Chapter LXXIV: Jackets and Umbrellas

Staring at the ceiling that morning, Jin heard the raindrops hitting the window pane outside the bedroom. He did not move. He sighed and glanced at the clock. It was about time to change and go to school now. Last night, he had dreamed about taking Jezebelle to his elementary school and then, he had dreamed of her leaving him there without a real explanation as to why. Jin laughed to himself and rolled to the edge of the bed. What a nightmare. Getting off the bed, Jin noticed that he was in Jezebelle's room. It was the same as always. Everyone was in place from the hat stands to the desks filled with beauty supplies. Jin left the room and went through his morning routine when his mother peeked inside and asked him for Jezebelle. Fi? asked Jin, thinking. What do you mean? I haven't seen her this morning. Is that so? His mother frowned at Jin. She's important. If you lose her, your father loses his job. Jin nodded in understanding. If it's you, I can trust you with her. Just be careful. I understand, said Jin with a bright smile. Take care, Mom. Good boy, Jin. In the back of Jin's head, he told himself that Jezebelle must have slept over at one of her friends' homes without asking him ahead of time. It was something Jezebelle would do. There was nothing to worry about. Once he arrived in first period, he would smile at her from across the room. She would roll her eyes at him and talk to Alejandro or Juliet. Yes, Jezebelle would definitely be there. Nothing was wrong with their relationship. On school grounds, Jin greeted everyone he knew as usual. People crowded around him to ask him advice on various things. But soon enough, it became glaringly obvious that Jezebelle was missing by Jin's side. Jin had a much harder time answering any questions that had to do with female issues. None of them noticed that Jin was dumfounded by some issues that Jezebelle usually answered since he hastily made excuses to head for first period. He might run into Jezebelle on the way there. Instead, he bumped into another duo on their way to the same classroom. I am so going to fail that Calc test today, said Jordan, groaning. Stop saying that, said Rin sharply. You know this material. Yeah, but I suck so much at math... Rin rolled her eyes. You won't get an A with that attitude! Watch, said Jordan, sighing. I'm going to fall asleep in the middle of my test, thanks to you. Thanks to me? How can you place the blame on me? Jordan pointed at his eyes. I have bags under my eyes, okay? It's all because you made me sleep in the same bed as you. Look at me! I slept just fine! You have no idea how much suffering I'm going through... Rin poked Jordan in the arm. Man up, Jordan Greene. You're going to ace that test. Oh, said Jordan, noticing Jin walking close by. Good morning- Jordan stopped

himself and returned his attention to Rin. We have to review during nutrition. Calc? What else? Rin glanced in Jin's direction. Fine. It's better to be safe than sorry. Bailey and Joseph Cruz can help too, said Jordan, smiling. Oh, that's a great idea, said Rin, loosening up. Oh wait, said Jordan, remembering. It's pouring outside. We probably won't see them. There goes my great idea. Oh, stop being so negative, said Rin, laughing. Rin turned her head to Jin with a smile. Good morning, Jin. Good morning, said Jin in reply. Hey, said Jordan, pushing her with his elbow. You're not supposed to bother Jin. Can't we even say hello? asked Rin, scowling. Have either of you seen Fi? asked Jin, trying to sound normal. Jordan frowned. I don't think so. How do you lose someone who lives with you? asked Rin, lifting a brow. Oh, all right, said Jin, widening his fake smile. Thanks anyways. With that, Jin hurried and went inside the first period classroom before Rin and Jordan. Rin frowned after Jin. Jordan noticed the look on Rin's face and asked her what was going on since he wasn't quite sure what to make of this. Jin is pretending that everything is okay, said Rin softly. I can tell. The instincts of a childhood friend? Rin nodded. It's quite useful. Jin... said Jordan, feeling down all of a sudden at this news. He hasn't been happy in a long time. Rin agreed wholeheartedly. I really think this popularity thing is affecting him. I think it's more Fi-Fi than the popularity issue, said Rin sadly. If it's Jezebelle, said Jordan, wrapping his arm around Rin and pulling her to him. I don't think there's anything I can do about that. No, Jordan, it's 'we'. Jordan dug his face in Rin's hair. Yes, 'we'. Stop it, said Rin, ducking under Jordan's arm. Jordan looked hurt. Kristian might see us. And? And... said Rin, thinking of an excuse quickly. How fair is it that I'm protected from seeing him with other girls, but not the other way around? Jordan grinned. Nice try, Ri-chan. Let's go inside. I'm telling the truth! Much to Rin's surprise, her new table partner was no longer Kristian. Instead, Jezebelle smirked beautifully up at Rin and greeted her. Rin did a double-take and checked if this was indeed her seat. It was. Then, where was Kristian? In her search, Rin found Kristian where Jezebelle used to be. He was chatting merrily with Juliet and laughed with Alejandro. Again, like before, Rin felt her heart beat rapidly at the sight of him. However, she forced herself to pay attention to Jezebelle instead. Why? asked Rin, slamming her hand on the table. Shiratori asked me to, said Jezebelle innocently. I don't want to sit next to you, said Rin, narrowing her eyes. And why not? We were getting along so well recently, too.

Rin glared at Jezebelle. You did something to Jin. I can tell. What? asked Jezebelle, glancing away. I have no idea what you're talking about. While Rin and Jezebelle continued on that conversation, Jordan watched Jin in the back of the classroom. Jin hid his face behind his Spanish book. Jordan knew something was up since Jin rarely studied for Spanish, or any of his other classes really. There was definitely something wrong with Jin. Should he talk to Jin about it? Didn't they agree not to talk to each other until everything was resolved though? What should he do? Oh, you're back, said Vance to Jin in a condescending voice. Jin sighed. Yeah. Sorry about the past week. Whatever, said Vance, shrugging. It didn't matter much. Hey Vance... What do you want? You're the last person I want to ask about this, but, said Jin, hesitating. When your girlfriend says she wants to move out and back into her old house, does that mean she wants to break up with you? Vance tapped a pen against the desk. Is this hypothetical? Er... The way most people break up in relationships are highly inefficient, said Vance in a monotone. Your case only further proves that. Jin was annoyed now. I knew talking to you wouldn't help. Yet, you did it anyway. Shut it. Vance smirked. Fail. Truthfully, Jin had gone up to Jezebelle immediately and asked her what was going on. Jezebelle simply told him that she had moved back to her old house for a while. In a few weeks, she would move back in with his family because she had to, but not right now. Jin was so lost. Did they break up or not? Or were they taking a break from each other for a while? And more importantly, what did Jezebelle mean by her words last night? What was really the reason for separating like this? This was going to bug him for the duration of first period. Fi, said Jin, grabbing her arm on her way out from the end of first period. Gummy bear, said Jezebelle, addressing him with a smirk. We need to talk, said Jin, sighing. Jezebelle tilted her head. About what? About last night. I thought I explained everything, said Jezebelle, acting cute. Jin shook his head. But I didn't understand any of it. Hey Tilly, said Kristian, leaving the classroom with Cory, Gary, and Juliet. Isn't your class across campus? If you don't move it, you'll be late. Kristian, said Jin, surprised. When do you start talking to Fi? Since forever, said Kristian, lifting a brow. Jezebelle released her arm from Jin's grip. Are you okay, Jin? You're not sick are you? I hope not... said Jin weakly. I have nothing more to say, said Jezebelle quickly, heading down the opposite end of the hallway away from Jin. Jin blinked and chased after her, Fi, wait! Hey Jin, said Kristian, stopping Jin from following her. What's up? I'm sorry, Kristian, but Fi-

