For over forty years since our establishment, we have been a part of the driving force propelling the growth of the Korean economy, writing a history of challenges and accomplishment in the fields of textile, industrial materials, chemicals, power & industrial systems, construction, trading, and information & communication. We have developed RegenTM, Koreas first yarn recycled from PET bottles. M2, Aerocool, and Askin have been selected as the worlds best products.
Our Polyester Fiber Business Division develops and supplies a wide variety of new materials required for the development of hi-tech functional products that exceed the limits of the current lifestyle with our unparalleled technologies as clearly shown by the highly functional products. Enhancing the quality of life and creating new demands, the business divisions differentiated products include the following: M2, which was recognized by the government of Korea as one of the worlds best products (microfiber combining the high functionality of polyester and emotional value of natural fiber); Aerocool (functional yarn that quickly absorbs liquids and dries fast); Askin (cool-feeling, UV-blocking, and non-see-through yarn); Aerosilver with silver elements that prevent germs and odor (anti-bacterial yarn); Aerowarm that controls humidity in clothing with sweat-absorbing, quick-drying functions (light warm yarn); Aerocool Prizma that combines Aerocool with excellent dyeing function and color fastness (dyed colorfast yarn); Firex, which has been successfully tested by advanced countries for its fire retardant function (fire-retardant yarn), and; Xanadu, which is highly elastic with stable shape and durability (latent and potential crimped yarn). In particular, the business division made special efforts to develop ecological fiber materials and launched RegenTM, a recycled polyester yarn made from waste PET bottles for the first time in Korea. Regen has been GRS-certified by Control Union, an environmental certification organization, as well as JEA-certified in Japan. It has also earned an Eco-Mark.

Hyosungs Fabric Unit boasts of an integrated production system that covers yarn production, fabric weaving, dyeing, and post-processing and focuses on developing highly functional and hi-tech products for customers. The units main products include garment fabric, workwear fabric, and non-garment fabric. Garment fabric include waterproof and water-permeable, ultralight, sweat-absorbing and fast-drying, ecological, cooling, light and thermal, elastic tricoat, and fire-retardant fabrics. Workwear fabric include highly durable and functional worksuits that are often subject to the industrial washing process, fire-retardant products such as aramid and modacrylic, highly durable surgical suits and drapes, dust-free garments worn in clean rooms, highly robust nylon, and protective wear and military fabrics made of para-aramid. Fabrics for non-apparel products include Finestar, a comprehensive cleaner lineup using microfiber. The unit manufactures and sells lens and display cleaners, clean room wipers for semiconductor and other electronics manufacturing, and domestic cleaners. In addition, our highly robust fabrics for bags incorporating RobicTM and highly durable and protective case fabrics incorporating HyskinTM form part of our development and supply activities.

Hyosungs Dyeing Unit leads the Korean dyeing and processing industry and has the best integrated dyeing plant in Korea which dyes 2.5 million yards of fabrics. In particular it can also process 700K yards of nylon 2-Way spandex monthly, which is a highly difficult process. In addition to our dyeing process for nylon 2-Way spandex, polyester 2-Way spandex, cotton union cloth, and polyester fabrics, we provide a variety of additional processing steps including buffing, sanforizing, and singeing.

The Tire & Industrial Reinforcements PU is the worlds only tire reinforcements maker that supplies all kinds of tire reinforcements covering fiber tire cords made of polyester and nylon as well as steel cords, and bead wires. In particular, our polyester tire cords section, which enjoys the largest market share in the world, concluded a 350-million-dollar, long-term supply contract with Michelin, followed by a 3.2-billion-dollar contract with Goodyear in 2006, the worlds largest bid ever through which we were recognized for our excellent product quality as a global tire maker, securing a stable, long-term corporate growth. Moreover, we are diversifying our production bases by establishing local production facilities in China, Vietnam, US, Brazil, and Luxembourg other than our Ulsan Plant in Korea to supply products stably and serve our global customers in a timely manner. Thanks to our advanced technologies and reliable quality in steel cords, we signed a 650-million-dollar contract with Michelin in 2005 and a 1.8-billion-dollar, long-term contract with Goodyear in 2011; thus providing ourselves with a stable selling basis. In addition to our Eonyang Plant, we have established production facilities in Qingdao and Nanjing in China, Vietnam, US, and Luxembourg for further growth as a global tire reinforcements maker. Collaborating with Sumitomo, a prominent tire maker in Japan, we have established plants in China and Thailand to prepare a solid foundation upon which to expand our sales in the Asian market and create opportunities to grow into a global leader in the steel cord field. Our bead wire sector supplies over 90K M/T of products to the world annually, contributing greatly to making tires lighter and more fuel-efficient. We are also contributing significantly to the growth of green and IT industries through our supply of saw wires, which are necessary in producing wafers for semiconductors and solar cells, manufactured using our steel cord and bead wire manufacturing expertise.

