Overview
Q1. What types of students may be interested in the Cisco Networking Academy CCNA Security course? A. CCNA Security is designed for Networking Academy students seeking career-oriented, entry-level security specialist skills. Prospective students include individuals enrolled in technology degree programs at institutions of higher education and IT professionals who want to enhance their core routing and switching skills. CCNA Security provides a next step for CCNA Discovery or CCNA Exploration students who want to expand their CCNA-level skill set to prepare for a career in network security. Q2. Are there any prerequisites for CCNA Security? A. CCNA Security has no Networking Academy course prerequisites. Students should have the following skills and knowledge:

CCNA-level networking concepts and skills Basic PC and Internet navigation skills

While there are no required course prerequisites, students are encouraged to complete the CCNA Discovery or CCNA Exploration curricula to acquire the fundamental CCNA-level routing and switching skills needed for success in this course. Q3. What are the main elements of the CCNA Security curriculum? A. The CCNA Security 1.1 curriculum consists of:

One semester-long (approximately 70-hour) course 10 chapters and chapter exams One final exam and skills-based assessment 16 hands-on labs 10 Cisco Packet Tracer activities and one Packet Tracer Practice Skills Based Assessment (SBA)

The CCNA Security course uses the same graphical user interface (GUI) as the CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration curricula. Course labs and Packet Tracer activities are provided as separate .zip files that can be downloaded by instructors from CCNA Security Resources Folder in the Cisco NetSpace learning environmentthe full path is Offerings > CCNA Security > CCNA Security Resources Folder. Students can download the student version of the Packet Tracer activities from the NetSpace classroom environment. Q4. What is new in CCNA Security version 1.1? A. CCNA Security version 1.1 aligns with the new Cisco IOS Network Security (IINS) certification exam (640554). Some of the major changes in this release of the course and the certification exam are the addition of the Cisco ASA (Adaptive Security Appliance) and the replacement of Cisco Security Device Manager (SDM) with Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP). For a complete list of the changes between CCNA Security v1.0 and 1.1, please review the CCNA Security 1.1 Release Notes available in the CCNA Security Resources Folder in NetSpace. Another useful resource is the CCNA Security 1.1 instructor learning opportunity available at http://lms.netacad.net/index.php. Q5. Is the CCNA Security course available in languages other than English? A. No, there are no plans to translate this course.

Q6. Can the CCNA Security course be taught in a blended distance learning (BDL) environment using a combination of in-person and remote learning? A. Yes, the CCNA Security course is designed to be offered in a BDL environment.

Q7. Where can I find presentations for use in my classroom? A. CCNA Security 1.1 Instructor Power Point slides are available in the CCNA Security Resources Folder in NetSpace. Q8. What kind of books will be available? A. Cisco Press will support the Networking Academy CCNA Security 1.1 course with a course booklet and lab manual. You can order the following books through your Pearson sales representative or directly from www.ciscopress.com:

CCNA Security Course Booklet, 2nd Edition (ISBN: 1587133075) CCNA Security Lab Manual, 2nd Edition (ISBN: 1587133067)

Q9. Where can I connect with other instructors teaching CCNA Security? A. The CCNA Security Community on the Instructor Community site is a collaborative environment for instructors teaching core security concepts. There are a number of resources located here, as well as opportunities to ask questions of experts and colleagues.

Cisco Packet Tracer

Q10. Does Cisco Packet Tracer support the CCNA Security curriculum? A. Yes, Cisco Packet Tracer supports the security protocols needed for the CCNA Security curriculum. The one exception is that Packet Tracer currently does not support the Cisco ASA device. The latest version of Packet Tracer is available for download by instructors from the CCNA Security Resources Folder and by students from the NetSpace classroom environment. Q11. Can Packet Tracer be used to replace lab bundles for the CCNA Security course? A. No, Packet Tracer is not a replacement for lab equipment. Networking Academy recommends the use of physical equipment for hands-on learning. This is a key differentiator relative to other programs. Packet Tracer activities are designed to provide additional learning opportunities to complement the hands-on lab experience.

Equipment
Q16. What are the equipment requirements for CCNA Security 1.1 labs? A. CCNA Security leverages the equipment and topology of the CCNA Discovery and CCNA Exploration courses. The CCNA Security 1.1 equipment is identical to the v1.0 equipment with the addition of a Cisco ASA (Model 5505). Academies that currently teach CCNA Security v1.0 will need to add the ASA 5505 to their lab topology to complete the Chapter 10 ASA labs. More details can be found in the CCNA Security 1.1 Instructor Lab Manual and in the CCNA Security Equipment List. Both documents are available in the CCNA Security Resources Folder in NetSpace. Q17. Can I use ASA Model 5510 that was purchased for previous Networking Academy Security courses (NS1/NS2)? A. The CCNA Security 1.1 course was designed using the Cisco ASA 5505 to minimize costs to academies. If you use the Cisco ASA 5510 with the course, it requires the ASA 5510 Supplemental Lab Manual because of significant differences between the 5505 and 5510 setup and configuration. The ASA 5510 Supplemental Lab Manual is available in the CCNA Security Resources Folder in NetSpace. Q18. What IOS version is the minimum requirement for the CCNA Security course? A. Please see the Networking Academy Maintenance Image and Hardware Support document for recommended IOS versions for hardware platforms for all NetAcad curricula. This document can be found in the Resources Folder in NetSpace. Q19. Is the Advanced IP Service feature set (ISR G1) and the Security Technology Package (SEC) license required for the CCNA Security lab routers? A. Yes, these advanced feature sets are required, and both are covered under the Networking Academy Maintenance Program. More information and signup instructions for Networking Academy Maintenance can be found in the Resources Folder in NetSpace. Q20. Do the CCNA Security labs support remote access through NDGs NETLAB+ solution? A. Yes, we have worked with NDG to test the CCNA Security labs for remote operation. The topology is compatible with the NETLAB+ solution and enabled for remote operation.

Instructor Training
Q21. What are the instructor training requirements for teaching CCNA Security? A. To be able to teach the CCNA Security course, an instructor must complete the Academy Orientation course and pass the CCNA Security Instructor Training course. If an instructor already holds a valid CCNA Security or higher certification, they can take the CCNA Security Instructor Fast Track course and must pass the skills based assessment (SBA). Q22. What are the CCNA Security Instructor Training course options and time requirements? A. The recommended time requirements for CCNA Security instructor training are listed below. Instructor Training Centers deliver the training and they may determine time requirements need to be adjusted; however, the minimum expectations stated below should be used as the baseline and increased based on individual ITC circumstances. CCNA Security instructor training can be delivered in one of the following formats:

In-person instructor-led training (ILT): Five days (40 hours) Blended (in-person and remote) ILT: Two days in-person training and 30 hours of remote training. All final assessments need to be proctored in-person.

Remote ILT: 40 to 48 hours of remote training. An ITC must submit a proposed plan for Remote ILT instructor classes to the Regional Technical Manager of their respective region for approval.

Additional Questions
Q23. Where can I get help with questions regarding the CCNA Security course? A. Instructors or academies can get help by posting questions in the appropriate CCNA Security Community forum on the Instructor Community site or by contacting the Networking Academy Global Support Desk.