Kristian had a serious expression on his face. Just wondering. How long have you known about the affair between your two friends? Surprised, Jin muttered, I'm not sure... I thought we were friends. We are friends, Kristian. Then, said Kristian, leaning toward Jin with hard eyes. Why is it that you kept the secret from me? At least, Tilly tried to hint to me about it. What did you do, Jin? Kristian, I don't think it's really the time for it. Forget it, said Kristian, waving it off. Both you and Jordan betrayed me. What happened to bros over hos? Jin had no answer and dropped his head. Turning away from Jin, Kristian licked his lips and also went down the hallways with his friends. I won't forgive you- any of you. Kristian felt bitter and angry at the same time. For working together against me. Kristian? asked Juliet softly. Kristian changed face and said sweetly to her, So, how's your day so far, sweetie? At the end of second period, Jin hurried out of his class to find Jezebelle to talk things out. He wasn't going to give up. He loved her. If he had really been dumped yesterday, he had to know the real reason why. Much to Jin's surprise, he just left the building and opened his umbrella when he noticed Wendy running toward him, soaked from top to bottom from the rain. Jin Song! I found you! Wendy, said Jin, relieved. Thank goodness. Listen to me, said Wendy, grabbing a hold of Jin's sleeve and shaking it. Jezebelle is going to do something horrible and- Horrible? repeated Jin in horror. To herself? No! said Wendy, shaking. She's planning something horrible! Calm down, said Jin, holding Wendy tightly. Wendy gulped and nodded. Now, please tell me what is going on slowly. Last Saturday, said Wendy, breathing in deeply. She had this meeting while you were not being yourself. Jin nodded, understanding everything so far. Thanks to that meeting, I know what she's up to. I know what her real goal is. Wendy paled. I wanted to tell you earlier, but you hadn't been yourself. It doesn't matter! You're here now! Back and the same as always! Wendy paused and regained her breath. Anyways, I really like her, Jin Song, but I really like you too. And I know that if I tell you everything, I'm betraying her, but it doesn't matter because I think she's going down the wrong path and I want to save- What are you doing, Willis? Jin and Wendy turned to see Xuan Lan blinking up at them under a small, pink umbrella. She was wearing a yellow raincoat along with yellow boots. Jin was relieved at the sight of her and said, Oh, it's only you, Lolita. Willis, said Xuan Lan, ignoring Jin. Are you betraying Jesse? Wendy gasped for breath. No... of course not... Ashoo, said Xuan Lan, tilting her head cutely. I'm glad to hear that. Xuan Lan pushed Wendy away from Jin. Come on, Willis! We should go see Jesse already! Jin followed Xuan Lan. Lolita, I need to talk to Fi too. But Onii-chan, said Xuan Lan, frowning. Jesse doesn't want to see you. Jin gawked at her. Why not? Jin Song, said Wendy in interruption, moving around Xuan Lan and grabbing a handful of Jin's sleeve. No matter what happens, you can't let Tiffany-

Willis! said Xuan Lan, surprised. What are you talking about? It hurts my head... Suddenly, Wendy noticed a shadow over her body. Jin elevated his eyes to see Alejandro standing behind Xuan Lan and staring straight at Wendy. Defeated, Wendy tossed Jin a sad smile before she followed them away. Jin blinked. That smile. Wendy reminded Jin of a comrade in a video game that was about to be sacrificed for the sake of the world. Wendy... said Jin, hurrying after them. Wendy! Before Jin could do anything, he was surrounded by the football team. Matt was leading the bunch of them. They pushed Jin so hard that he accidentally dropped his black umbrella on the ground. In the back of the football team, Jin noticed that Bo was trying his best to avoid Jin's eyes. What was going on? Why was everything happening at once? Why now of all times? Thanks to the sight of the football team and Jin, everyone crowded around to see what was going on. I'm not saying you did it, said Matt immediately. But we heard some rumors about how you went to see our captain Tristan yesterday. Yes, I did, said Jin honestly. We also heard about how you talked and talked him into not returning to football for the rest of the season. Jin's eyes widened. No, I didn't! What did you talk to him about, then? asked another member. I... said Jin, looking down. Who could have spread these rumors? Where were they getting these rumors from? I wanted to know when he's planning to return to school. That was all I said. What do you think? asked Matt to the others. I don't know, said Lil, frowning. I like Jin, but isn't it too convenient that his girlfriend suddenly shows up in the nick of time to train us? As the football team continued to interrogate him, Jin kept staring silently at Bo, who remained silent. Jin couldn't believe it. Wasn't Bo going to say anything to defend him? They had been friends for years now. Was Bo going to abandon him right now? By the end of the interrogation, Matt and the others decided to leave Jin alone for now. They hadn't gathered enough evidence to place the blame on him. Quickly, they went around him. When Bo passed by him, Jin had to grab his arm and stop him. Bo glanced back at Jin with a sad expression on his face. Bo? Yo. Jin was hurt at how emotionless his tone was. What's going on? Why did you and Hamada-sama get into a fight yesterday? asked Bo suddenly. Er... said Jin, taken aback. You heard about it? I heard she slapped you and ran away right after wards. Jin frowned. Something like that... You got into a fight with Jordan too, said Bo, keeping his voice steady. Yeah, something like that. Is it wrong for me to ask for specifics? asked Bo incredulously. No, it's not wrong, said Jin quickly, defensive. Bo frowned. Why won't you tell me what really happened, Jin? I'm not so sure of the details myself, said Jin honestly, leaning down to pick up his fallen umbrella. Bo refused to remove his eyes off Jin. But please, Bo, believe me. Rinchan, Jordan, and I made up already. It was all one big misunderstanding. I believe you, said Bo, nodding.

Thanks. It's Fi who I don't believe. Jin searched the ground for an answer, Fi hasn't done anything wrong. Are you sure about that, Jin? asked Bo cautiously. Yeah. Bo shifted his attention elsewhere. You trust her too much. It will be your downfall. Bo stomped away in the rain. The football team is beginning to distrust you. Who else will join them in this chain reaction? Frowning after Bo, Jin decided to put away his umbrella. He would rather soak in the rain. It didn't matter if Jezebelle betrayed him. He had to talk to her no matter what. He wanted to hear everything from her own lips. Even if she decided to lie to him, at least he would try to understand her and everything she was planning first. Jin stared up at the darkening sky. He never really liked the month of October in the first place. Meanwhile, for Rin, she looked up at the same sky and said, Stupid Jordan. He stole my extra umbrella. How am I supposed to go see him at the field now? Ri-chan! Never mind. Jordan beamed at the sight of her under a large umbrella. Let's go? That's your plan all along, said Rin, ducking her head from his arm and standing next to him. Jordan laughed at her. They walked together under the umbrella. Where are we going? You'll know it when we get there. Since it was a rainy day, Rin and Jordan couldn't meet up with Bailey and Joseph Cruz. Jordan and Rin hid behind a wall and waited until a PE teacher left the gym. Like last time, Jordan quickly ran over and grabbed the door out for Rin. Since Rin was the one holding the umbrella, Jordan had been soaked from the few seconds after he had left it. Once they were inside, Rin had to dry Jordan's hair with his towel. He was sitting on the bench in front of his shared locker with Jin. Sorry about that, said Jordan, tossing her a sweet smile over his shoulder. Rin pouted and pulled his hair. You're hopeless. Ouch, said Jordan, frowning. That hurt. Serves you right. How do you like my jacket? Before they had left for school, Jordan had lent Rin his basketball team jacket to replace the usual jersey she wore to protect herself from the other girls. Since Rin was so small in general, the jacket was more than twice her size. Jordan could tell she was warm in it though. When he held her hand under the umbrella, it was unbelievably warm, compared to his. Jordan was glad that she could be warm on this rainy day. It's nice, I guess, said Rin, walking around so she could face him instead. Your face is wet too. Is it still handsome though? Rin laughed and wiped his right cheek with the towel. No, you're really ugly now. At her comment, Jordan grabbed a hold of her wrist with one hand and removed the towel from her fingers with the other hand. Then, he proceeded to kiss her fingers. Rin was too stunned to say or do anything until Jordan stopped at her ring finger and smirked up at her. Blushing, Rin glanced away. Sorry, said Jordan under his breath. My lips are icy cold. I know, said Rin, breathless.

They're warmer now. That's good. Jordan blinked at Rin. I really like rainy days. I don't, said Rin immediately. Oh? asked Jordan, surprised. Why not? It's wet and awful to walk around in, said Rin, being practical. Jordan laughed. What are you? A witch? Water will make you disappear? Rin glared and smacked Jordan against the shoulder. Are you calling me a witch, Jordan Greene? Maybe, said Jordan, flinching. Please don't hurt me. I can't hurt you when you're being honest, said Rin, sighing. Jordan had a shy smile on his face now. Also, I am pretty mean. Oh, so you are conscious of it! Jordan! Jordan jerked away. Sorry. Just a warning, said Rin, releasing a long, tired sigh. I'm really fatigued on rainy days. I feel so drained just by looking at the sky. In other words, I'm more passive than usual. It's the same with me, really, except weirdness. Weirdness? asked Rin curiously, asking for clarification. Jordan pressed Rin's hand to his lips. I feel empty. Do you feel that way right now? After some hesitation and silence, Jordan laughed weakly in amusement and said, We should go all the way in this relationship, Ri-chan. Rin reddened. Jordan, that's way too fast! It's a short-term relationship, said Jordan in a solemn voice. It's not fast. But still! I mean, your father already thinks you're pregnant with my child, said Jordan, dropping Rin's hands. If we hurry, we can still make it happen and change that lie. You already know if I'm really pregnant, I'll have an abortion. Jordan lifted his eyes at her. Really? Blushing, Rin muttered, Yes... I'll have no say at all? asked Jordan, hurt. Thanks to Jordan's sad, painful expression, Rin was unable to look at Jordan in the eye and said quickly, Why are we talking so much about a hypothetical situation anyways? It's not going to happen. I feel like, said Jordan, dropping his head. I should leave something worthwhile behind. Jordan held his right hand above his eyes. My looks are the only thing going for me and you are the only person I have left so... Finally, Rin understood. Jordan! Not again! Let's be reasonable, said Jordan, keeping his eyes on the ground. I'm not going to get married anytime soon. I don't have enough money for a shotgun marriage either. What else can I do to pass on the only good thing about me? You're so stupid, said Rin, throwing off his jacket. When the jacket hit the floor, Jordan found his head against Rin's shoulder. Since he remained sitting on the bench, he was at exactly the right height. Jordan became teary as he pressed his head deeper into her shoulder. Ri-chan... said Jordan, stuttering.

