STM 1 electrical access type 1.0-2.3 (female) STM 1 optical access type SC Service E1 access type 1.0-2.3 (female) Service V11 access type RJ 45 ETH Access Network type RJ45 AGC Measurement point (on ODU) access type BNC (female)

Tests Bench Figure

General Layout for Link Test The above figure is an example of the general layout of the instruments (BER Test) and portable PC (Local Craft Terminal) in the stations. If you need to use an external power supply for the Laptop, it is recommended to connect first the serial cable and then the power supply cable. Doing this the other way round could be dangerous, because the power supply unit for the laptop normally contains an autotransformer, and the difference of ground potential could damage the serial port of the PC and (or) the serial interface of the IDU.

Tx Mod Inverted Spectrum (only if BB-Modem is connected to ODU Narrowband) This parameter inverts the transmission spectrum of the modem and it must be properly set for the Narrowband ODUs, in accordance to what reported in the hardware manual. In case of wrong configuration of the parameter, the traffic is interrupted. The operator can choose one of the two values: Inverted and Not Inverted. (Normally is the Not Inverted selection). XPIC Status It indicates the status of XPIC canceller: ON or OFF (on in case of Co-channel system) XPIC This parameter is meaningful only for co-channel systems. It allows cancelling the residual of the orthogonal. The operator can choose between one of the two values: ON (canceller running, manual operation) and Forced OFF (canceller disabled). Note that the allowing of field for IF power and Tx Spectrum Inversion depend to the system SVR and system type. The allowing of Co-Channel is allowing only in case of Co-Channel configuration. 4.9. Set the ODU configuration data value. 4.9.1. Frequency mode and Tx / Rx frequencies. Once the IF level is adjusted, it is possible to set the Tx / Rx frequency and power settings. In order to set the frequency, it is necessary to select in which frequency mode the link will work: Continuous mode or Freq Plan mode. In the Continuous mode the frequency value are entered directly in KHz. In the Freq Plan mode enter the Freq Plan value (Channel ID), preset the values of the first channel ID and last channel ID (see the OMN manual for more info).

Note that the Frequency Plan modality, allows determining the transmission frequency with the number ID of the channel. To use this modality, it is necessary to define the frequency plan intended to be used. In particular, it is necessary to specify the identifier (numeric) of the first ID and last ID channel intended to be used, the frequency transmission of the first channel and the spacing among the different channels. Note that, for Frequency RF value, set the proper value, in accordance to the RF bandwidth of ODU and system Config. The RF bandwidth depends to the type of ODU and the Modulation Type (selected from the system config data (32 or 128). For more info see the UMN Manual in the electrical characteristics chapter. For the Frequency setting, select from the main Status and configuration menu, the ODU configure field. According with the frequency plan select in which frequency mode will work the link, continuous mode or Freq Plan mode.

On the same menu, select the channel spacing according with the planning. Note that this field applies the spacing filter in the ODU but not all the bandwidth. For a properly values refer to the following reference value (except other condition depending to the frequency planning): 28000 Khz for system at one STM-1 and 128 TCM modulation value 55000 Khz for system at one STM-1 and 32 TCM modulation value 56000 Khz for system at two STM-1 and 128 TCM modulation value.

All other value depends to the Frequency planning for network. In order to execute the properly settings for channel spacing, it is necessary proceed as follows before (in case the frequency mode are in Continuous): 1. 2. 3. Enable the Freq Plan Activation On; Set the parameters of the frequency plan: Freq Ch. #1, First Channel ID and Last Channel ID; Disable the Freq Plan Activation Off;

Note that if any data for Tx Freq. Plan Parameter are set the system dont accept the related data for Channel spacing setting. Once described the frequency plan, in order to transmit on a given channel, it is sufficient to write the identifier of the chosen channel into the RF Channel ID field.

Set the Frequency parameter for all ODU Note that for Narrowband ODU the frequency setting is not applicable, the ODU is with a fixed frequency value.

