Introduction
The second assignment for the CAD and GIS course is dealing directly with the skill of using Autodesks AutoCAD Map 3D and CAD and Mapping Standards to create a map drawing, dwg file. Within the dwg, this assignment required the use of raster images. It also required the creation of a map layout and map book to be submitted for marking. Students were required to learn to connect to features and style images. Having the ability to perform these functions in Autodesks AutoCAD Map 3D is an abundance of skills that will also benefit us when we go out into the work force and have to work with the program.

The main purpose of this assignment is to gain a basic practical familiarity with Using Raster Images. It is also to gain a basic practical familiarity with Connecting to Features, to gain a basic practical familiarity with Styling Images and to publish a Map Book. Methodology
Creation of a new map using the map2d.dwt template

By selecting the map2d.dwt template a new map can be created. The selection of this template allows there to be a form of uniform amongst the drawings created. This uniform consists of standards styles and settings. The process of using the map2d.dwt template is completed by click file> new and within the select template wizard that appears, locate the template.
Coordinate System

For this assignment the coordinate system required is The NAD27 California State Planes, Zone 1(401) US Foot. The coordinate system can be assignment by clicking on Map Drafting> Coordinate systems> Assign Global Coordinate Systems. Assigning a correct coordinate system is important because otherwise all information within the document will be invalid, rendering any kind of validity it would of previously had. When new features and objects are added into a dwg file, the program will check to make sure its coordinate system matches the system of the original dwg file and if it does not, AutoCAD will alter the newly added feature or objects coordinate system to match that of the dwg.

Raster Connection

When in Display Manger select the data sign within the task pane. Select connect to data and the connection wizard will be a pop up window. Then click Surface connection and choose REDDING_CA1.dem as the raster source. When the Add to Map button is selected the DEM surface will have the right coordinate system.
How to Stylize a Raster

To begin to stylize the raster right click the REDDING_CA1 file and select edit styles which will prompt the style properties menu to open. From here select the style drop down and pick theme. This will display the theme menu. I have set the vertical exaggeration to 3. This number helps to display the terrain by dividing the horizontal scale of the feature by the vertical scale. Shown below is the hillshade settings I used to display the time of the day and year through direction and angle. I selected 255 for direction degrees and 35 for angle degrees. This settings can be located on the Planning and Analysis workspace when the analyze tab is selected, and then the Hillshade button. This will bring up the below menu.

The contour lines that display elevation have already been made but have been adjusted to match SA GIS standards. If the contour lines are not easily visible, which happens in many cases, set the raster to the back.
The Addition of Road Vector Data

For this assignment the road data was to be added over the raster surface. Because the roads have been draped they take on the topography of the raster surface located below. Road vector data is connected by clicking the data sign on the task panel and selecting connect to data which will promt the connection popup. Select SDF connection and pick roads.sdf and then Add to Map. Located below is the are the different types of stylized roads that have been added to the drawing.

Mapbook

A mapbook is a series of smaller maps that make up a larger grouping of maps. Within the mapbook there is a legend on each page that displays which section of the larger map is being displayed. A mapbook is created by selecting the mapbook tab in the task bar and is the dwf format. The GISC9305D2LeBlancB.dwfis divided into 8 sections of a larger map. Layout Creation

In AutoCAD in the Layout 1 or Layout 2 tab is where the layout can be created. It can be created by right clicking the Model tab then the From Template button and select template. All correct map elements (i.e compass rose, scale, date) will be added to the map except a legend, the legend is made when tools is clicked and then select the Create a Legend button. Conclusion
In conclusion this assignment has been extremely beneficial in conjunction with working with the AutoCAD Map 3D program. In the program we worked specifically with feature source connections, setting coordinates, using raster images, connecting images and stylizing features. For this assignment we also learned how to create a mapbook, and a layout file including all of the appropriate mapping conventions. This is an assignment that will prove to be extremely beneficial in the future when in the working world.
