Reflection 2

Describe Teamwork is on the increase in industry to formulate and solve problems. Teamwork forces individuals to learn and practice collective decision making and collaboration (Fogler, LeBlanc, 2008 pg. 25).Working in a team is very important as we will be required to do this once we are working, because teams have proven to be a good way of improving the effectiveness of organisations (Williams and McWilliams, 2010). For the assignment on Disney, we did not have a formal method to choose what parts we were going to research. We read the assignment as a whole then expressed to the group what part that we wanted to research. If there were no objections, the particular part we chose would be the one we completed individually. The practice case coffee, coffee, coffee was done in similar fashion, where we chose the parts we wanted to complete individually. The practice case on coffee had little or no formalised allocation of team roles. So, there was no real difference in the approach in how our group allocated team roles and task from the practice case to the real assignment. Team leader is the management of a group of people brought together to work to achieve a common goal (Wisegeek, n.d.). The team leader was chosen as a group. We chose the most vocal member of the group and who would keep the team on track. While doing the coffee practice case, Shane was the most verbal team member giving his ideas and input. As a team we chose Shane, as he was the most vocal and fitted the description of team leader. Shane also volunteered to be the team leader. Interpret As a whole I thought our team worked satisfactorily during the course of the assignment. Everybody had a team role and completed their research part, as well as their own PowerPoint slides for the presentation. There was no major problem within the team. The only difficultly that we had within our group, was that some of the team members completed their research part and PowerPoint slides late (a few days late). This would mean our assignment completion was slow and that we had less time to practice our oral presentation as a group. Evaluate I would evaluate myself as a good team member. I submitted my individual research part and my Powerpoint slides on the due date which the team leader allocated. I tried to my best to help other team members if they were having difficulty in completing a task. I attended all the team meetings on time and participated in the discussions. I have learnt in team work that groups have limitations. Individuals who do not wish to participate as full and effective members of their team can rarely be forced to do so. The remaining team members are forced to either accept that their team will produce a poor output, or to do all of the work themselves so that the quality of the teams output will be protected (UHH, n.d.). Plan In assignment 3b, I will be open to the idea to have a different team role within the team, such as the leader. In the next assignment, there will be a more emphasis on the due date in which to complete the parts of the assignment. This will insure a smoother progression of the assignment and much more time to proof read the assignment and practice the oral presentation.