4.9.3. Command setting and cable compensation. After the all ODU setting verify that all HW setting are OK and start the cable compensation command. From the main ODU Configure field, refer to the command group settings. To start the Cable compensation phase (in manual mode) select: a. b. c. d. e. from field Comp IF Cable Mode in manual from field Start Comp IF Cable select ON Waiting until the end of operation Repeat the same step for all ODUs Return to the Cable Mode in Automatic

Comp IF Cable Mode It allows selecting one of the two possible management strategies: Auto (default) or Manual. After an ODU setting or replacement, the procedure for cable compensation must be activated to calculate the correct value of the attenuation (default value stored in ODU is 31 dB), depending on the length of IF cable and on the IF TX power level. In Auto mode, the cable compensation is automatically activated when one of these two conditions occurs: ODU is switched on The IF TX power level is changed In Manual mode, the cable compensation is activated acting on the related activation command. Start Compensation IF Cable It allows to manually forcing the procedure for the cable compensation. It is visible and can be activated only by SW. During the cable compensation procedure, the red indication Comp Cable Running appears. If the compensation procedure ends successfully, the red indication End Comp Cable appears for some seconds. If the compensation procedure ends unsuccessfully, the Cable Comp out of Range indication appears. The ODU Status & Configuration window displays also the wording ODU Power-up procedure: Completed (at the end of the ODU initialisation) or ODU Power-up Procedure: Running (during the initialisation of ODU).

4.11.3. Configuration of Co-Channel operation The SRA 4 radio equipment allows setting the co-channel operation for the system, only for System Type (2+0). This functionality is supported only by Co-channel Wideband ODU. It is possible to configure each BB-Modem unit to operate with a given polarization at RF frequency: one of the two ODUs will be configured as master sync (synchronization source), while the other ODU will be configured as slave sync (the synchronization source is taken by the other ODU). In case of co-channel configuration, the transmission frequencies of the two ODUs must be the same (F_TX_ODU1=F_TX_ODU2; F_RX_ODU1=F_RX_ODU2). The equipments with (1+1) FD System Type and enabled co-channel functionality do not protect against the selective fading. The operator must configure one of the two BB-Modem units with a given polarization: the other unit will automatically configured with the orthogonal polarization. A configuration change from alternate polarization to co-channel polarization (in the System Types which support this functionality) is refused if: at least one of the two ODUs is a Narrowband ODU; at least one of the two ODUs does not support the co-channel operation.

It is possible to select the IF/RF synchronization between the ODUs among: ODU 1 (connected to the upper BB-modem card) master, ODU 2 slave; ODU 2 (connected to the lower BB-modem card) master, ODU 1 slave;

Pressing the Co-Channel button in the Equipment Status & Configuration window, the following Co-Channel window opens, for the configuration of the operating parameters.

Note that in case of Co-Channel system type, is required a properly IDU cabling connection and ODUs interconnection cable Kit. For more detail refer to UMN Manual. 4.12. Configuration of the network parameters. The new IDU coming from factory doesnt have any project specified IP address. A default address was set from factory, this address is 10.10.10.10 Independently of the local IP Address of equipment, the local connection using the Localne.map file (using the dial-up modem connection) supply the access in all systems; this access is only a local access. After the activation of system is suitable set a specific IP address, in order to manage the equipment from remote station (after the alignment). In a stand-alone link scenario it is not necessary to define a complete IP planning, but is suitable to set only two valid IP addresses: Use this Net mask on both radios 255.255.255.0 (same value for both stations) Use this IP address 150.166.X.Y Suggested IP Address for stands alone Link: Station A IP Address Net Mask 150.166.16.2 255.255.255.0 Station B 150.166.8.4 255.255.255.0

The above mentioned rules are only indicative and only for stand alone link, for different rule refer to the IP plan of project. In case of stand alone link (without IP network Plan), dont connect any Network cables or other network the equipments (Switch, Hub, Router etc). Note that never set these IP addresses: 0.x.x.x (network address = 0) 127.x.x.x (addresses reserved to loopback) 192.168.255.x (network addresses 192.168.255) Y.x.x.x con 224<= Y<= 254 (network addresses of D and E classes) 255.x.x.x for each subnetwork, the address with all 1 or all 0

Start with the antenna adjustment following the indication reported in to the installation information on the antenna supplier (Andrew, Comelit etc) After the alignment verify with the Prx Value check (from LCT SW) and verify that the system is under the project specification. Remember this consideration: a. b. c. The VAGC range is between -3.4 V and 1.2 V (typical values) for PRX values between -30 dBm and -75 dBm, according to a linear law with rate of about 0.5 V for 10 dB. Consider the difference between the nominal value and guaranteed for Transmission Power (See UMN Manual). The accuracy of Prx value depends to the ODU type, referrer to the UMN Manual for the Prx value accuracy.

