Weneedanotherwordtodescribetheseorganizationsthatarelargeenoughtomanipulatemarkets.Awordhasbeensuggestedbyhistorian FernandBraudelanditisaverysimpleone:?antimarket."Why?Becausetheymanipulatemarkets.Andsotoday,intheUnitedStates,there isaverystrongpoliticalmovement,mostlybytherightwing,andNewtGingrichisperhapsthemostwellknownpoliticianinthisregards,who aretrying,astheysay,shrinkthesizeofthegovernment,letmarketforceshavemoreroomtooperate.But,ofcourse,translatedintotheterms we?vejustintroduced,whattheyreallywanttodoisletantimarketforcesrunwild.Theydon?treallywantsmallproducersandsmall manufacturersandbakersandprintersandmomandpopshopstohavemoreroomtomanoeuverandmakemoney.Theywantnationaland internationalcorporationstohavemoreroomtomanoeuver.Theywanttoshrinkgovernmentsothattherearelessregulationstokeep internationalandnationalcorporationsfromdoingwhattheywant.Butifyougoandstudyoneofthesecorporations,ratherthanlookinglikea market,theyarelikeminiSovietUnions.Imean,everythingisplannedinthesecorporations.Themanagerialhierarchiesareexactlylikethe hierarchiesintheSovietUnion:theyplannedeverything,pricesplayaverysmallroleandmostoftheorganizationisdoneviacommand.
