PROJECT

Find any engineering structure like figure above to analyze it? The analysis should be involved all chapter that we had been studied before. Separate the analysis into different chapter. The analyses include the static and strength analysis. Submit this project before 19th of December 2012.

For our project we have choose chair to analyse the mechanic of strength of this chair. The strucrure part of the chair is being made by steel.

Chapter 1 F

The chair has been made by material that strong enough that it can withstand the stress and strain when a person sit on the chair. The leg of the chair is the most important part since it has to withstand the most stress. So let calculate the stress that it withstand when a person sit on the chair

A person 60 kg sit on the chair. Let say he sit at the center of the chair.

## The cross section area of the leg of the chair 0.01

0.009

60(9.81)=588.6N The chair has four leg , so the force on one leg is = 147.15N = 156.594N(compression) The cross section area of the leg of chair, (0.01 =3 m

## The stress at the leg is =

= 49.956 MPa

When a person lean on the chair he must exert some force on the body rest of the chair.

We try to calculate the deformation that happen at part B. When a person lean on the chair he put 10 % of his weight on the rest body of the chair. So when a 200kg person sit on the chair the weight that he exerted is 20kg. Let say part B has same cross sectional area like at the leg. It is made up of steel so the modulus of steels is 200G. The length of part B is 0.23 m

Part B

## Then the force experience on the part B is

## Then the deformation that happen on part B is

= 7.154

When a person 200kg sit on the chair then the torque produce is 200(9.81) (0.27) = 529.47 N.m Moment of inertia = So the stress that it cause is = 49.025 MPa The angle is = 0.0245 rad 0.0245 = 1.4 = 1.08

80(9.81) Part C

0.155m R R

Let say the cross sectional area is the same like at the leg. Moment of inertia at part C = = 1.08

Y = 0.01-0.005=0.005m The point A happen a stress there. So when a 80kg person seat on the chair sit on the chair the stress at point A at part C =187.117MPa

When a person turn around when he sit on the chair if the chair does not move around the leg of the chair will experience torque. So it will face additional stress there. So we assume that when a 200 kg person turn around the torque produce is 1900 N.m. So for one leg the torque produce is The length of the leg is 0.43 m Moment of inertia at of the leg = C = 0.01-0.005=0.005 The leg is made up of steel so G= 77GPa = 1.08 .

## So the stress at the leg due to torque is = 219.907MPa