As a maker of flat fabrics, cushions, and OPW (One-Piece Woven) products, Global Safety Textiles (GST) is the worlds largest airbag fabric maker with the biggest market share in the world. More specifically, the unit boasts a market share of over 30% in the European fabric market and the North American OPW market through close collaboration and bulk transactions with top-tier module makers such Autoliv, TRW, KSS, and Takata. The unit achieved the worlds best quality as a result of its excellent technical edge represented by hi-tech weaving, cutting process, and patents in the OPW process. In addition, the unit has a total value chain of the airbag and cushion manufacturing covering warping, weaving, coating, cutting, sewing, and folding process, and is able to meet the customers needs with a variety of products. With its head office and R&D center in Maulburg, Germany, GST has a total of 11 production facilities in Germany and US for high value-added fabric production and R&D activities as well as in 4 continents specifically Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, South Africa, Mexico, and China. Through the efficient global networks we are able to maximize customer satisfaction.

The Interior PU is Koreas largest and only commercial and automotive carpet maker with independent production facilities from yarn to finished products. In particular, our major product, Swan Tile Carpet, leads the commercial carpet market with its unique quality excellence, which has been verified by the environmental mark certification and KS certification in the field of tile carpets where strict quality control is required. Furthermore, the unit produces many kinds of carpet yarns as well as automotive carpets and Swan Mats made of highly durable yarn as part of the diverse lineup to meet customer needs in a systematic and convenient manner. Thanks to our consistent product development efforts, we developed a highly contaminant-resistant, durable nylon square hollow yarn, which is a solid foundation for supplying differentiated products that are ISO 9001-, ISO 14001-, and TS 16949-certified based on our seamless quality control system. Upon such high quality products, Hyosung has been able to expand its business beyond Korea to overseas carpet markets in Japan and Australia, and also successfully entered the US automotive carpet market.

Upon the successful commercialization of Aramd fibers the business division seeks to progress as a solution provider.
Future industrial competitiveness depends on having hi-tech materials on hand. Hyosungs independently developed, stronger-than-steel ALKEX (Hyosung Aramid Brand) is expected to help customers progress and grow more competitive. Boasting five times the strength of steel and fire-retardant quality without the use of a flame retardant, ALKEX is used as the core material for bulletproof vests, helmets, and vehicles and for optical cables, hoses, and belts (for automobiles and industrial purposes) among other industrial applications. The product enjoys an ever-increasing demand as an effective alternative to the asbestos used to manufacture auto brake pads and linings amid environmental concerns and awareness of the importance of safety and environment. To respond effectively to such increasing demand, the division has ensured that it has capacity to produce over 5,000 M/T until 2015. We will satisfy the customers needs through a wide range of products (High tenacity yarn, High modulus yarn, and Staple fiber) as well as differentiated products (Fine denier yarn, Adhesion activated yarn, Hybrid yarn) based on Hyosungs 40-year-knowhow and technology in synthetic fiber manufacturing.

Carbon Fiber

The first commercial manufacturer of High performance grade carbon fibers in Korea.
Carbon fiber is getting more attention as a core material for weight reduction to save energy due to its extraordinary properties. Consisting of more than 92% of carbon element, carbon fiber is 10 times stronger than steel while its density is only a quarter of steel. The application for carbon includes aerospace, industrial and sports/leisure goods. High performance carbon fiber include High strength grade carbon fiber (tensile strength of 4.9 GPa and tensile modulus of 250 GPa) and Intermediate modulus grade (tensile strength of 5.5 Gpa and tensile modulus 290 GPa). These fiber types account for over 70% of the total worldwide market demand in 2012. To satisfy the increasing demand for carbon fiber with the annual forecasts over than 10%, Hyosung will be increasing the annual production capacity of carbon fiber for both (High strength and Intermediate modulus) by an additional 2,000 MT at the start of 2013 along with the corresponding precursor expansions. Hyosung plans to become the one of the top players in carbon fiber production business by 2020. Building on our own successful technology for both carbon fiber and PAN precursor, our R&D activity will be intensified to introduce new carbon fiber products to meet market needs, this will be supported with continuous investment for capacity increases.