5.

Commissioning Phase

The Lineup test is a system control in order to verify if all configuration and functionality of equipment working properly. Is important check all suggested test before the commissioning. We divide this test in local check and hop check. The local check is fundamentally the control of all setting and local functionality of system (ex. Local Loop). The hop check is the control of the Link functionality. For Line up test use the same testing reported in the Field commissioning Test Sheets. This chapter is refers to the properly mode to fill and apply the commissioning report model. Note that from the release 5 of the above mentioned document, the documents are divided in 3 parts: Common Part; this document report all common specification independently of the system type (System Setup, HW Outdoor inventory, Network Parameter etc). Add for system up to 1+1; this document report the configuration data, Local test and hop test for system up to 1+1 (1+0, 2x(1+0), 1+1). Add for system up to N+1; this document report the configuration data, Local test and hop test for system up to N+1 (2+1, 3+1) All documents are in word format with field form to fit them. Separate support documents are produced to guide the operator for Lineup and commissioning (installation check list and Antenna alignment procedure guideline).

For the Alarm unit replacement procedure, verify before to start this measure, if the system is in the SVR 4.5 or higher, if the related Plug In SW are matching with the system SVR and if the Alarm controller unit support this feature. If the system support this functionality operate with the following procedure: Pressing the Maintenance push-button in the Equipment Status & Configuration window, the Maintenance window opens, where the operator can execute the procedure for the replacing of the alarm unit without traffic loss. In order that this functionality is supported, it is necessary that at least a BB-modem unit is of the HW version that supports this procedure and that this BB-modem unit is supplied (Vpow connector connected to power supply). Other wise, the Start push-button will remain inactive and the extraction of the alarm unit will cause the switching off of the whole IDU and of the ODUs. If this functionality is supported, push-buttons Key in Plug-in Windows Press the Start push-button and verify that Switch Status changes from Open to Closed. Extract the hardware key from the alarm unit Extract the front panel from the unit Re-Insert the alarm unit Install the front panel Insert the hardware key. All the steps must be completed within 3 minutes. Otherwise, the IDU unit, after 3 minutes, switches off.

5.1.3.4. Rx Power Value At the end of alignment phase, check the received power level from main menu Measurements > View field.

Remember that: Theoretical Nominal Received Signal: insert the value calculated from the Path calculation (if available). Readed Received Power: insert the value showed from the LCT SW. The values of Prx are applicable only in case of normal propagation condition, without interference / fading and with the MW link in complete path clearance. The value showed on PC has a accuracy at about 3 dB, but is necessary considering same a tolerance for Ptx Value. Refer to the UMN manual for more indication. For system 1+1 FD the Rx value must be the same (within the equipment tolerance, indicate in the field test sheets). For system 1+1 HSTBY with unbalanced Mounting Kit the PRx value for ODU 2 (Stand-By Channel) must be 10 12 dB lower than the ODU 1 (Main) (refer to the mounting frame data sheet). 5.1.4.3. ATPC Functional Test Purpose of this test is checking the functionality of ATPC Feature. Being a system split, the measure it is feasible with some limitations, it is possible only a functional test. In order to perform a properly ATPC function the link must be installed in laboratory.

