PTSD victims may experience intense emotion but without clear memory of the event; others may remember every detail but without emotion; still others may re-experience both the event and the emotions in intrusive and overwhelming flashback experiences. The following list includes some additional documented risks and consequences of abortion: A 5 year retrospective study in two Canadian provinces found significantly greater use of medical and psychiatric services among aborted women. 25% of aborted women made visits to psychiatrists as compared to 3% of the control group. Alcohol abuse: Abortion is significantly linked with a two fold increased risk of alcohol abuse among women. (14) Abortion followed by alcohol abuse is linked to violent behavior, divorce or separation, auto accidents, and job loss. Child neglect or abuse: Abortion is linked with increased depression, violent behavior, alcohol and drug abuse, replacement pregnancies, and reduced maternal bonding with children born subsequently. These factors are closely associated with child abuse and would appear to confirm individual clinical assessments linking post-abortion trauma with subsequent child abuse

Different point of view about abortion

Women's rights arguments in favor of abortion Here are some of the women's rights arguments in favor of abortion: women have a moral right to decide what to do with their bodies the right to abortion is vital for gender equality the right to abortion is vital for individual women to achieve their full potential banning abortion puts women at risk by forcing them to use illegal abortionists the right to abortion should be part of a portfolio of pregnancy rights that enables women to make a truly free choice whether to end a pregnancy This argument reminds us that even in the abortion debate, we should regard the woman as a person and not just as a container for the fetus. We should therefore give great consideration to her rights and needs as well as those of the unborn. Pro-choice women's rights activists do not take a casual or callous attitude to the fetus; the opposite is usually true, and most of them acknowledge that choosing an abortion is usually a case of choosing the least bad of several bad courses of action. Pro-life arguments (against abortion) Many people see the fetus as a distinct human being with its own right. They believe abortion cannot be justified because it is killing an innocent human being. Arguments include: Every child is a precious and unique gift from God. We dont have right to destroy them. Defenseless baby needs special protection since it cannot stand up for its own rights The rights of the unborn child are equal to those of her mother The embryo is human from conception with its own DNA. Left alone, it will develop into a person.

17

Types of Abortions

Children with physical or learning disabilities can lead full and rewarding lives. Aborting people because of disability is like telling disabled people that they are worthless Abortion is murder the deliberate taking of a human life Doctors and nurses promised to save life, not destroy it. Abortion breaks the Hippocratic Oath The fetus can feel pain and has intelligence The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child says that children need protection both before and after birth Unwanted babies could be adopted. Many childless couples are desperate to adopt.

Statics about of abortion

What percentages of people on Earth live in a country where abortion is legal? According to the New York-based Centre for Reproductive Rights, over 60% of the world's 6.5 billion people now live in countries where abortion is generally allowed. Just a quarter live in states where it is generally banned.

18

Types of Abortions

How many abortions take place each year, and how many of them are illegal? Of a total of 46m abortions thought to be carried out each year (more than one in four pregnancies are terminated), some 20m are illegal, resulting in the death of around 70,000 women a year, according to the World Health Organization. Which country has the highest rate of abortions? Although China reports 7m abortions a year (the real figure is much higher), it does not have the world's highest rate. That place is held by Romania, where some three-quarters of pregnancies are terminated (the same ratio as in New York City and Shanghai). Russia, the first country to allow abortion (in 1920), comes second with two in three pregnancies terminated. Rates are high across the former Soviet bloc, with the termination of more than one in two pregnancies in most countries. What is the rate of abortion in Western countries? In the United States, Australia, Canada, Britain and most of the rest of Western Europe, around 15-25% of pregnancies are terminated. In 2008, worldwide there were approximately 115,000 abortions done per day.[84] In 2008, approximately 83% of all abortions were performed in developing countries and 17% occurred in developed countries. States may regulate abortion, such as requiring a 24-hour waiting period and parental consent for minors. Abortion clinics often fail to comply with the health standards of surgical facilities, and States can require compliance (but often do not, resulting in discomfort and harm to the victims of abortion). Many abortionists lack hospital admitting privileges at nearby facilities, so women having complications must go on their own to emergency rooms to see physicians unfamiliar with what actually happened. For any other operation the cost of treating complications is included in the cost of the operation, but for abortions the abortion clinics take their money and typically do not pay for the care of complications. The more pro-abortion the State regulations are, the larger the number of abortion clinics it will have. Arizona, though a pro-life State, has a regulatory system that results in twelve abortion clinics operating within its borders. In contrast, Mississippi has only one abortion clinic, and Missouri has only two.

Conclusion
There are many point of view about abortion: some people are in favor and other against, depend of our own moral values, and our own ideas decide if its good or bad practicing the abortion. Practicing the abortion bring bad consequences, both physic and psychological in mothers. The abortion methods are very painful, both mothers and unborn babies. Causes of abortion are diverse, such as economics problems, rape and fear of changes from pregnancy or labor.

Suggestions
The government shouldnt legalizer the abortion in our country, because is a

murder.
The women that not want to have babies may give them in adoption, and

dont take the decision of abortion. Give more information about abortion methods to women, its causes, risk and consequences. Provide more information of abortion, its causes, risk and consequences to women, and help them if they have had an abortion (spontaneously or intentional) Make awareness in teens to avoid having sex in early age and thus avoid unwanted pregnancy and prevent future abortion.