You're so blind to your own good traits, said Rin in an almost scolding tone. I don't have any good traits. That's not true, said Rin fiercely, releasing Jordan and gazing into his eyes intently. You're way better than me at English and know a lot of sociology and psychology. You give really good advice and you're understanding towards other people's feelings. Also, you're pretty charming and easy to talk to. Rin stopped and smiled brightly. See? Lots of good traits. But... said Jordan, sniffing back tears. None of that matters when it comes to Jin! Rin was taken aback. That's why you're like this? Yes! You should tell me, said Rin, sighing. I'm sorry... About Jin... said Rin, frowning. Doesn't it seem abnormal to you that he and Fi-Fi are not together? And how he runs away when you asked about him losing her when they live together? Rin blinked. He did? You really should pay more attention to things, Ri-chan. I'm working on that, said Rin, scowling. Moving on, said Jordan, returning to his serious tone. I feel like I can't do anything for him since I couldn't even fucking say hello to him correctly this morning. You need to be more aggressive, said Rin, nodding. Like Kristian? Rin lowered her eyes. Not that aggressive. The point still stands, correct? asked Jordan carefully. Sure, said Rin, giving up. Her heart was pounding too loudly in her ears. Why not? Sitting up straight, Jordan said sadly, I'm so messed up right now. I don't know what I want right now. On one hand, I don't want that bitch to be with him and it's my chance to make my move. On the other hand, Jin really loves her, said Rin, shaking her head. Jordan looked up at Rin. This finishing each other thought thing we have going on right now is truly frightening. It's only because it's Jin-related and we're on the same page, said Rin quickly. Oh, that must be it. Happy that Jordan failed to notice how defensive she felt, Rin continued, You were saying? Right, said Jordan, thinking back. You're such a distraction, Ri-chan. Am not! I remember, said Jordan, coughing to clear his throat. The thing is, like you said, Jin likes her and he is happiest when he's with her. I feel like such a villain for stealing him away when all three of us have already made up our minds. What am I to do? What is the right thing to do? Steal him, said Rin, decisive. What about you? Rin shrugged. It doesn't matter! I'll talk to him during sixth period like always, said Jordan, sighing. It's the only

thing I can do for now. Rin nodded in agreement. I feel like I'm undeserving of both him and you. I hate myself. You shouldn't, said Rin, picking up his jacket and wiping the dust away. I like you enough. Does that mean you forgive me? asked Jordan, hopeful. Rin sighed and wore her jacket. Don't look at me like that. I swear I'll never call you 'Nerd' again? Fine, said Rin, hugging Jordan to her shoulder. I give in too easily. Thanks by the way. For what? Jordan released a sigh of content. For listing all my good qualities. I feel better. Much better. For a few minutes, they remained like that until Rin gasped and pounded Jordan on the head with a calculus book. They had less than five minutes left of nutrition for Jordan to review for his third period math test. Rin sat next to Jordan and watched him review the notes in the book she had left for him. Rin thought about Jordan stealing Jin away from Jezebelle again. Why was she feeling bad for Jezebelle all of a sudden? After the warning bell rang, Jordan dropped Rin off at her classroom. He had to avoid Kristian's gaze from inside. Sometimes, Jordan forgot that Kristian had five classes with Rin. It must be hard for her. Hurrying to his class, Jordan made it inside the classroom a few seconds before the bell. Jordan quickly sat down and crammed a couple of final equations. He glanced in Jin's direction once. Jin was playing his DS. It had been a while since Jin did this during class. Jordan wanted to talk to Jin, but at the thought of Rin and the tutoring, Jordan decided that he had better concentrate on his test. He needed this A. He was going to change for the better. This was what Jin wanted right? During the test, Jin kept glancing in Jordan's direction. Jin wanted to cry, but he held back. He was in class and in the middle of a test. He had hoped on the inside that Jordan would say something to him. Anything would be better than nothing. In the end, though, Jordan had kept his silence. Jin didn't blame him though. Jin was the one who pushed both of his best friends away. He wasn't supposed to talk to them outside of sixth period anymore. He had made his decision long ago, so he should stick to it. At the sound of the bell, Jin blinked at his half-finished test. He failed the test for sure. Last night, he couldn't think of anything or anyone besides Jezebelle. Jezebelle didn't want to see him anymore. She wouldn't pick up her phone. She wouldn't see or talk to him for more than a few minutes today. Surely, she hated him now. He had done something to upset her. He must have done something to her last week. Why couldn't he remember what exactly? Did he really rape her? I aced that test, said Jordan happily to himself after he turned in the test. Jordan turned his head over to Jin. Jin, how did you- In the middle of Jordan's question, Jin got up from his seat. Jin had a dazed, lost look on his face as he left the classroom. Astonished, Jordan went after Jin after he took out and opened his umbrella. There was something weird going on around here. First of all, Jin had returned to his gaming ways. Didn't he stop thanks to Jezebelle? Second of all, Jin was usually surrounded by his admirers. Today, no one was getting near Jin. What was going on around here? Jin, said Jordan, catching up to Jin. Jordan held the umbrella over Jin's head. You're drenched! What does it mean to be bored of someone? asked Jin sadly.

Jordan blinked. Huh? Does it mean, said Jin, searching for the right words, you don't need them anymore? Stunned, Jordan asked, Who said that to whom? I'm sorry, Jordan. What? What's going on? Jin took a few steps forward so he could feel the rain on his head. He was thankful for the rain all of a sudden. This way, he could still pretend to be strong. Out of everyone, Jin didn't want Jordan to see this helpless, weak side of him. He was supposed to be strong enough to take Jordan's place. He was supposed to be someone Jordan could depend on, not the other way around. Jin didn't want to burden Jordan with his problems. Jordan was free from the food chain. He was with the person he loved. There was no need for him to get involved with Jin's problems. I'm sorry, Jordan, repeated Jin, feeling the most painful feeling in his chest. I'm not supposed to talk to you. Jordan's eyes widened. Jin... I didn't keep my word. Jin, that's not the problem here! Jin remained quiet. Jordan was too persistent. Knowing Jordan, he wouldn't leave Jin alone unless Jin told him why he was asking these useless questions. Jin had to get around this. He couldn't tell Jordan. Jordan was too much of an empathetic person to leave Jin alone. He would feel sorry for Jin. He would blame himself. Decisive, Jin turned around and tried his best to glare back at Jordan. I don't want to talk to you! Can't you understand English? Jin, said Jordan, paling. Are you changing- No, said Jin in a lowered tone than before. Jin stared at the ground. He could hear a voice in his head now. He's laughing right now. Laughing? Jin laughed out loud in disbelief. Yeah! He's laughing! He's very happy. Why? asked Jordan, scared. You're so annoying, said Jin, sighing and hurrying on his way. We'll be late to class if we don't hurry. Jin! Throughout the entire walk to fourth period, Jordan tagged along Jin's side and bombarded him with questions. Jin refused to answer any of them. He wouldn't even look at Jordan in the eye. He kept his silence as well. He couldn't tell Jordan why the voice in his head was laughing. It was too much for Jordan to handle. It was too much for Jin to handle. No one wants you. No one needs you anymore. Jin sniffed back the tears. He had been crying the entire time he talked to Jordan after Jordan asked him what was going on. He cried because he couldn't tell Jordan the truth. He cried because he had to say all these lies to Jordan. Most importantly, he cried because he had to hurt Jordan by ignoring him. Didn't I tell you before? Nice people always lose. Inside the classroom, Jin trembled from top to bottom from his soaked clothes. He thought of Jezebelle, who left him all alone to walk by himself to first person. His two best friends then had to talk to each other all friendly in front of him. Then, he remembered what Kristian and Bo said to him. The football team was suspicious of him too. Everyone

