3. REQUIREMENTS

Maintainability check and 1. The total scheduledmaintenanceexcludin&driver/crew. serviceshall not exceed 1.80 manhoursand the total unscheduled maintenanceshall not exceed 3.25 manhoursduring 5000 miles of operation. 2. 3.1.1.1 Vehicleoperation. To assure that workmanshipand materialsrequlrementaare met dur~ the 3,200 miles of vehicleoperationthe vehiclecombat loadedor with sinnd.atiload of equal weight shall operateas follows: (a) 20 percent on paved roads, ei*r concreteor asphalt or any combinationof the two. (b) 20 percent on gravel ati dirt roads with at least 10 percentof this distanceunder mud coalitions. (c) 30 percent on level cross-country terrain. (d) 30 percent on hilly cross-country terrain.

U.aless otherwisespecifiedon detail drawings, rubber componentswhich are subjectto tensionor flexureshall be ozone re. slstantto the degree requiredby the Cl test requirements of MIL-STD-417. 3.2.2 Qualifiedproducts. With respect to all assemblages and components parts requiringproductqualification in accordancewith the pertinentspecif ications or drawings listedon the EPL cited. in 3.3, and necessaryin the construction of this vehicle,the contractorshallbe responsiblefor using only those productswhich are listed (by part or drawing number as QPL items) on the QPL or which have been approvedfor inclusionon such lists. Contractorsinspection records shall specifically list such component(s),wme of supplier(s)(as listed on the (JPL or in the approvalletter),and numberad date of the QPL from which the selectionwas made or date of approvalletterwhen productsare ap~oved but not as yet listedon the wL. 3.3 Overhaul. Vehiclesshall be overhauledin accordance with contract, technicald~kage end this specification.When new parts are required, they shall conform to specifications, standardsaml drawingslistd fn EPL 8736406. All parts requiringtdentif icationshall be identifiedin accordance with hfnesTL1-130 . 3.3.1 Sealingand seals. After operationin water, the water content of the lubricantsin the sumenslon sYstem shall be not more than 2 m?rcent (by volume). Also, seals sl&ll restrictleakageof internallubric&s from bearings to an extent no greaterthan specifiedin 6.4(b). Static fit Joints shall be adequateto preventexcessive1eakage of water into the vehicle. 3.3.1.1 Eatch seals. With hatchesclosed, seals shall restrictthe entrance of externalwater into the occupiedportionof the vehicleto an extent no greater than specifiedIn 6.4(d). 3.3.2 Smcial kits. When specified(see 6.2) vehicleswith the following S~Ci81 kits, shall have the kits removed,overhauledand reinstalled. 3.3.2.1 Winterization kit. provisionsshallbe made for installation of the winterization kit. When the kit is Installedand operating,standby heat shall be providedby the kit to maintaintemperatures of engine coolant and battery electrol~. Engine start-upshallbe assuredafter extendedshuti down periods in ambienttemperatures betweenminus 250F and minus 65F. 3.3.2.2 Collectiveprotectorkit. All vehiclesshallbe equippedwith the componentsrequiredfor installation of the collectiveprotectorkit. When the kit is installedand operating,with a minimus voltage input b the filter assenblyof 27 volts DC, a mi.nlmum of 3.5 cubicfeetof air perminuteshall be supplledto each of the four installedpersomel masks. 4.

Prior to the st.artofthe break-in run, the engine shall be operatedat idle speed,between650 and 700 rpm, until lubricatingoil is at safe operatingpressureand temperature, as indicated by controlpanel lightsor gs&es. If at any time duri~ the break-inrun the enginehas been stoppedfor at least 30 minutes,the engine shall again be operated as shove,before continuingbreak-inrun. Nonnd oil pressureand temperature shalJbe maintainedduring operationon level groumi,60 percentgrades and hO percent side slopes. 3.4.3 Operationand distance. 3.4.4 Reverse operation. The vehicleshallbe operablein ambienttemperatures 3.5.1 Ehvlronmental. varyingbelxeen plus 12&X and minus 50%, except that below minus 250F special klt (see 3.3.2.1)shallbe used to assure startingand restartingof engine. The completevehiclewhen in storageshallwithstandclimaticextremesof plus 155% and minus 65F,withoutdeterioration that may cause failureof any component of the vehicle,and applicableportionsof MIL STD-21O.

