THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BSIE GRADUATES OF ZCSPC IN THE LICENSURE EXAMINATION FOR TEACHERS SCHOOL YEARS 2001-2005

Abstract This study was undertaken to determine the correlation between the grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) students in their professional, general education areas and in their field of specialization and their performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers from school year 2001 - 2002 to school year 2004 2005. The documentary analysis descriptive research designed was adopted. There were one-hundred and seventy-five BSIE graduates of the College of Education who became the subjects of the study. Their scholastic grades/records available at the Office of the College Registrar and their ratings in the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Licensure Examination for Teachers were utilized for analysis and interpretation. The findings of the study indicated the following: 1) the highest performance of the BSIE graduates in the Licensure Examination for Teachers was in school year 2004-2005 with 34.4 passing percentage; followed by school year 2002-2003 with 18.60 percent; school year 2003-2004 with 9.30 passing percentage; school year 2001-2002 with 8.82 percent; and the lowest passing percentage was registered in school year 2000-2001 with 4.35 percent; 2)there was a low and no significant correlation between professional education grades of the BSIE graduates and their performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers; 3) there was a low and no significant correlation between the general education grades of the BSIE graduates and their performance in this area in the Licensure Examination for Teachers; 4) there was a low and no significant correlation between the grades in the fields of specialization of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) graduates and their performance in this area in the Licensure Examination for Teachers; and 5) there was a low and no significant correlation between the general scholastic grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) students and their overall performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers. It was concluded that: 1) the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) graduates of the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 had low performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers; 2) the professional education grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) graduates were not significantly correlated to their performance in the professional education component of the Licensure Examination for Teachers; 3) the general education grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) graduates were not significantly correlated to their performance in the general education component of the Licensure Examination for Teachers; 4) the grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education graduates in their respective fields of specialization were not significantly correlated to their performance in the specialization component of the Licensure Examination for Teachers; and 5) the general scholastic grades of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE) graduates were not significantly correlated to their over-all performance in the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