TOPILENE is manufactured and sold by Hyosung; it represents PP , which is the most widely used among the five major general-use resins. TOPILENE is manufactured through Japans MITSUI CHEMICAL HYPOL process and USs DOW UNIPOL process. It is highly recognized for its excellent quality in various specialized products as well as general-use products. The random copolymer products for pipes are exported widely as one of the worlds best products. In particular, Hyosung has secured a stable supply of high-purity propylene, the major material of polypropylene, by covering the full value chain from raw material internally supplied using the high-tech propane dehydration(DH) process, to finished products.

Independent manufacturing system from polymerization of raw materials to production. Koreas largest supplier of nylon films. Enhance the foundation for growth in polyester film by entering into electronic materials and high value-added films.
The Film PU began producing nylon films in 1996 and polyester films in 1997 based on domestic know-how and world-class expertise in nylon and polyester fiber business. The unit is independently developing nylon and polyester copolymers, which are materials for film products. In 2004, the unit set up a nylon film plant based on uniaxially drawn film production with the largest capacity in Korea. In addition, the unit has an optical and industrial polyester film production base in Yongyeon Plant, Ulsan, which was set up for mass production starting in the latter half of 2012. The units ceaseless efforts and researches resulted in ISO 9001 certification in 2000 and ISO 14001 certification 2004, ensuring that the unit has the biggest market share in the Korean nylon film market through excellent quality and stable supply. On the other hand, the units polyester film sector produces a variety of industrial films including optical films used for FPD LCD production, solar cell films, motor insulator films, and processing to secure competitive edge in the electronic film industry.

The Chemicals Performance Group manufactures a variety of chemical products including TPA exported to Asia, Europe, and Middle East as well as various chemical products such as PP, films, Fluorine gas, and PET bottle boasting No.1 market share in Korea.

Since the commencement of PET bottle production for the first time in Korea in 1979, Hyosung has led the market. Hyosung also introduced Aseptic (the sterilized filling system for drinks).
After developing and producing Koreas first PET bottle, Hyosung supplies various PET bottles for juices, sports drinks, teas, and soft drinks in Korea and exports to Japan as well. With a vision of being recognized as a supplier of the best-quality packaging solutions and services and being recognized for it, the company particularly the unit consistently engages in R&D efforts to create the best value possible; it has acquired quality authorizations from FDA as well as Coca-Cola and Pepsi. For the first time in Korea, the unit developed a multi-layer PET beer bottle that has been supplied to Hite Beer since 2003. In 2007, the unit became the first to adopt the sterilized filling system in Korea; it began operating Aseptic, the sterilized filling system for cereal drinks, milk coffee, and milk drinks whose low acidity make them go bad easily in the distribution process. As a way to promote the innovative sterilized filling system for drinks to customers, the unit developed a brand called Asepsys, which has helped the unit lead the market and render sophistication to the OEM business for drink filling. In addition, the unit has set up a comprehensive production structure ranging from the PET materials to finished goods for high quality. The unit also has a production and sales network in Daejeon, Jincheon, Yangsan, and Gwanghyewon to respond quickly to the customers needs.

The unit produces the highest-quality, highly pure TPA with advanced chemical technologies and experience.
The TPA PU produces and sells 420K M/T of high-purity TPA as an element of highly functional polyester textile, tire cords, PET bottles, polyester films, and other industrial and living materials. Based on its chemical expertise and experience, Hyosung produces the highest-quality and stable TPA through advanced methods and equipment and helps enhance the competitiveness of polyester-related manufacturers in various parts of the world including Asia and Europe aside from Korea.

Producer of NF3 used to manufacture semiconductors, LCD, and solar products among other advanced products.
Having developed and started the mass production of Nitron Fluorine Three (NF3 gas) in 2007, the Neochem PU has realized on-spec product manufacturing and sale within the shortest time possible by using Hyosungs know-how and technical competence in as well as advanced facilities to satisfy customers stringent requirements and shortening the quality approval process. Moreover, the unit has consistently expanded the production lines in accordance with the growth of the semiconductor and LCD markets to ensure stable supply chain and to produce a variety of products as a special gas professional.

Koreas first developer of 750kW and 2MW-class wind power generation systems. Developer of 5MW-class marine wind power system for government-funded projects.
The Wind Energy Business Division succeeded in the development and commercialization of the gearedtype 750kW wind power turbine. For the first time in Korea, the group was internationally certified by DEWIOCC, the German wind power generator certifier, for the 750kW and 2MW-class geared-type wind generation systems. The group began selling commercialized 2MW model - a key product - in 2011 and installed about 15MW facilities; it is currently planning on supplying turbines to Pyeongchang, Gangwon province. In addition, the group is currently developing 5MW turbines for marine operations; it is expected to contribute greatly to enhancing Koreas national competitiveness in wind power generation equipment development by being part of the 2.5GW marine wind power generation complex in the west and south coasts initiated by the government.