was avoiding him today since not only was he soaked and without Jezebelle, they had been hearing rumors about him. Why, asked Jin inwardly to his voice, Why do you sound so much like Fi? *********************************************** Sitting back in his chair, Kristian smirked as the teacher declared that he would be getting a week's worth of detention for making a sexual innuendo out of her lecture. The girls laughed loudly to grab Kristian's attention. Turning around, Kristian winked at them. I'm so glad Kristian's back, said the girls to themselves. Kristian glanced to his right after he was done with them. Much to his surprise, Rin was busy texting under her desk. Kristian wanted more than anything to know who she was talking to... who was so important that she had to break school rules for them. How many people could she text to? If he recalled correctly, there was him... Vance... and... Some girls are more flirty than ever, said Kristian out loud, licking his lips. Rin paid attention to him now. What with the Internet and cell phones nowadays. You're heartless, said Rin under her breath, shaking from top to bottom. Kristian didn't even care to look at her. Aren't there any girls around here who are loyal to their boyfriends? It's so sad what our generation has become. Rin closed her eyes, almost in tears. Whatever. Those girls are hos anyways. Why? thought Rin on the inside. Why am I still in love with you? Fuck you, Jordan, thought Kristian, taking out his own cell phone. If you want to play that game. With a painful feeling in her chest, Rin stared at cell phone once more with teary eyes. She wasn't even flirting. Jordan was telling her about his conversation with Jin earlier and how strange Jin had been acting. Then, Jordan suggested that they should approached Jin together during sixth period since most of the sport teams and band members would be in the same gym. Rin agreed to his suggestion. That was all they talked about. Why couldn't Kristian understand her, even now? Over to her left, Kristian started a draft to send to Jordan's cell phone. Jordan, you need piss off. Staring at the screen, Kristian frowned and deleted that message. He was going to start again. It wasn't menacing enough to stop him from texting Rin during class. You attention whore. Stop fucking texting in class. That's my job. Kristian stopped and thought about what he was doing. At last, after a few seconds' hesitation, Kristian deleted that message and took a completely different approach. Hey you. I really really love her. Why did you have to steal her away from me? With shaking hands, Kristian couldn't delete that message. He glanced over in Rin's direction. She had her head down. She was probably sad from what he had said. Regrettably, Kristian returned to his text message and continued. How often do you think of her? I think of her every day. Every second that I'm not with someone else, I think of her. I'll never love another girl as much as I love her. Is your love for her that powerful? What is she to you? Does she mean as much to you as she does to me? Can you make her happier than I can? The bell almost caused Kristian to jump since he was so focused on his text message. Kristian quickly deleted the draft before he grabbed his belongings and got up. Once he was up, he noticed that Rin was glaring at him from the door. When their eyes met, Rin turned her back to him and left the room. Kristian frowned and pocketed his cell phone. What was the matter with her? I'm going to see Tilly now, thought Kristian, watching Rin leave with Jordan at the

end of the hallway. I can't stand those two. *********************************************** During fourth period, Tiffany was busy writing notes when someone placed something on her desk. At the sight of the folded note, Tiffany thought she was supposed to pass it on, but much to her surprise, the note was addressed to her. Looking around to make sure that neither the teacher nor the students were watching, Tiffany quickly unfolded the note. Yo Tiffy. Are you feeling better now? Tiffany glanced in Bo's direction. He grinned and waved at her. It was definitely him. No one else knew about her crying yesterday. Taking out a glittery green pen, Tiffany scribbled yes quickly and passed it back to Bo. It didn't take long for her to receive his reply. She took a deep breath and unfolded the paper. I'm glad to hear that, beautiful. You should talk to him. He's back to normal now. Tiffany had trouble thinking of a response so she wrote, What should I say to him? It'll be awkward. This time, Bo took a longer time to write something. Tiffany felt so nervous when she received the note again. With shaking fingers, she checked the note. You're so funny, Tiffy. You're overthinking everything, girl. Be your sexy self. Capping the pen and tapping it against her cheek, Tiffany thought about it. She had been herself all these years and Jin had failed to notice her. Why would she expect anything else this time around? Of course, she couldn't say that to Bo, so instead, she asked him where Jin would likely be during lunch. Tiffany had decided at last to ask Jin what was going on with him. He had been avoiding her all last week and yesterday. Now, she was hearing a lot of strange rumors about him. After receiving Bo's reply and hearing the ending bell, Tiffany packed up her belongings and went over to Bo. Bo beamed at her as he also put away everything. That was fun, said Bo, amused. We should do it more often, Tiffy. This is for you, said Tiffany, handing her red umbrella to him. Bo looked confused. He didn't touch it. You'll catch a cold at this rate. It's also a great endurance exercise, said Bo, chuckling. Use it, ordered Tiffany. What about you? Tiffany sighed. I have an extra. That's so like you, Tiffy, said Bo, accepting the umbrella. Thanks. Once Bo left the classroom with a quick good luck to her, Tiffany went out the other exit. Tiffany stared up at the dark sky. It was going to rain all day today and tomorrow. She had already checked the weather forecast this morning. Yes, Bo was right in that she was usually prepared for these things. However, what he didn't know was that she hadn't thought about other people after she saw the broadcast. She had no idea that other people would come to school without an umbrella. And for that reason, she stepped out of the building and ran quickly toward the center of the school grounds with her backpack over her head. In the end, Tiffany found Jin standing alone in front of the tennis courts. Tiffany had passed by the journalism room when she noticed Jin from far away and ran up to him. Why was he here without an umbrella? More importantly, why was he standing here all alone with his eyes on the wet tennis courts? Tiffany approached him and decided not to touch him. Instead, she called out his name. Jin spun around quickly. Tiffany, said Jin, surprised to see her. What are you doing here? Tiffany dropped her backpack on the ground behind her. To see you.

With a sad laugh, Jin muttered, You're the first to say that. How about you? asked Tiffany, catching her breath. Why are you here? I don't know, said Jin, walking up closer to the fence. I just felt like it. Is that all? asked Tiffany, shivering. Jin glanced back to her and said, I'm also avoiding Jordan. Aren't you two friends? That's why. Tiffany frowned and hugged herself. You should stay indoors, Jin. I want to wait here, said Jin firmly. You'll catch a cold! Speak for yourself, Tiffany, said Jin, taking off his wet jacket and wrapping it around her body. You're the one who's freezing. Jin handed her his umbrella. This is so unlike you, Tiffany. You always bring an umbrella with you. I have my days too, said Tiffany, blushing from under the large jacket. She shook her head to the umbrella. It's okay. I'm fine like this. I don't think that's a good idea, said Jin, opening the umbrella and holding it above her head. You have a weaker immune system than me. You'll catch a cold and a fever by this rate. Jin, said Tiffany, rubbing her hands. I can't believe you remember stuff like that. Of course. We've known each other for a while now. Tiffany lifted her eyes up at the sky. It has been a while, hasn't it? It has. The two of them stood under the umbrella together and stared at the tennis courts. Jin could see Jezebelle playing tennis against Xuan Lan on those courts. Xuan Lan had been improving rapidly. It was a matter of time before she became an excellent tennis player. As for Jezebelle, she was so good that she managed to convince Coach Marshall that she should take some time off to coach the football team. Jezebelle was always like that. She jumped from one thing to another so fast. I'm going to get sick, aren't I? asked Tiffany, almost in a whisper. You know you will, said Jin, exasperated. That's why you should be indoors instead. Tiffany smiled weakly at Jin. But Jin... Yeah? I like it when you take care of me when I'm sick. Taken aback by her words, Jin said modestly, I'm not really that helpful... I can only make that plain soup... It doesn't matter. It's really good. I'm glad, then, said Jin, trying his best to return her smile. Is it horrible of me to want Fi to catch a cold and allow me to take care of her? Jin's smile vanished. Maybe then, she'll come back... What do you mean? asked Tiffany, confused. When did she leave in the first place? And what is the context of this leaving you're talking about, Jin? Jin sighed. It's nothing. Jin... Tiffany? Yes? Jin forced the umbrella into her hands. Thank you. For? asked Tiffany, gripping the umbrella reluctantly.

