Dear Parents and Students,

THIS WEEK IN BLAZE
This week we had two emergency fire drills: the one on Tuesday was a
planned practice but Thursday’s was unplanned and the result of a Director’s Note
faulty smoke detector. I was very pleased and impressed with the
behavior of both students and adults, and on both occasions we Notices & Reminders
registered all IST students, employees and visitors effectively and
efficiently. We did note, however, that some parents were unaware of Earth Week 2009
what to do in the event of a school fire alarm and consequently I
would like to share the basic procedures with you. Student Council

U14 Boys Basketball Success !

ISTV vs. Rego (Apr 9) -- By Tomson Chen

Wonderful day for IST as they triumphed 43-28. The game was tight at first, with little goals being conceded. The
first quarter ended with IST leading a mere 6 points, thanks to beautiful driving and lay-ups from JoongHun. And new
players were introduced into the game, the score was still tight, but Rego slowly advanced point by point, though still
IST's defense was strong. After the first half, with Young Jin's accurate three pointers, DongBum and Chang's great
rebounds Ist started leading with more points. But Rego did not give up as they managed to bag in over 10 points in
the last two quarters.
However, it was IST's day in the end, thanks to five goals each from Young Jin and JoongHun. Rego will be looking
for revenge next Thursday as IST and Rego clash once more, thought IST wants to keep it's perfect win record.

This Week at the Library and Information Literacy Center

We continue to celebrate Poetry Month! Have you seen the Poetry in Your
Pocket posters around the school? There are a variety of poems in the pockets of
the notices. Start looking so you have just the right poem in your pocket on 30
April. Feel free to take a poem, read it and put it back. If you can read it and un-
derstand it, and you really like it, keep it, but please take only one poem out at a
time.

Elementary Highlights
We have created a category for poetry on the visual tab of the online catalog.
Navigate to the Elementary Poetry and have fun with the poetry links. We have
especially liked www.shelsilverstein.com, and we have been reading his poetry during
our library sessions (Pre-K, Kindergarten, grades 2 to 4) this week. Grade 2 and grade 3 have been using
the visual catalog to locate books and online resources for their units of inquiry: simple machines and
weather, respectively. Have a great weekend. Spend it reading poetry!

Secondary Highlights
Grade 10 Math students are enhancing their geometry inquiries with Geometer's Sketchpad® (GSP)
with a series of activities to explore a number of geometrical, interactive programs. GSP allows students to
dovetail their hand drawings with electronic means, and students are able to test conjectures and theo-
ries.

Grade 8 students are embarking on an environmental, interdisciplinary inquiry unit involving science,
humanities, and language B by using our online, subscription resources: ABC-CLIO Issues, Opposing View-
points, Facts on File Science databases and a note taking tool called Noodletools.

Grade 8 Language A students have added reviews of recommended Gothic reads to the Library Online
Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

Infant Joy -- William Blake

I am but two days old."
"What shall I call thee?'
"I happy am,
Joy is my name."

Sweet joy but two days old,
Sweet joy I call thee;
Thou dost smile,
I sing the while--
Sweet joy befall thee!"