SRA 4 equipment supports the ATPC (Automatic Transmit Power Control) function both in HSBY systems and in FD systems. All the processing is executed by the FPGA present on the BB-Modem. The ATPC information is exchanged between the far ends via byte S(2,2). Note that the ATPC function has a different implementation between Narrowband ODU and Wideband ODU. Refer to the UMN and OMN manual for more specification. Pmin and ATPC Range values are set in such a way to respect the hardware range of the transmission power values for ODU. The control on these values is executed by ODU that refuses the settings if they are not correct. The limitations that must be respected are: Pmin + ATPC_Range less or equal to TX Power max Pmin TX Power min In order to verify the ATPC feature set in the Tx Power Setting field the ATPC Management value in Enabled status. Verify (with a properly value of ATPC Threshold and P-min Start value) if the value of Prx signal change related to the threshold value. Return to the value of P-min Start with the nominal Tx power and set the ATPC Management in Disabled status. Verify that the Prx value return with a nominal value. Note that the Prx value is related to Local Station but the Ptx setting must be change in the remote station. For more information related the ATPC function refer to the UNM and OMN Manual. At the end of test set the ATPC status related to the project specification.

Test Instrument mode.

Use the test bench showed in above figure. Set the SDH BER Test instrument with the basic setting parameter for a STM 1 frame BER Test. Connect a BER meter on the main radio channel under test. The test should be done with no errors during a recording time of 2 or 3 hours (suggested short term time for reserve or stand-by channel) and minimal 12 hours (suggested long term time for working or main channel) for the long term evaluation, the result should be better than 10-10. LCT or Netviewer mode.

With the LCT engine 6.0 or Higher (using the properly plug in SW for SRA 4 SVR 4.5 or higher), is possible start a measure of performance for long period time and showing the related result in a txt format files. The Commissioning Report application allows displaying and saving to file the report of the measures of the long period performances. The measures of the long period performances are generally enabled and collected for maintenance purposes during the execution of commissioning tests. The long period performances are made by a set of 192 consecutive quarter intervals of performance monitoring (performance G.821/G.826 like, RSPI, RPS). The measures of the long period performances are stored in the non volatile memory of the Controller of the NE. The measures of the long period performances are collected using a XML file in compressed format, which is transferred via FTP when the request arrives from LCT. To start the test following this two step: a. b. Start the Long PM Recording from the specified test menu from the SW application At the end of the PM Recording apply the Functionality of Commissioning report of system.

Long PM Recording Pressing the Testing push-buttons in the Equipment Status & Configuration window, the Testing window opens. Pressing the Long PM Recording field.

On SRA4 there is a command that allows enabling/disabling the recording of the long period performances (by default, this recording is disabled). To define the time window for the recording, it is necessary to configure: Recording Type, defines the the relevant position of the time window: From Start Time o Continuous Mode: Note that the NE Controller resets the content of the long period performance records: at start-up; after a manual reset command; in correspondence of Start Time (start of the data recording) The window displays a counter that shows how many 15 minutes intervals have been already recorded (Expired Quarters field).

The operator, after the configuration of all the recording parameters, can enable it clicking twice on the Long Period PM Recording field: the following Field Editing window opens. The Get PM Recorded File push-button opens the PMCommReport window for the recording of the long period performance file.

Commissioning report
The procedure for the execution of the Commissioning Report is the following one: Run from the plug-in of NE the Commissioning Report tool. The PmCommReport window opens. Click on Browse and specify the name of the file and the relevant path where save the report.

Click on Start to transfer via FTP the measures of the long period performances stored into the NE; if a file with the same name already exists in the folder, a confirmation for overwriting the existing file is required. It is always possible anytime to stop the transfer of the long period performance measures and close the Commissioning Report tool clicking on Close. During the transfer, the Start and Show push-buttons are inactive. At the end of the transfer, in the PmCommReport window, the Show push-button becomes active. To analyze the system performance is also possible start a recording using the internal counter of system. Note that this feature are suggested from Netviewer system, because the recording file is write on the PC used for the test. The event counters and parameters monitored by the equipment are divided into 4 classes: Quality event counters (radio and tributary; applied to each STM-1) Unavailability event counters (radio and tributary; applied to each STM-1) RSPI parameters (radio only; applied to each transceiver) RPS event counters (radio only; applied to each switching.

