Shariece D. Smith 1707 D Arrington Circle, North Chicago, IL 60064 309-868-5786 shariecesmith@gmail.com _____________________________________________________________________________ January 25, 2013 AUSL Principal 3400 N. Austin Ave. Chicago, IL 60634 Dear Principal: My success as an educator does not rest on the strength of mediocre improvements, but it carries the weight of change. I determine my success as an educator by the daily progress that students make. If every day, I can see one student build confidence, raise the standards for their life, becoming immune to negativity, work to better themselves and establish self-worth; I then will feel like a powerful and effective educator. Therefore, providing educational knowledge that can be utilized in all elements of a students life regardless of their learning ability is my ultimate goal. Please accept my letter of application for an elementary/or middle school teaching position at an AUSL School. With my undergraduate degree, urban education preparation graduate degree, and yearlong residency at Morton School of Excellence, I am prepared to utilize my skills, residency experience, and knowledge teaching 5-8th grade Mathematics. My resume will demonstrate that I have pursed a wide variety of employment experiences that have provided me with significant understanding of child development and pedagogy to help assist me in my quest to becoming an outstanding teacher. My yearlong teaching residency has given me the opportunity to observe a variety of teaching styles, philosophies, and pedagogies. AUSL has made me aware that students respond best in a multitude of different settings by advancing my knowledge in designing creative and stimulating lessons plans, which accommodate multiple intelligences, bring a hands-on approach to learning, and keep students engaged in learning. I have also developed the necessary skills to motivate students and manage classroom behavior. I have come to appreciate the value of sustaining a strong home-school relationship and have had the opportunity to work on ways most beneficially to achieving that goal. I am confident that I will be effective, exceptional, and diligent at creating a valuable learning experience. I am excited to work for an AUSL school who values the same fundamental ideas of education that I value. Thank you for taking the time to review my credentials. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have at your convenience. Sincerely,

Shariece Smith
