February 11, 2013 Dear Principal, As Galileo once said, We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves. From Peace Corps to the Chicago Teaching Residency (CTR), I have evolved personally and professionally while working with students who possess diverse needs and cultural backgrounds. In joining the Peace Corps I had one goal in mind: I wanted to experience another educational system because I believe that through comparison, one gains a deeper understanding of the context at hand. After two years of working in over ten schools in West Africa, I learned that adaptability, consistency, and collaboration are universal principles of education. My experiences in the Peace Corps enabled me to creatively tailor and deliver lesson plans for students with various learning needs at Bradwell School of Excellence. As I capitalized on various opportunities to learn about my students through journals and conversations, I was able to better differentiate my lessons. During my residency, I was also able develop as an educator through my use of the BMC, rotating learning centers, and Signature Strategies. As an AUSL resident, I have also had the fortune of working with a mentor that has brought insight into my instruction through constant feedback and communication. Along with these experiences, I have also: Administered MAP assessments and utilized data to guide planning and grouping Used data to structure small groups and differentiate instruction Designed and delivered lesson plans to three sections of 7th grade students Collaborated with colleagues around planning and best practices Enhanced and maintained a positive and safe classroom environment Communicated with families around student growth

Currently, I am seeking the opportunity to join your AUSL school team. I feel as though the skills and experiences I have gained through teaching in CPS and West Africa make me a valuable asset to your school and its community. Thank you for your time, and I welcome the opportunity to speak with you in order to further discuss my qualifications.

Sincerely,

Evelyn Duniecki