The Radio quality event counters and radio unavailability event counters are measured in a way in line with ITU-T G.826 Recommendation. In any case refer to the UMN, OMN of related system SVR and OMN LCT engine manual for more detailed information and settings.

Recording of the G.821/G.826 performances referred to quarter intervals For the NE that support it, it is available the function for the recording on file of the G.821/G.826 performances referred to the quarter intervals. The measurements of G.821/G.826 performances referred to quarter intervals that can be recorded on a file changes according to the radio equipment type. The G.821/G.826 performances recorded on file are displayed through a table in Microsoft Excel. The Controller of a NE keeps in memory the G.821/G.826 performance data of the last 4 hours (16 quarter intervals). The storing of the intervals is continue and cyclic; once reached the maximum size of 16 intervals, the storing of a new interval causes the deletion of the oldest interval. The procedure for the G.821/G.826 performance recording on file is the following one: Run, from the NE plug-in, the performance recording application. The window for the management of the performance recording to file opens Set the recording parameters: In the FileName entry-box of the Output field, specify the destination file where recording the performance data, with the indication of the absolute path.

After the execution of the Start command, the collection of the performance starts, with displaying of the log file (Log field) and deactivation of the configuration fields and of the Close push-button.

For a complete quality analysis is suitable operate from the Supervision Network control center (Netviewer system). Note that to start a recording from SW is necessary a permanent connection with the PC. Its also possible from SW to retrieve the status of Link quality in the last 4 Hours (15 minutes step) or in the last 4 day (day by day). In this case the control from equipment is permanent. In this case apply only the Performance Monitoring View windows. Selecting View in Performance menu, the Performance Monitoring View window.

View the field RST Performance View: RX Chain - Radio Side STM-1 (Quarter or Day) Pressing a Quarter (or Day) related to the radio side in the Performance Monitoring View window, the RST Performance View: RX Chain - Radio Side STM-1 (Quarter or Day) window opens, corresponding to the selected BB-Modem and stream (STM-1 #1 or STM-1 #2). The performance relevant to the current time measure quarter or day are into the last row of the table. At the beginning of a new measuring intervals, the measurements slides of one position from the bottom towards up, replacing row by row the data relevant to the previous intervals. This counter are a internal recording to the system, any PC connection are required for recording time.

The BER test with using the LCT SW is in alternative to the test instrument test. In any case the use of test instrument is suitable for local testing of payload signal.

Add On for N+1 system

The basic flow operation descript above are applicable for all system type. In any case repeat the entire above mentioned test for all active channels. Same exception is required for N+1 system, some feature and PC windows are different; consider the following main basic consideration: a. Changing name of the BB Modem unit and ODU reference

See the following table: System 1+1 or 2x(1+1) BB / ODU 1 BB / ODU 2 BB / ODU 3 BB / ODU 4 System N+1 BB / ODU Stand By BB / ODU 1 BB / ODU 2 BB / ODU 3

Switching criteria

For N+1 (more than 1+1) system the switching criteria are related to the Alarm Criteria forcing on the Stand-by channel. Select a Forcing Criteria for each Channel (one by one) and verify that after the switch operation the STM-1 signal are connected to the remote station. For criteria switching information refer to the UMN and OMN manual.

In order to check the properly switching operation, apply the Connect the PC to the system in Station A and open the NE for both stations. From the Protection Menu, check that for both stations the Local Ch on Stby Rx are in Free Status Connect the BER Test instrument on the STM 1 channel under test (ex. Ch1) (on the remote station apply a HW loop on the channel under test), and verify that the STM 1 signal are ok. On the Switch Criteria Forcing, apply the forcing criteria for both stations. Check on the BER Test Instrument that the STM 1 channel is OK. On the main Protection windows, verify that for both stations the Local Ch on Stby Rx are in Ch1 Status To verify if the system is in standby channel, switch OFF the ODU PSU for the channel under test and verify that the STM 1 channel is OK (on the BER Test Instrument). Switch ON the ODU PSU, and waiting that the ODU are on line and the Cable compensation are finished On the Switch Criteria Forcing, apply the forcing criteria for both stations in None position. Repeat the same test for all channel (Ch 2 and if applicable Ch. 3).
