About This Chapter

The following table lists the contents of this chapter.

Section

Describes

5.1 Process and Service

This section describes the concepts of the process and service and their relationship.

5.2 Process and Service List

This section describes the DMS process and the related process list.

5.3 Managing Process

This section describes the common operations of managing the process.

5 Process and Service Management

iManager N2000 DMS Datacomm Network Management System Administrator Guide

5.1 Process and Service

A process is a program or a part of a program. A service is a user-oriented function. Each service is based on a process. The process is responsible for communicating with the system .The service is more related to application.

When the DMS runs normally, the sever starts multiple processes, and each process provides different services.

5.2 Process and Service List

Table 5-1 lists the details of the DMS process.

5.3 Managing Process

The DMS provides the N2000 System Monitor (a graphical system monitor management tool) to manage the processes.

5 Process and Service Management

iManager N2000 DMS Datacomm Network Management System Administrator Guide

The N2000 System Monitor provides the following process management functions:

Starting the process

Stopping the process

Setting the startup mode

Setting the process information sampling

startup mode Setting the process information sampling In daily maintenance, it is recommended to view only

In daily maintenance, it is recommended to view only the process information. Do not perform other operations. Improper operations might affect the operation of the DMS.

5.3.1 Start Mode

The modes of starting the DMS process include four types.

Automatic

When the system is started, the process is automatically started. In the automatic mode, the system automatically restarts the process when the process exits abnormally.

Manual

When the system is started, the process is not automatically started. The process must be started manually. In the manual mode, the system does not automatically restart the process when the process exits abnormally.

Disabled

The process cannot be started. The system cannot automatically restart this process. The process cannot be started manually. This process can be restarted only after the process is set to be in the automatic or manual mode.

External

It is the fixed mode of the Database server process and cannot be modified.

5.3.2 Starting Process

Description

Start the DMS service process manually, which is stopped or abnormal.

Precaution

The process, whose starting mode is "Disabled", cannot be automatically or manually restarted.

When the system is started, the process in automatic mode can be started automatically.

Procedure

Step 1

Log in to the DMS system monitor client N2000 System Monitor.

Step 2

Select the Process tab.

The system displays the information of all controllable processes in form of list.

Step 3

Select one or more pieces of information to start the process. Right-click the Start Process menu.

The system starts this process.

5.3.3 Stoping Process

Description

Manually stop unnecessary DMS service processes to improve running performance of the server.

Precaution

Stopping the process affects the DMS function. So, do not perform any operations randomly.

The system can manage the process only after the process, which is stopped manually, is started manually.

Procedure

Step 1

Log in to the system monitor client N2000 System Monitor.

Step 2

Select the Process tab.

The system displays the information of all controllable processes in form of list.

Step 3

Select one or more pieces of information to stop the process. Right-click the Start Process menu.

The system stops this process.

----End

5.3.4 Setting the Start Mode

Description

Set the mode of starting the service process.

Precaution

Changing the mode of starting the process affects the DMS functions. So, do not perform any operations randomly.

Procedure

Step 1

Log in to the system monitor client N2000 System Monitor.

Step 2

Select the Process tab.

The system displays the information of all controllable processes in the form of list.

Step 3

Select one or more pieces of information to start the process. Right-click the Start Process menu. Select a proper starting mode.

5.3.5 Setting the Process Information Sampling

Description

Configure the manual or automatic sampling parameters of process information.

Procedure

Step 1

Log in to the system monitor client N2000 System Monitor.

Step 2

Choose the Process tab. The system displays all monitored processes information in the form of list.

Step 3

Select one or more pieces of information to start the process. Right-click to choose the Manual Sampling or Automatic Sampling Setting item.

Manual Sampling

Perform one process information sampling. Save the sampling results to the $N2000ROOT/server/conf/log/report directory. The format of the file to be saved is .csv.Enter the manual sampling file name, as shown in Figure 5-1.

Automatic Sampling Setting

Set automatic sampling parameters of system process information. The system samples the process information periodically. Save the sampling results to the $N2000ROOT/server/conf/log/report directory. The format of the file to be saved is .csv.
