A Lesson Plan in English using LEA

I. Objectives At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to: 1. identify verbs used in the sentences, 2. narrate past actions of their experiences; and 3. be sensitive of others ideas and experiences.

III. Procedure A. Preliminary Activity Do you believe with the adage that the past should already be forgotten? Is everything in the history worth remembering? People live with experiences. Every portion of it leaves a mark in each of us no matter how small it seems. With that, I want you to choose among the options I will provide. (Students now share thoughts and ideas while the teacher writes them on the word verbatim.) B. Lesson Proper Teachers Activity From the sentences you have constructed and the story composed, let us take a look on the verbs we have used. Students Activity

Okay. Then with these verbs, identify its tenses. By the way, let us enumerate the tenses of verbs. If you will observe, most of the verbs on the board denote past actions. This morning, I will discuss the differences in expressing some things that occurred in the past.

Tenses are past, present, future, etc.

The bell had rung when the students How would you communicate an action or condition completed ahead of another past action? To answer this, let us study these examples. Who can read the first one? In the sentence, we have two actions: The ringing of the bell, and the entering of students. The two actions, marked by verbs had rung and entered, are both past actions. Yet one of these two actions was completed ahead of another. Here, the one which happened first is the ringing of the bell. Please read the next sentence. In this sentence, what are the actions? You are right. Both of them happened in the past yet one of them is completed ahead of the other. Who can read the last sentence? The teacher had prepared her board work before the students arrived. The students had sat when the principal came. The sitting of the students and coming of the principal. entered in the room.

Thank you. In this sentence, notice that unlike the first two sentences, the word

used is before. When and before are time expressions we are using with the past perfect tenses of verbs. Going back in the sentence, a gain we have two actions. In the action of the teacher, we have the word had prior to the verb,

prepared.
Words such as had is used with the past participle of the verb to denote the earlier of two actions. So here, the presentation of the teacher was completed before the arrival of students. Here are some points on past perfect tense: The past perfect tense has two forms: a. The ordinary form: had + past particple of the verb b. The continuous form: had been + verb ing e.g. We had been discussing this great achievement before he gave his suggestion.

IV. Evaluation On the board is a cartoon based on a typical, Filipino community. From here, construct sentences in the past perfect tense.
