The consumption-optimised petrol engines for the S-Class combine driving enjoyment with environmental compatibility. Innovative Mercedes-Benz engine technology increases output and torque yet reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption significantly to such an extent that the 6 and 8-cylinder units meet the requirements of the stringent Bharat stage IV emission norms.

6-cylinder: Designed using light-weight materials, this powerplant features four valves per cylinder and adjustable camshafts. The result is high performance potential on one hand and low weight on the other. In addition, the combustion processes within the 6-cylinder unit have been optimised to reduce both emmissions and fuel consumption. The S 300L BlueEFFICIENCY engine delivers powerful torque of 282 Nm and output of 170 kW (231 hp). 8-cylinder: Effortless superiority and refinement are the major strengths of the V8 powerplants. Lightweight materials, such as magnesium are used in motor racing, optimized airflow and four valves per cylinder are the main reasons behind the high performance potential coupled with reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. The S 500L BlueEFFICIENCY achieves an output of 320 kW (432 hp) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm.

Intelligent Light System

The Intelligent Light System - Adapts headlamp range and light distribution to different conditions and driving situations. This system consists of pivoting Bi-Xenon modules in the headlamp housing with an adjusting mechanism for precise direction of adaptive headlamp beams. The Bi-Xenon modules

follow the driver's steering wheel movements and are able to pivot sideways at once when he enters a bend. The Cornering lights and Active Light System come into play to ensure that the bends are illuminated more effectively than before. Additionally, the enhanced fog lamps provide a broader light beam with better light

distribution for more effective illumination of the road verges. The Intelligent Light System operates in two different modes, Country light mode and Motorway light mode, and depending on the type of journey adjusts lighting for an increased range of vision.

Assistance systems
Numerous assistance systems help to enhance ride comfort and make life even easier for the driver of the S-Class.

Parking Package: The reversing camera provides assistance to make it easier and safer to park in reverse by providing the driver a better view of the area around the rear of the car. A wide-angle lens is installed below the boot handle. The reversing camera is activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged and films the area immediately behind the car, sending the image to the COMAND display. The Parking Package also features PARKTRONICS including Parking Guidance. The Parking Guidance system measures parking spaces automatically and helps the driver to find a parking space and to park in it. The data recorded by ultrasonic sensors are used to determine whether a parking space is large enough. The parking situation is then shown on the multifunction display. Yellow markings on the display indicate the path that needs to be steered, red marking the path that is currently being steered. When the two overlap, they

turn green. The PARKTRONIC display also indicates the current distance to obstacles. Night View Assist Plus (available with S 500L and S 350 CDIL BlueEFFICIENCY): This revolutionary feature sustains the wonderful experience of driving the S-Class into the night by making it a lot safer. The Night View Assist Plus produces a visual representation of the road in front when driving at night to give the driver a clearer view of what lies ahead. When Night View Assist Plus is activated, the display in the instrument cluster switches to the image provided by Night View Assist Plus. The system actively emits non-dazzling infrared light and relays the image recorded to the multifunction display. The grey scale image displayed resembles what the driver

would see through the windscreen with the main-beam headlamps switched on. Night View Assist Plus is always deactivated whenever the reverse gear is engaged. The system assists the driver in the following situations: Dazzling by oncoming vehicles Seeing unlit moving vehicles or broken-down vehicles Detecting persons or objects on the road and on the sides of the road Distinguishing between motorcars with one defective headlamp and motorcycles Driving on unfamiliar roads Remote boot lid access (available with S 500L and S 350 CDIL BlueEFFICIENCY): This feature allows the boot lid to be opened and closed by using the remote control button on the electronic key. Along with the convenience of operating it remotely, the function also

reduces the risk of soiling by eliminating the grasping of the lid with hands. The standard methods of operating the boot lid is by pressing a button that is either located inside the vehicle or on the boot lid. The control mechanism regulates the opening and closing speed, as well as the position of the boot lid. A power-closing function ensures that the lock has engaged correctly. Programming the garage position prevents damage to the boot lid when it is opened in confined spaces. Also, in case the driver wants to interrupt the opening or closing procedures, it can be done remotely. KEYLESS-GO (available with S 500L and S 350 CDIL BlueEFFICIENCY): Imagine the comfort of driving keyless. The KEYLESS-GO is an electronic drive authorization system which enables the driver to unlock the vehicle and start the engine without having to actually hold the key. If the key is in the immediate

vicinity of the vehicle and the user grips one of the door handles, the vehicle electronics use the relevant signals to communicate with the key. And if the authorization code matches, the vehicle is unlocked. Similarly, the system can also be used to lock the vehicle from outside. Once you get in, starting of the engine is even easier. It can be started and switched off using the start/stop button in the ignition lock. Even with KEYLESS-GO, the operating functions of a standard key like extended central locking are retained in full. Unintentional key removal: If the key is unintentionally removed from the vehicle while the engine is running, e.g. if the front passenger gets out with the key inadvertently in his pocket, the engine continues to run. The action of opening and closing the door will however cause a visual and audible warning

to sound when moving off. If the engine is switched off with the key removed, restarting is only possible after re-identification of the key. Key unintentionally left in the vehicle: If the key is in the vehicle, it cannot be used to lock the vehicle via KEYLESS-GO. This prevents the driver or the passengers from locking themselves out. The key benefits of going keyless: Reduces the risk of being locked out Faster, more convenient door opening Touch-sensitive sensor system for even greater operating comfort Further increase in operating comfort with the drive authorization system and easy starting of the engine The same opening, closing and convenience features as the familiar electronic key

