ABOUTSTAGECENTRELINEASSOCIATES(SCLA)

SCLAissetupasaDesignSpecialistinCulture,ArtsandMediafacilities.Itiswhollyownedandled
by a team of active international technical theatre practitioners and entertainment production professionals.Thecompanycombinesabackgroundoftheatremanagement,entertainmentdesign, museum, acoustic and architectural space planning; with handson experience in technical engineering,design,detailing,production&projectmanagement.Webelieveourvastexperiencein theareasoftechnicalproductionandculturalresearchwillbringmanybenefitstotheproject. SCLA pioneers to create many unique technical design features, implementing advance and future proof technologies for projects. We are first to introduce the concept of an Asian Performing Arts space design in the region, currently implemented at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre ( klpac ). The success of klpac has been widely published and earned much international attention in manytheatrearchitecturalandengineeringforums.

SCLA is the first in the region to implement EtherCon and PowerCon technology within a
performing arts project. SCLA also recently completed the design and implementation of the first FiberOptic Infrastructural OpticalCon system as part of the audiovisual system in Malaysias longestcoveredopenairboulevardatTheRedCarpetBoulevardatKotaDamansara,Malaysia.

Simplicity and Practicality are the two major driving forces in every project that SCLA has been involved in. SCLAs philosophy is not just aboutputting theright speaker in the right place butalso with a right attitude. Our experience in venue management and technical production has further established us as the one and only user background base Entertainment, Arts and Media Facilities DesignConsultancyintheregion. SCLA comes into the project working very closely with the Architect and the Client/Operator to realize the working space and the practicality of the operation flow. Our handson experience in managing venues and productions add as great supplement to the design. SCLA ensures the architectural allowances and provisions enable the best operational conditions to carry out performancesforthecomingyears. SCLAneverbelievesthemoreisthebetterintechnology.Weencourageourclientstorethinkthe demands of state of the art. As SCLA members are active practitioners, we understand how to survive and succeed in the Entertainment, Arts and Media industries. Technological advancement is not necessary the key. Ming Jin brings a wealth of experience in the fields of Interior Design, Theatre Design, Theatre Management and many other skills involving the Performing Arts. Trained as an Interior Designer, Ming Jins scope of work in the design area covers hotels, resorts and condominiums around Malaysia. InthePerformingArtssphere,MingJinhasbeeninvolvedwithmanytheatrecompaniesinMalaysia, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Korea and USA since 1993. His involvement includes Set Design, Set Construction,Lighting,Sound,StageManagementandProductionManagement. To name a few, Ming Jin was instrumental in the development, design and construction of Malaysias premiere performing arts venues, The Actors Studio theatres and The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre. He was also part of the design team of Malaysias premiere convention centre, The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. He is currently designing and building the Performing ArtsCentreofPenang. Ming Jin is still a pioneering force in the field of theatre management and design in Malaysia. Throughhis extensiveyearsofcontactswithartistesofvariousgenres,hecanthelpbutnoticethat a unique and innovative space always inspires and is a fundamental ingredient in the process of creation.

Macs international involvement in theatre lighting design has taken him around the world.. His exposureininternationaltheatrehasfurtherestablishedhiscredentials.Hisworksinlightingdesign andtheatreproductionhadspreadoverMalaysia,Singapore,HongKong,Taiwan,Japan,USA,South Africa, and Australia. Mac became a full time Theatre and Lighting Design Consultant for many prestige projects since 1998, he has been appointed by the Singapore Government as the Lighting DesignerfortheSingaporeNationalDayParadeShowfrom2009to2012. From 2002, Mac has received many awards in Malaysia and Singapore to celebrate his works in stage lighting design. In 2006, he was awarded the National Arts Awards Malaysia for his achievement in Theatre Design. In the Entertainment Technologies industry, Mac has always been theforefrontpioneerinmanyarea;heisresponsibletointroduceanddesignthefirstflexiblerigging grid system for KLPAC, as well as the first to implement EtherCon, PowerCon, OpticalCon System in Malaysia. He is a proud member of OISTAT (International Organization of Theatre Architects, Scenographers andTechnicians)underUNESCO.

Over the last 15 years, Ian has been actively involved in design and implementation of integrated systems for lighting and audiovisual. After graduating from the United Kingdom in Electrical & Electronics Engineering majoring in Control Systems, he began his career managing systems implementation in major hotel projects and theatre venues, including Malaysia National Theatre (MNT) or Istana Budaya where he served as the commissioning engineer for motorized stage systems. Havingadeeppassionforcontroltechnology,hewasinvolvedinover100installationsofintelligent lighting control systems in Malaysia and South East Asia. Among them, Kuala Lumpur International Convention Centre, Bank Negara Malaysia HQ (Sasana Kijang) and a long list of buildings in Putrajaya.