For coming here and talking to me, said Jin, picking up his backpack on the ground and walking around the fence. I want to be by myself for a while. Wait, Jin, said Tiffany, remembering something. Jin stopped and turned to her. What's up? Bo told me yesterday that no one is themselves in this school anymore thanks to this food chain, said Tiffany, picking up her voice. She could see her breath in the air. Everyone is keeping secrets. Everyone is acting like someone other than themselves. Jin sighed, but didn't comment. That's why... please, Jin... Jin watched as Tiffany lowered her eyes sadly. Please be yourself. As long as you're honest to who you are, everything will eventually get better. Tiffany, said Jin, shocked. I didn't know you were so optimistic. Blushing, Tiffany muttered, Bo said the same thing... Why are you telling me that, though, Tiffany? asked Jin, avoiding her gaze. You're hiding things, said Tiffany without a doubt. You're not answering my questions. You're being secretive all of a sudden. Tiffany squeezed the umbrella handle. Why are you acting like this? Jin laughed miserably and gave in. I'm afraid, Tiffany. Afraid of? asked Tiffany, gasping. Who is the real Jin? asked Jin out loud, throwing his head back and blinking against the rain. Who am I? Who am I becoming? What the hell, Jin breathed in and out rapidly, am I doing? Why is it that everything I do is so meaningless? Jin, said Tiffany, running over to him and grabbing a hold of his shoulders. You don't have to think or do anything more. You are yourself. You have been yourself all this time. Out of everyone I know, you know yourself best. That's not true, said Jin under his breath. Fi is. Jezebelle? I envy her, said Jin painfully. Tiffany could tell how hard it was to say this out loud to her. I have to hide my thoughts. I have to hide my urges. That's why I have this voice constantly laughing at me in my head. Jin rubbed his temples. Fi does whatever she wants. She says whatever she likes. She is perfectly at ease with herself and knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She's so incredible. Jin sobbed quickly. Tiffany released his shoulders. Compared to her, I am nothing. I don't know myself at all. You're wrong, Jin, said Tiffany firmly. Am I? asked Jin weakly. Yes, you are. How am I wrong? Tiffany sighed. You're waiting here for her, aren't you? Jin dropped his head. Was it that obvious? You want an answer from her, which means she's hiding something from you. She might know herself very well, but she has secrets too. What happened to her exactly back at Polytechnic High? What is the deal with her father? I hear he keeps her around his workplace for some reason. Jin picked his head up, surprised at this info. You don't truly know someone unless you know what they have done. Tiffany... said Jin, surprised at her. I have nothing to hide, said Tiffany, blushing and glancing away. You have known me all these years. We lived next to each other. Jin nodded in agreement. I don't have such a hidden agenda like her either. You're right. That's why, Jin, said Tiffany, gazing intently at Jin. You don't have to envy her.

Jin laughed. But I do. Jin paused and thought about it. That's probably why I love her so much. Even though Fi has no redeeming trait besides her confidence, I love her nonetheless. Suddenly, Jin felt at ease. I like how inflexible she is to certain things like taking a bath in that one restroom and nowhere else. And I like how she takes an hour in the restroom every morning. It shows that even Fi cares what people think of her. Tiffany felt down at Jin's words. She didn't want to hear about Jezebelle. When you look at her for who she is, she's just like any one of us with weaknesses and problems. You're going to figure things out with her no matter what? asked Tiffany softly. Jin nodded. I have to. Why? Is it because of your parents? Shaking his head, Jin said, It's because I love her. I don't know what's going on, but, said Tiffany, hesitating. What if it's another boy in her life? What if she likes someone else? If that's the case, I want her to tell me about it even more. If she's happier with someone else, I want to know so I can be happier for her too. Tiffany glanced away. I understand. I was supposed to leave, said Jin, scratching the back of his wet head. What am I doing? Tiffany, I didn't mean to tell you all that. It must be such a bother. You're part of the Asian Gossip Girls. You have better things than to hear me talk about what I think of my girlfriend. It is really my fault for stopping you, said Tiffany quickly. I'm going to look for her, said Jin, smiling fondly at Tiffany. I have a few minutes before the bell rings. I'll find her and talk to her. I'll try again with every opportunity I get until I get an answer. Good, said Tiffany, biting her lip. Luck. Thanks, Tiffany. Later then. Watching Jin go, Tiffany heaved her backpack over her shoulder and headed in the opposite direction. She should find a room to dry herself in before fifth period started. Even though Tiffany let Jin go, she was happy that she was able to talk to him for so long. Moreover, he told her so much about himself. He cared about and noticed her after all. Tiffy, said Bo, waiting for her in front of the gym under the roof. Bo! said Tiffany, surprised. Did you follow me? No, I only stalk Hamada-sama. This is where I'm hanging out for lunch today. I see... Bo chuckled at her uncomfortable expression. Let me guess. You let Jin go without telling him anything about yourself or your feelings. That's exactly right, said Tiffany honestly. But you guys talked for a really long time. Tiffany smiled widely. We did. I'm so glad I talked to him. Bo grinned. I told you, Tiffy. You should simply be yourself to reach to him. Tiffany nodded happily. And this is the first time I've seen such a sincere smile on your face. It's breathtaking, my lady. I hate flirts, said Tiffany, frowning now. Oh really? asked Bo daringly, indicating at her umbrella. What is that you're holding there? Tiffany blushed and muttered quickly about it being hers. You're a horrible liar, Tiffy. I can see Jin's name right at the handle. Tiffany reddened. Bo laughed and continued, And why are you wearing his jacket? Well... said Tiffany, regaining her voice.

Oh my, said Bo, rubbing his chin. I never knew Tiffy was such a crafty girl. You purposely find him with neither an umbrella nor a jacket so he can give you his because of his instincts to help people in need. So sneaky. I like what I'm seeing, Tiffy. Bo! Before Tiffany could do or say anything, she sneezed five times in a row. Bo laughed loudly at her and asked if she had gotten sick thanks to talking to Jin in the rain. Tiffany glared at him before she took pocket tissues from her backpack and wiped her nose. Under the tissues, Tiffany smiled secretly to herself. Even if she was bedridden tomorrow, it was worth it. ************************************************* When Jin entered his fifth period classroom, he was soaked from top to bottom. Everyone gawked at the sight of him like this. Jin avoided their gaze and collapsed into his chair. Everyone around him scooted away from him. A few seconds later, Jordan and Rin arrived together. Both of them noticed the state Jin was in. "What are you doing, Ri-chan?" asked Jordan, grabbing her arm when she tried to approach Jin. "Jin will catch a cold at this rate." "But his reputation-" Rin glared at Jordan. "His health is more important." Unable to argue against Rin's logic, Jordan released her arm and stood in front of Jin's desk next to Rin. Jin blinked up at them through the wet strands of hair in his eyes. Jordan asked Jin if he were okay. Jin nodded weakly. Quickly, Rin pulled Jordan's towel out from inside her backpack and leaned over Jin's desk to wipe his face. Freezing from top to bottom, Jin couldn't say or do anything to Rin. "His hair," said Jordan softly to Rin. Rin nodded. She went around the desk and dried Jin's hair with the towel. While she did this, she could feel every pair of eyes in the room on her back. Slightly embarrassed for doing this in front of everyone, Rin took a deep breath and continued, ignoring them. She could feel Jordan's support next to her. "Rin-chan..." said Jin, deeply moved. "It doesn't matter," said Rin, staring at his hair. "Ignore them." "Thanks." Rin stopped ruffling his hair for a second before she continued, "It doesn't matter to me whether you're the most or least popular person in school. You're my best friend." "I'm so sorry," said Jin under his breath. "I forgive you," said Rin, smiling sweetly. "I always do." Jin gripped Rin's wrist. "That's enough, Rin-chan." "But your hair-" "It's fine," said Jin, taking in a deep breath. "I'm fine." "Jin," said Jordan, placing a bag on Jin's desk. "Ri-chan and I have been studying together in the locker room earlier so-" Jordan pushed the bag closer to Jin. "-I manage to grab my extra clothes just in case I need them later. But you can use them." "I can't," said Jin with wide eyes. "It's fine," said Jordan, glancing in Rin's direction. "Thanks to Ri-chan, I don't need to worry about getting wet for today. Oh!" Jordan put Rin's umbrella he stole earlier on his desk. Rin scowled at the sight of it. She knew it. "You can use this one if you like, Jin. Richan and I are sharing one for the rest of the day anyways." Jin dropped his eyes. "Guys..."

