I am highly interested in a Media and Cultural Studies course in your university as I have gradually came to the recognition of the

fact that everyday we encounter the media in some form. It could be waking up to the sound of the radio, or passing billboards in the streets or simply just watching television. They are a lot of different forms of media, for example, verbal or written media, visual media and oral media. Examples of media would include newspapers, magazines, film, radio, television, billboard advertisements as well as the internet. Media studies came about because of the developments in mass communication and lately it aroused my interest in the means of communicating to and developing connections between people. I am currently a student at National School of Poltical Studies and Public Administration, Faculty of Communication and Public Relations, Bucharest .My school curriculum included also the study of Economy, Psychology and Sociology and I received a thorough grounding in this subject area. I had the opportunity to develop my analytical and communication skills while taking part in different tasks and discussions. I have achieved good levels in the general spectrum of subjects, being aware of the worth of a broad cultural knowledge. I am especially good at foreign languages due to the desire to somehow genuinely comprehend the universally and culturally complex global society I am part of. At the beginning of this school year, while participating in the project of LETS DO IT, ROMANIA!, whose purpose was to clean the country in one day, I came to realize the usefulness of media in our daily enterprises and in our lives nowadays. Supposedly the media would have had an essential role to play and to successfully be played; I initially thought that this role had been well played through a good promotion of the project but people seemed not to have known enough and therefore the results were disappointing (not due to the media part but to the peoples lack of interest in what concerns the surroundings of, ultimately, oneself). Thus I ask myself how come the present mass-media informational programmes that continuously promote the environmental friendly approach to life, which so much influences the contemporary man, didnt have the desirable impact especially on the Romanians. In comparison to the outcome of the same project in other smaller and more modest European countries the Romanians, who are usually highly susceptible to influence, this time remained extremely unimpressed and inert. From this recent experience reemerged the issue I have long been captured by that of practically understanding how we become integrated and interact and project ourselves into the social environment on the basis of (mass) communication, cultural system symbols and background

I have always been a reserved, quiet and rather shy person, always keeping to myself. This has never meant I have been absent but the contrary, individually setting myself to reaching my best. I have always tried to be well-organised, neat and tidy in all aspects; I think I can see potential where others dont actually know what to see; I have always been seeking for opportunities of self-improvement and gaining knowledge I am applying for a degree course in the Holland because Dutch universities provide excellent opportunities not only for gaining professional qualifications of the highest standard but also for living and working in a multicultural environment. Taking everything into account, I am a self motivated, determined individual and I look forward to the social and academic challenges of university. Through the self criticism I am highly characterized by, I have been seeking for the best this, I believe, is an asset in achieving it. I hope that during the course of this brief statement, I have convinced you of my interest and dedication to a further course of study of Media & Cultural Studies.
