0 INTRODUCTION We've already seen sidewalks used to capture the energy of pedestrians' footsteps, so it doesn't seem all that far-fetched to see them emit power as well. Sure enough, iPavement is a sidewalk pavement stone that serve as a WiFi hot spot with bluetooth connectivity. Made of calcium carbonate, each iPavement stone weighs 55 pounds and measures 15 inches square. Available in either a classic smooth or a corrugated finish, the stones are the brainchild of Spanish Via Inteligente, which will start to manufactured them this summer. They offer 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1, and a coverage area of between 1150 and 6240 square feet, depending on their surroundings. Included with the stones, moreover, is a built-in Linuxcompatible operating system, along with apps, offering access to maps, coupons, virtual libraries, and a wide array of local information. Smart sidewalks soon the streets of the world will turn into an integrated information platforms!, the experiment has begin from Spain, where preparing VIA Antljugint Inc. for making smart docks backed by a number of characteristics of informatics and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the sidewalks will be launched by the name iPavement. The company will work to integrate the custom asphalt paving sidewalks and streets running system called ViaCities OS contains sensors and different applications Taattih the of Baloloj population of the system and the use of services via their mobile phones or tablet computers. It is for this merger the FIA Antljugint will "Via Intelligent" install the devices inside the limestone system which has been designed specifically for the feet of passers-by sensing of it. The company pointed out that the smart sidewalks will include a number of applications of interest to any of the walks on the sidewalks, especially with regard to identifying the place and newer services.

Apply VIA Koponz "VIA-Coupons" It propaganda system that aims to promote products stores and shops in the surrounding places via messages to phones or devices that connect to the intelligent system of piers. The company will strengthen the system of intelligent pavement special statistics system called "Analytical iPavement" which will determine the exact number of passers-by, and traffic access to the applications provided by the system. The Spanish capital Madrid is the world's first cities receipt of this system before it is circulated in the rest of the cities of Spain, as a prelude to spread around the world with the presence of news to the UAE city of Dubai agreement with the Spanish company to implement a similar project on its territory.

3.0 IPAVEMENT: BUILDING SMART CITIES STEP BY STEP Information and communications technology (ICT) will be at the heart of intelligent cities of the future. We are starting to see WiFi move outdoors take, for example, New Yorks Bryant park which installed wireless internet access last summer and closer to home, four London Underground stations installed free WiFi ahead of the Olympics. We put an intelligent one roughly every 20 meters. You can cover 300 500 square meters with each piece of pavement. In Spain, however, despite being a country many fear will follow Greeces financial woes, they are ahead of the field when it comes to progressive, smart cities. The iPavement, developed by Spanish company, Via Inteligente, is an intelligent pavement which provides wireless hotspots for those walking the street. The idea is to help tourists and locals by providing important and cultural information which they can connect to for free through their Smartphone. 3.1 INTERACTING WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT So far two pilot schemes have been successful and the company now plans to sell the product, not only to other parts of Spain, but across the world. On 31st December of last year they installed the Ipavement in Puerta Del Sol, one of the busiest squares in Madrid. At midnight a message was sent to the mobile phones of those standing in the square wishing them a happy new year.

The iPavement does not give general access to the internet but, having made their own operating system, Viacity OS, applications have been created which are specifically tailored to help those out and about on the streets. 3.2 MERGING OUR DIGITAL AND OFF-LINE WORLDS iPavements Javier Urrecha told Humans Invent, The idea behind it is to try and change the sidewalk or street into a digital world in order to provide a new platform of connectivity or communication to citizens. There are various applications that the person on the street can access, including city and metro maps, books on the area and even alerts if the streets become hazardous or traffic becomes congested. The idea behind it is to try and change the sidewalk or street into a digital world in order to provide a new platform of connectivity Further apps are currently being developed, including one that will allow parents to monitor their children when they go out. see if they are moving around or not. Urrecha says, It will help in enhancing childrens safety. You will be able follow and keep track of them and

3.3 SMART STONE TECH The pavements are made from Calcium Carbonate marble, a natural resource which Spain has over 50 million tones of. The material is strong and ideal for outside use. Urrech says, Some of the pavements are intelligent ones and some are standard paving stones. We put an intelligent one roughly every 20 meters. You can cover 300 500 square metres with each piece of pavement. We put two or three parallel lines of the paving stones in a square. They then connect up, with one recognising the other which means all that area is covered.

As well as Europe and the US there has been interest from the Emirates. Urrech says, A lot of construction is going on in the Emirates so where pavements havent been put down they wouldnt need to replace existing ones. iPavement tech is another step in breaking down the boundaries between our offline and online worlds, so dont be alarmed if the floor starts communicating with you in the near future
