This project is to design the game switch device on the pattern of Jeopardy, where the number of players playing a particular game push the switch, whenever they are ready with the answer. The gaming switch will detect which player pushed the switch first, by lighting an illuminating device. Your design should be modular, which can be expanded or contracted, depending upon the number of participants in the game.

This can be an individual or a team project. Problem Statement: This project is to design the game switch device on the pattern of Jeopardy, where the number of players playing a particular game push the switch, whenever they are ready with the answer. The game switch will detect which player pushed the switch first, by lighting an illuminating device. Find the minimum time lag between the switches, that can be detected by the device, in the event of any two switches being closed together. Your design should be modular, which can be expanded or contracted, depending upon the number of participants in the game. Design the circuits, by first choosing the appropriate components, keeping the size and cost constraints in mind. Synthesize the circuit and test it. Deliverables: A report including: 1. A sketch of design process. 2. Determine the circuit equations. 3. Layout of the circuit diagram 4. Constraints and limitations.. 5. Cost of project. 6. Measurement of the minimum time separation which can be detected. 7. Demonstration of the modularity of the system Evaluation criteria: Uniqueness and originality of design, Written report.

Engineering Notes:

Objectives/Comments: This is a project which can be used at junior or senior level. It would provide the student with the opportunity to translate the digital sequential circuit design process into building something of great practical use.

Discussion/follow on activities: This could lead into the design of commercial game switch device. A further extension of it would be to detect the order of the second or third participants.
