Sony, a leader in audio and video and delivery systems and Cisco, the leader
in network infrastructure have collaborated in the development of an end-to-
end, optimized IP monitoring solution. The Sony IP Monitoring Solution built on
Cisco Infrastructure is advantageous in a variety of markets including;
education, transportation, medical, enterprise, retail and government. In
phase one of development however, Sony and Cisco tailored their solution to
the needs of the educational community. Specifically, they focused on the K–
12 segment due to urgent needs in school systems nationwide, and the
relative ease with which together, Sony and Cisco could make significant
strides in providing increased security within schools with a cost effective
solution.
Protecting the
Learning Environment
As criminal threats and societal violence escalate, the need to protect our
schools becomes more urgent than ever. Recently, a sad litany of school
violence, child abuse, intrusion and burglary has joined the more familiar
concerns of behavior problems, graffiti, vandalism and “duty of care” issues.
These pressing concerns have made security a rising priority with school
boards and administrations across the country. This new priority is clearly
reflected in the growing allocations for security in school budgets.
In this emerging environment, IP monitoring plays a key role. IP monitoring
enables remote monitoring at multiple sites—a crucial advantage over
conventional, Closed Circuit TV. And IP monitoring can help police make
prompt and appropriate judgments to resolve emergencies with minimum loss
to persons and property.
Now Sony, the leader in AV/IT technology provides an IP monitoring solution
backed by the company’s hardware and software expertise. And Cisco, the leader
in networking equipment provides the network infrastructure for Sony’s IP
Monitoring. Compared to other IP-based systems, the Sony solution is more
manageable, reliable, affordable and scalable, making a real contribution to
increased security.
To appreciate the enormous potential of IP monitoring, compare it with the
analog world of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and the “analog to digital”
approach of connecting analog cameras to Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).

Compared to either of the two earlier approaches, full IP monitoring is

Powerful centralized control. One server with one software application can
run the entire system.
Easy upgrade and full scalability. Adding additional cameras is easy. The
central server is fully open to future upgrades with faster processors, larger
disk drives and more.
Full remote monitoring. Any authorized client can have direct access to any
camera. (In fact, Sony cameras can serve up to 50 simultaneous clients.)
You can also access monitoring images through the central server.
Robust, redundant storage. Your monitoring images are protected against
hard disk drive crashes by RAID redundancy and the option of tape backup
storage via SCSI connectivity.

Sony IP Monitoring is Reliable
Sony’s network cameras include a built-in web server, cache memory and
10/100Base-T Ethernet port. And they output pictures as industry-standard JPEG
data files. The SNCRZ30N network camera is a complete performer, with
industry-leading features. Consider picture quality.The SNC-RZ30N supports
beautiful color pictures at up to 736 x 480 resolution and up to 30 frames per
second (at VGA resolution). Depending on network bandwidth, you can enjoy
high-quality, full-motion video. Consider zoom. The camera offers the
extraordinary resolving power of 25X optical zoom, with an additional 12X digital
zoom, to pick out even the most distant objects.
Pan and tilt are accurate, flexible and fast. Accurate because you can control
camera angle within 0.08°. Flexible because you get 340° of pan coverage,
plus 115° of tilt. And fast because the camera can cover the entire 340° range
in just two seconds! You can even preset 16 specific areas of interest and
“tour” them automatically.

Cisco Networking Infrastructure for Sony IP Monitoring
Cisco is the world leader in networking solutions, offering a solid,
secure, intelligent foundation for the Sony IP Monitoring solution.
Together Sony and Cisco have combined resources to bring you a unique,
optimal monitoring solution. First, Cisco designs and implements the appropriate
infrastructure to meet your school district’s special requirements. Because
literally every district has their own special requirements and existing
infrastructure, Cisco does not take an identical approach in designing everyone’s
network to power their wireless monitoring solution. The result is a truly
specialized network suited to your needs; either building from nothing or fortifying
and leveraging your existing network.Whatever the course however, the resulting
Cisco network ensures the Sony IP Monitoring solution is fully optimized. The
joint solution delivers Sony monitoring cameras and application servers on the
Cisco network in order to achieve maximum performance.
The network infrastructure Cisco installed for the Sony IP Monitoring solution is
not only capable of powering a wireless monitoring solution for your existing
needs but will also support future applications. To achieve peak performance in
today’s turbulent and changing environment, you need an intelligently designed
network foundation powering applications that enable your school district to
function in an agile and adaptive manner.Together, with the right combination
of infrastructure and IP monitoring cameras and servers, Sony and Cisco
satisfy your immediate needs while building a platform for the future.
Affordable. To save you money not only in the initial investment but also
operating costs down the road. Reliable. Sony IP Monitoring is built with