A leader in the heavy electric equipment, power electronics, power automation solutions, and energy systems, the Power & Industrial Systems R&D Center is a think-tank that has helped Hyosung grow into an international corporation in the heavy electric equipment and energy fields. The 100MVA STATCOM honored with the Korean technical award, the 345kV nuclear power plant transformer honored with the Energy Award, the 800kV gasinsulated switchgear honored with the Jang Young Sil Award, and other Koreas first technologies and the worlds second ultra high-voltage circuit breaker 1100kV gas-insulated switch (GIS) all show the history of our Power & Industrial Systems R&D Center characterized by embracing the challenge to be the first and the best in the field. Steel Wire Technical Center
The Steel Wire Technical Center, established in 1986 for the development of steel cord and bead wire as well as their production processes, has grown to be a research center specializing in steel material. Upon the accumulated technology and R&D competency, the Center has recently developed Wafer cutting wire used in the new-recycle energy (solar energy) and IT(semiconductor, LED) industries. In order to strengthen R&D in base technology and core competencies, the Center has built a new R&D facility in 2007 followed by the establishment of overseas technical center in order to secure technology for Global Excellence. The Center is ever since writing a history of challenges and achievements achieving high customer satisfaction. The Steel Wire Technical Center is continuously focusing on developing the worlds best technology that customers recognize through creating a stable infrastructure for R&D - securing the newest R&D facilities and skilled researchers. Renewable Energy
Hyosung produces energy in an ecological and clean manner using the wind, sunlight, and water generously provided by nature. By engaging in renewable energy development through wind power generation, solar energy generation, combined heat generation system, and fuel cell systems, we are realizing the ecological age where all the benefits of civilization are enjoyed without the use of fossil fuel a reality.
Wind Power Generation
Having established a wind power generation system for the first time in Korea with independent technologies, Hyosung is successfully operating wind power generation complexes in Jejudo, Daegi-ri Gangwon-do, and Maebongsan. We became Koreas first company to acquire international certification from DEWI-OCC, a prominent German wind power generation certifier. We are currently part of the government-assigned project for a 5MW marine wind power generation project as the project manager.

Solar Power Generation System
In 2007, Hyosung won the bid for the construction of a 3MW solar power plant in Samrangjin and completed the project using a turn-key method from design and material sourcing to installation and construction. Moreover, the company constructed a 1.6MW-class Taean Solarfarm solar power plant and operated it beginning July 2008. To respond effectively to climate change, the company plans to have the solar power plants registered as CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) businesses.
Fuel Cell System
Generating electric power and heat energy from city gas, Hyosungs domestic fuel cells are clean and quiet as well as energy-efficient since they generate electric power through a chemical reaction process.
Waste Disposal and Recycling

Environmental pollution is threatening life on planet Earth. Hyosung cleans the environment and recycles waste resources to make Earth healthier and provide ecological technologies for a more pleasant living space.
Waste Disposal Facilities
These facilities help reduce harmful substances such as dioxin generated from the incineration of wastes and reuse the thermal energy from the process. We are also combining this process with the food waste disposal process.

Apart from clean waste incineration, we are promoting gaseous fusion technology, an advanced technology to incinerate waste. Recently, we are realizing a resource recycling society through energy recovery businesses using high efficiency incineration power generation and technology to generate methane gas from food generation.

With global competitiveness in the Smart Grid technology that optimizes energy efficiency through real-time mutual information exchange between power suppliers and consumers based on power generation technologies and IT technologies, Hyosung became the first in Korea to supply 50MVA STATCOM to KEPCO in 2010.

Electrical Car Charging Station and Operation System
Hyosung provides a total solution necessary to establish an electrical car charging station including not only fast electric car chargers and slow electrical car charging stands but also operation systems as well as solar power generation systems connected to the station. Motor Power loss of this type of motor is reduced by 20~30% compared to conventional motors; efficiency is 3~18% higher, too. It is an ecological motor that generates less CO2. Hyosung manufactures high-efficiency pumps that saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions with its accumulated high-efficiency energy technologies. Hyosungs high-efficiency pumps are installed in Cheonggyecheon to facilitate clean water circulation and maximize energy efficiency.

Hyosung is the largest distributor of CNG filling facilities in Korea. Hyosung takes pride in providing LED lighting, an environment-friendly type of lighting that saves up to 90% of energy compared to conventional lighting; it does not emit any toxic substance, and it has developed for the first time in the world penetrative image display and interior lighting LED.