"Come," said Jordan, grabbing a hold of Jin's arm. Jin hurriedly picked up the bag Jordan offered him. "Let's get you into dry clothes before class starts." "I'll explain it to the teacher if you guys come back late," said Rin quickly. Jordan kissed her on the forehead before he said, "Good girl. Let's go, Jin." Blushing, Rin watched them head for the boys' restroom before she sat down next to Kristian. Kristian was busy scribbling something on a piece of notebook paper. Rin expected him to avoid her like always, but she couldn't stop checking nevertheless. While she stared at him, she heard the girls in the room talking about her out loud without restraint. "I can't believe our valedictorian's such a whore." "First, Kristian. Next, Jordan and Jin. Who's next?" "It's always the pretty boys. She's so shallow." "What a flirt." Rin should have expected as much, but she kept her silence nevertheless. She was beginning to get used to this. Soon enough, they would be bored with her. She just had to endure it for now. "Hey," said Kristian in interruption, jumping off his seat. Rin thought he was talking to her so she picked her eyes up, only to see him walk over to the girls behind her. Typical Kristian. He wouldn't talk to her unless he had to. The girls beamed at the sight of Kristian. "What's up Kristian?" Kristian smirked and said, "I heard from first period that we're doing another project in this class. Any of you ladies want to partner up with me?" "Oh, I want to!" "No, I do!" With his hand over his chin, Kristian stared at them, indecisive. Who should he partner up with? Since Rin was watching him, she thought he glanced in her direction once. She must be seeing things. At last, Kristian told them he forgot that he already asked someone else, leaving them disappointed. Kristian walked back, passing both Rin and his seat. He sat on top of Roselle's desk. Rin sighed. He glanced over at Roselle. Of course. She was part of his group. "We're partnering up again, aren't we?" asked Kristian, licking his lips. Roselle rolled her eyes. "You didn't do any work last time!" "Always the frank one, aren't you?" asked Kristian, amused. "Let's partner up." "Not again!" After the bell rang for the beginning of class, Jin and Jordan returned a few seconds late. Rin explained it to the teacher so neither of them were marked tardy. During the lecture, Rin tried to concentrate, but she was still nervous around Kristian. Her heart wouldn't stop beating rapidly next to him. Searching for help, Rin glanced back at Jordan and Jin. Jin was in Jordan's much larger clothes, but he looked cute like always. As for Jordan, he was actually sitting up and taking notes for once. Rin was proud of him. It took him a few seconds to notice Rin staring at him. Jordan smiled at her and gazed back at her. Blushing, Rin returned her attention to her notes. "With a partner, I want each person to take opposite sides on this issue that I'll assigned to each group individually," said Mrs. Meyerson with ten minutes of class left to go. "Sweet," said Kristian to Roselle. "We argue all the time anyways." Roselle groaned. "How am I supposed to beat the President of Speech and Debate?" "I'll go easy on you, Roselle." "Oh, shut up Kristian." Much to Kristian's annoyance, Jordan crouched next to Rin's desk and clasped her

right hand in his. After some hesitation, Rin agreed to partner up with Jordan since Jin told Jordan that it was fine if he wanted to be with Rin instead of him. Kristian ignored them. It didn't matter that Rin refused to partner up with him last time they had a project together. "I'm not good at arguing," said Abe honestly, sitting next to Jin. Jin scratched the back of his head. "Neither am I." "That's good," said Abe, laughing. "I won't look so shitty, then." "Haven't you heard the rumors about me?" asked Jin, sighing. "Everyone is avoiding me like the plague." "Are you kidding, Jin Song?" asked Abe, amused. "I was there, remember?" "Where?" "At the hospital." Jin blinked. "You're right. You were there." "I know what's going on," said Abe, nodding his head. "So no worries, Jin Song." "I'm sorry," said Jin suddenly, ashamed. "What for?" Jin sighed. "I used to think so negatively of you guys." "You mean the Pimp Juice?" asked Abe, confused. "Yeah..." Abe shook his head. "It's probably our fault, I'm sure. Eddie and Tristan can be such assholes sometimes. Parker causes so many problems for the rest of us with his philandering ways. And Zane and Cash are pretty good followers of the other three, like me." "About Eddie," said Jin cautiously. "Is he like that all the time?" "Most of the time." "I see..." "But," said Abe thoughtfully. "He is really sweet around Lydia. It's gag worthy." "Oh," said Jin, surprised. "Are they still dating?" "He's been avoiding her for over a week now," said Abe, shaking his head. "That's probably why he's been in such a foul mood lately. I wonder if it's because they fought over Lydia's situation again?" "Her situation?" Abe frowned. "You probably don't know this, but Lydia's in an arranged marriage. She's getting married at the age of twenty." "At this day and age?" asked Jin, surprised. "She's Indian, Jin Song. They're still like that." Jin sighed. "That must suck for Eddie..." "It's sad," said Abe, looking down. "Eddie knew this from the beginning, but he jumped in anyways." Abe gasped and picked up the paper in front of them. He just noticed it sitting there. "What am I saying? I talk too much! We need to figure out which side of the argument each of us are going to do." Jin stared at the paper, but his thoughts were on Eddie and Lydia. Most of the school already knew about their relationship, but Jin wondered how many people know that Lydia was in an arranged marriage. If Eddie knew this from the start, why did he choose to date her? For fun? For some reason, Jin couldn't believe that. Last year, Eddie almost beat Jordan up in front of the whole school for dumping his sister. Eddie seemed like someone who wouldn't date a girl to pass the time. He was serious about Lydia. "Eddie's like me," thought Jin to himself. Abe was going on about something else now. "I know Fi is going to leave and I'll probably never see or talk to her again after this year. But," Jin felt a tug on his heart. "I want to spend every minute with her, even knowing

it will end someday, because I love her." At his final resolution, Jin heard the bell and got up. He was going to talk to her. He must talk to her. He wasn't going to let her go like this. He had been sulking long enough. It was time to take action and confront Jezebelle. Since all the sports team and others had to gather inside the gym on rainy days, Jezebelle had to be there for sure. She couldn't avoid him, could she? With that in mind, Jin walked out of the room confidently. "Did you see the look on Jin's face?" asked Jordan to Rin after Jin had already left. "No, I was busy reading over our assignment," said Rin, blinking. "I know that face," said Jordan, relieved. "He's back to normal." "Does that mean we don't have to ask him what's going on?" asked Rin, frowning. Jordan shrugged. "What do you think we should do?" "You're asking me?" "Why not?" Rin blinked. "I'm not used to it." Jordan laughed. "Anyways, I think we should ask to make sure." "We'll go with that, then," said Jordan, carrying both of their backpacks. "Let's hurry to the gym." "You need to be more decisive with these things, Jordan," said Rin, chiding. "I'm always making all the decisions." "I can't help it," said Jordan, leaving the room with Rin. "They're part of our personalities..." Leaving the room as well, Kristian watched them from the back for a few seconds before he was surrounded by his admirers. Kristian chatted to them, but in the back of his head, he thought about what was going on behind the scenes. It was no use for those three to try to get anything out of Jezebelle. Jezebelle was too smart for that and with his help, she was untouchable. Kristian smirked and thought, "Jin, I really shouldn't blame you for what happened between Rin-chan and Jordan, but..." Inside the gym, the basketball team sat together in the highest upper left corner of the bleachers. They sat next to the cheerleaders and above the soccer girls. The volleyball girls were noisily talking to the soccer girls above them. The tennis team hung out right in the middle, to the left of the soccer girls and right of the golf team. The entire Cross Country team were below them and the entire Polo and swimming team were above them. The baseball team took over the upper left corner left with the golf team below them. The tiny Badminton team took the lowest corner under the golf team. From the bleachers across from the sports bleachers, various groups located there, including Dance Team, Marching Band, Floral Class, and others. On her side of the bleachers, Rin frowned at the arrangement of the sports team. It was like the food chain at work. The popular basketball, baseball, cheerleading, and swimming teams were on the top rows while volleyball, Badminton, and Cross Country were on the bottom. It didn't make sense to Rin since their school had an excellent Badminton and Cross Country teams in comparison to their failing basketball team and average baseball team. The only ones who should deserve to even gloat were their undefeated swim teams. However, Rin shook her head. She shouldn't care about these things anymore. "Where's the football team?" asked Jordan to Patrick, sitting next to him. "They usually sit where the baseball team is," said Patrick, elevating his eyes up. "You don't want to sit with the basketball team, Jordan?" "No," said Jordan immediately. "I'm sneaking over to Band anyways."

