Ilana worked in my fifth grade classroom in the spring semester of 2013 and it is with great confidence that I recommend her for any position you may have available. Ilana was a warm and compassionate teacher with a genuine interest in her students and was an important member of the classroom. I found her reliable, friendly and easy to work with. She was well organized and always willing to meet new challenges with interest, energy, enthusiasm, and hard work. She was a creative thinker as well her teaching reflected this. Ilana planned for and skillfully presented a variety of lessons throughout her internship in the content areas of Reading, Writing, Science and Technology. Her lessons were always fun, engaging and reflected her grasp of the academic content as well as her ability to navigate and effectively use the state and national standards. Ilana did a beautiful job working in a classroom that was culturally, socially, and academically diverse. She skillfully promoted a learning environment that is fair and equitable. It was clear that she cared deeply about her students and was sensitive to their personal backgrounds, needs and life stories. Ilana also understood the importance of differentiating instruction to meet the needs her students and was able to modify her instruction to support specific students. This created an environment that was inclusive and comfortable for every student. In addition to her skills in the classroom setting, Ilana developed a sense of professionalism throughout the semester. As a student teacher, she has had several opportunities to attend meetings where confidential information was shared. Ilanas interactions, actions, and participation in these meetings are always appropriate and supportive. She was also willing to collaborate with other professionals and has had several opportunities to do so during her time at Jackson Street. Ilana is a thoughtful person who is flexible and willing to incorporate the suggestions of others into her work. She is also capable of providing excellent and supportive feedback as well.
