EYES make 2 with H hook & black ch2 Round 1: 5sc in 2nd ch from hook, change to white, sc in same ch as 1st 5 sc, slip stitch to 1st dc. (6 sc)

Round 2: ch1, 2sc in each sc around, sl st to 1st sc. (12 sc) Fasten off, leaving a 12 tail to sew eyes to face. Facial features (eyebrows, nose, smile) are all done in a whip stitch. Use picture as a guide for placement.

SMOKE STACK with H hook & black begin with a magic ring, ch1 Round 1: 7 sc in ring, slip stitch to 1st sc. (7 sc) Round 2: ch1, crocheting in back loops only sc in each sc around, sl st to 1st sc. Round 3 5: ch1, sc in each sc. Fasten off. Sew smokestack to top of face.

Sew face onto hat. You will want to stuff some yarn scraps, or fill, behind the face so it stands out better.

NUMBER 1 make 2; one for each side of hat with E hook & yellow Piece 1 Ch6 Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each of next 3ch, turn. (4 hdc) Fasten off.

Piece 2 ch9

Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc each of next 6 chs across. (7 hdc) ch1, sl st in end. in 1st ch of opposite side: sl st in 2nd st on opposite side: hdc Fasten off. Sew top of #1 to base.

Border with red attach with sc, sc in each sc around, with 3 sc at the top of the 1 and (sl st, ch1, sl st) at the left point of the 1. Slip stitch in the bottom 2 corners where the base meets the top piece. Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew #1to sides of hat.

EARFLAPS (OPTIONAL) Using an H hook Begin with a magic ring Ch2, Round 1: 12dc in ring, slip stitch to 1st dc. (12 sc) Round 2: ch1, (dc, FPdc) in each stitch around, sl st to 1st dc. Sew top half of wheel to hat, underneath the #1.
