Executive Director Full Time Term Position (Maternal Leave)

The mandate of the Aboriginal Head Start Program is to foster the spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of each child, and foster a desire in each child for life-long learning. We are seeking an Executive Director to implement and administer our policies and procedures and fulfill our vision and mission. The Executive Director supports parents and guardians as the primary caregivers of their children, making sure parents/ caregivers play a key role in the planning, development, operation and evaluation of the program. In addition, the position ensures the local Aboriginal community is involved in the planning, development, operation and evaluation of the Head Start program, and makes sure that our initiative works with, and is supported by other community programs and services. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate, in addition to sharing our values and principles, will have the knowledge and experience acquired by working with Aboriginal children and parents in the area of early childhood development and education; knowledge of Makonsag Head Start Initiative; knowledge of Aboriginal culture(s). Experience in planning, managing, instructing, and coordinating a not-for-profit organization, and/or Aboriginal programs for communities, and/or a day care or comparable program is required to ensure the human and financial resources are used in the best way possible to produce positive outcomes, and experiences for Aboriginal children, parents, families and communities. You are action-oriented and possess an impeccable personal ethic, supported by a Diploma or Degree in business administration and/or program management, or equivalent training and experience. A diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is preferred, or a Teaching Certificate or related experience (minimum of 2 years work experience). Although fluency in English is essential, speaking, understanding, or reading an Aboriginal language would be an asset. Persons of Aboriginal ancestry and who are working and/or residing in Canada are encouraged to apply. Please note that travel costs to/from assessments will be the responsibility of the candidate.