Panoramic Sunroof
The Panoramic Sunroof opens up a whole new perspective and allows light to flood into the interior, giving a hint of that special open-air feeling.

Panoramic Sunroof: The panaromic glass sunroof offers additional benefits on top of those available with the regular sliding sunroof. The size of the opening is around 33% larger than conventional sliding sunroofs, and the transparent surface area it creates is double the size of that available with conventional sliding glass sunroofs. The overall effect is a light cheerful feel with the sunblinds providing optimal protection against direct sunlight. And moreover, its easy to operate thanks to the multifunction switch in the overhead control panel.

S-Guard

Perfectly concealed beneath an outer skin that looks identical to that of the standard production model, lies an integral network of protective components. The passenger cell is a brand-new design from the bottom up and incorporates highly effective reinforcements, especially at points that are no longer accessible once the body is complete. The result, produced in a strictly screened production facility, is a protective area consisting of high - strength steel, aramid and special glass. Like every Mercedes-Benz, the

S-Guard needs to pass all the key quality and safety tests with flying colours, of course, not to mention specific special protection tests involving firearms and explosives. Only then can it be called an S-Guardcertified by independent authorities and forearmed for extreme situations. An S-Guard includes all the familiar S-Class amenities, of course. Plus all the usual safety components such as the electronic control systems, brakes, chassis and suspension which have been adapted to take into account additional requirements

due to the extra weight of the S-Guard. The S-Guard lives up to its claim of being able to offer mobile special protection and exclusive comfort at the highest level. With the S-Guard based on the V 221 series, Mercedes-Benz offers a special protection vehicle that perfectly reconciles two aspects which are of decisive importance for its target groups: safety and comfort. The key contributing factors are trailblazing technology, superior performance, a spacious interior and a wide range of available appointments. Further development of the Mercedes-Benz "integrated special protection" concept has raised the level of protection to a standard unrivalled in the industry, without any significant effects on design, appointments or comfort. DesignHighest protection in its most attractive form: Despite the extensive protective measures affecting the body, the exterior design of the S-Guard is practically identical to that of the standard model, thereby ensuring the greatest possible discretion. In the interior, the necessary special protection measures have likewise been integrated in such a way that the S-Guard meets the highest expectations in terms of perceived value as well as appointments

and comfort. The generous spaciousness of the S-Class - especially when entering/exiting - is fully maintained. As most of the security-specific features are accommodated in the boot, the feeling of spaciousness and freedom of movement remain uncompromised. Comfort without compromises: During the development of the S-Guard, care was taken to ensure that the comfort features of the standard model have been retained almost without exception. Major comfort features include: THERMOTRONIC 4-zone comfort climate control Multicontour rear seats & Active multicontour front seats with massage function and comfort head restraints Rear Seat Entertainment package Comfort telephony with wireless second handset All doors are held open in any position Assisted closing (rear doors only). Engineering: The V12 petrol engine provides the S 600 Guard with ample power and more torque than its relevant competitors, thereby ensuring additional safety reserves. In addition the suspension, brakes and control systems such as ESP or ASR have been specifically developed and reconfigured to allow for the increased weight and vehicle characteristics. Other

measures include the extensive quality and safety tests, including crash behaviour, rough road simulations and endurance trials under extreme conditions which an S-Guard model is required to pass. Superior suspension: Despite the higher vehicle weight, specially reinforced and redimensioned chassis components help to ensure that the comfort, safety and handling dynamics of the S-Guard meet the high Mercedes-Benz standards, and therefore lead the field in a competitive comparison. All relevant chassis components, e.g. drive shafts, steering control arms,

springs and damper systems have been modified and redimensioned to cope with the extra weight and the resulting changes in physical driving parameters. These modifications include more powerful air springs at the front and additional steel springs at the rear, for example. Like the standard model, the S-Guard is equipped with AIRMATIC, which includes all-round level control, speed-sensitive suspension lowering and the Adaptive Damping System (ADS).

The most powerful S-Class model: the S 65 AMG with AMG 6.0 litre V12 biturbo engine develops 450 kW (612 hp) and achieves a peak torque of 1000 Nm. The result is exhilarating performance acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Gears can be selected using

the DIRECT SELECT lever or aluminium gearshift paddles on the AMG sports steering wheel as in Formula 1. The design is brought to a successful conclusion by an AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes featuring AMG V12 styling,