"To be with Rin Hamada?" asked Patrick, smirking. Jordan smiled. "Yeah." "Man, Jordan," said Patrick, amused. "Give up some girls to the rest of us, Jesus Christ." "He can't," said Rick, laughing next to Patrick. "He's too much of a pretty boy." "You two are making it sound like I'm dating five girls at once right now or something," said Jordan, annoyed. "What's wrong with that?" asked Patrick innocently. "Is Rin Hamada the jealous type?" "She's actually the complete opposite," said Jordan, defensive. "Yo," said Rick in interruption. Both Jordan and Patrick turned to Rick curiously. "Have you seen Jin Song? I need a ask for a favor from him." "You guys still support Jin?" asked Jordan, surprised. "Come on, Jordan!" said Patrick, wrapping his arms around Jordan's shoulders. "We're the tennis team! We're buds forever!" Patrick noticed Kirk nearby and cried loudly, "Right Kirk?" "Sorry, but I'm not gay," said Kirk plainly, returning his attention to a soccer girl he was talking to. "I take it back," said Patrick, patting Jordan on the shoulder. "All of us except for Kirk." "Where is Jin Song?" asked Rick in repetition. "Haven't seen him," said Patrick, shrugging. Jordan looked around quickly. "Where can he be?" At the usual football field, the members of the football were doing pushups in the mud. They were enduring the rain as they went up and down in their uniforms and helmets. Bo was humming a song to break the mood, which caused Lil to burst into laughter. While they did this, Jezebelle was sitting nearby in a folding chair with her legs crossed. Xuan Lan was next to her, holding up an umbrella for both of them. Jezebelle watched them carefully. They were so hardworking. Smirking, Jezebelle thought this was too easy. She just had to make this a competition and they were already ready to fight against one another. In the rain nevertheless. "What did you promise them?" asked Coach, coming up to Jezebelle. "I'll do something for the person who improves the most before Friday," said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes. "It's like granting a wish, really." "Good," said Coach, grinning. "We have a chance to win this Friday then." "There's no doubt about it," said Jezebelle, relaxing in her chair. "As long as they listen to me." "I'll leave them in your care then." Widening her smirk, Jezebelle said, "Please do." After the football players walked off in a line to the equipment room, Jezebelle noticed Jin standing under an umbrella a fair distant from her. There was a strong, determined look on his face. Jezebelle frowned at first, but then, she laughed it off and asked Xuan Lan to take out the small pink umbrella. The other girl took it out of its case from inside her backpack and held it out for Jezebelle. Instead of accepting it, Jezebelle grabbed the umbrella Xuan Lan was already using. Xuan Lan had to quickly open the pink one for herself. You found me, said Jezebelle, standing a few feet away from Jin. Fi, we need to talk, said Jin desperately. Jezebelle shook her head. There's nothing to talk about.

Yes, there is. I already said everything yesterday. Jin took a step forward and held his free arm out. Listen here, Fi, I have no idea if we're still together or not. That's how confused I am. Does it make a difference? asked Jezebelle cruelly. Yes, it does. You treat everyone the same, said Jezebelle, lifting a brow. So what if I'm your girlfriend? Do you treat me any more special than any other girl you helped out in the past? Jin gawked at her questions. He didn't expect this. Do you treat me any better than Rinny or Jordan Greene? Or even Giant or Tiffany? Of course, said Jin, astonished. I love you. If it were anyone in my position, you would treat them like this. Jin frowned. You don't know that for sure. I do know that. I know you inside and out now. Is this why you're mad at me? asked Jin softly with a sad look on his face. Frowning at him, Jezebelle whipped her head back at Xuan Lan. Spring, leave. Why? asked Xuan Lan, disappointed. Jezebelle glared at Xuan Lan. Leave now! Scared, Xuan Lan scurried out of the area. There was no one left around them. The football players were occupied in the equipment room. Xuan Lan ran off toward there as well. All the teachers were inside their classrooms. All of the coaches were inside the gym with the rest of the sports team. Sit, said Jezebelle at last, indicating at where she was sitting down before. Jin sat down obediently with his right hand still on the handle of Rin's umbrella. Observing him from top to bottom, Jezebelle could tell he was wearing Jordan's clothes, not his own. He must have stood around in the rain, looking for her during all the breaks so far. Jezebelle went up closer to Jin with narrowed eyes. How do I know for sure that you love me? asked Jezebelle in a low voice. Jin blinked. Er... When you love someone, said Jezebelle, placing her left hand on her hip. Isn't it true that that person is number one to you? I think? I'm not sure, said Jezebelle, glancing away. She laughed pathetically at herself. I've never been in love. Jin reddened. I see... But I can tell you're not really in love with me, said Jezebelle at last. I do love you, said Jin insistently. I admit that I didn't love you in the beginning, but over time, I really do come to love you, Fi. Jezebelle had her back to him now. No, you don't Jin. You're just loyal as fuck. I do! You're so nave, said Jezebelle distastefully. How can someone mistake loyalty for love? You're such a fool, Jin. I know what I'm talking about, said Jin firmly, regaining his confidence. I think of you before everyone else. I care about you and I want you to be with me all the time. I will do anything, as long as it's not immoral, for you. Jezebelle faced him again. Cut that bull shit, Jin. What? I don't care for your platonic love crap, said Jezebelle, leaning toward him. She

placed her hands on top of his knees. I'm not Rinny, okay? I don't care for an innocent, romantic relationship. Jin nodded, dumbstruck by how close she was to him. And we're not like Jordan and Rinny either. They have this romantic friendship thing going and I won't stand for that either. Jezebelle sighed and allowed her curls to fall on top of her shoulders. I'm not a little girl anymore, Jin. I'm fifteen now. You're fifteen? cried Jin, surprised. Since when? It's October. My birthday was back in September. Jin blinked and then, groaned. I totally missed the start of October thanks to my absence. No duh, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes. Fi, what do you want me to do, then? asked Jin helplessly, returning to the original topic. This is how I've been brought up. But it's boring, stated Jezebelle. Boring... Jezebelle pouted and looked away. Your birthday present was the most exciting thing you had given me. Since then, nothing. Your birthday present... said Jin, trying to remember. At the memory, Jin touched his lips and blushed despite how cold he was in the rain. Fi, you don't mean you want- Rinny is ahead of me. Fi, this is not a competition! Jezebelle flung her hair back in a deliberate manner. I'm a competitive person by nature, Jin. And besides, she doesn't deserve any of what she has. Jin tilted his head. Jezebelle glared at the rain instead of at Jin. She didn't do a thing to deserve any of it. Things just... Jezebelle elevated her eyes up to the sky. Fall into her hands. Jin frowned. You shouldn't say things like that. I only like to use people, Jin, said Jezebelle softly, calming down. I don't like it when I have to rely on them. Jezebelle frowned. At first, I used you and I felt happy. I like it whenever I have complete power over another human being. But then, you let me use you. Last week came around and I noticed that I was so used to using you that I became dependent on you. Allowing a short laugh, Jezebelle stood up straight. The irony. But Fi, said Jin, grabbing a hold of her right wrist with his left hand. You fail to realize that I'm as dependent on you as you are on me. Jezebelle stared hard at Jin, searching for any sign of lying from him. Up until now, I haven't really accepted the fact that being the most popular boy in school is very lonely. I don't think I can remain there, Jin gave Jezebelle a puppy look similar to Jordan's. By myself. Are you saying all this to win me over? asked Jezebelle coldly. Jin smiled up at her. I just want to say my most honest feelings. Your hidden desires, said Jezebelle in a whisper. It doesn't include me. What? Your other self, said Jezebelle in clarification. He's only mean to me, nothing more. It makes me rethink what you really think of me. Oh, that, said Jin, blinking. I can explain that. Jezebelle felt Jin tightening his grip on her. It's because I already express how I feel for you normally. I don't need to hide any hidden feeling or deep desire for you, like I do with my angry or unpleasant thoughts. Jin beamed. Come on, Fi, even I can get annoyed at you sometimes, but I don't want to show you and get you angry at me. But you don't have any erotic feelings... That's because I can't do anything because of my parents, said Jin quickly, noticing