3.5.2 Power train. The power train, inclwilngits associatedcontrols, shallbe operable hroughoutall gear and speed ranges and under all steering and braking conditions, withoutbindingof Hnkages and-withoutloss of lubri= cants to an extent-greater than specif led in 6.4(b)

3.5.3 Bilgepumps. The bilge pumps shall be capableof removing water from the vehtcleaa follam:
(a) Front pump - 35 gallOns xr minute againsta discharge head of 6.0 feet. (b) Rear pumps - 45 gallonsper minute per pump againsta dischargehead of 6.o feet. 3.5.4 Speeds,acceleration and braking ability. 3.5.4.1 .Sustd.ned speed. The vehlc le shall be o~rable at a sustained speed of 30 mph and shallmaintaina speed of 2.5 to 3.5 mph in lowestgear without towed load. With the vehicletravelingbetween 25 mph and maximum speed, the drift fran a straightline shallbe not more than 3 feet in 100 feet. 3.5.4.2 ?&xlmum speed. The vehicleshall be opershleat a speedof not less than 40 mph at an engine speed that does not exceed the maximum full load governedengine operating speedof 2800r~.

3.5.4.3 ?lt.nimwa speed. The vehicleshallbe operableat a speed of not more than 2.5 mph for a period of not less than 30 minutes.
3*5.4.4 speedswith towed bad. The vehtcle shallbe capableof towing a track-lsying$ free-rolling vehicleof equal weight at a speed of not less than 18 mph and shall operateat a sustainedspeed of 15 mph. The vehicle shall also be capableof attaininga minimum speed of 2.5 mph wIth towed load on level and hilly cross-country terrain. 3.5.4.5 Acceleration. The vehicle shall accelerateIYom a stading start to 20 mph In not more thsn 9.0 seconds. B.5.4.6 t%,qpi~. MIL-A-62247(AT) 3.5.4.7 Holding. When the vehicle is standingon a 60 percent longitudinal gradewith the parkingbrake applledand locked,the transmission in neutral, and the engine stopped;it shall remain statdonaryw hen headed up and down ~ade.

3.5.5 Turning.When controlledby geared steer and when traveling at a speed less than 10 mph, the vehicle shall make continuous360 degree right and left turns,with the rear point of the outer edge of the vehicle remaining within an 80-footdiametercircle. Under pivot stier control,the vehicle shall be capable of being pivoted 360 degreeswithin a 30-footdiametercircle.
3.5.6 Slope and grsde performance. The vehicle shall ascend ati descend grades up to 60 percent and operateon side slopesup to 40 percent. The vehicle skill slso maintaina sustainedspeed of 15 mph when ascendinga 10 percent grade on a hard surfacedroad.

3.5.6.1 Engine starting on grades and side slopes. With the vehicle stand. grade for not less than 2 minutes,ati with ing on a 60 percent longitudinal the engine idHng between650 ad 700 rpn, the engine shallbe stoppedfor not less than 2 minutes. The engine shall restart in not more than 1 minute when headed up grade and when headed down grade. A similar engine Sfartlngoperation shallbe conductedon a 40 percent side slopewith each side of vehicle up slope.

4.2.3 Initialoverhauledvehicletests. After completionof the first overhauledvehicle inspection, another vehiclefrctn the first months overhaul or one of the first ten shall be sUbjectedto examination(see 4.4.1) ad tests and tests, the selected as specifiedin 4.5 (a) and (b). Failureof the vehicleas the result of any deficiency of a wor kmanshlp or materialsnatureduring or as a result of the 3,200 mile test maybe cause for the Governmentto refuse to continueacceptanceof overhauledvehiclesuntil evidencehas been providedby the contractorthat correctiveaction has been taken to eliminatethe deficiency.
