D ATA S H E E T KEY FEATURES High performance computing blade for the Centellis 3000 series of Application-Enabling Platforms Dual

PowerPC 970FX processors with up to 8.0GB SDRAM PICMG 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet base interface PICMG 3.1, Option 2 Gigabit Ethernet fabric interface Two SCSI interfaces for external storage connectivity PMC site for I/O or coprocessing module IPM controller support for PICMG 3.0 standard intelligent platform management Carrier Grade Linux distribution for telecom environments Pre-integrated and validated hardware and operating environment

The ATCA-6101 blade provides Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to the PICMG 3.0 base interface and the PICMG 3.1 Option 2 fabric interface in a dual star conguration. This allows the base interface to be used for control, signaling or management while the fabric interface is used for high performance data transport, providing maximum network scalability. Dual SCSI interfaces, a PMC site and a range of management and peripheral interfaces give

the ATCA-6101 the exibility to address a variety of demanding computing tasks within the AXP platform. The Centellis 3000 series of Application-Enabling Platforms are pre-integrated and validated computing platforms, built on AdvancedTCA and other open industry standards. Selecting a Motorola Application-Enabling Platform enables equipment manufacturers to quickly develop their applications and deploy value-added products.

AdvancedTCA

The Motorola ATCA-6101 is a high performance, PowerPC processor based computing blade designed for general-purpose computing within the Motorola Centellis 3000 series of Application-Enabling Platforms. Dual 64-bit PowerPC 970FX processors in a tightly coupled two-way symmetric multi-processing (SMP) conguration deliver outstanding processing power. This makes the ATCA-6101 blade ideal for compute-intensive control plane and multimedia applications within next generation wireless and wireline network elements, such as SoftSwitch, SGSN, GGSN, PDSN, RNC, and B-RAS.

Each AXP blade requires a set of software components, that when combined, make up its operating environment. This operating environment consists of two unique software components: OS-specic Board Support Package (BSP) Basic Blade Services (BBS) software In order for the operating system (OS) to function properly, an OS-specic BSP must be created that incorporates all features, functions, and interfaces specic to each blade. In addition, software must be designed that glues together all these components into a unied software operating environment and provides a standard management interface to the rest of the platform and perhaps a higher level management framework. This software component is referred to as Basic Blade Services (BBS). The BSP and BBS software components are designed to operate in conjunction with, and on top of, a Linux environment. A brief description of the contents of Linux BSP and BBS software components follows.

Reference userland target environment example BBS software environment for a blade Services required for BBS to work specic versions of userland packages such as netSNMP Drivers and command utilities binaries BBS software features such as hardware platform management (local access to IPMC), rmware upgrade utilities, LED functionality, and eKeying Kernel, userland and tool chain dependency list documented details to allow a user to compile and link applications with BBS binaries Factory default binary image and installation script required to recover the blade image if it becomes corrupted

All operating environment information is accessible via a set of command utilities and a subset is available via SNMP MIBs.

The PICMG 3.0 AdvancedTCA standard species a low-level, environmental management architecture referred to as Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). The ATCA-6101 blade implements this functionality using an off-theshelf hardware and software based IPM controller that monitors all local, blade specic environmental information.