For over 27 years Nick Coffil has built a world wide reputation for innovation in theatre and television design and cultural and museum planning. Building on his studies in theatre design at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Australia, Coffils talent lies in his ability to take the rich history of a country and represent it usinginnovativenewmedia,materialsandtechnologytoprovideuniqueculturalexperiences. Workingcloselywithspecialistconsultantsandgovernmentauthorities,Coffildevelopscloserelationshipswith his clients to ensure his projects have lasting benefits for the host organisation, their creative staff and their audiences. Through his 25 year technical involvement in theatre, opera, live concert and corporate live productions Jonhasdevelopedanenviabletechnicalabilitytoconceive,createandproduceuniqueenvironments. Over the last 20 years Jon has had a major involvement in Asia with multinational and Asian companies developingcuttingedgecorporateandtheatreproductions.Thesehaveincludedproductlaunches,fashion shows, corporate events, conferences, and innovative theatre. Mercedes, Visa, American Express, Cathay Pacific, Louis Vuitton, IBM, Apple, Oracle, Motorola, HSBC and Morgan Stanley are some of the major clientshehasproducedeventsfor. His most recent international project was Wahyu, a contemporary dance production produced in South Korea and Indonesia for performance in South Korea, Singapore & Europe. Jon was responsible for the overall technical production and stage management of the project coordinating a team of video artists, lighting designers and choreographers. The show has been touring the 2006 European summer theatre festivals.

Kenny is a pioneer theatre practitioner in Singapores developing Technical Theatre industry. His workspansthefullspectrumoftheindustryfrominnovativetheatreproductionstodevelopingand operating venues, from theatre planning to arts education & training. His CV testifies the contributionshehasmadetotheindustry. Kenny was the Esplanades first Production Manager. He worked closely with Theatre Projects Consultants (UK) to ensure that the Esplanade theatre complex become a facility that was productionfriendly. In addition to preopening planning and the establishment of the art centres Production Services department, he was also production manager for the Esplanades Opening Festival. He also took on the role of managing the Concert Halls variable acoustics, as well as developingtrainingprogramattheEsplanade. Singapores School of the Arts (SOTA) is an artsfocused secondary school housed in an architecturallystunningcustombuiltfacilityinthecentreofthecity.Kennywasbroughtintoadapt the 3 theatres (concert hall, theatre & studio) within the complex from a solely forschooluse venues to a commercially viable arts centre. In addition to respecifying equipment, he also worked withtheschooltodevelopaworkablebusinessandoperationsmodel.

Michael has 15 years experience in the Architectural field, starting his career in 1996, he has experience in design development and construction documentation for a range of residential, entertainment, commercial, institutional and hospitalityprojects. RecentlyMichaelhasbeeninvolvedwithseveraltheatreprojectsaroundtheSouthEastAsianregion.Beinganintegral part of the design team and learning all aspects of theatre design space planning, function and audio/visual requirements. The projects range from relocatable bamboo structures in rural Cambodia, to multi million dollar theatre,academyandstudiofacilitiesinKualaLumpurandPenang,Malaysia. Prior to this, Michael was part of a multidisciplinary documentation team, based in Sydney Australia, and was responsibleforcoordinatingconsultantsforprojects,includingthe$10mredesignofTheBelroseHotel,amultifaceted familyhotelwithentertainmentareas,largebar,bistro,kidsplaygroundandliquordiscountstore,locatedonSydney's NorthernBeaches. Michaels involvement in the upgrade of the heritage listed Maroubra Junction Hotel in Sydney covered every aspect of Architectural work. From site measurement & survey, sketch documentation, 3D visualization & animation, consultant coordination, development documentation and construction documentation. After the implementation of the new laws regarding smoking in public venues, Michael was involved in the design of complying smoking areas and terracestoseveralclubsandhotelsaroundSydney.

ProjectDirectorfortheConcertinSingaporeandMalaysia One of the biggest and most technical demanding KPop Concerts staged in Singapore and Malaysia in 2010 and 2011. This particular concert production was technically and production managed by SCLA as the local technical producer. The concert was awarded by Korean Producer as the most completeandtechnicalexcellentshowthroughouttheentiretour.

TechnicalDirectorfortheConcertinSingaporeandMalaysia Claimed to be the most expensive & artistic concert of the year. Due to the nature of its complexity in the technical setup, SCLA was specially appointed to manage the technical production of the concert. The concert features 9 units of giant flying LED panels to create various forms of Visual Structures thatwillcontaincontentcreatedbythefamousfilmdirectorWongKahWai.