how hard Jezebelle was taking this. I can't hide erotic thoughts when they only come now and again at the right time. When is now and again? asked Jezebelle, lowering herself to face Jin again. I don't know? asked Jin, uncertain. Jezebelle pouted. It doesn't matter because my parents won't allow- Why do you think I left? asked Jezebelle, straightening her back. She closed her umbrella and put it on the ground. Wet, Jezebelle wrapped her arms in front of her chest. Why do you think I went back to my old house for? Lost at first, Jin kept gaping at Jezebelle, but she refused to clarify. The voice in his head that sounded like Jezebelle all day told him the answer. This time though, it wasn't Jezebelle's voice that he heard. It was his own. It was his other self. This was the now and again he spoke of just now. Understanding, Jin followed her suit and closed Rin's umbrella. Jin, what are you- Jezebelle couldn't finish her sentence at the sight of Jin kissing her right hand. Despite the rain, Jezebelle felt warm on the inside. With a rare, genuine smile on her face, Jezebelle tossed her umbrella aside. Jin did as well. Soon enough, they shared a passionate kiss with Jezebelle on top of Jin's lap. Even though it was Jezebelle who initiated the kiss, it was Jin who pushed Jezebelle's waist closer to him. Jezebelle broke out of the kiss and blinked at Jin through the rain, surprised at how bold he was all of a sudden. It was so out of his character. I'm glad you're wearing a skirt and leggings today, said Jin with a cute smile. Is it you or... Jin shook his head. He's me. He's always been me. The only reason why he existed in the first place is because I refused to accept him. I refuse to accept that part of myself. I keep all those emotions bottled up on the inside. I keep thinking that as long as I'm moral and good, then everything will work out. Jin laughed heartily. But I learned a valuable lesson from you, Fi. Jezebelle lifted a brow. I might try to help everyone, but there's always a person who I keep forgetting to help... who I keep dismissing. Yourself? asked Jezebelle, frowning. Yeah. You finally get it. Jin nodded. Yeah, and I love how thanks to you living with me, my other self has appeared more often in this past month than the past four years combined. Jin pulled Jezebelle down into another kiss. Thanks, Fi. Thanks for helping me realize this. I can finally accept him, myself, and you. Then, said Jezebelle through their kiss. While we do this, call me by my real name, Jin. Jin complied and muttered, Jezebelle. The rain kept pouring for the rest of the day. It washed away negative emotions, fake selves, lies, and blood. ***************************************************** Under the roof of the girls' locker room, Kristian watched the couple afar next to Xuan Lan. Even though he was a TA, he made a quick excuse about going to the restroom and remained out here to see if Jin found Jezebelle. Xuan Lan bumped into him along the way and showed him where they were since they were on the same side. Kristian leaned against the wall and breathed out. He watched his breathe in the air for a few seconds before he licked his lips and closed his eyes. That girl, said Kristian, gaining Xuan Lan's attention. She's really good at what she

does. I have to admit that. Huh? asked Xuan Lan, puzzled. If I have to face her, I would lose, said Kristian, opening his eyes and laughing out loud to himself. You know why? Why? I am bound by my emotions, said Kristian, shaking his head. He thought of Rin again. She was probably with Jordan right now. Tilly, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. She won't do anything impulsive. She'll never be caught up in the moment, unlike the rest of us. Everything she does is for a reason. Is that so... I think I know what's up, said Kristian, heaving himself off the wall. I better head back now. Kristian stopped in his tracks at the weight he felt against him. What are you doing, Spring? Xuan Lan tightened her hold around Kristian's waist. The Beast will see us and he'll- I don't care, said Xuan Lan, nearly shouting. Kristian glanced back at her. She was sniffing back tears. I don't love him. I love you. Don't be silly. This is a school girl crush at best. I know what I feel, said Xuan Lan, angry. You think I'm just a child, but I know a lot. I'm probably smarter than both you and Jesse. Kristian laughed at her words. And I know why I'm in this group. I know why I enslave myself to Jesse. And why is that? asked Kristian, willing to listen now. I want to be with you, said Xuan Lan, looking down. After a period of silence, Kristian said, Do you know what mine is? No... Revenge, said Kristian without a doubt. I'm not here for games. I'm not here for this childish love crap either. Tilly promised me a suitable method to get my revenge and therefore, I will do whatever it takes so she can achieve her goal. But you and Jules- It's for convenience sake, said Kristian quickly. Juliet's a bargaining chip. Xuan Lan's eyes widened. Kristian noticed and freed her arms from him. I must admit. You're smart, Spring. You really are. But you have a long way to go to be at Tilly's level. And one of which is to let go of this crush. It will only hurt you because, Kristian pulled up an umbrella and walked off. I can't love anyone right now. On his way toward the front gates, Kristian noticed Tiffany walking around school grounds as if in search of someone. He noticed the umbrella she was using. It wasn't the same one she used during nutrition. Furthermore, she was wearing Jin's jacket for whatever reason. Frowning, Kristian went up to Tiffany. Tiffy Taffy, said Kristian, almost causing Tiffany to jump. Have you seen Jin? asked Tiffany, shivering. Why? asked Kristian, lifting a brow. It's pouring and I want to return his umbrella, said Tiffany, darting her eyes back and forth. Kristian noticed how jumpy she was. He's busy, said Kristian vaguely. Doing what? Where is he? Kristian went up closer to Tiffany, forcing her to take a step back. That doesn't matter right now. There's something wrong with you. Sneezing, Tiffany gasped, There's nothing wrong with me! Without warning, Kristian grabbed a hold of Tiffany's wrist to force her from running

off. He used his other hand to check her forehead. It was burning hot. Kristian's eyes widened. How long had she had this fever? Since this morning? Or later in the day? I'm taking you home, said Kristian, tugging her behind him. I'm not going anywhere with you! cried Tiffany, trying to free herself. I need to return this umbrella to Jin! I need to return this jacket to him too! He must be freezing right now without them. Are you retarded? asked Kristian, losing his temper completely. Tiffany was taken aback by his lack of control. Jin doesn't like you. He likes Tilly. He's fucking sitting out there in the rain by his own choice and freezing with her right now. Tiffany felt dizzy. I still should return- You're his neighbor! You can return them to him anytime! You're hurting me, said Tiffany, miserably. Kristian realized how hard he held her wrist so he released it quickly. You're such an ass, Kristian. I'll do whatever I want. You should leave me alone. You're so fucking blind, said Kristian, glaring at her. No matter how hard you try, Jin will never return your feelings. Tiffany dropped her eyes, unable to speak. Even if Tilly were to fall over dead right now, he won't return your feelings. Why do you and all those other girls put yourself in this position? You're so stupid. What about you? asked Tiffany, losing her temper as well. You were so hung up on your ex-girlfriend that you couldn't accept Julie or any of those other girls you dated. Aren't we doing the same thing? Kristian grabbed her wrist again and dragged her behind him again. At least I'm not chasing someone who already has a girlfriend. Let go! Shut up, said Kristian over his shoulder. Tiffany was struggling to break free from him. You're going home and you're going to sleep until you feel better. Why are you doing this? asked Tiffany after him. Isn't it obvious? You're my friend! Well, I'm Jin's friend, said Tiffany, defensive. I shouldn't let him- Listen, Tiffy Taffy, said Kristian, stopping abruptly and turning back to Tiffany with a serious expression on his face. Jin and Tilly did it. He's not going back. Tiffany dropped Jin's umbrella out of shock. Kristian helped her pick it up and handed it back, but she was so unstable that she held it loosely. He has gone to the point of no return. You can't be there for him anymore. It's going to be up to him whether he can get through all this alive. I, said Tiffany, falling over. Her legs wouldn't hold up anymore. Kristian caught her in time with his free arm. Jin's umbrella was on the ground again. I don't feel so good... Kristian held Tiffany against his shoulder. It's okay. I'll protect you, so... Kristian grabbed Jin's umbrella and closed it. Then, he proceeded to walking toward the front gate with a sick Tiffany against him. Forget about Jin, Tiffy Taffy. He's a lost cause. He's never coming back. Right when Kristian arrived at the gate, he tried to remember where his car was. Tiffany was half-conscious. She had sneezed twenty times on their way here. Kristian remembered that his car was parked across the street from school. It was then that Kristian noticed Rin and Jordan standing under an umbrella nearby. They must have decided to go home early together since they probably couldn't find Jin anywhere. They would never figure out that Jin was at the football field. Avoiding them, Kristian changed his mind and decided to take the long way to his car. He went the opposite direction, but it was too late. Tiffany? asked Rin loudly, gasping. She ran over. Tiffany, are you okay?

Jordan was the one who noticed Kristian instead. Kristian... At the sight of them in front of him, Kristian laughed and thought about how awkward it must look to see him lending Tiffany his shoulder like this. Already, Kristian noticed the expression on Rin's face when she realized it was him who was helping her. Today was one messed up day. Isn't this, said Kristian, feigning a wide smile. Craptastic?
