Interview Format at each UK Medical School

Belfast Applicants: 860 Places: 250 Interview: No interview for undergraduates

Barts Applicants: 2000 Places: 260 Interview: panel (receive an ethics article in the post to discuss)

Birmingham Applicants: 3000 Places: 330 Interview: 20 minute panel interview

BSMS Applicants: 138 Places: 2700 Interview: 20 minute Panel interview (550 candidates invited)

Cambridge: Applicants: 1700 Places: 275 Interview: 90 % of applicants are interviewed, usually one to one but differs between colleges.

Cardiff: Applicants: 2700-3000 Places: 304 Interview: panel of 3 people 20 minutes (1000 candidates interviewed) UEA: Applicants: 1800 Places: 130 Interview: OSCE style (7 mini stations) Scenario on chair outside, 1 minute to read question, go into room and discuss for 5 minutes. 600 candidates interviewed (one place for every 4 applicants)

Edinburgh Applicants: 2750 Places: 202 No interview Glasgow: Applicants: 2000 Places: 223 Interview: Panel 2 members. Semi- structure style interview Asses communication skills, your knowledge of Medicine, personality match questions & Curriculum based questions

Kings: Applicants: 3500 Places: 335 Interview: 30 minute panel interview. You receive an article when you get there- usually ethics. (1000 candidates interviewed).

Imperial: Applicants: 2200 Places: 280 Interview: January- March (as start sifting after the BMAT in November) Panel interview with 3 people, usually a doctor, an academic and a student representative. Assesses you commitment to medicine & knowledge about the career (i.e. work experience)

Keele Applicants: 1700 Places: 130 Interview: 20 Min panel interview

Leicester Applicants: 2200 Places: 162 Interview: 20 minute Panel interview 950 people interviewed. (2 people on the panel for example a GP & a Final year Medical student) Topics asked about are motivation, teamwork, professional issues, career development, and personal qualities Plus 30 minute written exercise.

Liverpool Applicants: 2500 Places: 268 UK students, 24 overseas students Interview: November- February, 15 minute informal chat- personal statement orientated. 2 people on the panel. (900 candidates interviewed) Manchester Applicants: 2700 Places: 350 Interview: Group discussion for 30 minutes then 3 x 6 minute questions Newcastle: Applicants: 3000+ Places: 220 Interview: 2 people on the panel, 30 Min interview. (1000 candidates interviewed) Topics asked about: Commitment to caring, communication skills, ethics, career progression, learning styles, tertiary interests, attributes, NHS, Why Newcastle

Sheffield Applicants: 2500 Places: 2250 Interview: 20 min panel interview. (600 candidates interviewed.) Southampton Applicants: 3000 Places: 260 no interview St Georges Applicants: 1300 Places: 130 Interview: Multi Mini interviews. 8 x 5 minute interviews. Topics asked: Medical careers, Motivation, task e.g how to solve a problem and reason through it, role plays to asses communication skills, work experience (last year 850 candidates were interviewed- there is no cap on number interviewed)

UCL Applicants: 2500 Places: 230 Interview: 20 min panel interview with 3 interviewers. (750 candidates interviewed.) Warwick (graduate only) Applicants: 1800 Places: 178 Interview: 384 candidates interviewed- half day group event.
